They tested the generator, got fuel and are mentally preparing, for what 10-20 inches Rebekah said is coming, and of course food wise, they are living the prepped best life. And like it's been said, hard to prep for a 500 year event, as nobody knows what that is, even in the history books you cant read up on it. This is a great lesson to write into history books, and us, from other states can review our area hazards and preps and act accordingly.
As someone who has lived through a massive storm on a farm, there are some things you can do post-flood. Before working on the damage, take a look at where the water flowed and where it backed up. These are areas that will require long-term solutions to prevent similar flooding in the future - levees, floodwalls and swales. Pay particular attention to the flow of water near the house and outbuildings as these are the most important areas on the farm. These are longer term projects, but it is important to note those areas now when you can see them. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and the family while you deal with the aftermath!
Don't forget to look upstream too. Petition local government to maybe consider recreating natural wetlands that can absorb some of the energy of the water flow before it hits downstream and gouges out the dirt like a hose ditcher.
A year and a half re-building the dream house. ✅. Next up, a couple years re-building the dream lower farm. ❤❤. You guys have the tools and skills!! I’m here to watch and encourage you along the way.
So happy you all are okay. Sad the lower farm is so badly damaged. My heart is breaking for all that lost their homes and especially to those that lost their lives to Helene
So for anyone who doesnt know.. their neighboring property behind them ( at the VERY end of the road) is a water shed property that empties in two directions after... The creek that cuts through their property and another creek/ stream off the other side of the watershed. Imagine ALLL the water running down the mountain, and over flowing the watershed. Thats pretty much what happened. I'm glad your family and your house is okay. I hope clean up isn't too insane.
I was wondering about that pond of water. It would just flow right down to their property, luckily the house was not in the way. I would be fixing that problem incase it happens again.
Hey, at least the dam/levee for the lake uphill from them didn't give way(as far as I can tell from the snippets we've had so far). It's one of the farm catches. Farm houses & even entire farms are in the valleys cause the springs & roads are most commonly there, and let's be honest, it's easier to walk downhill for lunch/end of day, then uphill. The downside is any big rain event can bring floods and/or mudslides which is what the SE/Mid Appalachians had last week and the NE Appalachians had last month (Vermont).
It feels really weird watching you prepare after seeing how devastating this storm actually turned out to be. Your boys will learn a lot about water and mud and how to prevent erosion. This is a growing up season for all of us. We are in Central FL and the next storm series threatens to be worse than Helene.
Please be aware this is not the last storm. I have red warnings and they have come true. It is written there will be more prepare yourself the best you can. God bless and stay safe.
Justin, so happy you guys are fine thank you for posting....Darling Lily!!! :) enjoy her being a child still brother! She made my day feeding her play horsey a treat & hopping through the house! With all the devastation of the floods it's nice to see what life was just before the storm hit. All our love to you all!
Great job Josiah! You're the man. You handle the farm equipment like a pro. I love how the family works together to get prepared for the storm. It's such a huge responsibility owning a farm and keeping all the animals safe You have all done a super job. Praying for you that the storm passes quickly with minimal damage. Please stay safe.
People have no idea what these storms are capable of. Everyone that is up to 5 states away from the ocean needs to start watching the weather especially in the months of August, September, and October. Watch these hurricanes. A lot of times they aren't bad, but when they are bad they are really bad. If you live in the mountains, you got to watch for them. I saw what can happen in Hurricane Charley in 2004. Power was off for over month just south of Orlando in that hot hot temperature. Elderly people passed away. They would go sit in their cars for AC and several had heart attacks. Not a whole lot of people came to help us during the power outage of Charley but everyone made it somehow. Those that survived made it and those that didn't died.
Hurricane was from Florida, not the Atlantic. Hurricanes dont make sharp left hand turns & water bomb a place thats keeping the Govt from mining lithium & quartz. They are now trying to buy up the deceased properties
Justin I'm a longtime viewer and I can relate to the unsure feelings when a hurricane is heading your way. You and your family are in Myself, my wife and my son prayers. We live in Louisiana and the last hurricane to make landfall was here. I went through Hurricane Andrew when I was 15, Complete Devastation. But if you let the beauty shine through for a bit, I promise you will be pleastantly surprised How fast, strong and resilient our neighbors still are apart from the state of the world we live in. I'm in a wheelchair and I'm tired of running every time We hear the word hurricane and Louisiana weather is my disease' worst enemy. I was thinking of Arizona or NC. Guess we really aren't safe anywhere
Justin I know it won't have any physical effect, but on the bright side one little bright side, is you won't have to worry about content for a good while, maybe it's a blessing in disguise you can completely re design or re build or adapt in some way you aren't seeing at the moment maybe not either way you can take us with you and earn and grow and turn this thing around or not lol like you've said yourself, say you don't wanna and own up to that, or say you can you will and start by writing down 6 ways how
lol, Joel Salatin asked me one time if I ever run out of content for the vlog. I said, Joel do I ever run out of problems. He just laughed and laughed. So true. Lots of content coming. Vlog coverage starts Friday.
