      I would say it is, part way through building it and it definitely makes you pay for it with cleanup! Take care mate.

    In UK, this kit retails at about half the price of the new Airfix Liberator even though might lack a lot of the interior detail. I have just seen a review of the Airfix Liberator, and there appears to be an issue with the wheels, seems they are slightly off line, due to a moulding issue but I would check this out if you are considering purchasing one. I built the old Hasegawa Liberator in a desert scheme camo and it was top notch but very pricey. Just bear in mind with this kit the wing is huge and you will need lots of display space!

      It definitely is a massive price jump, and both the Airfix and Hasegawa one in Australia are currently very hard to get and expensive, but definitely better more detailed kits! That sounds awesome, thanks for the advice I may have to park a few planes underneath the wings haha. Take care.👍🏻😁

    Very nice inbox review. Kit looks decent enough....... little bit of work needed. An Australian B-24 in natural metal will look cool! Did the Royal Australian Air Force have B-24's in camouflage scheme and/or olive drab and gray?

    • @Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits
      @Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It has a lot of promise, and I can see it being good for someone who isn't concerned with semi-visible interiors or is wanting to build a massive fleet of them haha. Definitely looking forward to starting it. I do believe some of our first B-24s where in the camo pattern but we only ever received the late models which where mostly in the natural metal.
      Thanks for watching :)

    I just built a Revell B-17 , and have to say that all that interior detail was a waste of time , considering you can't see most of it , so £20 without interior £40 with !! your choice ?

    • @Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits
      @Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think for some people interiors can definitely be a waste in big bombers. I think although not as detailed, for someone not wanting to spend a fortune on the Airfix B-24 kit, its a decent and well priced alternative. I personally enjoy doing interiors and I always take pictures before sealing the model up but that's just me having fun! Haven't started this one yet as I am not sure how much time I really want to spend adding detail and quite how I will go about doing so.
      Thanks a lot for watching! :)

      My last build, I detailed a PBY Catalina interior with 3D aftermarket decals. Once assembled, I was like, why did I do that? 🤦‍♂️ can’t see any of it now! Oh well, at least if a spider happens to make a home inside, they’ll be impressed!!😂

      @@Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits With that many Liberator kits you could make both variants of the Zodiac squadron, aswell as the Aussie one. :)

      @Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey, we’ll just about to start building it, I would recommend you get a scribing tool so you can beaten up some of the weaker panel lines, if you want to upgrade the interior maybe see if you can get a resin upgrade kit or spend some time scratch building some detail, and perhaps get a bit of Deluxe Materials “Looks Like Glass” to dip the clear parts in to remove some of the scratches and make them a bit more shiny and transparent😁
      Hope that helps, looking forward to hearing how it goes for you👍🏻

    • @asdf9890
      @asdf9890 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m painting/weathering mine now. Nothing stands out as bad to me, just a few inconveniences. I didn’t care for how the nose attaches to the fuselage. No guide pins or tabs. Some fuselage parts I created tabs with square plastic stock so that the panels don’t get pushed in accidentally. The connection of the wings are great once I filed the connectors (wing spars?) down to fit snugly together. I didn’t have to use any filler on the wing roots, so that’s a plus. Very little putty and sanding on the fuselage. As Luca said, some of the panel lines are pretty weak and may need modification. The decals seem pretty good to me, and apply easily.

    That's not a B24H nose! Airfix's is the only one with the correct nose (backward sloping bomb aimers window and the "Ford shelf" under the nose turret.

    • @Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits
      @Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s interesting, thanks for pointing that out! I’ll have to look more closely at the H variant. Would you say the Academy kit is more accurate for the J model perhaps?🤔

      @@Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits Hi, l may be wrong but the Academy kit looks like a J variant but boxed as an H model.l think it has the correct H model nose turret but the wrong bomb aimers window.The Academy nose definitely has the J bomb aimers window and does not have the "Ford shelf"(the small bulge under the nose turret).lf you google the different variants lm sure you can see the difference in the H nose.The box art for the Airfix clearly shows the backward sloping bomb aimers window as well as the small shelf under the nose turret.Hope this helps.Excellent video on TH-cam called "Color World War 11 B24 Nose Art-Eighth Air Force" shows several of the Zodiac Libs with close ups of the nose lncluding Gemini.

    This Academy reissue of the old Minicraft B-24H was the only Ford-nose kit on the market. Used kit prices were getting stupid, considering what a dud the kit was overall, all because it was the easiest way to model the most-produced Liberator iteration. Academy were just sitting on the moulds, whilst modellers watched resale prices go higher and higher. Could've rehashed it five years ago and I'd have bought at least one, vertically split turrets and numerous other tooling fuckups notwithstanding, all for that otherwise unattainable Ford nose.
    Enter the Airfix new-tool kit....
    No point buying this warmed-over turd when the Airfix is so very much better.
    Poor timing, Academy.

    • @Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits
      @Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think you have summed that up brilliantly! It’s got so many faults its only really good if your budgets tight, having said that I think Airfix prices can get pretty unreasonable, especially here in Australia, but otherwise it definitely isn’t worth comparing the two. Even with a few tiny issues from what I’ve heard the Airfix will come out on top every time.
      Thanks for your comment and I hope you still enjoyed this video despite the nature of this kit😂

      @@Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits No worries, mate. It comes down to the economics of limited hours. If it takes me say 50 hours to build a model to my standard from a new tool kit costing $, or seventy five hours from an old kit I can get for say $25, the new kit saves 25 irreplaceable hours at the cost of $50. My dwindling time on this earth is worth a lot more than $2 an hour. I'm far from rich but by my reckoning a better starting point is worth a significant premium.
      FWIW, the Minicraft/Academy kit makes a splendid in-flight ceiling hanger model up overhead where it can't be closely inspected. 🙂

      @@thadrobinson8343 totally agree with you mate, it does boil down to cost vs time! For me getting a 3D printer has saved a heck of a lot of time and lets me justify working on older kits like this one, though usually it’s better to do several of the same type of plane/tank to justify designing new parts.
      The new Airfix one is a bit of s toss up for me. Being someone who does videos building and reviewing it would be good to check it out, but I also want to look at the Hasegawa kit which I’ve heard is really good even though it’s a J not a H. Air also has got a spare D nose included which I’ve been searching for to restore an old plane I was given from a junk pile, so decisions🤔
      Anyways thanks for watching and good to chat a bit😁👍🏻

      It’s all a matter of what you want to accomplish with your build. If you want to do the intricate Airfix build and challenge your skill level while trying to find ways to show as much as you can of the interior detail, then much respect. However, if you are looking for an easier project (thumbs up for the clear part masking sheet included), and are more interested in how the exterior looks in your display cabinet, this kit is a godsend. Same goes if you are working on a limited budget. I was able to order this kit and Academy’s B-17G for the same price as one of the more new tooled and more detailed kits by other manufacturers. Aside from myself, these displayed kits are seen mainly by my wife, who wouldn’t know the difference between a B-24 and a Sopwith Camel if her life depended on it.
