Thank you for this review. It is well made and goes beyond any other review I saw on this car. I am in the process of buying a Navara and your review definitely helped me a lot!
The most thorough review I have seen on this vehicle. You covered pretty much everything and let us experience it as well. Almost as good as a test drive for some points, better than a test drive for others. (Nissan wouldn't let me take it off road on a test.)
That looks fun driving around the track. In the real world? A few weeks ago I watched with great amusement, a 2015 Navara trying to move out of a front garden! yes, someone's flat as a pancake grass covered front garden. The more the Navara tried to move out, the more bogged down it became from the previous night's rain. Eventually the driver gave up, came back later with buckets of sand, dug around the wheels, filled the holes with sand - the 4x4 still couldn't move. A few hours later his friend came along with a Land Rover and that pulled the Navara out without even slipping. I don't know what the difference is between a Navara 4x4 setup and the one on a Land Rover but after watching another of Thomas's great reviews, I would add the Nivara is great for going around tracks, steep inclines and going through pools of deep water, but absolutely rubbish on wet grass !
I still bought the high end version of this truck even though it has 10hp less than the ranger. Why? because of the power-to-weight ratio. .The ranger may be the most powerful. but it is also the heaviest, with almost 300kg difference to that of the navara. Needles to say Its 20NM advantage is still not enough to compete the nissan in terms of extreme performance.
Thank you for the review. I have 2 points in your review that you didn't consider. 1. The steering rotation. Although you don't like how much you have to turn the wheel. I consider it a benefit. When going off road In Colorado, USA, there are trails (they do not qualify as a road) where you want very precise steering. The less you have to turn the steering wheel to turn, the less precise your steering control becomes. So I'm glad the steering is set up as you described it. 2. 2WD benefits. Although you may not increase fuel economy much by driving in 2WD in the city, you WILL drastically increase the life of your tires by using 2WD over 4WD on paved roads because it then allows the front tires to rotate at different speeds when turning. This means less wear on the front tires and fewer tire rotations due to uneven wear.
Again, I just love your stance on leather seats. I so totally agree with you on this subject! Both me and my wife are also vegetarians since a few years back due to how animals are treated in the meat industry. Fake leather is also so advanced today that most people wont even notice the difference. Please folks - stay away from real animal skin! How obsurd isnt it when you think about it, another life has to be taken from this world simply so your butt can sit on its skin - because "luxury!"? Come on, wake up! Anyway, you got yourself a new sub! Keep it up!
Note it is not an All wheel drive vehicle. When selected, centre diff locks and it is in 4 wheel drive mode. There the 'strange' sounds you hear when testing the turning circle on sealed road.
Thank you for such a detailed review! I think that the question of all of us who enjoyed this review is if and when would you review Ford ranger wildtrack? thank you and keep on the nice job
Our N American market has yet to get the Navara, maybe 2019. As mentioned below, 190 hp is a tad weak, but the diesel option would be welcome at any HP rating. Leather seats bad, really. Ah the smell of fine European Plastic and the whir of a fine Hybrid. Good points on seating for those of us taller. I'm use to a small Tacoma size but your comments make me think I may also look at the larger trucks. Fuel consumption still an issue. I find in my wife's Mazda CX5, if I drop the sun visor down just a bit I hit my forehead on it leaning forward. I've heard others complain on the steering lock to lock. Like to see that be closer to 3 turns for US market. Doubt if that will happen. Would also like to see the steering wheel have a flat bottom. Good in depth review, one of the best I've watched.
I would really love to see reviews of full size (american) pick-up trucks like the Ford F150, Chevrolet Silverado, Dodge Ram, etc. There are also bigger japanese pick-ups like Toyota Tndra or since we are at the Nissan Chapter - The Nissan Titan. I will also enjoy this review.
He calls it the frontier but here in the states we still have the previous generation "D40" Frontier, along with possibly apocryphal rumors that Nissan was trying to bring the old D22 platform up to current standards and use that for the new one in the states. Now there are finally rumblings of this new one coming out well after the mid size GM twins and with Colorado ZR2's being spied on the road, so Nissan can strike while the iron is lukewarm. Somehow, this hasn't stopped the current truck from being a hot seller.
They did away with the leafs springs, not the rigid axle. I believe the Navara has a rear multi-link coil suspension, but it's still using a rigid axle. I can't imagine a true truck not having one.
+Frédéric Check media.nissan.eu/content/dam/services/gb/brochure/Nissan_NP300_Navara.pdf Search for "multi-link" The Double Cab has no rigid leaf spring but "Multi-link with coil spring"
+Autogefühl Yes, but you said axle. A vehicle can have multi-link with coil spring suspension and still have a rigid live axle at the same time. If it were without a solid axle, it would be independent suspension, but your video cleary shows a once piece axle .
+Frédéric Strange, so from what you read from the price list, you would agree that Multi-Link with coil spring is no rigid axle right? I just wonder if they changed axles for the offroad cars but that would be weird.
Can you do a good review like this one for HILUX please? I am only considering these two. If you can do the other one, it would be clear for me to choose. Thanks, the best review on Navara I have seen so far.
So they made the 3.0 dCi V6 version only for couple of years..? Makes no sense to me as it's a great engine. Must be because of the regulations and Euro standards, damn. That one was maximum of 245hp/550Nm, plenty for a pickup of this size.
Ciao, Tall-Thomas! Hey, I once heard a comment that the Nissan steering wheel looks like the head of an elephant. Ever since, I can't help but notice 🙀 What do you think??
+JoeyandLindsay Yeah.Manufacturers puts some elements in their cheaper cars from the high-end cars. The keys, night vision technology, interior style, better materials and exterior looks.
It's very good review amazing but from beginning you was speaking about model of Nissan but you drive different model of Nissan a exactly when u go 4x4 it's stx top of range
TheRealBajan- actually, navara is longer than patrol.the patrol is much wider.more spaceious.i dont know, why all pick up models, are made with small cabins..
Instead of saying "hatch" to describe the hinged barrier at the end of a truck, you might like the word "tailgate". It is nicely descriptive term (used in the States and elsewhere); it also has more of a compound noun form that one might associate with German words.

