Still amazed by your musical knowledge, it is inspiring to me. Here are some bands I like and wondered of you do also. Love Material Issue and remember seeing them in Lincoln. Have you ever heard the Neighborhoods ? Great band from Boston and saw them in Lawrence at the Bottleneck. How about Bettie Serveert (one of Aimee Mann's favorites). Awesome female fronted band from Sweden. Scott Lucas of Local H is wearing their t-shirt on one of their album covers. Great songs with great vocals and amazing guitar work. Lastly there is Pet. Harder style of music but simply amazing female vocals. She only did one album as Pet but it is mind-blowing. She also did albums with Big Sir and Air. Saw Pet at the Ranch Bowl.. Love your videos. One more off the top of my head, the Lyres from Boston were great. Saw their reunion show in Boston at the Middle East. Not done yet, Ultimate Fakebook from Kansas were pretty cool and reminded me alot of Material Issue or Weezer. They came to the Ranch Bowl many times and I still listen to them. And I'm sure you dig the Presidents of the United States of America, yes?
Hello ! It's Me ! ( Not Todd Rundgren ) From 1979 David Werner S/T on Epic. Great Power Pop like Tom Petty / Cheap Trick. It was heavily Promoted , there is even a 6 song live Promo of it. Check it out , you'll love it 🎸 👌
Thanks, Dave Huskey! I've been wanting to get some Bettie Serveert in my collection. Thank you for reminding me. Did you see Local H streaming a live show where they played PJ Soles in its entirety the other night? It was awesome! I will have to check out Pet. I appreciate the recommendations...especially bands with female vocalists! I'll need to look up the Neighborhoods as well. I remember hearing about Ultimate Fakebook in the 90s! Not a huge fan of the Presidents...had their first CD when it came out, though!
Hannah, thank you so much for the mention. Loved your video! I have a lot of the music you featured in your video in my own collection. Def going to check out some of the ones I don’t have. Cheers!!!
So glad I was able to introduce you to some of these fantastic bands! I just received that package from Frank Secich and can't wait to show everything soon! Cheers, and stay well!
Great video! One of my vinyl wants that will probably never get pressed is Material Issue's Freak City Soundtrack. Absolute bangers on that album. I played the wheels off that cd back in the day and need to hunt down a copy.
Hey Shawn! Freak City Soundtrack is on my wishlist. Hope to pick it up soon. I really wish their entire catalog would be released on vinyl! I would pick up everything! :-) I appreciate you stopping by!
Material Issue, what memories! I booked the noon-time and Back To School concerts when I was in college. We booked Material Issue (w/ The Mighty Lemon Drops as the supporting act) and they were amazing! I actually drove Jim Ellison back to his hotel so he can take a break before the show. I had completely forgotten that until your channel reminded me just now. Thank you so much!
Hi Cory! Yeah, Material Issue was amazing. l can't wait to see the upcoming documentary. Wow, and seeing them play with the Mighty Lemon Drops must have been epic indeed! Thank you for sharing this story!
The Cave Dogs' Joy Rides for Shut Ins is a perfect album and I listened to that regularly for years. Still occasionally listen and it holds up. Around that same time I was a fan of Buffalo Tom's Let Me Come Over which was pretty great too.
Dwight Twilley Band "Sincerely". I was obsessed with that record as a kid. I'm On Fire and You Were So Warm for sure best songs. That back photo is awesome!
Hi Hannah, another great video. Cool that the guy from Blue Ash contacted you. They were a Cleveland favorite in the late seventies. I saw Dwight Twilley Band in 1977, at the Cleveland Agora, great show and great album. Take care, Michael
Hi Michael! Yeah, Frank has been super generous and he's even a Facebook friend, too! Can't wait to get that package he sent in the mail. I'll be showing the stuff in a video. Too awesome that you saw Blue Ash and Dwight Twilley in the 70s! I'm envious! Peace.
Hey Hanna and Beatlejuice looking on. :-) Really good finally catching up with you a bit. Hope you're as well as possible in this modern day Twilight Zone. Oak Park....I wonder if that's near here.... ;-) I've bought more music in that town than anywhere else in my lifetime. So neat when someone you admire watches your video! Really closes the circle as they say. CDs....harumph! Still have more of those than anything else here. I need to finally sample Material Issue, have been curious for ages. Sweet gifties from Deano. Very enjoyable as always here. Learning a little more about an area of music I'd been unfamiliar with. All the best your way, sister. Peace n love. -Carm
Carm, great to hear from you! Beetlejuice supervises on these videos! I feel like CDs are shunned a lot of the time, but we can enjoy them! Nothing wrong with them! Dean was very kind sending me that package from the other world! Hope you dig Material Issue as much as I do!! Say hi to the fur babies! Sweeties! Peace.
Great video my friend. We can tell how much you enjoy this musical genre; you're glowing!! I'm not too familiar with Power Pop but I'll surely use this video and the one you did recently as a guide. Take care and stay safe :-)
Thanks, Eve! Yeah, I love this genre. It's feel-good rock music! Lots of fun. Glad my power pop videos were informative. :-) I hope you are staying well!
Fun and informative video Hanna! A lot of great power pop like The Plimsouls, Shoes, Blue Ash, and Jellyfish to name a few. But as always many bands I did not know. I really need to check out Pezband, Material Issue. Very cool packaging with the Wilkerson cd. I think I'm going to check that out first. I would like to check out the John Borack book too. Keep rocking!!!!!
Hi John! Glad you liked this video! There will be deep dives like this into two other genres that I'm very interested in soon! The Wilkerson CD is definitely one to check out. An unknown gem! And I can't recommend Pezband and Material Issue enough. Seriously, fantastic groups with hooks for days! :-)
I'm with you, Brian. Sometimes I even prefer CDs to vinyl because of the portability, but I fully agree that vinyl sounds better. Thanks for watching and catch up with you later!
Wow. So glad I just discovered this channel. I was just playing these songs: 'Found Out About You' - Gin Blossoms, 'Flavor of the Month' - Posies, 'Someday Someway' / '2541' - Marshall Crenshaw, 'A Town Called Malice' - The Jam - and had typed 'power pop' into YT search. You know your stuff and have good taste. Gonna check out some of your videos.
Thanks so much, Doug! Glad you're liking my little channel. I have another power pop update coming very, very soon! More goodies to share! You have great taste in music, too, it seems!
Great video, thanks! Great Power Pop tunes always hit the spot! Those two JELLYFISH albums are killer. Just great track after great track. And Jason Falkner is a great talent. He’s been playing in Beck’s band for a while now. Wonderful musician.
Thanks, Ivan! Glad you're here! Jellyfish rule and I've been obsessed with them again the last few weeks. Watched a really cool TH-cam series where Roger Manning talks about the making of their two albums. Falkner is awesome! Take care.
Sorry I'm late to this, but BOY what a great lineup of power pop. I don't think I've ever heard anyone mention the PezBand before. Nice! I lived in Oak Park for a couple years in the 90's. Illinois is a hotbed for power pop, lol. I love Jellyfish too, great great band. Material Issue! I love those guys! IPO is a stone classic. Great video Hanna!
