Best part about camping in the snow is the beer is always cold! Cheers guys great video. Nice sleds too there bud. looking forward to your next adventure, keep on camping!
Inspiring, man. Makes me excited to get out and camp in my own slice of the Northern backcountry (Gogama region). Looking forward to more videos from you guys.
Love that region, not too far a drive south for me considering. That's pretty close to where we were on this one (west of the watershed). We've been opening up lost routes in the Sakatawi over the last few years (have a video on deck form last summer). Lot's to explore there!
@@ExploreTheBackcountry I'm down in Onaping Falls area, actually. Nice stuff around here, but driving past Cartier and up towards Gogama / Sultan Industrial is amazing backcountry. I haven't had enough opportunity to explore yet, I'm still very new to the area, but your video of the Tatachikapika definitely makes that a route to explore. Same with the Sakatawi and a few other areas. It kind of boggles the mind the available places close by that no one ever explores, preferring Temagami or Algonquin.
@@ashenoracle yeah, you're in a good spot to explore! There's a ton of great route options off 144. Have at least 2 more vids from last year of routes in the area to put up, so maybe more ideas for you too! Very few people compared to the Algonquin-Temagami area etc. It's some of my favourite scenery too. The Tata is a great spring run! Good intro to intermediate whitewater. Don't attempt in July onward or you'll be doing a lot more walking. The fall flush is sometimes a good option though.
@@ExploreTheBackcountry it's incredible beauty. Looking forward to those videos, wondering if there's any overlap in some of the "less used" routes I'm hoping to check out and clean up this year. I'm hoping to do the Tata in early June to avoid needing a dry suit. Going to be cautious and careful, solo whitewater is something I'm learning!
That was the really neat part of the trip for me. Setting up in the dark and spread out through the forest, we couldn't really see what each other was doing. So it was neat to see everyone's unique setup in the morning an compare notes on what we liked and didn't like.
Thanks Kevin! For sure, shelter from the wind was our priority. It switched directions 3 times so we made sure we were far enough in the woods to avoid it. As picturesque as camping by the ice is, the windchill down by the lake was just nasty!
I know it's a good Canadian camping video when I get the urge to crack a good beer! Cheers. Great camera work especially considering the challenges of filming with a group on a short trip.
Haha, and refreshingly cold too! I was actually surprised I had enough footage to work with here. There wasn't much of a story when I was filming, but turns out there was enough to make something out of it!
As u we’re coming in at the end of ur trip ur first man in red plaid shirt had a milk crate on his sled, but as u we’re coming off the lake it was no longer there, what happened to it ?????
We found it stashed by the shore on our way in. We assumed a local trapper had been using it as it was by an old boat cache and traps. We just used it as a seat for the weekend and returned it on the way out.
Thanks man! Not sure on this one, but I've fished the lakes around it, mainly pike. I had planned to fish this or Stony a few weeks prior but that never ended up happening. There's walleye a half days paddle downstream off the Opeepeesway/Rice lake system.
You jerks, I hate you.❤ do you realize how lucky you are? You don’t have one buddy to be crazy and wild with you, you have 2. I live in the Texas desert but the New Mexico forest is my go to. I love winter camping and survival shIt. I used to have an uncle who showed me the love for sleeping out in the open no matter the weather. I could not pay one person to go with me, it’s always me and my 2 dogs. Cherish what you have, it’s a epic friendship
I'll sometimes mess around with the thumbnail. Can be tricky to nail something that's asking for engagement with the footage you have. The swap seemed to make a +1.2% difference in CTR tho.
This was great Brad really enjoyed this!
Thanks buddy!! Looking forward to your big winter trek vid
Love the shots of the snow coming down!
Feels really magical trekking though big flakes like that too!
Amazing winter land. Thanks for the armchair view
No prob! You can stay warm this way too!

Go that right! There's probably another 6 weeks of winter/snow left, plenty of time for more outings before the canoe becomes the star! Cheers!
That was informative, inspiring and a pleasure to watch. Thanks a lot Brad!
Thanks a bunch David, glad you enjoyed!
Great stuff!!!
Looks like a fun over night trip boys. Keep the adventures coming, we look forward to many many more!
Amazing footage. That wind was pretty insane. Looks like good time had by all😘
Thanks brad and gang, nice outing
Thanks Jim!

awesome trip! thanks for sharing it
Thanks Hans!
It did look windy, but when you get a bit of sun everything is just fine!
The sun is such a welcome sight to behold in winter! Really goes a long way in warming you up.
I envy your pulk friendly trails.
Plethora around here. Snow or terrain a limiting factor for you?
@@ExploreTheBackcountry Terrain. Windy rocky mountain trails don't work well
@@wisenber ah! That will do it. Scenery is no doubt amazing though!
@@ExploreTheBackcountry No shortage of scenery, but you do need bigger snowshoes with the pack weight.
Great video..loved the Tumblehome toque!
Thanks to Jason for keeping my head warm!
Liked the different tarp pitching methods, looked effective

Nice vid, makes me want to go camping, looks like you had a great spot, sheltered from the wind.

@Maxim Budnick MAX...tell Xander to get busy. We need a vid from him as well... or both of you together again. lol
Those boys were just out on a longggg winter trip. We're pumped to see the footy!
Brad, I’ve been a long time subscriber and I say this from a place of love…lose the moustache! Lol, great vid as always!
Hahaha, you'll have to fight my wife on that one. It was actually her coaxing me to keep it as I was shaving my winter beard last year. Thanks!
Was wondering what camera gear you used looked good

How did you get R7 insulation out of one SoLite Zrest pad?
The Exped downmat on top is an R7. So roughly a combination R value of 9.

That's better.

Thumbnails can be easily overlooked. I just wanted to air my opinion. Cheers!
No doubt the beer is cold 😊
Great for the first night! It's a beer slushy after a night at those temps!
@JasonIrwinTumblehome Touque
Jason's the man! Tossed us this hat on a TH-camr meetup camping trip last winter and it's been one of my go to toques!
