Pokémon Go is a 2016 augmented reality (AR) mobile game developed and published by Niantic in collaboration with The Pokémon Company for iOS and Android devices. A part of the Pokémon franchise, the game is the result of a collaboration between Niantic, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. It uses the mobile device GPS to locate, capture, battle, and train virtual creatures, called Pokémon, which appear as if they are in the player's real-world location. The game is free to play; it uses a freemium business model and supports in-app purchases for additional in-game items. The game launched with around 150 species of Pokémon, which had increased to around 500 by 2019.
Pokémon Go was released to mixed reviews; critics praised the concept, but criticized technical problems. It was one of the most used and profitable mobile apps in 2016, having been downloaded more than 500 million times worldwide by the end of the year. It is credited with popularizing location-based and AR technology, promoting physical activity, and helping local businesses grow due to increased foot traffic. However, it attracted controversy for contributing to accidents and creating public nuisances. Various governments expressed concerns about security, and some countries regulate its use. By early 2019, the game had over a billion global downloads, grossing over $3 billion in revenue. The game also had over 147 million monthly active users as of May 2018.

I used to really dislike spoofers. But after the remote raid pass nerfs, sometimes playing with spoofers is the only way I'm going to be able to have enough trainers to defeat a raid boss. I *still* haven't been able to raid Shadow Articuno, for example. My experience has been, as I and MANY others predicted, that the rules followers were going to have a more difficult time getting the numbers to defeat raid bosses. The worst part of the remote raid nerf was the price increase. At least for me it killed it, before I used to do up to 9 raids of the same boss because I didn't want to spend that much for a game. If they kept the raid limit with old price I believe that should help something at least. Imagine living on a small country that doesn't have that many players or a community at all. I have missed a lot of key raid bosses because of that. Spoofing would have given me access to other locations and player that are willing to help to defeat the boss even if it is because of grid.

With the introduction of remote raiding I 100% stopped spoofing and have not since. Proof enough that players are willing to pay (supporting the game) and play legit when a well balanced system is in place. What we have now is NOT balanced.

What Niantic needs to do, is make not just something that convinces people not to spoof but harsher punishment for something like gym hogging and other abusive behavior like what I already mentioned.
Now I know some people are gonna reply to my comment be like "No idiot, Niantic ruined remote raiding for us, we will spoof as much as we want.", yeah you can spoof but that doesn't give you the right to be a bully to other players, especially to those who don't spoof, the world doesn't revolve around you or your wishes, bud.

If i have a paid quest i will do it only if i have to the level 43 quest where it was all pvp, i just did a friend battle to clear it all took forever! But, enough with that tangent. Spoofing will never go away. Even if you put strick log on requirements, it will never go away. The best bet, is do restrict raids in general, give a 5-10 limit to in person raids, and you will see it go away. But if thats the case no one will play in bigger cities. Best thing to stop Spoofing is to make a Raid check in system, and make an algorithm to monitor raid types, and where people are.

I’m shocked Niantic hasn’t made a premium subscription service where people can pay to spoof legally. It would help a lot of rural players out and put the money into Niantics pocket. I don’t have an issue with spoofers since they help with raiding as long as they don’t load gyms down. The truth of the matter is if Niantic gets rid of spoofers it is going to affect the money they take in. When they buckled down on ipogo and pgsharp and made bans not just in waves but permanent they lost a lot of players. Gyms with a ton of people raiding prior would be almost empty and I know they lost players because right after they cracked down on spoofing the box prices went up and they released rare 1 encounter per account costume pokemon that had the potential to be shiny. That led to people opening multiple accounts to try to get a shiny of rare costume pokemon and it made it appear that pokemon go was getting a ton of new players. Then once they nerfed remote raids to 5 a day they made more players angry and people started to look into spoofing again when they had not been. Idk, I still say if they get rid of spoofers completely it will kill Pokémon go.