Hey Jeff! I'm glad you made it here! I need to catch up on your latest spin zone! Pezband were great, right?! I can't wait to find their 2nd album. OMG, I've been obsessed with Jellyfish again the past few weeks and I watched a cool interview with Roger Manning on the making of those 2 albums on TH-cam! Later!
Hey Hanna. That Shoes box looks great and a great price. That's very cool that Frank reached out to you. Always good to see Jellyfish. I'm a big fan of Jason Falkner. I have some Ken Stringfellow but I don't think I've heard that one. You Am I is great - never got much attention here. Take care. Cheers!
Hi there, Sam! I just watched a really neat behind-the-scenes video on Spilt Milk with Roger Manning: th-cam.com/video/c3-z_mRl13s/w-d-xo.html There is also one covering Bellybutton. I miss Andy Sturmer! I think you'd like this Ken Stringfellow album. I'll be catching up on your videos in the next few days. :-)
Great post...your Owsley mention made my inner music nerd giddy. I had the pleasure seeing Owsley open up for Matthew Sweet during “In Reverse”...it was a pretty swell night. At any rate, I too voted for the re-issue...so fingers crossed! Take care and stay safe!
Hi Jason! You just made me really jealous by saying that you saw Owsley and Matthew Sweet on the same bill. And his "In Reverse" tour? Double jealous because that's my favorite Matthew Sweet album! It's brilliant! Glad you voted for the Owsley reissue! Fingers crossed indeed! Cheers!
The Omaha Introvert Of course, totally not my intention to make you jealous...but I do consider myself pretty lucky. That is my favorite Matthew Sweet album as well. I haven’t seen that one on vinyl yet...now that would make me jealous! ;)
I'll recommend Owsley's "The Hard Way", also. Thank you for mentioning You Am I and The Grays. Jellyfish goes without saying and I love the Marantz receiver.
Hi Whitney! Yeah, I definitely need to get a copy of The Hard Way from Owsley. Damn, that Spilt Milk album from Jellyfish has to be in my top 10 or top 15 albums of all time...so good! I love my vintage Marantz, too. Really is my most prized piece of equipment. Take care and hope you stop by again!
Hey Hanna! That Shoes box set looks awesome. I may have to look into getting that one. I always say "The Shoes" too ... just rolls off the tongue better lol. Pezband!!!! Awesome. You're right - the power pop scene in Chicagoland in the 70s was poppin. The Chicago garage rock scene in the 60s was even more poppin ... one of my favorites. I've been back and forth on doing a video about that. Show the CDs!!!!! I've been embracing them recently too. Super informative video as always.
Thanks, Emma! Yeah, DEFINITELY pick up that Shoes box set. Totally worth it when you get two other albums included of their early material, too. Never be afraid to show CDs. Sometimes that's all that is available...unless you want to spend hundreds on a vinyl press! Hehe! For 60s garage I think all I know from Chicago area would be Shadows of Night and Daughters of Eve, so a video on that would be pretty cool! I'd learn a lot! Later!
Hello Hanna! Can't leave a very long comment tonight but most of this was all new to me. Out of everything you had shown, I was only familiar with the Plimsouls, The Rembrandts, and Jellyfish. That's so cool though that Frank and John both reached out to you. It's cool whenever you can make a connection like that and even cooler when they offer to send you something. I am going to have to check out Material Issue. I seem to recall the name but I can't say that I've heard anything that they've done.
Hey Paul! Glad you weren't familiar with a lot of the stuff I showed here! There's a deluxe CD edition of Jellyfish's Spilt Milk I'd love to get soon. I was speechless that John and Frank both reached out to me. I felt like the cool kid! Very generous guys. Ohhh, you're in for a treat if you haven't listened to Material Issue yet! I should burn you some CDs. Catch up soon.
Good call on The Sunnyboys. Was lucky to catch an original copy of their debut LP a year or two ago. It’s totally brilliant! Also check out Aussie bands The Stems and The Huxton Creepers for jangly power pop!
Hey there! Oh, you got lucky getting an OG copy of that Sunnyboys LP. Jealous indeed! I have a Huxton Creepers album! They are definitely underrated! I've sampled a few songs from the Stems and really like them. Looks like their stuff is a bit hard to find. Of course... Take care!
Hi Hanna , That Plimsouls album is a great find. The label ( Planet ) was a boutique label for The Pointer Sisters ! & The Plimsouls were virtually ignored by them. The cool thing about Dwight Twilley ' I'm On Fire " was that it was a huge hit ! Phil Seymour had a similar situation as The Plimsouls as his label ( Boardwalk ) was almost exclusively a disco label. Remember , Big Star were on Stax , a R&B label. Lots of great records on labels that were clueless. Looking forward to Shoegaze video ! 😎
Hey David! Always a joy to read a comment from you! Interesting info about those labels! Kind of ironic! One more genre video to go...THEN shoegaze, I promise!😄😄😎
Hey Hanna, Hope all is well. Plimsouls awesome band have that album. Wow Material Issue don't hear that come up in the VC. I like them. Pursuit of Happiness cool band. Love that song "I'm an adult now". Have a good weekend Cheers Flash
Hi Gordon! Hope you are hanging in there. It took me a while to find this Plimsouls album! I'm so glad I did. Material Issue indeed never come up in the VC. They sounded so good! :-) Hope to catch your new one soon.
Right on! I think my love for power pop started in the late 90s with Matthew Sweet. Then an ex introduced me to #1 Record/Radio City from Big Star and I was done for! Lots of great band discoveries after that! Thanks for watching! Peace.
Sunnyboys are but one of a host of my "Aussie-Au-Go-Go" heroes. I'd even done a full Hour using that Title on early Indie Radio, Locally, promoting Guitar Pop from New Zealand and Australia, on KRCK- when still broadcast as a Pirate Station in Dundee - had my Pipeline Show with Jim Vegas, a full 1hr show, no commercials of College Radio-Indie-Reggae-Surf-Punk-Power Pop-Blues-Industrial, etc of the Day. I'd be happy to send a burned copy to you!
Hi Hanna Another very good video. You certainly have a great knowledge and affection for Power Pop. I love Pezband, I have most of their output. I saw them live at Dingwalls in London in 1978 (they made an EP of this show). Shoes, Dwight Twilley and The Plimsouls is just classic music. I saw Peter Case play live last year, he is doing a solo sort of troubadour show. Looking forward to getting out to try to find the Blue Ash records, though I don't think that is going to be anytime soon. Material Issue sounds very interesting will look out for them. I can recommend a LP that came out in 1978 by Van Duren 'Are you Serious', or called 'Staring out the Ceiling' in the UK. He came from Memphis and hung around with Big Star, it is an absolute classic and the only one he made. Though he has released some stuff recently. I am currently checking out Australian bands, lots of potential there. Once again thanks for the video. Gary
Hi Gary! Glad my passion for power pop comes through! I've been keeping my eye on that Dingwalls live Pezband EP on eBay! I bet seeing Peter Case live was great. You should be able to find both of those Blue Ash LPs online, but it's much more fun to find them out and about whenever the stores reopen again! I just sampled some songs from Are You Series from Van Duren. Really like it! Yeah, Australia really has/had so many great bands! I'm on an Australian band kick at the moment! Take care..definitely check out International Pop Overthrow from Material Issue!
