Blue on the other hand seemed more like a very new player with a fresh account, who still had a few 100 points in rating to fall before hitting their proper rank. Pure and simple outclassed here
I legit had my first ranked game in AOE2 ever, after playing SP for 10 years. It was Arena too, randomly got choosed as cumans. Didnt know what to do, tried to remember what t90 said, yet my enemy (english) came with crossbows and a castle drop plus monks. I tried making knights and the such but still got steamrolled in the same way as the video.
As a low elo player I hate ban arena because it gives your opponent a free ride into the Castle age. That being said, hideout if my favorite map because fuedal aggression can actually pay off against palisade walls.

Not gonna lie but by campaign standards, red is at the skill level of someone who beat all of the campaigns, meanwhile blue is someone who can't even beat all the age of conqueror's campaign.

Hey man, I've watch your content for a long time and it has helped me improve. However, it's getting a bit monotonous later covering both extremes of the spectrum (low Elo and tournaments). Would you mind considering throwing a bone to the 1000-1500 ELOs? I watched a coaching 1300 video of yours some time ago and it was great. Thanks for the videos!
I would love this. Mid-level play is good enough to watch competitive play. But bad enough to see them try kooky strategies that might pay off due to inexperience or ability.
Honestly the next game I played after that T90 Bohemian Arena video came out, I played against a guy doing that exact strat. But luckily I was going for Turks fast imp, I wasn't sure it would work but the Janissaries shredded the wagons.

I like to play Huns because no houses needed but cannot do tree clearing with siege weapons, also I tend tomake multiple forges and spam get all the upgrades because I never took the time to learn what each one does.
I like to research everything too, it gives you better percentage of research and technology tab points. Of course I try not to research Coinage and Heated shot on Arena and Arabia, but still I understand why he did that.

There is a difference between 600 elo and 600 elo players. Some learn tutorials and watch build order vids. Clearly in this case some tutorials has not been learned.
Rams. Mangos don’t do enough damage and can be converted from range with redemption. Monks have to be immediately next to rams to convert. Rams, light cav, and skirms counter wagons, monks, and xbows/ hand cannons.
No, there isn't any. But, players who own it on Steam or Xbox Game Pass can play with each other. If one of your friends doesn't own the game, see if they can get the $1 for 3 months deal for Game Pass, and then download the game that way.
i wonder if they would ever make a unit that's weak as hell and decently resource heavy in mass but can move through woodlines, slowly granted but still, would be interesting how you would use and what bonuses/weaknesses it would have
I'd design them with a weakness to cav, decent survival against infantry, and no explicit problems against archers (since their slow speed in wood would make them vulnerable to such already). Given that the premier strategy would be moving into woodlines and popping in and out to avoid melee units (especially if they were unable to fight inside the trees, which I would definitely say is a good idea), archers and towers/ castles would be the best defense, along with onagers (slow speed= great onager target). Give them bonus damage v eco buildings (mills, mining camps, docks, lumber camps) and siege (to give them a secondary purpose on a strategic level) and decent attack, low speed in wood and average infantry speed outside it, give them low melee/pierce armor, and make them cost some gold but mostly wood or food.
That seems to be a feature in AoE IV. It showed units lying in wait under a tree line and ambushing some enemy units passing by. I could see giving some melee unit the ability to cut through trees like onagers and ballista elephants, the latter of which being the only castle age unit capable of doing so. It’d be kinda cool if throwing axemen had the ability to chop through trees haha!
@@jefffinkbonner9551 The problem with that is that historically throwing axes are quite distinct from woodcutting axes- you can use one in place of the other, but it's going to do a barely- sufficient job at best.
Four on each dear is optimal not three. And Mangonels/onagers are a good counter you just need to have a lot and back them up with range units. And dont make fun of people that use the blacksmith and build more than one unit. Games with only crossbows and knights are sooo boring. You shouldnt encourage that. And why are you arguing "on a high level this and that" Most people that play this game are NOT on a "high" level. Just for your information.
I have a friend that attacks the wall/gate immediately. His argument is that the attack sounds will stress the opponent out, giving a competitive edge
At low elo, considering people take Arena do feel safe.... might be a good strategy. If you run away fast enough

Red is a player like myself, someone who kind of knows what to do but is simply not great at the game.