Ahhh just in time for letting the land rest 💜 blessing in disguise with timing! Praying all the linemen make it safe to help restore. Hill country tx should be arriving 🇺🇸
@@ashleyochoa5336 a convoy of power trucks came here from Canada. I live right next to their staging area and have never seen so many trucks. It seems like every street has a team working on the lines.
There’s such a strange feeling watching this knowing what would happen the next day. I’m sure that feeling is strong for y’all that had to actually go through it. Glad everyone is okay and y’all did your best to protect the farm but there was just no way to imagine the magnitude of what was to come. I guess the one thing that held out that happened in this video was the generator! I’m sure that was a God send.
You were at least prepared for the rain, Bekkah knew what to think of. Grannys' saying about the creek rising had so much truth to it. I am even more happy that G'ma and Bruce are okay and you can get to them. All our love from New Zealand

Very interesting to watch this post water damage. You likely minimized some damage with intentional preparation but who could ever imagine what actually happened? So glad you have systems in place to make recovery more efficient and possible.
Prayers continue for you and all of west NC and east TN. I had family in south MS that survived Hurricane Katrina and had to come live with me in west TN because they lost everything. My daughter and son-in-law went to Picayune, MS to pick them up and they came with two Walmart bags with bare necessities. Saying that, I believe Hurricane Helene is much worse as respects damage and loss of life. My heart aches for all the victims of this terrible storm.
Keep us informed Justin. Your content, and the sharing of your family with total strangers is one of the premier events for each day I see a new video coming up. I saw the opener with the pole barn and the $100,000 of damage to the lower farm. Keep us informed on that one and perhaps we your viewers can help out with any shortfalls from insurance. We've seen in the political scene over the past years just how powerful it can be when people of meager means just donate $10 or so -- but multiplied by many people. Yea, I too am impressed with the man Josiah is becoming. We already have a pretty good idea of the man Jonah is and it was wonderful to watch. But now it's Josiah's era to emerge. I'm the second child in my family, and my personality is the closest to Josiah so I'm always pulling for him. I'm sure there's challenges sharing your coming-of-age years with so many random people online Josiah, especially with the old man trying to give you the business. Thanks for sharing it. You''ve not stopped shining since you stepped up to the plate when Jonah got hurt.
Keeping you and everyone in your area in my thoughts and prayers. So glad you guys were as well prepared as you were!!! Thanks for the update at the beginning of the video. Stay strong stay safe! Big hugs to all!❤
Thank the Lord, you got the generator working . It's weird watching you all get ready knowing what is coming. So glad you got that pond lower, or your house would have been hit. Hard to believe the pole barn had so much damageo. That was strong material, the water & winds had to be very strong to take 1/2 of that done. Glad you got everything to the main house, that was necessary.. Praying daily for everyone that has been affected by this horrible storm.
I just saw discovered you via a Facebook share since the flooding. We homestead too so I know the blood sweat and tears that go into developing such a beautiful & fruitful property. Your children will remember these days and have strength to endure life ahead of them. Great job mom and dad! You will overcome. B”H. May the Almighty give you his peace and strength. I lift up the flooded communities that they also overcome and have strength to endure.
I am at a loss when one says they had no idea, is it not wiser to err on the side of great caution than in a dire situation regardless of 'never has happened, had no idea, did not expect.....' Prayers.
I have always lived in hurricane territory. You prepare as best you can and see what happens. Harvey hit when my daughter was 10 days old. I'm so glad your family and the house are safe. Although you lost so much, I am glad your family has the mindset and resources for resilience. The damage to so much infrastructure around the state is hard to grasp.
So very glad that you're all safe and that your home wasn't damaged! After having lived through a flood that filled our lowest level and was 3 feet deep on the main level and took several days to recede, my recommendation is to move everything of value that you don't want to lose to the highlest level possible. Fortunately for us our bedrooms were spared on the upper level of our home. Most importantly, consider buying flood insurance even if you don't live in a flood zone. It's a major pain to get reimbursed but well worth it and it's fairly cheap if you're not located in a flood plain.
