Whoa...adults 90% less competent that normal children?
Wow, how pitiful, you must live in an area where pampered adults never experienced any adversity or requiring one to exercise common sense skills. Yes those are NORMAL young HUMANS that have been and are being raised properly, or at least fake it well!
LOL...can't fake it, in times like these the true colors shine!
They should not be the exception, but they ARE exceptional because (reasons) and many others are not because many adults have never learned to be truly self sufficient or resilient, they are like the blind leading the blind, their kids don't have a chance!
I see entire generations of educated idiots that beget more of the same. Mamby pamby men and entitled bitchy women...degeneration of the species.
"Those children" are cool kids, learning to be self sufficient early, learning and exercising life skills should not be abnormal but it is!
Below here is a SNAP SHOT of the HIGHLIGHTS of my early life
When I was 9-12 my brother was 10-13, at home we were driving small 3 point hitch farm tractors, hooking up implements and pulling machinery at 9 (real tractors not yard mowers) cutting and raking hay, dad operated the chain saw, the baler and larger tractor and bulldozer, and us kids were hauling 45 - 60 lb square bales of Alfalfa or Fescue that weighed what I did. Keeping in mind I was only 60 pounds soaking wet at 9...maybe 70-75lb at 10-11yrs old! At 14 I was finally 135-140lb, took a few years....today I'm at 148-154lb staying un-fat and healthy, not difficult at all.
We'd also haul wood to heat our home, help build and mend fence, pick up and haul TONS of ROCKS off the pasture land and dump em into a ravine, work the cattle and sheep (770 ACRES) moving them from pasture to pasture, helped de-horn, give shots of penicillin and emasculate the little bulls, I felt so sorry for the poor little bastards!
In the summer my brother (1.5 years older) and I could load and haul 35 bales per load to the barn (we hauled 100's of bales) and then in the super cold nights of winter we'd get up before dawn (while my sisters got to sleep) my brother and I would load 5 to 10 bales (depending on how cold it was) onto the flatbed pickup in the dark, take it to the winter pasture where my brother would put the truck in LOW gear aka granny gear, let it idle and wander around meandering wherever when hitting frozen cow pies or rocks while we kicked hay off the back....feeding 120 head of BEEF CATTLE... LOL...that was back in the day BEFORE the big round bales and round feeders MAKING IT EASY for the modern farmers. Now they just use a tractor to move a big ass bale into the feeder, no handling heavy little bales by hand to feed 100's of cows in the FREEZING cold mornings!
And that was just the start of a school day for us....we did more work before school in just one day than most kids did all damn week! Ha!
We did not mind either, it was just what we did, no accolades or pat on the back, we just did it because it needed to be done and we valued our home, and a place at the dinner table.
      People nowadays are pussies!
      Act Right!

I’m not being critical of Justin. Man is amazing. But a large swath of NC is about to blow up. Desperation is setting in. I know this is a family channel and I’ve always been milquetoast but JR needs to protect his family. I mean who’s coming? I don’t envy him. Lots of food is great until someone comes and takes it. I understand your tears of happiness in such devastation. We experienced similar devastation here in Hurricane Katrina. We were able to live on our land for 35 days without electricity. We had neighbors and volunteer fire dept cutting trees and moving debris off roads with equipment and manual labor. Never saw any kind of FEMA or MRE’s or ice but we were prepared with fuel and generators. Everyone brought meat to the little country store and grills were going constantly as well as propane burners cooking up jambalaya and beans from our pantry stores. It was the best feeling. Our local church housed our lineman from other states and they were so excited to get hot meals and cold drinks. One neighbor had an artesian well and if anyone from the community needed water, they got it there. It was such an awesome feeling of God with us in the face of disaster. We are always prepared ( good thing down here in southeast Louisiana)!

But….but….the gub’mint doesn’t like self-sufficient people. I love how this family lives contrary to what the so-called elites want. They want us helpless and dependent…and just look at what has happened to those people…they did not prepare like Joseph of Egypt did, and now they have no power, no water, no food. A wake up call for me. COSTCO RUN coming up! 😬

I don't usually comment on videos but I felt I needed to after watching this and your last video.
I just wanted to say that your videos that I stumbled across 7 years ago, and they changed my life for the better. It made me look back on the poor farming town I grew up with something other than apathy I had developed over the years. It made me remember how much I cared about the land. How much I forgot how the taste of fresh food made me feel. The feeling of watching things your raise grow through the seasons from seeds and babies. How I missed the smells of canning season.
How I abandoned my chosen faith after I became an "adult", and reclaiming it after many years. Meeting lifelong friends in doing so. It took those 7 years of working, saving and growing food in planter boxes I built, on the balcony of an apartment in Utah, convincing my wonderful wife to take the leap with our 5 kids, to move back east to my home state. Changing jobs and making sacrifices. It took a year of living on a couch in a spare room at my friends place without my family, to find a house I could afford with enough land to actually do anything with.
We started out homesteading journey this past year, I've been keeping up on your videos and when I found out about the hurricane and the path it was going to take I was afraid that your community both local and online would experience a loss of a great family and the influence you passion creates.
I am glad that you guys made it through and only lost livestock and things. My cousin lives just outside Asheville and my Uncle finally heard from her yesterday. I know it may not seem like much but I am grateful that you are alive and well as can be expected after this. My family's heart go out to you and what you have lost. I hope that as time goes on and you rebuild, that every now and then you look back and see what your legacy and be proud of yourself. I hope these wounds that your family have sustained on your soul with your losses, fade and become fond memories of working together and tackling a problem and helping your community.

I have so much faith in you guys. And maybe you cant see the positive yet... But YOU have taught me.... problems are the seeds of solution . Mother nature just told you where to pland land stabalizing plants, ponds , and where excess water flows EVERYWHERE on your land. You can adapt it and make it resilient for the next century flood. Youve got this !!!!