Plimsouls rule. Saw them in 1995 at Bottom Of The Hill, a San Francisco venue. Clem Burke of Blondie fame was the drummer. Peter Case is a terrific songwriter. Its cool you mentioned International Pop Overthrow festival - I attended 2 shows here in Chicago. So much fun. The bands play short sets - 20 minutes or so - tear down their equipment and the next band hits the stage. Love live music and/or the opportunity to check it out. Great video Hanna - take care, Kevin
Hey Kevin! Peter Case is awesome indeed and it's cool you got to see the Plimsouls in 1995! I would love to attend an IPO festival one day! Be well and keep spinnin' the tunes!
And that video was fully loaded! So much great stuff. You got a lot of fantastic CDs there. The Wondermints are awesome! So glad you got that Owsley and another copy of Jellyfish. I wish I had that on vinyl. At least I have it on cd. Have you checked out The Pernice Brothers at all? I can’t remember if I ever mentioned them to you before. You’d dig them. Joe Pernice also has some solo stuff and was in a band called the Scud Mountain Boys. Hope all is well. Talk soon, Brian🍀
Hey Brian! I'm thinking of splurging a bit and getting the Jellyfish Spilt Milk deluxe CD edition with demos, etc. It's really tempting me..especially since I just watched a TH-cam video with Roger Manning on the making of Spilt Milk! I haven't checked out the Pernice Bros. yet, but I think Sam at the Vinyl Douche just showed a Scud Mountain Boys LP. I need to catch up! Power pop forever! :-)
Wow Hannah You have struck Power Pop Gold!! I specially with the 2 important figures in PP History that have reached out to you I would have been ecstatic had that happened to me Now I have to have that book about the PP music and also want the Blue Ash dudes Bio as well I’m also going to have to do another Power Pop update video as well since I too have acquired some great stuff you’d like for sure Anyway thanks for being a fellow Power Pop junkie in the VC Keep showing it LoL Peace ☮️ Cosmic Brian
Hi Brian! Thanks for watching! I'm still stunned that Frank and John got in touch with me. Just too cool, right? Yes, please do another power pop update! We need to keep bringing attention to this genre! :-) Peace.
Good stuff Hanna. I need to check out Shoes, as I’m not familiar with them. That Plimsouls first is something I’ve been looking for as well. Take care.
Hi, E! I think you'd really dig Shoes. They became one of my favorites and have several great albums! Hope you find the first Plimsouls LP. It took a while for me to find. Be well and thanks for stopping by!
@@TheOmahaIntrovert I don't recall much of that night, honestly, but Jellyfish were a fun band for sure, and World Party was great as always. I managed to catch the recent triumphant return of World Party about four years ago now or so here on Long Island, somehow all of a sudden, they announced a show out in this theater in Riverhead, LI, about a two hour drive from home at the time, and I wasn't going to be asked twice, so I got like a front row table seat for it!! It was STUPENDOUS. Poor Karl Wallinger had been through some rough times including a brain aneurysm or something like that that took him about four years to recover from, apparently. Finally he got back on the horse, and got the band together again, though I don't think anybody from the 1990 band was with him this time. I was bemused that finally they were touring, and in my backyard, as it were. That show was a bring-down-the-house type of show. He didn't meet and greet afterwards, but I bought myself a signed World Party box set after the show at the merch table. So that was all well worth it. I also finally managed to see China Crisis at a tiny venue here in Glen Cove LI, three years ago or so now. That was a total goof! Been into China Crisis for years. I was hoping they'd come back again for more shows, but so much for 2020 I guess. Gary from China Crisis is the funniest bastard I've ever seen, although Karl Wallinger was equally amusing, I must say.
@@TheOmahaIntrovert P.S. I recall feeling a bit bad for World Party and Jellyfish, since if I recall correctly, it was anything but a sold out crowd that evening. I heard later that someone had run into David Byrne in the audience or whatever! We didn't. This was the midtown Ritz in 1990 or so. I was off at some point between bands buying rock buttons and stuff in the little kiosk near the front foyer, of course. What else would I be doing at the intermission? Besides buying drinks. We also caught The Pixies at that Ritz around the same time or so, and my god my ears are still ringing from that!
Just discovered your channel. Loving it! I just played that Pezband album a couple of weeks ago (on vinyl, of course). Been a power pop fan for many years. Too many to list, but in regard to this video - Owsley's second album "The Hard Way", is magnificent. Rembrandt's first album is considered their best (although I'm partial to the follow-up which you showed here). If you haven't already, you should check out the I Love Power Pop page on Facebook. You'll be introduced to a lot of great bands and fans alike.
Hi there! I'm thrilled you are new here! Welcome! I'll have to get that 2nd Owsley album soon. I do follow the I Love Power Pop page on FB and love it! Glad to meet other power pop lovers on social media! Cheers!
You Am I? WOW! I saw them on the second stage at Lollapallooza in 1996-they were the first act! Wondered whatever became of them. I am impressed that you have a Pursuit of Happiness disc-they had that one BIG hit I'm An Adult Now then pretty much disappeared. Very interesting Hannah!
I am retyping this comment because the first didn't go through for some reason! Always thrilled to get a comment from you, John! So cool that you saw You Am I in '96! They had several fantastic albums. I don't know much about their history or what became of them, though! Stay tuned for my next power pop update! Be well.
I'm a huge fan of Kingpin as well. Spilt Milk is a masterpiece. A good Jason Falkner album as well (his 4 track demos album also has him playing everything and doesn't sound too different that Present Author Unknown). Wondermints - love their early albums. Lovely package from Dean.
Hey Kris! I just watched on TH-cam those videos where Roger Manning is talking about the making of those Jellyfish albums. Really enjoyed them! I'm curious to check out those earlier Wondermints albums. Have a great weekend!
Hi Hanna! Again, a great Power Pop video, thanks. Spilt Milk is one of my favourites too. I just wanted to recommend another book on Power Pop I found (I sent the info to Emma at Eight Miles High too): Go All The Way: A Literary Appreciation of Power Pop by Paul Myers and S.W. Lauden. Different writers and their thoughts on the genre, good read. Stay safe, Nick
Glad you liked this one, Nick! I appreciate the recommendation on that power pop book. It's one I'm going to look up after I respond to some comments here! If it's affordable, I may end up getting that, too! Stay well and keep rockin' to the power pop!
