Can Olaplex Fix Heat Damage on 4c Natural Hair?? Review of No.0 - No.8

  • Should you spend your money on Olaplex? Well I'll let you know! I tried Olaplex bond rebuilder set on my 4c fine, dense, normal porosity hair. I wanted to see if the bond rebuilder would give my curls life again.
    🛑 BIG DISCLAIMER: I made an 10 minute error at the No.0 part of the treatment. I should have added No.0 to my entire head let it sit for 10 minutes then add no. 3 to my saturated (with no. 0 only) hair. 😳 Moral of the story: Don't just read the website... Read the whole bottle too! 🙄

      Such a great video! I’m really enjoys the results I’ve gotten from Olaplex. I also feel a difference in my hair texture and I was actually a little scared that I was experiencing protein overload or something.
      I guess I wasn’t used to having hair that felt fortified. Gotta try that No.8. Everyone is raving about that.

      OMG I LOVEEEEEE IT!!!
      The secret for not bouncing the fro after wash is to twist and put
      your hair into sections.
      Go through each section applying the products.

    The absolute best thing you can do is go to a salon and get an Olaplex Standalone treatment. They use Olaplex #1 and Olaplex #2. These are the strongest Olaplex formulas. Basically they apply #1, then wait 10 or 20 minutes and apply #2 on top of it. They leave that on for an additional 10 or 20 minutes. Then they either rinse, or shampoo (I don't remember which). Then they follow that with a deep conditioning treatment. It's the best treatment I've ever seen for damaged hair.

    Girl Olaplex took my money this holiday season. I got a silk press for the first time 4 years needless to say I didn't like the way my hair felt after the silk press. Tried Olaplex and Wala it was back to looking healthy. I used it twice in 2 wash days spread over 2 weeks. I'll take a break next wash day return to my normal products. But will be using Olaplex routinely throughout the year. Thanks for the info it helped assure me that what I was seeing was legit.

    Olaplex contains some protein, but it doesn’t contain enough to be considered a protein treatment. It works on the hair’s cortex by temporarily “repairing” disulfide bonds, caused by heat and chemical damage.
    Protein treatments require hydrolyzed proteins/keratins (small enough to penetrate) high up on the ingredient list and work in a different way by temporarily filling in gaps in the hair.
    In both cases it’s essential to maintain a balance in one’s hair or protein & moisture.

    You should lightly shampoo you hair first. Towel dry but still keep hair slightly damp. Then you put no 0 all over your head. Cover your head with plastic cap to keep it moist and leave on for 10 mins. Then you add no 3 all over 😊

    I use Olaplex once a month on my natural hair. I use No. 0, 3 & 4. I will get 5 & 8 (these are the conditioners). My curl is super tight, shiny and springy. This stuff works. Like it really works.

      tighter the curl compared to the maximum potential your hair can be. if i had tight curls my hair would be damaged, because it would mean my naturally straight hair got a perm lol. but with type 2 and 3 curls tighter isn’t always better/achievable

    Hey girl, In the process of my 2 year heat damage. Shits hard asf! I don’t even like wearing my natural hair anymore… but slowly I started cutting the straight ends.. and I started using oplaex 3 I heard it’s good but I might get some other products as well. Is your hair dry after expirecning heat damage? My hair is dry and doesn’t take moisture as well as it did when it was healthy. You got this!! Also I saw a really rude comment about you looking better with makeup and having a fake face, I just wanted to say you’re beautiful!!! With or without makeup keep your head up 😘

    • @entirelyjojo
      @entirelyjojo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      HI 👋🏾😊
      Oh my goodness! It’s so hard!! I don’t wear my hair out at all. I’m going to “try” to find a way to wear it out (aside from my two braid style) but all I want to do is big chop all of it off when I look in the mirror.
      Great job on your two year journey! I just started to cut the straight end a bit at a time right now.
      After the heat damage I don’t recognize my hair. It feels really dry and yes I also have trouble with the moisture intake. Our porosity changed with the damage and that part of the problem.
      Thanks for the encouragement and the compliment ! You are a beautiful soul and I appreciate you! 🥰🥰

    Great review! I have been using Olaplex for a while now. My stylist uses it but I do not go to her very often so thought it would be a good idea to try the "at home" version. 2 things I would add this review. 1) The directions say to use No. O and leave it on for 10 minutes before adding No. 3. I do not think you are supposed to use them at the same time. 2) My stylist told me that the shampoo is very concentrated (I think this is the reason for the small bottle) You really only need a quarter sized amount (I know we all have different amounts of hair). I have a bit more hair than Jojo and I use a really small amount and it goes a LOOOOONG way. I have had the same small bottle for awhile now. I wash 1X per week and use the Olaplex often (but not always). I have had similar results as she did. Curl patter is much tighter. I have some heat damage that I am just going to have to grow out and cut off, but overall it has help quite a bit.

    Olaplex made my hair more coarse which I’m happy about because my hair was thin from being relaxed. As I grow out my relaxer my hair is curling back up and not breaking off at the demarcation line from going natural without the big chop.