I am a spoofer, living in a town of 2,000 inhabitants and two gyms. How do you play a game if you don't even have anyone to help you with the gyms? Let's say that spoofing helps to some extent, as you can find Pokémon with perfect IVs and many shinies. However, these remain only for you since few people in your town play the game, and you end up with a private collection that only you look at. As for the gyms, I don't see where the problem lies with spoofers. Even if I put a Pokémon with 100% IVs or a Pokémon with 0% the next day (after 8 hours), their CP has dropped almost to zero, and with one or two battles, you can take over the gym without any effort. Let's talk about PvP. In the past, I played a lot of PvP with perfect IVs on any Pokémon, and let's say that it's still difficult to win, considering that spoofing only accounts for about 10%, 30% is internet connection, and 60% is the player's skill and strategy. It's pointless to have a Grass-type Pokémon against a Fire-type and expect to win without considering swap management. I also take into account the connection because a perfect Pokémon for the Great League (1/15/15) against a regular Pokémon (7/13/14) doesn't change much. I can confirm this because I've had battles with friends, and the one with the better connection would win, as the energy charge for the charged move changes by a few milliseconds. Of course, if you're a spoofer with an excellent connection, you have a higher chance of winning. I've lost many times against people with Pokémon with terrible IVs, but they were better than me at managing swaps and charged moves. To sum it up, in my opinion, spoofing only provides an advantage for a nice collection of rare Pokémon and for eggs (autowalk), but it has little impact on the overall game quality for others. Of course, in this discussion, I always exclude toxic players. I would avoid saying that spoofing ruins the gaming experience; on the contrary, it enhances it because you can have Pokémon that you can't afford, or you can find the Pokémon you like. And obviously, having the freedom to move around and go wherever you want, you're also willing to invest some money gladly. So, Niantic benefits from this. For example, imagine a community day 5,000 km away. I can easily buy the ticket and participate from home, enjoying myself just like people who have money to pay for an airplane ticket or who live there. In short, if I were Niantic, I wouldn't worry about spoofers because they can be a source of profit for them. Instead, I would focus on improving the gaming experience for everyone.

Now that we have to pay so much to only raid 5 times a day, I've been seriously considering GPS spoofing to raid when I get home of the evenings.

But the raids literally nobody does raids around here. I see the occasional one person from outta town come to their second house in our little town and do a raid but it’s always tier 1 or 3s. Never anybody to do the T5s or Mega’s. So my only conclusion is that there are so many spoofers in my town. Or they no insensitive to go out. Every community day I watch for anyone playing so I can ask to maybe befriend them. Since I only started playing towards the beginning of July 2022. I have seen 1 person In my town playing and it was a kid I knew from a long time ago. And he never wants to go raid plus he only just started playing so has no real grasp on the game. Ugh makes me so frustrated, just wish that if they are spoofers in my area that maybe some can just come help my raid at least….. like dang come on. Couldn’t do shadow mewtwo, same with shadow art..guess I’ll pack up and move to a big city right? That’s the solution or at least the only one I can think of. Since driving 1hr away but having an on the call job plus a family well that makes it a little hard to go an hr away without causing trouble in paradise…..

Back when remote raiding wasn't even a thing, legit players in my community almost always relied upon spoofers to take down raids. They help legit players get their daily gym coins. They're always at our beck and call whenever we need them for urgent trades and stuff. There are problem makers who keep attacking our gyms once in a while. But overall in my experience spoofers have only helped to enhance the gameplay for everyone.

    • @guillermosandoval2036
      @guillermosandoval2036 ปีที่แล้ว

Well, I feel that’s talking from your experience but let me settle the score here. My experience is hell with spoofers, even when trying to use them for raids I’ve lost premium pases while I’m in place taking risks, gas and many other stuff, they would just get out of the lobby, make a new one where I’m not in it and even said to me “sorry, the comunity spoke in a chat for spoofers to make a new raid lobby” and that’s not fair at all… Also I necer get the 50 pokecoins because they have an agreement with areas, like saying a specific county is only blue and the other is only yellow, I took down 2 gyms in a gas station and 5 minutes later they struck down both gyms, I only get 1 coin after spending 15 minutes getting the gym, so I indeed do not like spoofers in my country, if they helped sure, but that’s not the case and not only that, but once one offered me a trade of a regional I wanted and he insisted he would only give it if I gave up a shiny which isn’t nice considering they even have shiny radars, I disagreed and never talked to him again. I feel in person players have the disadvantage and shadow raids are imposible to solo or really hard to duo with people that don’t have at least one team maxed out.