Hi Hanna great video and i am happy you still love Cds has well has vinyl lps i am into both also, i try to buy both cd and vinyls of the same album lol this way i can play the cd more then my lps but at times i do play the lps anyway great vinyl my friend..and stay safe out there
@@TheOmahaIntrovert same here with me Hanna it is all about the Music i like the cds for the clear sound on them dont get me wrong i love vinyl but i also love cds, need i need to get Olivia Newton-John albums on cds there out there but hard to find, but that makes it fun right...anyway stay safe out there..
Hi again. I recently made a power pop Spotify list for myself, so I’m up on all these bands. Of course there’s lots of overlap with the bands you mentioned. But I wanted to mention a few overlooked bands. One is a band called Dirty Looks from the late 70’s / early 80’s skinny tie power pop heyday. The yachts are from the same era - these albums don’t go for much money at all - I guess they’re not held in the highest regard. Pooh sticks started of as a C86 style punky indie pop band - all their stuff is amazing but their last two albums have many some songs which sound like perfect power pop. My final recommendation is only for the courageous - one who’s not afraid to be laughed at. Rick “Jessie’s Girl” Springfield wrote some very good power pop. Check out the song Love Is Alright Tonite (note power-pop cred being established by using spelling of ‘tonite’)
Hey there, Josh! I actually recently obtained a Pooh Sticks LP a few months ago that I'll feature in a future power pop episode! Love 'em! Agreed that Rick Springfield was a power pop master. Just need to get some of his LPs in the collection still. I think I've heard of Dirty Looks but I'll look them up again based on your suggestion. Thanks again for being here!
Check out powerpopmovie.com. This movie, a history of power pop, has been in the works for several years now and the site claims it will be released in 2020. You can view a trailer for the movie on the website. John Borack is listed as an associte producer...maybe you could ask him about it.
Hey Chuck! I can't wait for that movie to come out. Been reading about it and it should be amazing, no doubt! I'd want to buy the DVD! Thanks for watching, and take care!
Hey Hanna, talk about exploding outta the gates with this video, so much power pop! And clearly, you're right in your element :) That is fantastic that the two industry folks reached out to you, they clearly see a kindred spirit whose love for the music is especially strong. You're a keeper of the power pop flame!! Have to say, the badfinger curse seems worryingly apparent in the powerpop scene over the years, so many who bow out without getting their due :( there's quite a few new artists in here I need to be checking out. So glad YAI popped up :) I agree on Hourly Daily (and especially the deep cut 'If we Can't get it together' - I used to catch that same 470 bus they sing about home every day!); that said, the emotional highs are strong on Hi Fi Way - 'purple sneakers' is for all those outcasts (check out the keith moon drumming on the outro), while closer 'How Much Is Enough' has always brought the singalongs live, an incredible closer. Thank you for the very kind shoutout, I'm honoured to have introduced you to a couple great albums!! Love the themed video idea, I've been working up to a few as well. Thanks for this blast, really enjoyed!
Hey Dean. Once again, the power pop/shoegaze box you sent was killer! Yeah, I was stunned that Frank and John reached out to me like that. It truly is a shame about the suicides that have occurred in the power pop world. Seems to just be an overlooked and unappreciated genre. So cool you caught that 470 bus! Need to pop in that #4 record this week. You Am I are terrific! I thank you for bringing a bunch of cool bands to my attention! :-) Looking forward to your theme videos as well!
I believe I talk about Teenage Fanclub more in depth in this video: th-cam.com/video/whxk-I0Xrm0/w-d-xo.html Power pop rules! New TF album coming out in March 2021! Cheers!
Off Broadway is another great Chicagoland power pop band to check out. Their debut "On" (1979) is a gem. I also recommend the compilation "Buttons: From Champaign to Chicago" (Numero Group). It features lots of lesser-known power pop bands from Chicagoland. It's available on both CD and vinyl.
Hey there, Jared! Thanks for watching this one. I'll have a power pop update video soon and feature some cool labels as well. I appreciate the recommendation of Off Broadway. I'll check 'em out! That compilation sounds rad, too! Cheers!
@@TheOmahaIntrovert Yes as I recall it was a really good show, he has his partner Phil Seymour with him. I used to have that first Phil Seymour album years ago. We played the heck out of it at Homers. btw do you own the record called "Go" by The Pop ? they were on Arista Records. I will send you a video. They had at least two records I only own one of them. Went to Grapefruit today for the first time and spent too much money :-). Simon was very nice.
Hi Hanna, I'm rewatching your power pop videos to build my vinyl power pop collection cause I had very few. I have a good selection of PP from the 90's on CD, you helped with that as well awhile ago. Still want to get a few from your top ten like Flaming Groovies, 20/20 and Db's (I only have Like This on vinyl), those seem kind of hard to find at a nice price. Also want to tell you I finally got the latest Depeche Mode CD's you recommended to me Sounds of the Universe and Delta Machine, those are great. Found you on Instagram, your collection is amazing ! You really have a great collection by now. Recently I bought a Jules Shear LP-Watch Dog and its sounds very power pop, Im wondering if you know about him. Also bought some jangle type LP's I also found really cheap at my local store which is very unlikley: Lilac TImes, Trip Shakespeare, Innocence Mission, Reivers and Grapes of Wrath. All those, and the Jules Shear for less than $4.00 each. And I also found the Gun Club's Miami for around $9.00 from a friend here in my country but that was like a miracle lol.
Hi Alejandro! What's up? I'm currently in the planning stage for a power pop/jangle pop update video. I just haven't been too motivated to film it. Plus, my computer crashed that had my outline notes on it. Sigh. That was a bummer. Oh, I'm glad you're on Instagram now. That's where I am the most active. What's your name on there? Trip Shakespeare are amazing! I just found Lulu on CD and have been listening to it lots! Grapes of Wrath...classic. I have one of their LPs. The Gun Club had a great sound. I have 4 of their albums on CD. Ohhh, glad you dig those Depeche Mode albums Sounds of the Universe and Delta Machine. Both are underrated in my opinion! So good! Wow my friend, you've been listening to some very solid tunes ! Keep it up!
@@TheOmahaIntrovert I'm aleriverac1, saw you already responded to my comment about the Rip it up book, so for now on I'll comment there too now I know you read'em. Nice to know you are still passionate about music, hope you could fix your computer soon. I got an EP yesterday by an australian power pop band called Humminbirds, they're great. Sure Depeche Mode can't do no wrong :)
When I first started going out with my [later-to-be] wife, I happened to put on the “Daisies of the Galaxy “ CD by Eels in the car and she exclaimed “ooh power pop!” I have no idea if that was correct (genre-wise) but the sound and mood of that album is what defined it to me.