From New Orleans: Bless y’all. It’s a long road ahead, but doable together. It’s Grace you are safe and prayers for grandparents going through SO much and now this. Hug each other tightly! ❤
Justin and Fam, I have been watching your TH-cam channel regularly for 10 years (?!) now. I'm one of the silent observers who never comments. But, Lily getting into hobby horsing is making me laugh so hard and I just want to say you guys are incredible parents and role models for us: raising kiddos on farm while making a living on farm. It is a thing. Keep jumping high Lily!
I have been down about our homestead lately and when I need encouragement and need to find the will to continue your videos have helped me press on even with my disability! Hearing about the hurricane, we prayed and prayed for you all, Fit Farmer Fam, and other homesteaders knowing the coast was hit terribly! We will continue to pray for all those affected by this horrific storm!! Thank you for always being a light in our lives!!!
Looking at your beautiful property and knowing all the years of hard work and financial investment in it I’m afraid to see what’s happened post Helene coming through! Be thankful everyone is ok and your home didn’t flood..I’m in Western NC also and I have friends and family whose entire home is gone. Prayers & blessings to you all we all will overcome! ❤🙏🏻
I hope y’all get power again soon! We live inland in northern Florida so thankfully we only got the high winds and not the flooding. Those standby generators are a lifesaver, and a necessity for any homestead.
Sorry buddy! I’m glad you guys are ok and I pray you are able to pace yourself through the rebuild. Listen to your bodies along the way… the last year has been displacing for you with the home build. ❤
It’s really hard to watch this after the fact, seeing all the stuff before the destruction only reminds you how much you lost, but you guys have a unique blessing where most people might have family photos you have years and years worth of TH-cam footage you will always have access to those memorieswhich is incredible
I'm so happy you guys are okay. the damage is incredibly devastating. it hurts me to watch the videos and not be able to do anything. sending prayers to you and everyone effected by the storm.
Justin, I've been watching all the homesteading families to see that you are all OK. I'm so glad the damage wasn't worse for you and esp. that all your family is fine. Hope the grandparents are OK. God be with you all...as I've been seeing there are a few more storms coming up from the south Atlantic. I'm afraid to travel, and I worry because we have to go to a son's wedding in tornado alley on the other side of the Mississippi. UGH! Who knows where these storms will go? I hope you eastern dwellers will not be blindsided by another storm. Please tell the others to be prepared. I'm praying for all of us.
Thank you fro sharing your journey through this hard time, I admire your spirit and strength, and wish you and your beautiful family fast recovery, God Bless
I’m glad ya’ll are okay. Our power cane back on Monday but our cell service is still spotty. We’ve only been able to get a glimpse of the devastation. 💔 Praying for everyone and sending whatever we can!
Unreal watching this unfold in your area, prayers up. Really tunned in for the next set of videos, getting such a first hand view through your lens is incredible. S/O to Austin for keeping thar production quality
My heart aches watching this vlog bc this is going to be so much worse than you could prepare for! Heart still aches for alll those in your community and praying everyday for you and seeking out ways to help!
It’s good you did the prep you did or things could have been worse. I am glad you guys got the pole barns poles propped up with concrete pieces. I can’t get over how the creek scoured that. I am sorry for the damage but glad everyone is ok. I assume Annie is ok as well. This was an apopoliptic storm. It is heartbreaking to hear of all those that died in the area. Praying for you guys and everyone else In NC. ❤️
I remember the generator being put in. I’ve been around a long time. I hope the outdoor wood burner is still active as well. In case things happen in the winter. This is the day the generator was put in for. I love Lily, riding her hobby horse through the house. When I was 12 I still loved baby dolls. But I’m 75 now. That is odd nowadays For a 13-year-old to enjoy playing like that. It was wonderful to see. And then she’ll go and bake a cake and cook a meal for 10 people. That is our Lily.
Our prayers go out to you. We see hurricanes on a regular basis here in Louisiana, but we are more adaptive to it. If there is such a thing. I know your area is not. Wish we were closer to help everyone.
I too live in western NC…our issues are compounded by the high peeks n valleys and the forests of trees..but without the trees..it would have been even worse. Blessings❤
I have lived in Louisiana all my life, and we are not adapted to hurricanes. Each major hurricane shakes us. In our case, it's usually a limited number of towns/areas with damage, so Louisianians pour in from other areas to help. Helene caused widespread damage, so there are few helpers available nearby. And distant helpers need food, water, and lodging. It's going to be a long recovery for NC/TN.
