All I ever wanted when I passed my test was a Triumph Classic.I have an old 2016 StreetTwin.Luckily it came with lots of extras and was in very good condition.
I purchased one of the first Hinckley Bonnevilles in 2001 London, toured Scotland France, Ireland and every weekend ride outs. Since then I have owned 4 including a Scrambler. The aircooled bikes I have seen run well over 100K miles with only minors like oil changes, valves never moved from the 1st or second adjustment, they are not the bargain of a lifetime. The liquid coolers like this will have the same longevity but the Cam does not have to be removed for valve adjustments so far easier. Yes these are the retro no matter what others may assume. A true lifetime bike.
I got my 2014 Triumph Bonneville T100 as my first bike about 9 months ago now after passing my test. Honestly, I couldn't ask for a better first machine to get comfortable on. It's not scary with its power and suited for new full licence riders. I've taken mine around the UK and over to calais as well. Fanatastic first bike !
Recently purchased a 2017 T100 as my first bike .Paid $7,500 US for it. Only 4,000 miles on the clock, with a center stand, and rear bag rack. Just as you said, the dealer just did a service on it so hopefully last a good while. Mine is the orange and white one and I couldn't be happier, thanks for sharing.
4000 miles is super low. The orange combo is one of my favourites. I was quite lucky too as my bike came with a centre stand and even heated grips. Happy riding!
I've put 128,000Km on my 2017 T100. It's a dream...keep a close eye on wiring from Reg/Rec situated under headlamp. Both sides liable to fray and you're stuck. I put longer wire on mine
Just over £4k....wow you did well Steve. I do all my own work also.....although not req I wanted to check the valve gaps at 4000mls.....glad I did....3 of the 4 exhausts were a tad over max spec....the other was right on it....all inlets were still well in spec. I was looking for the source of a cold start tapping noise....comes in gradually from around 30secs after a cold start. Disappears as the motor warms....maybe 1 to 2 mins....again gradually. I never did find what it is.....dont get any worse. Dealers looked 3 times....said long as it goes soon after cold start ignore it..... Its out of warranty now so I have no choice....still wish I knew what it is. Dont seem to have any ill effects....others i have spoken to have the same problem. Love to hear from any other with this cold start tap. Still love it to bits. Carried out a few mods maily to take a bit of the modereness off it and put my mark on it....nothing drastic. Your like me Steve....like your old school stuff....my daily driver is a 50 year old Series Land rover I bought new in 1975.....my hand are the old hands that have touched it....love your aircooled camper...my daughter had a T5 camper. Nick from Cheshire.
Thanks nick, I appreciate that 👍🏻 Interesting to hear about the tapping issue. My first thoughts when reading was maybe the oil type is incorrect? or the clearances/tolerances from manufacturing that expand when warmed up. The good news is that it disappears after a couple of minutes so if it’s allowed time to idle and warm up on start, you should be fine. Does this occur year round and is the bike stored indoors or outside? (Thinking cold weather might play a part) It’s got my cogs turning now 😂 Happy riding Nick.
@@surfingsteven1624 Hi Steve.....thanks so much for taking an interest in my bike..... Re the oil used in the bike...yes its the correct spec as per the Triumph hand book Castrol fully synthetic 10w-40....would need to look at the book to confirm...that's from memory.... Same all year....I think the same as you...something is expanding.....but why dont all these engine do it I ask.....most dont but been in touch with a fare few around the world with the same prob.....swapped vids. And nobody gets a satisfactory response from Triumph. Its odd it not there soon as the engine fires up cold....but only shows its self after around 30secs or so. Yes always let the motor idle from cold for a few mins.....at least till the tapping stops. Good chance its happening on lots more bikes but the owners dont have tuned ears for engine noises. But the engineering is fantastic on our Triumph bikes.....I do love mine......cant see me ever parting with it. P.S. odd but this tapping started exactly at the first start up after the first oil change at 500 mls.....when the Thicker running in oil was drained.....other have said the same....odd
@@surfingsteven1624 yes it’s more free to rev and the dyno graph clearly shows this. I did a 3000ml tour around Scotland and it performed well giving a 220ml tank range. I’ve also droped the foot pegs 15mm and have a King and Queen seat fitted for leg comfort on long trips.(don’t particularly like the looks but easy enough to fit the standard one). I did 500mls in a day to get home and could quite happily have done more and I’m a 70year old git!!