G’Day Hannah you am I are a much loved band here down Under Heavy Heart is the most beautiful song you will love it when you get to number 4 record and also Rumble I can listen to those songs over and over this is their best album in my opinion love you and your channel
Hi Robert! G'day to you as well! I can't wait to spin #4 Record this week since you praised it so highly! What a great band. I am a big fan of them now! Hope all is well and I appreciate the kinds words. Hope to see you back here! :)
Yeah Pezband! Hi Hanna. Finally catching up with TH-cam videos. I see my pal Flash Gordon has a new video. Nice to see new videos. I am doing ok. Trying to get my mind away from the whole Pandemic mess. Missing my cousins but they are in peace now. I’m going back to making new videos to help my soul. I am doing a Quarantine series of videos - an album a day of what I’ve listening this past week. Probably 5 videos. Also filmed a quick 1989 A look back video yesterday. I’ll see when to post these new videos. It’s a beautiful day in NYC . I am going to Prospect Park by my home in Brooklyn at 3PM with Don. I heard there’s many people at this time. Runners, bike riders, walkers. I’m trying to avoid large crowds. We are all tired of quarantine here but it’s important. I’m working from home, that’s good. Anyway great video, cool 90’s picks and CD’s. I still love CD’s. I have to sign on to FB. Have a great day this coming week, stay safe.
Hey Robert! I understand about you wanting to get your mind on other things. Good idea to try to avoid the larger crowds. It sickens me that people are protesting, etc in certain states and ignoring orders. I still love CDs, too! I've been buying lots of cheap ones online during this quarantine. Take care, my friend.
Hi Hanna, I never understood people that doesn't like CD's cause that was the original format from 1990 to 2005 or 2007. At least for me, that was the best time for music in general. Artists from that era put out music with the CD in mind, could do longer songs or have more than 20 tracks if they wanted, was a different format than the LP altogether, an LP from that era is just a copy really. So if you want to make a respectable collection from the 90's and 2000's (power pop, punk and pop punk, shoegaze, hip hop, neo soul, trip hop, brit pop, grunge, latin rock, post rock, garage revival, dance, electronica) you have to buy lots of CD's, unless you are a millionare or something to aford all that on vinyl lol. And you are right Hanna, artwork from CD's is cooler than vinyl's most of the time ¡
Hey Alejandro! Yeah, CDs were the main format from the 90s to the 2000s, like you said. Nothing wrong with CDs. A lot of 90s stuff hasn't been pressed to vinyl yet anyway. I think a lot of vinyl reissues that are coming out now from that era are coming from digital sources anyway. I've been buying a lot more CDs these days and I'm proud of it! :-)
@@TheOmahaIntrovert I really love my CD's too, and the title of your channel doesn't have the word vinyl in it, so you are "allowed" to talk about music in any format :). You can speak to the Vinyl Community or to the CD Community, it doesn't matter.
Hey Hannah, you’re probably aware of this but Material Issue had a posthumous release in ‘97 called Telecommando Americano and I think it’s every bit as good as the debut. It also includes their debut ep. Have you seen IPO on vinyl ever? It’s really expensive on Discogs. A local store here has a copy for $100 but it’s pretty beat up. It’s one of my grails.
Hey Dave! Thanks for watching! Yes, I need to get Freak City Soundtrack and Telecommando on CD from Material Issue still. I have NEVER seen IPO on vinyl. I know it's super rare and expensive. Cool that a local store has it, but bummer it's not in good shape! We need a good reissue soon! I'll be first in line to buy it! Take care.
That record show was tiny but packed a punch. I forgot you found that PezBand and that Blue Ash. Very cool the bass player reached out to you. Speaking of Portland, what was that store with all the Blue Note? You remember? CDs are the economically sensible way to acquire music. In the end that’s what it’s all about. Wilkerson has an Emmitt Rhodes influence? Intrigued. Tra La La song? I’ll have to check it out. Like the Banana Splits? Thank you by the way for the cds you sent. I have yet to spin the power pop one. But I’m going to today. The Sam Cooke went immediately in the player. Missed the band name but Zombies influence? I need to backtrack. Friends? Never heard if it. Were they on Mannix? Joke. I know they were on Have Gun Will Travel. 😂 Small Faces? All due respect, no one compares to them. Not even your beloved ‘oooo. 😉
Thanks, Bo! That last record show we attended turned out to be pretty damn good for power pop! And also found Crocodiles from Echo & the Bunnymen, too! I think Exiled Records was the Portland store with all the Blue Note jazz records. Wilkerson definitely has an Emmit Rhodes influence, along with ELO and Beatles. I'm getting into ELO again, which means I'll be picking up more of their albums when this is all over! Yeah, check out Liz Phair and Material Issue's version of the Tra La La song! I'll send it to you. Fun stuff. Glad you liked the Sam Cooke CD. It's just a basic comp but it had your name on it. The Who trump the Small Faces, sorry. Hehehe!
No worries if you've heard them before but I recommend the band Superdrag. They had a minor hit in the 90's called "Sucked Out," kinda sounds like a cross between Weezer and Elvis Costello. Also, if you like XTC, there's an obscure band called the Sugarplastic that you might enjoy. Their album Bang The Earth Is Round is great, also from the 90's.
Thanks so much, James! I love Superdrag. Hard to find their stuff on vinyl but I think I'll be picking up their CDs very soon. Sucked Out is awesome! I'll have to check out Sugarplastic. Thanks so much for the recommendations!
@@TheOmahaIntrovert You're welcome! The Sugarplastic are certainly quirky, but you might enjoy them if you like XTC. Einstein's Sister are another obscure power pop band from the 90's, very Elvis Costello/Squeeze-influenced. I believe they're from Iowa or somewhere in the Midwest. I'm glad you like Superdrag, too!
You can add The Wondermints and the Lickerish Quartet! The latter being former members of Jellyfish! A little surprised nobody mentioned these two bands😛😝💫🎵🎶
If you enjoyed Dwight Twilley, you should check out former band member, Phil Seymour's work. His song, "Precious to Me" is a magnificent piece of Power Pop!
@@TheOmahaIntrovert First time I've seen you. Enjoyed your video! Best wishes! Just in case you haven't heard the song... th-cam.com/video/GhSALyVvF7Y/w-d-xo.html
Hey Andrew! Material Issue's IPO CD is pretty easy to find used on eBay, etc. Vinyl copies are rare and expensive! We need a reissue! So cool you saw them on that tour!
@@TheOmahaIntrovert funny story about that show too. We went out to eat after the show, it was part of a festival. Mostly local stuff with Material Issue and Violent Femmes headlining for a new Alternative station in 1992. Well we needed the waitress to come over and I yelled out "hey Kim" and she came over. Her name? Kim.
Hi Hanna, I wondered if you own the Sneakers album, "In The Red, Jeopardy by The Sound and anything by , Game Theory ? oh yeah also Jeff Runnings has a gorgeous solo Lp/cd called Primitives and Smalls, which is wonderful, also I cannot recommend the first album by Temples album, Sun Structures, it's awesome.
Hey Jeff. I featured Game Theory in this jangle pop video: th-cam.com/video/tz5aeJF83-8/w-d-xo.html Also, I believe I featured The Sound's Jeopardy in my Austin record show video recap from last year. As for the Sneakers, I have a comp on both vinyl and CD of theirs! :-) I'll have to explore more from Jeff Runnings, so thank you for the recommendation!