Thanks fkr covering this. I know in the past that the OG TH-camrs used to talk about spoofing, but it got so old because Niantic would never deal with it effectively.
I still see the same exact spoofer clan in my group after 6yrs and it's just insane.

I watched a live on tiktok of someone spoofing during axew community day. They were getting excellent curveball throws no matter where they hit the Pokémon and it immediately excited the encounter when the ball hit without them doing the berry button hold trick. It also showed them shiny in the overworld.

Since the nerf, my commitment to the game has drastically dropped to a point that I don't even bother getting my daily spin or catch 😢

Like. The entire game is meant to be played when you go out. Y’all are cringe af cuz y’all want to sit at home on your fat lazy asses and do nothing and be given everything. Remote raids go against the fundamental nature of the game.

Accessibility being ignored will continue to reward and encourage spoofing. As a disabled person in a rural area its quite a problem playing. I play legitimately but honestly its very tempting given how much they are forcing the experience they want and not what the community says they want.

Pokemon go needs a mode where you don't necessarily need to go out and walk because you can't be out there walking all day every day. Maybe a feature where you can virtually walk a certain distance from where your gps is positioned. having to be constantly moving really hurts the game's potential. If they would make it some kind of a hybrid I bet more people would pick it up.

Good stuff as always Count J. The way I look at it is modding games has been around since the dawn of gaming and this is not any different. Niantic should just have approved ones like other companies that work with game modders do. That way they have some way of keep things in order.

A great example of that is with the Doom series. Mods and fan creations for Classic Doom have been around close to 30 years.

I'm a rural player here. There are two gyms and about seven stops in my town. I am the only player who plays here, so I can't do any raids unless they are solo-able. The nearest town from me with other players is over a 30 min drive. Niantic needs to find solutions for rural players instead of ignoring us.

You absolutely can't blame people! They've nerfed amazing qol changes from the pandemic into the ground!. Remote raids and online communities shattered and destroyed by niantic! Shadow raids excluding rural players locking them to local raids is very hurtful. All bonuses taken away incense nerfed into the ground spawn rates terrible. So yeah I don't blame anyone spoofing! The game has become unplayable and inaccessible thanks to all the nerfs it's all on Niantic!

I just learned about spoofing and i wish i had it years ago. it's been 3 years since ive played pokemon go because i live in a rural area. theres literally NOTHING around. the closet pokestop for me is about 2 miles away and theres not a gym in sight

Niantic does not take any other gps AR game serious other than Ingress. Any other game will be plagued with endless amounts of spoofers. But not ingress because of the way it is designed where balance needs to be a priority or else the game dies

  • @Trippy_Hippy89

Niantic needs to make a system where legit players can pay a fee each season to have access to fly, where they can teleport around the world ( base it off real flight times, so people have to wait), and then they need a bike system ( fee each season ) so you can ride around and catch. This could solve the issue they currently have. Yeah, people will spoof but the casual ones will pay that fee so they know their account is safe. This would bring the game back to life for people who can't get out, are in unsafe or rural areas, and for people who just want to experience the game in different countries. I would think it would even increase event ticket sales.

Late comment but I gotta say, mentioning gameplay incentives is the key. Spoofers are never going to back away from spoofing as is, and banning them isn’t going to change that, nor will it eradicate that community as a whole

Bro my pokemon from my gyms are getting knocked out seconds apparat. And it's super annoying going out again to reclaim the gyms, so I'd get my 50 coins a day, for them to be knocked out again as soon as I get home, and it's all by the same player, each time.
    How can I report them?

I dont spoof, but it would be tempting as the Exclisve reginals are impossible to get unless niantic gives them to us in an event.. Not all of us can afford to travel the world just to play pokemon.