      Olaplex didn’t make your hair more coarse. It’s a bond binder. It helps to restore strength and retain length.

    • @randomd8535
      @randomd8535 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@smf427 When I relax my hair its sliky when I use olaplex after my relaxer it reverts or feels thicker/coarse. I would know it's the hair that grows out of my scalp. Something in the olaplex is making my hair coarse. I'm not complaining but after a relaxer without using olaplex it's not coarse.

    • @dhar1519
      @dhar1519 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@smf427 Not a very smart comment. The bond builder is in the ingredient of Olaplex. So when someone refers to Olaplex they are referring to the bond builder system.

      Thanks for watching! I say give it a try see how you like it. You don't have to use no. 0 and no. 3 but if you are going for the bond rebuilding experience a bit stronger you probably want to pick up at least No. 3 and no. 4 with no. 8. However, No. 8 was actually my favorite as time has gone by and I think it alone is worth a try if nothing else.

    Hi, i do hope you reply as this is very important for me right now. I am at the verge of cutting my extremely damaged hair that keeps breaking. My question is. Do i need to cut my hair and start all over with olaplex or can olaplex work to fix an already damaged hair?

    • @entirelyjojo
      @entirelyjojo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I'm sorry to hear about the breakage i've been there and it's so discouraging. But you got this and you'll get thru it!! 🥰
      My short answer: olaplex will help but it won't do it all. So if u work thru the damage u'll also need other great deep conditioners and haircare habits to fix the damage. Trying olaplex before you chop won't hurt, everyones hair is different so give it a try.
      Long answer:
      In my experience it really depends on how damaged your hair is. You really need to identify the source of the breakage. Sometimes a big chop is the best way to go. Sometimes you are just missing something in your haircare regimen. Sometime its just too much stress. Stress is so deadly for our hair..
      Olaplex is great but it can only do so much. A good trim is a great place to start with breakage. Then check for protein overload or moisture overload either can make your hair break. After you've checked for that go for the olaplex and see how ur hair reacts. Also give ur hair a schedule. Protein once a month, moisturize everyday, every other day or once a week, deep condition every wash with a source of heat.. etc. Give yourself a month or so and see if it makes a difference. If not go for the big chop. There's nothing like a fresh start.
      I hope this helps. I will say tho for me I cut about 4-5 inches off because the heat damage was just too much and it made my hair journey so much better. Olaplex wasn't enough for me.
      I hope for you the absolute best! 🥰

    I purchased the shampoo and conditioner only to try to restore my 7yo daughter’s hair. Do you think it’s ok to use on kids and do I need all of the steps or just shampoo and conditioner? Thank you!

    • @entirelyjojo
      @entirelyjojo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Acasha B I'm not a professional but based on the ingredient list I would say it would be fine for kids. Its non toxic with a lot of great ingredients in them. I double checked the Olaplex website and it says its great for kids to restore their hair from sun damage. The main rebuilding ingredient is also in the shampoo and conditioner so I think its a great start. Being that its not purely the rebuilding ingredient like no 0. My bestie tried olaplex no. 4 and no. 5 and felt a difference with just that so I say go for it. Just those two should do wonders. Watch your daughter's hair for the first week or so to see how its reacting with her hair, scalp etc and if you feel like your daughter needs a bit more try adding no 8 to your collection. But shampoo and conditioner should be just fine☺️☺️

    Olaplex absolutely changed my hair texture. It broke my hair the heck off and undid my relaxer. Maybe the henna and the Olaplex were too much protein, maybe it was the amount of grey I had - who knows. But it was a $200 bust for me.

    • @letrellcheveux9388

    • @cute_and_cunning6543
      @cute_and_cunning6543 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Olaplex isn’t a protein. It works within the hair to relink broken bonds. The only product that contains protein in the line is the shampoo and it’s not enough to cause protein overload. It was probably the henna.

      @@jslack8973 That’s a possibility but the initial claim is still inaccurate. If they ditch the henna, do a clarifying shampoo to get rid of the excess protein Olaplex can still be an effective product in their hair care routine. Especially after paying for the whole line 🤷🏽‍♀️.

    • @entirelyjojo
      @entirelyjojo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No 3 is a bond rebuilder. So if ur natural curly hair bonds are broken it should help to rebuild those bonds. This could result in the appearance of curlier hair but its not changing what u should naturally have at a healthy point have to begin with. If they are fine you or not extremely damaged enough you won't even see a difference. You may feel that ur hair feels stronger to the touch but that should be it.

    • @entirelyjojo
      @entirelyjojo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed! We need fortification when spending so many dollars on one bottle! I can recommend a few based on just looking at the ingredients but haven’t tried them yet, so I won’t speak on those yet. but I do know that all natural shampoos for me have in the past given be the absolute best hair growth! I used this for a two years after my big chop. (Moisturizing Shampoo Bar by 22nd century woman) its all natural! This year I neglected my hair which is why I am where I’m at now but it’s time to do better again. Be on the lookout for Caster oil, avocado oil, Shea butter, olive oil and peppermint oil to stimulate the roots, strengthen and protect the hair in your shampoos. Just to name a few of the growth fortified ingredients.
