    This song and the way they sang it is really a tear jerker. So much passion pride and patriotism is felt from this song right here. As a nation I know they are all proud to wave their flags high and song their hearts out. Thanks for sharing this with us.

      I think Polish people are even more patriotic, regarding how many times they had to fight for their, and for Britain's existence.
      Some of it is told in Sabatons songs, like 40 to 1, Uprising, Winged Hussars, Prisoner 4589 and Aces in exile.
      Watch the live video of 40:1 from Woodstock 2012 and you get what I mean.

      In some countries you have to search to find their national flag on any building. (Took me 3 days to see one in Tokyo). That's what pisses me off about the USA...stars and stripes on garbage collectors jackets, on suit lapels, even in sports gyms covering the whole wall. I don't know where this is coming from...is it to remind theme where they live? We'd laugh about it here.

Some Countries mock us & ridicule us but as the old saying goes, the sun never sets on the British Empire, because in bygone days we ruled most of the free world. As you doubtless know, this is the first of a series of marches composed by Sir Edward Elgar entitled "Pomp and Circumstances. The first time it was performed there probably would not have been any vocals. However as a march it was so thoroughly premiered and was so well received that the orchestra had to perform it again immediately. (encore). I believe the words came later, correct me if am wrong. Incidentally
    the other four marches are amazing and very worth listening to.

    • @Langstrath
      @Langstrath 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are correct; there were no vocals in the original. This Pomp and Circumstance March No.1 was composed by Sir Edward Elgar and first performed in October 1901 in Liverpool, UK (along with March No.2) and then 2 days later at a Proms concert in London where a double encore was played due to popular demand. The lyrics 'Land of Hope and Glory' were written later (in 1902) by A.C. Benson at Elgar's request for the Trio section of the March. Elgar then incorporated the revised version into his 'Coronation Ode' which he composed for the coronation of Edward VII.

    The last nights of the proms is one of the few times in the year you are allowed to be patriotic. It just a bit of fun a chance to wave the flag and have a good night. Always great to see flags of 'friendly' countries at the event.

      I don't think I ever will afford to be inside the Albert Hall but it should be fun to be outside in Hyde Park with many thousands of other music lovers.
      And I will fly the flag of my club, Malmö FF, the most champions of Sweden in football.

    As an Englishman, I sit here with great pride, not just for our music, but really for your appreciation of what we (the real) English are about. We don't shout about what we are, but in battle, my goodness, enemies have found out to their cost what it is to take us on.
    I'm so glad you like our little tradition here. Every year it is performed in the Royal Albert Hall and televised all around the country. We have the pride, the culture, and simply what it is to be English/British. And please share it with us.
    Huge best wishes from me here in Yorkshire.

    We don't shove being patriotic down people's throats. We don't pledge allegiance to a piece of cloth. On some occasions, we unite and come together as one. They're the times we show the love for our country.

    My suggestion would be to reverse the views. The Subject (The Proms) should be big and the Reactioner (You) should be in the small window. I know well enough how pretty you are.

    Land of Hope and Glory, Mother of the Free,
    How shall we extol thee, who are born of thee?
    Wider still and wider shall thy bounds be set;
    God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet,
    God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet.

    This is the music we march into at graduation. As an American this song gives you pride no matter where you are from. Especially since I actually got to live to see my son march in during this song. Although it didn't have the lyrics the music itself does something to you.
