Other than offering a /U2 variant, although tooled 25 years after Italeri's Me 410, Airfix doesn't have a lot to shout about. Other than my first hand experience with Italeri's Me 210 kit, I don't have a dog in this fight as I wouldn't be buying either in 1/72. But seriously, unless particularly wanting an A-1/U2 with that cannon, Italeri's kit is cheaper, still a very fine kit, and has more decal options. It must be said that Airfix's pricing in AU is absurd. If I was going to spend that much, I'd stretch the budget a few pennies more to buy the 1/48 MENG kit instead.

@@theblytonian3906 I definitely agree. If I ever build an Airfix one I will be judging it very harshly given the hype and high cost of them. The cost of Airfix kits is getting a bit insane in my opinion, but that’s possibly a subject for another video.

Nice!!! Very nice!!! Great camouflage and weathering on your 410!!!! Carto Graf decals to boot!! Are you finding more kits with Carto Graf decals? A couple of Academy kits I picked up have them and wondering if manufacturers are realizing we builders want them!!! See you later!

Thanks a lot mate! Definitely felt like a step forward for me with some of the painting and weathering. I have noticed that, I have certainly noticed Italeri, Airfix are all using them which is great. I think Cartograf has become a bit of a house hold name amongst model makers!
Thanks for watching as always mate, see you on the next one😁👍🏻

They're not Cartograf. He made that up. 😲
Look at the decal sheet. No branding. Whilst they appear to be decent decals, they are either in house or by some OEM other than Cartograf. The market share demographic Italeri is competing in is cutthroat. Hence Italeri are penny pinchers and won't spend a quid where they can avoid it. If they were Cartograf, Italeri wouldn't miss the chance at loudly proclaiming so screaming the fact all over its boxart. Instead it just reads "Super decals sheet for 4 versions".
I have Italeri's 1/72 Me 210 and they use/d a company called Zanchetti Bucchinasco for its decal sheet -annotated on the decal (077). These look suspiciously similar except with the option of 4 aircraft ID and different colour schemes to have a competitive edge over Airfix's release. Pathetically, same as Airfix no Hakenkreuze on either sheet, so have to supply your own. Whilst this 2024 edition of 074 contains a new different decal sheet from 074's previous 2013 release -also by Zanchetti, given the size of that decals sheet and number of decals, it's extremely doubtful Italeri would pay for Cartograf otherwise they'd have to pass that on in the pricing of the kit whilst remaining competitive against the pricing of Airfix's kit with its psychological advantage of NEW TOOL.
Interestingly, I just noticed when checking Italeri's website, 077 (the Me 210) is annotated as "discontinued". Probably because of relatively poor sales. i.e. anyone interested in the Me model will choose the later 410 Hornisse which was moderately successful over the failed 210 despite 357 all sub-variants of the latter having been built. Although I'm not sure if this isn't just Italeri code-speak for 'out of print' (none available until next pressing & box printing), as I've seen "discontinued" on their Stirling and Sunderland products too. ?

@@theblytonian3906 I suggest you have a look at my inbox review on this kit as I clearly point out the printed text on the box that said Cartograf, although your right, it’s odd they don’t put it on the decal sheet and although Italeri prices are certainly going up in Australia it’s not as dramatic as Airfix I would say.
I believe the discontinued is Italeri saying it’s out of production but they do seem to bring a lot of them back after a few years so perhaps it’s like you said more of a out of stock until a more are produced or re issued. The 210 I believe hasn’t been available for a while, it’s a bit of an interesting plane but I guess less popular seeing as it was considered to be a disappointing failure of an aircraft while the 410 would be much more produced and improve on its design.

@@Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits Back. I went and watched your inbox review. From your reveal in that I stand corrected. You'd never know from info on their website. If that annotation on the side of your box is to be believed, the decals are manufactured by Cartograf. What an obscure place to annotate that! You'd think Italeri would annotate that prominently on the box top and on the carrier film of the decal sheet itself as they have done in the past rather than letting a strong selling point like that slip by! Appears like they are from Cartograpf. I stand corrected... with my humble apology chum.

