I recently refurbished a strat in similar condition, but not quality. For the screws I recommend a product called Evaporust. Removes rust without abrasion, so future rust less likely.
Replacement screws are very inexpensive, and would have the plating.

I had a Japanese P-Bass and a Japanese Strat in the mid 90's and like a dummy I traded them because I didn't really understand what I had at the time

Japanese Fenders are really good guitars. My friend has a 2002 Japanese Fender Jaguar that he brought in Japan. It plays great and the build quality is fantastic. It's a shame that they are not many in the US.
