What I love about your fishing style is that you don’t get all obsessive about one particular fly for a particular creek at a particular time of day. I don’t think fish are that smart, they just see potential food. You just pull out the next fly in your collection and catch a whole bunch.

I second this. If they are biting they are biting yenno.

If they can see it and they’re hungry they’ll eat it. That’s simple, the way I like it too.

@@davedave5083 I bet there are "serious" fly fishermen who are having strokes over what we're saying here. I just don't think the fly matters, you just need hungry fish.

If the fish is not pressured they are very dumb. If they are very pressured they will think twice about eating the mystery fly going around.

We've had a less-than-stellar fishing season because of rain this year, and I haven't fished since May. But watching your video today, I decided to head out to my favourite creek and do some fishing. I managed to catch one five-inch brookie, and it made it all worth it. Thanks for the inspiration :)

Back in the 80s, My wife(Japanese) and I used to go up in the hills out the back of Niseko in norther japan using these small rods, a float and a small hook. We used Salmon Roe we bought from the super market as bait. We used to catch Yamame(a local species) Masu and Trout. We used to look for the deepest holes at the bottom of or near a waterfall and drop in there. Was great fun. One year, I was in the middle of a stream only to find myself encircled by Salmon heading up stream to spawn. They were so thick in the water I could pat them as the went by.

I HAD 2 Tenkara USA Rhodos - I was tag-teaming it with a conventional bamboo fly rod on my last trip, got careless, and dropped it, collapsed, in the stream I was fishing - I'm sure it's made it to the Mississippi by now. I went to the link you posted - it's actually cheaper by a few bucks than the Rhodo - I might have to get one.

In your opinion is Tenkara fishing better later in the day ? Or do we just have to experiment with different flies Thanks for the videos. We love them.

That rod, like the kurenai, became a cult among tenkara anglers. I remember Tom Davis reviewing it and saying he was woried about how thin were the walls on this jem. But i never read many complaints about people breaking it despite its fragility.

I’m pretty happy with it and so far no breaks. 😎👍

I totally agree. It doesn't make any sense to pay such prices for just a simple collapsible rod. You can buy a good trout ranger + reel set for similar prices and you can do more, better, easier, more convenient and with more options. The whole thing about tenkara is more like a toy than an actually useful tool.