I have also decided that if I can’t find something I want on vinyl that’s affordable then I’ll pick it up on CD I mean a lot of late 80’s and 90’s is next to impossible to find on wax so if you want it CD is the answer Check out a group called Tripping Daisy and the album is “I am an Elastic Firecracker” on CD Great trippy Power pop from 90’s that you will not find on vinyl but do not deprive yourself of it Pick it up You’ll Love It !! Peace ☮️ Brian
Hey again! I know this TH-cam realm is "The Vinyl Community" overall, but it's kind of weird that people don't shows CDs, too. I mean, it should be all about the music after all. Glad you still pick up CDs. Very affordable right now...well, I paid up for a few because it's that or pay hundreds for an LP lol. I've heard of Tripping Daisy but I don't think I've listened to that one, so I'll sample it! Thanks for the rec! Peace, Brian!
Hey Hanna, are you familiar with Superdrag (you probably are)? If not, please check ‘Sold You An Alibi’ from their 1998 record ‘Headtrip In Every Key’ and the entirety of ‘Regretfully Yours’. Right up your alley. Cheers, Miss Hanna! 👍🏻
Hi Tony! Superdrag are amazing. I'd love to get some of their stuff on vinyl. I think it may be hard to find now and I missed out on the reissues. Stellar, underrated band! Cheers!
From Dwight Twilley, Twilley and Jungle are really good albums too. Tom Petty and Mike Campbell collaborated in the song titled "Girls". Another ones of my favorites: The A''s - The A's Code Blue - Code Blue Any Trouble - Where are all the nice gilrs The Sports - Don't throw stones Accidents - Kiss me on the apocalypse 999 - Separates Dirty Looks - Dirty Looks ( do not confuse with the heavy band) The Records - Shades on bed The Nerves - One way ticket Paul Collins Beat - Paul Collins Beat (best power pop album ever in my opinion) The kids are the same The Stems - At first sight violets are blue DM3 - Road to Rome
Hey there! Definitely check out my first power pop video where I featured a few of these. That Records album made my top 10! I'm just now discovering the Stems, but hard to getting a CD or vinyl of theirs here in the states. I think I have a CD-R of that Any Trouble album somewhere. I need to find it again. You gave me a lot more to discover! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! I appreciate it!
Hi, Hanna. Yes, you mentioned some record of my list in the other video. Plimsouls is another of my favorite bands of this genre. I prefer Everywhere at once to the first album, although the first one is great too. I didn''t know many groups that you mention in this video, especiallly in the last part. Thanks!
Dwight TWILlEY ,you made a rare discovery for sure ,he and Phil Seymour were a great pair but they could hardly get their albums noticed..The critics loved Dwight but luck was not with him until 1984 with Girls... I'm a bit surprised that you have not ran across Rick Derringer and I dont think about the term power pop much but he probably is a great candidate for that sub category ..He was the leader of The McCoys in the late 60s and then he played with Johnny Winter and then Edgar Winter and the solo by 1973 with the album All American Boy...That lp cover is Glamed up and he is way over dressed for it but the rest makes up for that and it was his only gold selling lp ..Rick is a true song craftier and very unique like Twilley but like Dwight Twilley ,he was too ignored .. .Interesting set you have here ..
Hi there! It's a shame that Dwight and Phil didn't get more recognition at the time. I'll have to check out Rick Derringer. Thank you for being here on my channel! Hope all is going well. Cheers! Power pop forever!
Your well-informed presentations are fabulous! Sadly, I have a habit, of, not watching content thoroughly enough, sorry. Who's your favorite music importer, and why? Thank you.
Thank you, Al! Hope you are able to catch my other videos! I order quite a bit from get_importcds off of eBay. They frequently have a 20% off sale. Other than that I try to scoop up as much as possible at record shows, where I find my best deals! I'll have a record show finds video soon!
14:42...ah-ha! Tra-La la..the Banana Splits! You should check out the Banana Splits album..interesting listen from 1969. The Twilley song for me is 'Girls' Also, check out 'Cigarette Dangles' on that TPOH cd.
I really should check out the original Banana Splits album, huh?! I'll definitely pay attention to Cigarette Dangles on the Pursuit of Happiness album, thanks! Take care.
Great Video! Don't get me started on Powerpop! If you want recommendations,I could give you a list of countless bands nobody has even heard of! Start with that Semantics CD-It's called "Powerbill" their one and only release! Classic! Listening to it right now!
Hey Charles! I'd love to find Powerbill from the Semantics easily, but it's pretty rare now! And only made in Japan apparently! It is great. I sampled it myself. :-) Later, my friend!
As with the previous video you mention a few bands that I had never really thought of as power pop. I tend to think of power pop as a style that crosses multiple genres. It certainly would never have occurred to me that Big Star, for instance was power pop. Did you check out that band I mentioned via email - Jackdaw4? I'm not sure if they count as power pop, but they are excellent. One band I saw live many decades ago certainly is power pop though. Have you ever heard the UK band, Yachts? I saw them in April 1977 as support to what I believe to have been Elvis Costello's 2nd ever gig at The Nashville Rooms in London & loved them. One of my greatest disappointments was that their original vocalist, John J.J. Campbell, left after the first single - the excellent "Suffice To Say" (which does appear on the US release of their first self-titled album). I still liked the band a lot, but they definitely lost something when Campbell left. Interestingly, while checking my facts on Discogs, I see that the track 'Do the Chud', by the Chuddy Nuddies, which appeared on a split 7" single with 'Big in Japan' by Big in Japan was actually Yachts. I learn something every day. I really need to get the 3CD compilation, 'Suffice To Say - The Complete Yachts Collection'. at some point, as that has everything.
Hey Dave. Yes, I'm behind on replying to your email yet again, my friend. I have not heard of the Yachts but I'm curious to check 'em out! Discogs definitely is a learning experience...you can find many interesting things while using that app! You'll see in a future video that another rock subgenera I'll focus on is also tied to power pop in a way. Power pop does cross over. Stay safe!
@@TheOmahaIntrovert I also discovered that the original Yachts vocalist went o to join a band called It's Immaterial, who I remember hearing & liking, but I don't remember anything else about them.
hi, if you like female singer, you have to listen to this : Tina & The Total Babes - She's So Tuff (the graal), The Bobbyteens - Not So Sweet, Tina Lucchesi is the queen of power pop, and this Nikki And The Corvettes - Nikki And The Corvettes, Nikki Corvette And The Stingrays - Back To Detroit, Baby Shakes - The First One (they have 4 albums), Pale Lips - Wanna Be Bad (2 albums)...tomorrow the men...
Wow, thank you for all these female-fronted band recommendations! I really appreciate that. I'll be keeping busy researching and sampling them this week! Take care, my friend!