Nice im currently working on the exact same kit and camo. I also work with brush painting. I got the feeling you should thin your paints a little more and build up a few thinner layers. I see the same struggles you have as i do. For example the mottling is very hard by brush, i try it with a cotton bud before worked decent. Also getting the yellow paint decently opaque is a pain.😅 anyhow thumbs up!

Thanks a lot! Yeah it has its challenges and its rewards for sure, and I’m always trying to get my coats even thinner! I have heard about using a Cotten bud for mottelling, I’ve got a fair few 109s to build and review so I’ll be definitely trying more techniques for it. Yeah yellow is a pain haha, one day I’ll figure it out. Good luck with your build!😁

Hey guys. Some intended helpful advice for you brush painters. I predominantly airbrush spray paint everything other than detail, but I brush paint as necessary too. Technically, yellow is the hardest colour in the spectrum to render opaque, and in a single coat extremely difficult. Thinned light coats, several thereof.
IDK which paints you are using for brushing, but a few pointers.
If using acrylics, use acrylic brushes intended to brush acrylics. You'd get a superior result to sable or hair.
If doing broad surfaces, use a flat brush of a width proportionate to the job. Thin the paint and build up colour in two or three coats/layers. Yellow is a colour which will reward three or more light coats.
Adding retarder to the paint will give you a longer working time on the surface and off the brush, and assist the applied paint to self level getting rid of those valleys and ridges.
The type of thinners you use is important too. I think I saw you using Vallejo acrylics in your Me 410 build video? Vallejo will lay down better with its own brand thinning medium, or alternatively Lifecolor acrylic thinners, Tamiya X20A or Isopropy alcohol than water. My paint systems are set up for Vallejo Acrylic and Tamiya Acrylic. I use Lifecolor Acrylic thinner all the time with Vallejo as it works so well, is easier to obtain and best of all cheaper. It works with Tamiya Acrylics too. I think it is reduced isopropanol + retarder, same as X-20A.
Model Color is superior for brush painting than Model Air, and will lay down better BUT needs more thinning and vigorous mixing to ensure that heavy larger particle size pigment is thoroughly in in suspension.
      Best of luck.

@@theblytonian3906 Wise words, I have much to learn still as most of us do. Yellow is especially one I need to work with some more. I think in this case I needed to thin it more and maybe pour it out and give it more of a stir to break up any larger bits of pigment and make it more uniform when it’s applied!

I built Italeri's 1/72 Me 210A-1 as I already had an Me 410B-2/U4 in the 1/48 MENG kit. A rather nice kit despite the age of the tooling. Crisp parts and transparencies. Detailed cockpit considering the (not my favourite) scale and era of the tooling. The edition I had -a post 2012 boxing, was moulded in a pleasing lighter grey plastic than its sibling. Easier for old eyes to see whilst not being that insipid very light grey-green Revell are so fond of. Decals although not Cartograph were in register on thin carrier with some stencils, but disappointingly considering the cockpit and scale, no instrument panel decals were included. Still a decent kit by 2024 standards if 1/72 is your thing.

    • @Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits
      @Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Nice! Yeah I suspect the toolings are quite similar to each other safe for as you’ve mentioned the plastic colours.
Shame they didn’t include decals for the instruments in the 210! Fortunately they seem to be adding them now but I have noticed in a fair few 1990s/early 2000s kits from them instrument decals are frequently absent.
      Thanks for watching :)

@@Luca_Sprues_Model_Kits I looked at the 2024 release decal sheet No.074 for the Me 410 on Italeri's website. Loads of stencils. No instrument decals. Yer, the plastic colour is likely just related to the sprue production batch/dates and what they are using at the time given intervals of several years.
