    I just did this to my virago! I'm building out a cafe racer from an 82 xv750! I'm super excited to get it running again

    how do i know without taking the cover off if my 83 virago model has the right hole required to do this?

    • @CafeRacerGarage
      @CafeRacerGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Chances are it has the hole, only the early 81 models didn’t

    Good video. I would like to do this upgrade to my dads bike but it gets expensive ordering small bits here and there all over the globe.

  • @secondchancegarage
    @secondchancegarage ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Good job on that starter upgrade. We have a Virago 750 sitting in our shop. The customer is trying to decide what direction he wants to go with it, bobber or cafe. But we had the same 'tin can full of rocks' sound. We flipped the chewed up gear and that will be fine for now until he decides.

  • @stevewhite9349
    @stevewhite9349 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great Video, do you have any footage on the modified wiring for the second solenoid? I think you use the start solenoid by the battery to trigger the second solenoid (gen2), but it would be useful to see this.

  • @franknativi

    Did you also have to change the cover too? It looks totally different at the end having the little door for the fork lift mechanism.

  • @dbk81

    Definitely some things to hate about the virago line, 1. Starter system 2. charging system 3. Hitachi carbs have sworn at my fair share of these bikes 😆

    Great update video on a real pain in the butt issue only thing you forgot to say is what year and model is the outer cover off as thats got the solenoid section built in .. .its not something you can just bolt on as a modification.
    Can't wait for the new walk round on the new tooling .. thanks as always Dan for a Sunday brekkie vid

    Is your spare engineer XV 1000? Or is it the original XV 750 where you are replacing specific components?

  • @chrisradford6796

    I had a XV750SE but it was not a "Virago" that name appeared when it became a twin shock didn't it?.

    Im working on xv 920 and i want to see if I can get this mod going on my bike. Can you share the wiring diagram for the solenoid. Did you remove the OEM starter?

    • @CafeRacerGarage
      @CafeRacerGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don’t have a diagram unfortunately but I’ve heard some guys do it a few different ways, I kept my original starter solenoid and run the wires to it and also beefed up the earth cable. Hopefully that helps mate

    The cover is virtually im possible to find unless you buy a complete bike you should make a cast of the cover and mass produce some , could you 3d scan it !

      Perhaps if I could hire an editor/ videographer I could get more videos out in the future

    My dad has one of these bikes in his garage, i think it has 1000 miles on it.... unfortunatly it was stored in a building with chlorine and salt since it was new and every single component that can be rusted is rusted.

    • @CafeRacerGarage
      @CafeRacerGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh bugger, yes a lot of bikes get a hard life unfortunately, Plenty get to re-live a new life after some TLC and a few modifications to make them cool again.
