    I steered clear of comparing this movie to Hitchcock's "Shadow of a Doubt". It was pretty good in its own right, but the only actor that came popping up in my head was Joseph Cotton & I tried hard not to compare...It's interesting to see how other directors & actors approach the same subject. Still well done little gem.

    Johnny said he grew up poor in that house. I should be so poor! That house was fine and finely furnished. It was also very well maintained as inside and out it looked freshly painted. It takes money to keep such a large house maintained. Back then only the very well to do had more than one phone. Yet the house had a phone upstairs in the hallway. Poor my butt!

I hope we can agree to disagree but I believe that under the Trump Presidency home ownership aka mortgages were at an all time high, but that's by numbers not percentages of different demographics.
      Actually I believe most Americans owned their own homes from 1789 until the Great Depression. Thereafter WWII I believe that to be the case as well. Then we come to the 1970's and outsourcing of our manufacturing and it's been downhill till Trump. Now it's downhill again under Deep State Be-lied-in.

    The detective was a great Aussie actor who never gained the following here that many have since. He was offered the role of the first James Bond but turned it down, which he regretted all his life.
    Rodney Sturt Taylor (11 January 1930 - 7 January 2015) was an Australian actor. He appeared in more than 50 feature films, including The Time Machine (1960), The Birds (1963), Sunday in New York (1963), 36 Hours (1965), The Glass Bottom Boat (1966), Hotel (1967), Chuka (1967), The Hell with Heroes (1968), and Zabriskie Point (1970) and was the star of TV show Hong Kong.

      Cars are so much better today. You can have that Desoto that had to be tuned every 3,000 miles, same with oil change, a new tailpipe every 10,000 miles. body rust in two years, breakdown regularly. Today we have cars that last longer, get better gas mileage, rarely break down, need a tune maybe after 50,000 miles, etc.

    • @bigblockjalopy
      @bigblockjalopy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@JDSFLA Rust and safety yes, otherwise a big NO. These cars can last forever, properly serviced. Not possible with todays garbage and there is no need for 3000 mile oil changes with modern oils.
      I drive a 60 Fury since 1988 almost daily, original Motor, heads never been off since August 59, 340+ K miles still runs like new, no noises, perfect oil pressure, top speed beyond 140 mph. All my cars are very high mileage and abused original Chryslers from the late 50s/early 60s, all still run great. My daily driver, a 60 Plymouth, still has the OE front wheel bearings and inner tie rod ends at 340 000 miles. The OE untouched PS steering box still works like new and never leaked a drop of oil in 61 years, just like the rear axle. I only had one transmission failure in over 32 years. Thats it. These cars are as depenable as it gets. Today you are forced to buy a new car every 5-8 years. You won't see a 2020 model in 2070 on the road, when these cars still run.

      Agree. They took prayer out of school replaced it with drugs, child molesters and murderers are receiving minimum sentences, schools are forced to teach little children about sex and about being transsexuals (too much for a kid to comprehend), our politicians are letting criminals go free, and bringing thousands of criminals across the border illegally everyday, we can buy gas, food, housing because of the economy, there’s talk of nuclear war all the time. Do we really expect to take our free America back when all these unnecessary changes are going on? I mean I can’t watch tv anymore so I watch old black and white movies and enjoy going back in time. I love the houses, hairdos,cars, loving families, scenery and especially the innocent language that was used then. I hope everyone will pray for our country to become the great republic that it once was instead of the laughing stock of the world. Be kind…live,laugh,love, and give. The world will be better if we fight for our constitutional rights 🇺🇸. Sorry I didn’t mean to make this political.

    This was an "Oh, my gosh" movie with the stairs scene and in the car with the little boy on the bicycle. This reminded me of Shadow of Doubt. I see others think so. The house looked like the house in The Donna Reed Show and I Dream of Jennie. The opening scene where the man was going through the trash is sort of up to date with people being out of work and looking for recycling. I see regular people doing it.

      My wife and I got the impression that there was an incestual physical attraction betwen Joseph Cotton and Teresa Wright. For many reasons. In one scene, Teresa Wright's friend wants to fix her up with a boy and she declines so she can be with her uncle.
