I feel like I'm the only one who thinks it didn't sound too bad with the FM percussion. Michiru Yamane just knew how to write a perfect soundtrack, and she's my favorite female chiptune composer I've ever listened to. While the FM drum choices may be questionable, what really matters is the music itself. And this game's music is OFF THE HOOK. Enough said. By the way 8-Beats, you did a good job. I really dig this.

That's how it should have sounded. I do not know why they wanted to save space by not using DAC samples. I know it was more expensive in those days to add more memory to accommodate more samples of sound, but in older games like the Ninja Turtles (also for Sega) they did use audio drums samples completely.

    • @8BeatsVGM

Both this and the original Bloodlines OST without the PCM Drums sound kick-ass. Just beat this game recently, and almost done Super Castlevania IV - I don't get it. People claim the music and gameplay and graphics are all better on Super IV, but as someone who TYPICALLY prefers the SNES, I wholeheartedly disagree. I really like the darker, grittier and yet cleaner-looking graphics of Bloodlines, the music sounds far more.. Castlevania and less.. whatever the fuck that muffled organ-riddled mess was on Super IV, and I find the gameplay much more challenging and satisfying in Bloodlines. As far as I'm concerned, this game and its music whoop Super IV in the ass.
I get the bloodlines songs stuck in my head, and almost all of them pump me right up and make me want to play. Super IV was hard on the eyes, hard on the ears, and too easy to beat. Pretty telling too that they hired the composer for THIS game for Symphony of the Night.

8-Beats VGM for sure. I have been listening to your castlevania remake over and over. Can’t get enough of it

I’m generally for this, but the toms you picked to replace sound almost like FM toms anyway. I wonder what it would have sounded like had you picked a more love sounding kit.

Well the castlvania FM patches for percussion are pretty weak, but it doesn't mean that the FM isn't capable of produce great percussion, just listen the Hitoshi Sakimoto's Terpsichorean driver, (Midnight Resistance, Gauntlet IV especifically) Phenomenal kick, hat, snare and almost realistic toms, GOD DAMN IT THOSE TOMS. I have my own FM patches on Deflemask that I create myself, a full set drum patches, that to me sounds like something you can hear or compare with the samples of that era

I know, FM drums sounds great on the right hands. Thank you very much, i hope you like the PCM drums anyway!

Is there a way I can download your soundtrack on an MP3 file?

You can download TH-cam videos (separated image/sound) with jdownloader. I even create music playlists and when they are big enough I can download all videos with it.

I was trying to see a video and stumbled upon this, now I'm fixated. I'm tempted to play this brutal game and have my phone on my shoulder blasting the music into one ear.. in fact . That's what I'll do lol

@@8BeatsVGM homie! I found a tutorial! Can you provide me with a link or something to your music files here and I'll make the rom with your enhanced music infused and upload it to CDromance website on your behalf. I'm not sure I would suggest you direct linking it because I don't want your channel to get removed or something

I agree, the game was missing some power in the percussions. Otherwise the game was great.

  •  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Sounds like the original... JUST MUCH BETTER! Sadly Mega Drive's sound chip wasn't that great. Worked fine for some specific instruments and music genre. But it had both wet and dry fart noises... SNES's sampler was so much better!

@edek And with TMNT, they meshed samples together and compressed them, so that the drums and orch hits could play chromatically together. Another Konami game that uses both FM and DAC drums is Lethal Enforcer.

You are generalizing that "Genesis sound ship sucks" thingy. FM synthesis isn't easy to learn, and there are tons of good sounding games for the system, specially japanese ones because they had more experience with that kind of hardware. western developed games tend to sound pretty bad because they where lazy to learn or because crappy tools to work with. And seems most people just forget that FM wasn't mean to do realistic sounds, it is a synthesizer.
