      I think that they made older things better in many cases. One U Tube mechanic said that he jacked a new Jeep up on his lift in the mid-chassis and the frame damned near jack-knifed on him due to the thinner metal. I like older gals too. Younger ones can`t cook, clean, or sew.

    First clean pilot and pilot assembly. Then do a tc test, with a tc adapter in and threaded into it while under load less then 10dcvolts change out and when you do you coil drop out test get more then 4volts in 180seconds valve coil is sluggish and unreliable. If pilot gas doesn’t 100 percent shut off in 180seconds pilot solenoid is shot, new gas valve needed.

  • @aquatrax123

    I had the same problem with my heater and the solution was to install a pilot relighter. It basically monitors the pilot and if it goes out the device sparks to relight the pilot before the thermocouple turns off the gas.

    Hey Steve, been enjoying your videos for awhile now - love your personality, work ethic, mechanical skills, cooking, and of course, Miss Molly. Wish you were in my area. Got a very old oil fired Gulf Econojet (ever heard of one of those?) in a Burnham steam boiler. It's been very reliable until this winter. First the coupling went, then the pump. I replaced the pump and it was pretty good for a little over a month. I've been having a problem with it occasionally tripping the reset. Of course, I've replaced the nozzle and filter, still using the same specs the oil company used years ago - .85 80A. It would run good but the problems start up again a few days later. Two days ago, I replaced the electrodes, but now it gets off to a rough start and shakes every time. I don't know what the setting should be for the electrodes so I've been going by generic ones online. It ran for two hours after I replaced the electrodes (because it was very cold) and I noticed a burning electrical smell. I lso have checked the spark and it seems alright - it follows when I pull the screw driver back but it has to be close at first. Any suggestions on where I should go from here? Would you know what settings I should use?

    sad. all that knowledge steves dropping is going on deaf ears as that kid is more interested in his phone than learning how to keep warm and save money. if you have a baby, it doesnt matter the cost, it HAS to be warm.
    in the past year and half, ive learned so much about hvac from steve and others that ive saved thousands. i bought a house 1 1/2 yrs ago and it had some issues with the boiler and plumbing. so instead of calling someone immediately like a damsel in distress, i researched, read, and found videos like steves. i dont like youtubes politics or policies BUT i have learn alot from tradesmen that saved me money and gained a new skill that ive been able to pass on to others.

    • @nmccw3245

      CO air free is a calculated PPM of CO that takes the "excess air" or air that was not used in combustion and removes it from the equation. This means that the CO Air Free number will always be higher than the uncorrected CO number.

    Does the gas line for the pilot go thru
    the gas valve?

    • @nmccw3245
      @nmccw3245 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes. The gas valve senses the pilot flame with the thermocouple and holds open the pilot gas valve. If pilot flame is sensed and a call for heat comes in, it open the main gas valve to the burners. If the pilot goes out, the pilot gas valve closes and the main gas valve won’t open. A button on the gas valve will open the pilot gas valve manually so you can light the pilot and heat up the thermocouple so the valve will sense the pilot flame and keep the pilot valve open.

  • @xcmskim4

    I have a similar issue. The pilot keeps burning out and I have to replace the thermocouple every year. When I replace the thermocouple, it's all burnt - just like in this video.