best review ever.

when will be the test of the new Ford Ranger ?
As always great and expert review.

I recommend for the NP300 platform D23 Dobinsons MRR and ARB Air Locker.
Oh yeah, I forgot, part of the reason for a locking tailgate is so that your tailgate can't be stolen.
you can add a hardcover or something like a flat cover and in that case it´s quite usefull that you can lock your tailgate..
But Nissan didn't think to include the tailgate in the central locking, which is a pain in the ****
nice vehicle i would seriously consider it if i was in the market.
Very useful information Thomas. Thank you
+Doni Haji Abdul Majid appreciated!
love your reviews. I am planning to get this with a sports kit here in the Philippines. Can you give me an idea about engine reliability? Thank you.
thanks m8! sorry no experience in long-term!
Awesome truck Nissan built, especially in europe. When will Navara/Frontier come to the USA?
Great review! What about fuel economy?
Nice review as always... I am somewhat disappointed, I was hoping this vehicle would see the return of the Xterra...
thanks for the support!
Tolles Video!
Vielen Dank!
Another great review
thanks anthony!
What a great review. Thomas would u recommend manual or auto in the Navara?
+Mr Kruger thanks! Auto is more relaxing:)
Autogefühl I agree thanks!
Do they make a specific off road trim like the Pro-4x package in North America for the Navara?
Can you do a good review like this one for HILUX please? I am only considering these two. If you can do the other one, it would be clear for me to choose. Thanks, the best review on Navara I have seen so far.
+Alan An We will try but cannot promise and thanks for your support!
Thank you very much. I'm looking forward to it.

+Autogefühl Oh no! It's like a virus. 😜
Not sure if you realised but it's the same key as a GTR haha :)
+ThatGuyNamedScott. C Did notice that. So many manufacturers do this. My S4 has the same key as an R8.
+JoeyandLindsay Yeah.Manufacturers puts some elements in their cheaper cars from the high-end cars. The keys, night vision technology, interior style, better materials and exterior looks.
+JoeyandLindsay my polo has the same key as an R8 too haha
I would buy this Navara if it had a been bigger engine
I Would like a test of the Hilux :)
Good Review.
thanks, join us for more!
Only 60cm wading depth? The Ford Ranger has 80cm's of wading depth...
they do NOT have front wheel drive, and why does everyone else receive this before North America? With that attitude you're losing customers, me!
you also tested pajero...which one is better in terms of offroad capability ?..,pajero or navara np300 ?
+Sayıl Salcan hmmm they are both really very well capable. Tough question
+Autogefühl :)))..what would be your choice ?
+Sayıl Salcan Pajero... somehow the old guy has some character

It's very good review amazing but from beginning you was speaking about model of Nissan but you drive different model of Nissan a exactly when u go 4x4 it's stx top of range
Those were both the same cars, but not the identic cars. It is common that manufacturers split the onroad and offroad vehicles for the event
Ok we really appreciate Ur review was covered almost every thing thanks go ahead Thomas
Thomas, in europe what is the best 2017 pickup in the market for you?

what about fuel consumption in that off road mode?
+keva kevincek well, of course more friction, but on the other hand you are going very slow speeds and hardly any kilometres....
