I was close to tears watching this review.
Wolfburn is my favourite scotch. Discovered it back in 2018, shortly after I've expanded from being a bourbon-only drinker. I fell in love with the Northland and then the Langskip expressions.
I was bummed it didn't get the praise it deserves; that it got lumped with generic NAS. This review is spot on. I don't think 83/100 tells anyone anything but just look at how much joy and flavour Ralphy gets from the first couple of sips and you have a pretty good picture of a Wolfburn experience.
Thanks, Ralphy, for once again telling as it is! Best wishes from Poland, where there is still a handful of European wolves left.

Wolfburn is a distillery I’m yet to explore. As the years go by, it’s becoming increasingly more difficult to ignore that’s for sure.

Glad to see a distillery actually do only a double-distillation. Sometimes I wonder if triple-distillation (like Irish whiskey) strips too much flavor from the original distillate. Also, very light color for a dram so packed with flavor. As we learned, color does not necessarily indicate flavor.

yeah, you have to love nippy whiskies to really appreciate Wolfburn. But hey, sometimes I really am in the mood for that - and then I loves me some Wolfburn! This one is another good example for it.
And I really am looking forward to what it will be like when they get really old whiskiy!

Anticipating the 1000th review. I had the impression you'd do it around Christmas, but then the time factor is tight, isn't it?

I recently open a 3 years old Wolfburn single cask from a 100 litre quarter cask. It was almost 60% ABV, but it does not taste young or nipping. It takes water very well. Nicely matured and rounded. I think even the new make is not rough.

Visited the Wolfburn distillery in July. Wilma was very friendly and allowed me to sample some drams. Came away with a bottle and for a young whisky it's very nice. Great review as always

I find Wolfburn to be a very worthwhile, commendable malt. Speaking of deep north distilleries, have you ever come across any Shetland malts?

Came across an 8 year old Dun Eideann Bourbon Hogshead Single Cask Version of Wolfburn. Bottled at 55.4 %. I think you'd like it too, Ralfy ;) So far I enjoyed every expression I had and will look forward to whatever comes next from that promising distillery.

I was lucky enough to taste Wolfburn when it was not quite yet Whisky and have had the joy to buy several bottles of the first release of 2013 (it's simply called Single Malt) before the name was changed to Northland. Having tasted almost all Wolfburn expressions over the years, I still think that Single Malt and Father's Day 2020 release (which is better than the 2021) are the two best Wolfburns. The standard releases of the Northland, Aurora, and Morven are reasonable priced here in Switzerland. The 10 y old is aleady up there in the price range.

I've tried all 3 expressions (northland, morven and aurora) plus batch 458 and I've found them very promising. Aurora being the weakest of all but I would love to see an age statement version of the morven (peated one)

I have to admit I didn't really enjoy my bottle, I possibly tried it too early into my whisky journey and found it quite complex. Would like to sample it again though

Hellow Ralfy and many many thanks for the video having been pretty educational. I got a question: could ya please tell me if we see a bit of condensate right up the top of the neck of an unopened bottle -is that awful, critical or just ok and a normal thing sometimes ???(the bottle is new in the store and sealed well , properly and thoroughly)

Nice. How do you feel the Langskip would compare to this? I am thinking about picking up a bottle next time im in Scotland.

    • @jackthepickledhound
      @jackthepickledhound ปีที่แล้ว +1

All the comments are very positive on the Langskip.
I paid very little for my bottle of Aurora and almost 3x for the Langskip. I think they figured a way to bottle the word "potential".
In other words, it's young and I've had it for 2 years so that was before we all agreed to support new distilleries.
I'd rather spend $10/year to get an age statement but if you want the experience your have to put your money on the barrel.

@@pxlpuffin I have the bottle down about halfway and poured a dram tonight.
58%, added 2-3mls of water and it eventually opened up to be very meaty. Not at all as I remember. I thought it was lemon and alcohol. Not any more