The Cajun Navy is helping with relief in the Hendersonville area. St Tammany (Slidell, LA) Gives Back is also sending relief supplies to Hendersonville. I'm donating boxes.😊

The benefits of homeschooling and not putting them into the public system too.
I bet that they are not consuming lots of chicken packed with hormones helps too. That seems to be a staple of most young girls.

It is a thing. Keep jumping high Lily!
Ah thanks for piping in now and for watching so loyally. I feel the love.
Thank God all the Human Beans are safe, and also as many animals as possible! God Bless you and your entire family and farm
I watched Art working at your poll barn on Bri from Scratch! Shocking damage! 😲 Waiting with bated breath for your video re the hurricane.
I so glad you and the family are ok.
It looks like you all did a lot to prepare. Glad you’re all safe ❤
This is a hard watch seeing you prep knowing what was on the way. But the way you guys ho on to handle what happens it all is so inspirational.
Justin, an impact driver would benefit you more than a drill. The bits lock in and will not fall out. Just some food for thought.
Oh man that stinks! Glad you didn't loose the hay right before winter. Build it back better. ❤
Your sons have become such helpful men! What a blessing!
Thank God you
And your family are OK. I'll be praying for you for sure.❤
Be thankful Lilly is still a little girl 😂 you have only raised boys much more to come 🎉❤
It’s really hard to watch this after the fact, seeing all the stuff before the destruction only reminds you how much you lost, but you guys have a unique blessing where most people might have family photos you have years and years worth of TH-cam footage you will always have access to those memorieswhich is incredible
Thank God you got the generator all hooked up before the chaos. That would have been further insult to injury losing all your freezer foods.
Yeah Josiah! Geez Praying for your family.
God got yall in that new home in time.
Unreal watching this unfold in your area, prayers up. Really tunned in for the next set of videos, getting such a first hand view through your lens is incredible. S/O to Austin for keeping thar production quality

Omgg!! 😭 I am so sorry!! I am so happy you are all safe ❤
Praise God! I am sure many of us were and are praying for your family and others effected by this.
Wow, Josiah is very skilled on the excavator!
Glad you are all together and okay.❤😊🙏🔥
GOD bless y’all praying for all ❤ Josiah takes after Boots
Thank God your home stayed above the water!
How did Randolph and his family do in the storm? Thinking of you all.
They did good! Some flooding in their house but nothing too serious.
Pole barn is not propped up with concrete pieces. The roof is sitting on the stack of hay.
@@schex9 it is based on another video of a friend of theirs. They fixed it after the storm.
I kept wanting to tell y’all to not worry about those small things because bigger things were coming. Glad everyone is safe.
Thank goodness you got that generator fixed up🙏🏻
Hi.... Justin Rhodes and Rebecca thanks you are all ok and save nice to see you all love watching your video homestead bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋👍👍👍
Prayers for your family and all who are affected by this disaster.
Prayers
I feel them, thank you!
So glad the generator was working before the hurricane!
Game would be over it wouldn’t have
I remember the generator being put in. That is our Lily.
praying for you guys. thankful for your positivity through hardship
Im so glad to hear your family is safe.
So glad to hear from you! Glad your family is okay. So sorry about the damage and loss.
Prayers to you and your family and all your loved ones and I hope for a speedy recovery
So glad your family is safe, 🙏 have a blessed day, love from Maine
I dont know how this place would make it without all your hard work, Justin!! So sorry about the damage but yall made it. So many lost their life.
Divna porodica.Pozdrav iz Srbije❤❤❤❤
You should be nominated for man of the year!
So glad you are all safe and your home ok. So sorry for all the damage to your property. God bless.
I was so happy to see the intro. Seeing you lets me know you’re all safe.
@@schex9 No, adaptive was not the right word to use. But like the lady said their land structure is so different.A hurricane is never easy on anymore.
Glad you all are okay. Excellent vlog… edits, music, etc spot on. ❤ Enjoyed seeing the guys explain what they were doing on those big machines. 😊
Sending Prayers and Love. Thank you lord for keeping your family and home safe❤
The Cajun Navy is helping with relief in the Hendersonville area. St Tammany (Slidell, LA) Gives Back is also sending relief supplies to Hendersonville. I'm donating boxes.😊
Glad to hear that you are doing well and safe 😊😊