I bought a 2020 T100 Bud Ekins SE in 2021. Absolutely loving it. Thought about a T120, but I don’t carry a pillion (I took the rear pegs off, so she can’t come) so no need for the extra grunt. Besides, 80mph is a max. if you don’t want the airflow to ping you off the back. If I ride the fast roads, cruising at 70mph is just fine, with plenty in reserve for a swift overtake. Motone do lots of nice, high quality bling to personalise your Bonneville ride, too. Get out there with you polishing rags … Spring is just around the corner, at last!
Shame your camera angle meant we could only see 2/3 of your bike. But what we can see looks good. I really like the colour scheme of the petrol tank. It does look nice. Take a full dealer history with a pinch of salt. I bought a dark navy blue Triumph Sprint ST1050 2008 in 2014 unseen through a dealer with 7k on the clock, one previous owner mint condition except one tiny chip on the tank which the dealer told me about and provided lots of pics, with full Triumph luggage, but that's where the good stuff ended. Just after it was delivered, I bough it on line, I checked the fluids. The brake fluid was like treacle, the coolant was the colour of coffee, there were spiders and cobwebs, leaves, in the air box. The air filter was filthy. The oil and filter had been changed but that was probably the dealer I bought it off. The rear hub hadn't been touched ie cleaned and regreased, ever. The throttle bodies were not balanced. The service book is just a tick box exercise imho. So I have serviced it myself ever since and it continues to be spot on 8-9 years later. I also have a Speed Triple 1050 RS I bought from Triumph dealer Laguna with only 1200 miles on the clock. From day one I had big big problems but with 150-200 miles the gearbox was f**ked as it kept jumping violently out and back into 4th gear. A known problem with the Speed Triple RS and also 1050 Tigers. Anyway I was without my bike pretty much for a full year finally got it back feb 2023 with a fully rebuilt gearbox, the cost of which was around £2,300. Eventually after a big fight with Triumph's warranty company they paid, but Triumph themselves were a dead loss. I am still hundreds of pounds out of pocket transporting my bike to the dealer and back as it was mid winter by the time the dealer I eventually found could do it and who eventually took the repair on and fixed it. I paid for a new battery as the battery was dead on delivery, a full service which Laguna never ever did despite me insisting it was a condition of me buying the bike. I foolishly bought it unseen on their website. They described it as mint pretty much new condition. You don't expect a bike with only 1,200 miles on the clock in such pristine condition for it's gearbox to totally fail and need a full rebuild. So take dealer service history with a pinch of salt. I am much more impressed if an owner who is clearly a bike enthusiast has regularly serviced and maintained their bike because at least the servicing actually have been done!
Thanks for commenting Alex. Your right when it comes to using 'some' garages to service our vehicles. How do we know they used correct oil? Did they change the brake fluid as it's difficult to check? I once had a similar experience at Volkswagen. I had a 1997 VW T4 and I paid VW to service it with timing belt, crankshaft seals, fuel pump timing as it was out etc and when I called to check progress, they told me yes it's nearly done. I was quite tempted to test ride the W800 Alan but I never got the opportunity. The Z900rs is also very nice but apparently it’s a different beast altogether. Let me know what you decide to do 👍🏻
My first bike was 2009 Bonnie SE ( mag wheel ). Paid $4000.00. Changed exhaust, bars and a few other things. I’ve had it for 3 years and will probably never get rid of it. I change oil, chain and tires. That’s about it
Thanks for commenting 👍🏻 Do you use Triumph made parts for servicing or other? I’ve seen non-triumph oil filters which look as good but for less money so tempted to use those.
Do you know if having the bike de-cat is road legal or like if it brings the cost of insurance up to the sky? I was thinking of doing the same cause I just love the sound.