If anyone here can recommend a power pop album from 2000- present, id like to hear it. I’m new to this genre and I’ve completely embraced and enjoyed it…. Especially the 90’s artists like the posies, jellyfish, Matthew Sweet and teenage fanclub r probably my favorites
One of my favourite power pop bands is the Genuine Fakes from Sweden. Check out their 'Striped Album' on Bandcamp, it's so good! (There's a few tracks on TH-cam but it's worth listening to the whole lp in full). Check out their cover of Beyoncé's Irreplaceable on TH-cam for a quick introduction (I'd been listening to it for years before I found out it was a cover 🤪) Do you know The Bats, Jon Brion's first band? I literally woke up with one of their songs in my head this morning. They only did one single and one lp (both of which I would love to own!) but both are really great records, well worth checking out 🙂 (Their Discogs page has TH-cam links 👍)
Hey there. I know of the Bats and have Daddy's Highway and The Law of Things, but I'm unfamiliar with the Bats band you mention with Jon Brion. Looks like I have some exploring to do. I'll check out the Genuine Fakes, too. I really appreciate the recommendations! Both have been added to my sample list. Thanks for checking out my video!
@@TheOmahaIntrovert I'd forgotten how good the Genuine Fakes are actually, check out the Big Star influences on this, best way you'll spend three minutes today! th-cam.com/video/Pn1M1D3xo9k/w-d-xo.html (currently sat at 25 views in three years so give it some love!)
Hello Hanna; Nice Shoes 3cd box set. Pezband's 1st LP, very good power pop along with the 2nd LP. Sample the 3rd LP before buying. Also had two live 12inch EP's both of which you want. Blue Ash good band. Dwight Twilley & The Plimsouls both good debut LP's. Nice selection of CD's, will be reviewing the titles. Be well, Stay healthy & safe. Tina & Pat!~
Hi Tina and Pat! Happy Sunday evening to you! I’m looking forward to getting that second Pezband LP one day! The live eps you mentioned are definitely intriguing me! I hope you’re doing well during this time! 😃
Thanks for the Wilkerson and Elvis Costello tribute reviews !! Both are available here with other great Power Pop : www.petschemusic.com/store/label/spyderpop-records/
@@TheOmahaIntrovert Cool stuff! Send me an email with your mailing info at vic@spyderpoprecords.com and I will make sure you get copies of everything we've released and will release! Also, John Borack and I are in The Used Electrics, a cover band dedicated to 1977-79 punk.
It's "The" Omaha Introvert not Omaha Introvert. I just bought a Sweet (also known as "The" Sweet) cd box set of all their best albums. They are kinda power pop with lipstick and high heels. Take good care of yourself.😷🧤✌ P.S. I downloaded🤫an unofficial Dwight Twilley album where he covers The White Album by " The" Beatles.
Hi there, Robert! Not sure why I never mentioned Sweet. I have Desolation Boulevard on vinyl and love it! That CD box set sounds great! I'll look it up. Dwight Twilley covering the White Album - now that's something I need to hear! Be well.
What worthy power pop albums have you discovered recently?!
Check it out , you'll love it 🎸 👌
Ludwig Hart. Not sure of its power pop though
Thanks, David! I need to catch up on Todd Rundgren for sure. Thanks for giving me the kick to do so!
Love that Saturday Morning Cartoons Greatest Hits! Frente's version of "Let the Sun Shine In" is great!
Hannah, thank you so much for the mention. Loved your video! I have a lot of the music you featured in your video in my own collection. Def going to check out some of the ones I don’t have. Cheers!!!
Wow, thank you for being here and for creating such a masterpiece for us to enjoy! 🙏🎶🎶 Cheers!!!
Shoes and Wire's A Bell Is A Cup sold me on your channel. Long time favorites of mine. Subscribed! Thanks for getting so many hidden gems out there.
Awesome video Hanna. Nice Blue Ash. So cool he reached out to you. Good music. Lots of these bands I haven’t heard off. I like that.
Cheers 🍻
Thanks Hanna for the further education in power pop. There are a lot bands I need to discover. Enjoy the rest of the weekend. Steve
Thank you, Steve! Glad I was able to bring your attention to some of these great power pop groups! Working on another genre video lately! Cheers!
The Sighs "What Goes On" is very good, as is The Cavedogs "Joy Rides For Shut-Ins", and Enuff Znuff's "Peach Fuzz". Love your videos! Keep 'em coming.
Thanks, David! I've recently been sampling the Cavedogs and have really been enjoying them. I appreciate the other recommendations, too! Cheers~
Hey JJ! Glad to hear you're also a massive fan of this Twilley record! Power pop on!
aka That Tulsa dude.
Owsley came out on vinyl for the first time!! 2023!! you MUST get it!!!! NB
Good to see a video Hanna, hope your staying safe. Keep rockin to power pop such a great genre full of amazing musicians, Cheers Snowy
Thanks, Snowy! Love to explore this genre! Like psych, it can be a rabbit hole!!! Cheers!
Fun video Hanna. CDs are still awesome if you ask me. I prefer vinyl, but I still buy CDs as well. Rock On!
Take care.
I'm a new fan of your posts! You know your stuff re: Power Pop. Kudos!
I appreciate the kind words, Mark! Glad you found this video! Hope you liked the other power pop video offerings as well! Cheers!
Definitely some cool showing my friend! You're slowly making me pull the trigger into getting deeper into the relm of power pop! Lol! All the best!
Thanks, Mike! Power pop is a good rabbit hole to go down! So many awesome bands in this genre! Take care.
I haven’t seen that one on vinyl yet...now that would make me jealous! ;)
I’d be first in line to buy an In Reverse vinyl reissue for sure!!!
Hey I really enjoyed this! Glad to see your staying safe, I am going straight out of my head not working..lol. Thanks for being part of the VC. Peace
Thanks so much for the kind comment, Rod! Thank God for music right now, right?! Hang in there. ✌️
Great video! I'm looking forward to future videos
Thanks, Jeff! More coming soon. Glad you liked it! Take care.
Take care!
The Omaha Introvert Great!! Yes, Stems is a bit hard to come by, probably have to get them through discogs or eBay.
I’ve been a fan of Power Pop since the late 2000s,some of the first bands I discovered were Big Star,The Posies and Teenage Fanclub..great video! ✌️😎🎶
Right on! I think my love for power pop started in the late 90s with Matthew Sweet. Then an ex introduced me to #1 Record/Radio City from Big Star and I was done for! Lots of great band discoveries after that! Thanks for watching! Peace.
Dwight Twilley excellent choice! Little bit twang in Dwight's power pop rock...Oister...you know your Anglo rock...kudos
That Semantics record is one of the best hidden gems of 90s power pop. Wish that would get a reissue soon. Killer selections.
Dang, that Semantics is a bit hard to find on CD! One day I hope to get it! A reissue would be awesome!
Hi Hanna
Another very good video.
Pete Townsend coined the name Power Pop in 1967 when describing Pictures of Lilly 😳 as you probably know .love your videos your very knowledgeable 😉
Hi Robin! Yep, covered that in my first power pop video a few months ago. :-) I hope you check it out!
Talk soon,
Brian🍀
I managed to see Jellyfish one time, opening for World Party at The Ritz NYC (midtown one) in 1990 or so. A very cool band.
