As you said "Realising the truth long before the characters in the story" is completely incorrect for The Usual Suspects. Verbal getting his lighter back is literally 2 or 3 minutes before the credits roll. Picking up on this "Clue" spares you maybe 20 seconds of waiting for the plot twist reveal.

Chris Carlin It was a methaphorical symbol, not a clue. It brings nothing to a viewers mind and has nothing to do with the plot. But it's a nice detail when you already know the whole story, plus are smart enough to know some sockets are sometimes called 'female end' (and it rather comes to mind only in a context of electrical and electronic equipment).

James Spencer Ah, I'm not too sure about that. I thought it was pretty well done, and Nolan left plenty of clues for the audience. For one, Borden always seems to be surrounded by some mysterious dude named Fallon, who happens to never talk, and resembles Borden if you look closely. Secondly, from quite early on in the movie, you see the mood swings that Borden is prone to, especially with regards to his affection for his wife (or lack thereof), which was another clue. Plus, Michael Caine's narration specifically discusses paying close attention and blah blah blah.

However where they messed up was one of the first scenes, where a ghost seemingly opens every cabinet in the kitchen, and it's not only noticeable by the kid but his mother as well.

In Inception, in the elevator scene where Leonardo DiCaprio shows Ellen Page his memories, he says something like "In my dreams I'm still with her". Throughout the film you can see a wedding ring on Leo's left hand only in the dream scenes, which resembles that they are together, and no ring at all in the real life scenes. You can also see Leo putting his left hand on the chair in the final scene of the movie, clearly being able to see whether there's a ring or not, which explains if that final scene was a dream or reality.

I saw Shutter Island's twist coming because they advertised that the film had a twist ending. When you go into the film having been told that there's a twist ending, you start looking for any clue that might expose it before it arrives.
I didn't go into The Sixth Sense expecting a twist ending (perhaps maybe I should have, but it was one of the first M. Night films I ever watched, so I didn't know he was into doing that at the time)

Byron MacGreggor Both Shutter Island and Sixth Sense I figured out right away. I actually assumed Willis was dead after the shooting because in the trailer the kid says "I see dead people. They don't know they're dead." So when they 'revealed' that he was dead I was momentarily confused - I thought we were supposed to know that already.

My favorite movie clues that I didn't catch the first time through was in "A Beautiful Mind" when its believed that his best friend was real. It becomes more apparent as it goes into the movie, like when his best friend's niece runs through the flock of pigeons and they don't fly off. There are several other hints that his friend isn't real before that as well. Although I'm usually more of a fan of fantasy and action movies, the screenplay and story of "A Beautiful Mind" makes it my favorite movie by far.

Remus88Romulus The last movie fails horribly when it comes to common sense. Why not just nuke the damn city when they had the chance...which was their life long goal. Instead they had to hold the city hostage and inevitably reveal the league of shadows to the world, which supposedly takes down major civilizations all the time and tries to keep things a secret. The scars/symbols make sense though, it could be as simple as he liked getting them to he used them to inspire fear in his underlings. Or they were a secret language amongst his folken.

For The Dark Knight Rises, there's a bigger give away, if you pay enough attention. When you follow the story with the prison at the bottom of the well, think about two things the man says.
-Once, the prisoners attacked Bane, and his mask holds the pain at bay.
-The child who escaped the prison.
Bruce Wayne assumes that the child was Bane, but think about it. If he was the child, the prisoners wouldn't have been able to attack him and cause the problems with his face, so if Bruce thought about it a bit more, he might have been able to figure it out.

For The Usual Suspects the best one that everyone misses is that at the end after the detective throws verbal to the ground in the room the camera is focused on the detective as he is yelling at Verbal "You did see who killed Kent!" And Verbal days off camera "I did" "I did" "I did kill Kent" but you are so focused on the "I did" remark and the anger in the face of the detective that everyone misses it. So the big miss there is that Verbal actually confesses in the end knowing the detective would miss him saying it. His final trick.

    Disagree with two of these.
I don't agree that the Usual Suspects one was really a "clue". That comes at the some time where you're being bombarded flashbacks which help Chaz's character realise the truth. It not a clue, it's part of the reveal! You might as well say the line "No, Luke I am your father." was a clue that Vader is Luke's father.
Also the Reservoir Dogs one it bs too. Yes, being a cop might be the reason he is the one who taddles on Pink, but it's not a clue. We weren't supposed to look back on that and realise he is the rat. If anything the "He's convinced me line" works the other way. I see that as being brave enough to go against the group consensus, which isn;t what you would do if you were trying to fit in. If you were putting on an act, the easiest thing to do would be to stay quiet and do what the others do.

Scott Hix I think people often forget that good twists will encapsulate the whole movie, giving it new (more streamlined) meaning. This is why the twists in '6th sense', and 'unbreakable' are so amazing - they reframe the whole thing, giving the movie new meaning on the second viewing. IMO it even goes for some video games (like Bioshock Infinite).
This is unlike most modern jumping-on-the-plot-twist-bandwagon-twists (I'm looking at you, Chris Nolan). People can say what the will about M. Night. anno 2015; no one have been able to pull off plot twists like he did.

+Nils Rungholm Jensen sort of like the twist in the end of Shawshank, everything ,makes sense in the end, while before the movie is just random clips of people in prison some of it connecting in non-important ways.

Book Of Eli, Goes to cross a large, completely collapsed-in-the-middle bridge and doesn't walk over it, listen carefully and he kicks a rock and hears it fall, which is how he knows there's nothing there.

I didn't figure it out because I simply didn't care much for the movie and I wasn't paying much attention.

It's just ashamed that Nolan wasn't a real Batman fan. He did him injustice by not making Bruce notice the triangle on her back. He is the worlds Greatest Detective and has an eidetic memory. Nolan polluted the memory of Batman and raped his character. Having said that, he was still better then Ben Affleck's Batman.

    • @fatmann4206
      @fatmann4206 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Rubencitos I do like Bale as Batman, I just think that Nolan ruined the memory of him by ending it the way he did. Also a few things I disagree with that Bale did, that I can live with, but overall it was the story that Nolan muffed up, like making Batman only have a little over a year of being Batman, then he is totally wiped out. Give me a break, Batman is supposed to be the works finest athlete too, not some guy who can't take 18 months of working out hard.
