BLISTERING PACE! First Nurburgring Laps in My Ferrari 296 GTS

- It's go, go, go at the Nürburgring with my new Ferrari 296 GTS! For the first time, I'm at the Green Hell with the hybrid V6 supercar from Maranello, a car that I recently bought and has been in need of the legs stretching. Well, now is exactly the time to do it, come with my for the first laps!
Every Shmeemobile comes to the famous Nurburgring Nordschleife to be officially welcomed into the collection, so of course the 296 GTS was going to follow in the steps of the SF90 Stradale, and even my GTC4Lussos and FF before. However, you could argue it's not the right car for the purpose given it's a convertible (with higher weight) and not the Assetto Fiorano (with track suspension), but with 830hp there's plenty of power to have some fun.
The track is busy, but that isn't going to stop the fun even during a first sighting lap and then a second one to really up the pace and get some of the excitement that this car has to offer.

Tim’s the kinda guy you can’t help but to smile back by from his love and passion for cars and how they work drive differ from one another lets you know he has earned the respect and admiration from people like him not fortunate enough to get that experience, but the closest we will get to experience. @@nathandavis5003 Can you really blame him not driving that beautiful Zenvo around that track with all the eegits driving around it! I can tell you I don’t I was glad to see he didn’t!
@@nathandavis5003He drove the Senna, so definitely the sf90 xx stradale will be lapped.
@@nathandavis5003 His Zenvo has about 4000 miles I think, which is a lot more than many other hypercars that very rarely get driven
Ferrari definitely knows how to make a V6 sound amazing

I think the 296 is the only truly amazing modern Ferrari. Don't get me wrong I know the SF90 and the Purosangue are cool but I think the 296 is just so well done and so chimed in. It holds its own much better than its modern siblings.

Not really. It's nice, it's light, it's fast. Many like the design, but it is far from flawless.
Something you may noticed that Tim said at the end, which is that there's something the SF90 has, which this does not.
The SF90 is a very playful car, and in some ways, feels more playful and faster at slower speeds than the 296. Part of that has to do with the lack of feedback the 296 suffers from though the steering wheel. Some has said the SF90 lacks feedback, and yes, it is not as tactile as an F8 for example, but close. In terms of steering feedback, few sports cars feel as numb as the 296.
There's another issue which Tim also touched upon, and this actually also goes for the AF version. It does feel a bit "loose" somehow. Even on fairly good roads, it is a bit jumpy and skips about a bit. By comparison, the SF90 feels absolutely rock solid.
So while the 296 is a very good car, I personally think an F8 and SF90 are both much more fun cars in most aspects. And for me the laggy throttle, and especially the lack of low end power takes away from the 296. A powerful sports car should try to kill you a little bit, but the 296 does not feel that way form the way it delivers its power. There's a reason why some call it entry level, and that has nothing to do with price or the V6. It has everything to do with how "soft" the power comes on below 5500 rpm. Put your foot to the floor in an F8 at anything below 120 km/h and it will try to spin its wheels - it's like stepping on a bomb. Put your foot in the 296, and it's nearly impossible to get it to break its tyres loose, unless you're in 1st or it's cold or damp.
There's a lot of hype going around. It is a nice car, but it is not the best of the newer Ferraris, that's for sure.
I like the 812 platform the most, especially the Comp A but the prices of course are crazy
The second lap was much better both in commentary and driving quality because you were more race-focused. That "talking through your actions" was great.
This spec is one of the better ones I’ve seen because it’s not too much, but it works so well. This and the Triple F collections 296 are just stunning!

That last lap you were in the zone, you had extra presence of mind when to back off. Spectacular indeed.
I'm loving the switch up from the cold openings to the warm openings of the video. Subtle change but it does give the videos a fresh feeling.
I’m so excited to see the spec of the SF90 XX, but I’m pretty sure my favorite Ferrari spec of yours has to be this 296

@@Shmee150 if you ever run out of ideas for bold colors. Look up the 2015 Toyota Corolla green. One of the most beautiful greens ever made and imagine it with higher quality paint. 😍

I test drove the 296 in Scottsdale recently. Fastest car I’ve been in. Just keeps pulling hard even to 140mph++. Recalibrated my sense of speed.

2nd lap could have had the rear window down to prominently capture the blow off valves more clearly. A very well spec'd little car & great sounding V6.

Can’t believe Ferrari didn’t code the predictive brake system to turn off while in race mode. I could see that causing someone to lose control. Great job keeping the car stable when that occurred and nice laps!
You can turn it off. It's in the menu.

There's something about the 296 that appeals to me more than any of the other Ferrari's at the moment. It's definitely a very cool car and it sounds great.
I hope Ferrari do a limited version of one of these and imagine if they could raise the rev limiter by another 1000 rpm - to make it rev like a 911 GT3. Just imagine the sound of nigh-on 10'000 rpm. It would be utter spine tingling.

Have you driven a sports car in Monaco? It's awful. Sure you can pose around, but why else? If you want to drive from say Nice to somewhere in Italy, just go via La Turbie and skip Monte Carlo. Beautiful place and nice roads.

Hi Tim great video! I know you have said you are worried about taking the Zenvo on the Nring because of the other drivers which is very valid! but what about getting to the track first thing, and going for a leisurely drive?
It was nice that you touched upon some of the little niggles some reviewers and vloggers seem to avoid. Like the fact that it can feel a bit unsettled. I've traced the AF GTB a few times, and interestingly enough, it also has this slightly nervous feeling. Can't say I like that feeling. And yep, there's something the SF90 has that the 296 just does not. Nothing wrong with either, but different cars, and the Sf90 is just a step above.
Than GT3RS on your second lap. That's why I only run the Ring at closed events. He was not happy to let you by, or he straight up did not see you.

I think qualifying mode just charges the battery as much as possible at the cost of fuel so that you never drain it and always have full power. You can see it charge even when you're not braking, with the combustion engine. Incredible technology