What a concert that must have been! Love World Party, too. What a perfect opening band!
@@TheOmahaIntrovert I don't recall much of that night, honestly, but Jellyfish were a fun band for sure, and World Party was great as always. I managed to catch the
recent triumphant return of World Party about four years ago now or so here on Long Island, somehow all of a sudden, they announced a show out in this theater
in Riverhead, LI, about a two hour drive from home at the time, and I wasn't going to be asked twice, so I got like a front row table seat for it!!
I was hoping
they'd come back again for more shows, but so much for 2020 I guess. Gary from China Crisis is the funniest bastard I've ever seen, although Karl Wallinger was equally
amusing, I must say.
I was off at some point between bands
buying rock buttons and stuff in the little kiosk near the front foyer, of course.
Not forgetting Dillon Fence, Outsdie In, another brilliant collection of songs.
Thanks for reminding me about them! I'm gonna track that down on used CD!
Awesome update, Hanna!
Thanks, Tony! Hope all is well with you!😁
Hi Hanna great video and i am happy you still love Cds has well has vinyl lps i am into both also, i try to buy both cd and vinyls of the same album lol this way i can play the cd more then my lps but at times i do play the lps anyway great vinyl my friend..and stay safe out there
Hey Curtis! Nothing wrong with buying lots of CDs still. I think there are a lot of people who shun CDs, but it's all about the music for me. Be safe!
Wow. Recommendation overload. Thank you. What about liquerish quartet?
You just blew my mind with Lickerish Quartet! WOW! Just listened to one of their songs. Totally gonna order their CD. Thank you!
Good stuff, and many good leads for me to follow. Can I throw on the pile Teenage Fanclub? Particularly “Bandwagonesque”
I believe I talk about Teenage Fanclub more in depth in this video: th-cam.com/video/whxk-I0Xrm0/w-d-xo.html
Power pop rules!
Cheers!
Saw Dwight Twilley in around 1980 or so at Pogos in Omaha. I see Chris Bell/I Am The Cosmos, back there. Fantastic record.
Thanks for catching this one, Jeff. Hope you like my power pop series! Be well. I'm jealous you got to see Dwight Twilley that year!

Love 'You Were So Warm', Nada Surf did a great cover of it if you weren't already aware - which you probably were 😀
Yep, from that covers album. So excellent!
SuperDeluxe was great! Do you like The Greenberry Woods? Superdrag? Supergrass? Smoking Popes? Soul Coughing?
Love all of these but I'm unfamiliar with Smoking Popes.
@@TheOmahaIntrovert check out BORN TO QUIT and DESTINATION FAILURE
When I first started going out with my [later-to-be] wife, I happened to put on the “Daisies of the Galaxy “ CD by Eels in the car and she exclaimed “ooh power pop!” I have no idea if that was correct (genre-wise) but the sound and mood of that album is what defined it to me.
Hi Salim. Very sweet story! I'll need to check out that Eels album for sure! :-)
The Club Wow CD on Zero Hour is great!
Hey Stephen! Awesome that you dig Club Wow! Rock on!
G’Day Hannah you am I are a much loved band here down Under Heavy Heart is the most beautiful song you will love it when you get to number 4 record and also Rumble I can listen to those songs over and over this is their best album in my opinion love you and your channel

Make sure you get that second Pezband LP, if you havent already, if you liked the first that much, thr second will blow you away!
Thanks for watching, Neil! Yes, I just got the 2nd Pezband album a few weeks ago! :-)
@@MsKalachakra Music community could solve any confusion. ;-) Hehe! Long live CDs, cassettes, vinyl, etc!
Also 'The Kids Are The Same' by Paul Collins Beat is pretty great.
Take care.
SUGARBOMB. "Motormouth" as well as all of their one album. You won't be disappointed.
Thanks for the recommendation! Need to check them out!
Hehehe!
The Omaha Introvert oh you’re so very wrong about the small faces. But that’s ok. No one is perfect . Except Steve Marriott. Hahaha.
🤣🤣🤣

Another ones of my favorites:
The A''s - The A's
Code Blue - Code Blue
Any Trouble - Where are all the nice gilrs
The Sports - Don't throw stones
Accidents - Kiss me on the apocalypse
999 - Separates
Dirty Looks - Dirty Looks ( do not confuse with the heavy band)
The Records - Shades on bed
The Nerves - One way ticket
Paul Collins Beat - Paul Collins Beat (best power pop album ever in my opinion)
The kids are the same
The Stems - At first sight violets are blue
DM3 - Road to Rome
Thanks!
Glad I introduced you to some new ones!!! 😀
@@TheOmahaIntrovert Great thanks .. I will send a sample of his music so you can get a good idea of what he did..
The Twilley song for me is 'Girls'
Also, check out 'Cigarette Dangles' on that TPOH cd.
I really should check out the original Banana Splits album, huh?! I'll definitely pay attention to Cigarette Dangles on the Pursuit of Happiness album, thanks! Take care.
Check out Boston’s best: “Reddy Teddy.” Boston’s WHO. Thank you.
Dwight twilley first album masterpiece ❤
hi, if you like female singer, you have to listen to this : Tina & The Total Babes - She's So Tuff (the graal), The Bobbyteens - Not So Sweet, Tina Lucchesi is the queen of power pop, and this Nikki And The Corvettes - Nikki And The Corvettes, Nikki Corvette And The Stingrays - Back To Detroit, Baby Shakes - The First One (they have 4 albums), Pale Lips - Wanna Be Bad (2 albums)...tomorrow the men...
From 2019, Donnie Vie "Beautiful Things". Enjoy...
I love CDs! Prefer them over vinyl---HERESY!
Haha! No shame in saying that. In fact, CDs are still my first love. I still buy lots of 'em!
i have twilleys first three. as teens we loved this band tom petty played we them before he was huge
yhey were all on shelter label. its o n you tube.
Hi again, Gerard! I'm thinking about spinning some Twilley later today. The only question is, which one? Such decisions!
Blue Ash is a little dump of a town on the north side of Cincinatti.
Fantastic band, though! :-)
One of my favourite power pop bands is the Genuine Fakes from Sweden. Check out their 'Striped Album' on Bandcamp, it's so good! (There's a few tracks on TH-cam but it's worth listening to the whole lp in full). Check out their cover of Beyoncé's Irreplaceable on TH-cam for a quick introduction (I'd been listening to it for years before I found out it was a cover 🤪)
Do you know The Bats, Jon Brion's first band?
Thanks so much for checking out my video, Alan! Love these releases! Power pop forever!
Pezband second album is even better
Material Issue greatest under rated band ever
My friend, I TOTALLY agree! I can't wait to see the new documentary! Peace.
@@TheOmahaIntrovert Yes indeed bought a box of tissues just for it lol
It's "The" Omaha Introvert not Omaha Introvert. I just bought a Sweet (also known as "The" Sweet) cd box set of all their best albums. They are kinda power pop with lipstick and high heels. Take good care of yourself.😷🧤✌
Be well.
