Crumbs , yes I think like you , I have been using far to much glue , seeing the amount you have used , and even pressed the down down , I recently made a 9x9 ft EPP quilt and used 40 sticks , which really does make it expensive . Live and learn hehe . Thanks for sharing your tips. Happy sewing

Hi, I'm a new subscriber and I love how detailed you are in explaining how you sew the hexagons together, especially the starting point where to put the knot. I was putting the knot at the beginning of the two hexagons. But your way is much better. Thank you for sharing.

I watched several videos on paper, piecing, and yours was by far the most complete and well spoken. You’re calm voice walked me through it. I’ve been Quilting for about 60 years and I’ve just started paper piecing it was quite intimidated. So thank you for your patience and good luck with your channel.❤

I have been making quilts for 52 years, and never tried EPP, after watching a friend doing it, I finally decided to give it a try, your tips have been very helpful, especially the one with the sandpaper. I don't know why I waited so long to give this a try, I have always loved hand sewing, I guess I thought it would be hard to do, but it isn't, and it's very relaxing to do.
Thank You for sharing your time, and your talent with all of us.

Interesting how many people in the US are doing this now, but all hand stitching is popular. I am 70 and have been stitching more than 60 years. I was taught as a child to sew hexagons into Grandmother's Flower garden quilts but we did not use paper templates. If you were a beginner you were taught to mark the quarter inch seams. Recently I tried hexiforms, they don't come out like the paper but I would never use that as a quilt, too stiff. I also tried the technique that Emma Jones TH-camr does where you put batting and a larger hexigon and sew it around and that has been my fav. I love any quilt as you go technique.

The Hexiforms get dissolved at about 80%, when washing the fabric that used the Hexiform shapes. When using 100%Cotton fabric, and you press the edges firmly, the edges can stay in that shape as bottom fibers do have a memory.
I have just begun stitching hexies together, but when making the same shape over & over & over, I have been "chain stitching" the # the pattern calls for, at the last corner, after knotting my thread, I begin to thread baste the next one in that corner, take a couple of close together stitches, then make my knot and continuing on the new hexi. I have been putting the completed thread basting the background hexies together in the chain stitching fashion. Maybe 6 in a row, hanging together so I don't have to count out 6 every time. I feel the less I handle them, their shapped edges seem to not get frayed as much.
The pattern I am using has diamond shapes. I am unsure what to do with the pointed "dog ears" when stitching corners together. Please consider addressing this issue while teaching how to stitch pieces edges together that are a different shape.
Thanks much. You were complete in you step by step tips. I appreciate the camera work you did for us, it helped me see the details about which you were teaching.
I am of the age that I use prescription readers + a magnifying glass. Also using a bright light (using daylight as my choice in lighting) shine on my work helps me to see the exact points, to match them as close as possible.

great video! TFS! a couple tips that might help... do not pull your papers out till you have all sides secured to another hexi (or any shape) and if you do a nicker knot at the beginning and end the corners are very secure and wont come out after washing. ALSO! I do a nicker knot half way (or more than one per side if larger) just in case years later one come undone it will have extra knots to keep the shape together

Really enjoyed your video. I am a beginner and yet to sew my many 1 inch Hexies. My project is to make a memory table runner for my daughter in law who lost her dear dad suddenly at the earlier part of this year. Its a surprise. Its mainly fussy cutting birds, which he loved and a good mixture of animals. They live in the Jurassic part of Devon and so i have included some great Dinosaur material, butterflies, fish you name it. Bees were a favourite too. Just hope i can work out the right pattern i want to do. Thanks again x

Very helpful video! I had always wanted to try it but felt intimidated. You are a great teacher I finally understand how the gluing works. Btw I love the colors you chose. I’m trying to guess the weight of the hexagon, would poster board from Dollar Tree work or is that too thick? I was thinking of using my cutting machine to cut the hexagons with. Thanks for a great video.

    • @aquiltingtale6230
      @aquiltingtale6230  ปีที่แล้ว

Hi, Lucy! Thank you for the lovely feedback. The hexagons I use feel thinner than poster board (more like scrapbooking paper or a light cardstock), but I would think poster board thickness would be okay. You might punch a hole in the centers to help remove them, because poster board is stiffer. I wouldn't go much thicker than poster board because there might be a bigger gap between the wrong sides of the glued seams, so that might impact the shape when you remove the papers. Let me know if you try poster board and how it works out. EPP is such a relaxing, satisfying way to quilt. I hope you love it!

Just wanted to say that you should press, not iron, your fabric. Ironing can distort your fabric, while pressing the fabric will not.
Also, I find that a 3/8 inch edge is easier for me to baste. I am a beginner like you, but I am older and have arthritis issues. Also, it’s easier for me to use the rotary cutter than the scissors when I cut.
    I enjoyed your video! 😃

Good morning, Shaylin … I’m also newish to EPP and appreciate so much the tips and tricks that I am learning from TH-cam videos. Your instructions are clear … Thank you for that! I haven’t done fussy cutting yet but ready to try it. 🧵
