I'm really sorry that your husband is experiencing a job loss ❤️ just purchased some budget spreadsheets so hope that helps! Good luck to him on the job hunt!
Cobra is retroactive for 60 days so you can hold off signing up for it until you know if you need it. I did this when my husband was in between jobs and we had a small gap in coverage. I was pregnant and it was cheaper for me to just pay cash than to pay cobras premium. If I had an emergency I could have signed up for cobra paid the premium and been covered, but I did not need to.
With regards to health insurance: while it’s important to have health insurance of course, I also like to have another type of health “insurance,” which is being prepared with a medicine cabinet full of remedies that I can use to treat our family (including babies) at home. We are stocked with things like conventional OTC meds but also other things like essential oils, homeopathic remedies, manuka honey, colloidal silver, vitamins and minerals, a nebulizer, blood pressure cuff and stethoscope, oxygen monitor, wound care items, elderberry syrup, etc. It’s SO important to have these things on hand for situations like this with job loss and possibly not having quick access to a doc, but also just because of the uncertainty of the world right now in general AND so we don’t have to run to the doctor for every little thing and can feel empowered to take care of ourselves at home when possible. 😊
Can your husband get a temporary job doing Uber, Lyft, food delivery? Restaurants are desperate for employees right now if he’s willing to do that. If I were him, I would do whatever it takes to bring in a little money -two or three thousand extra a month would be super helpful in this circumstance. He should get temporary work until he can find a job in his usual career line of work. Most of those jobs can be done in the evening so he still has time to work on his job applications and interview during the day.
could impact on eligibility for or reduce unemployment, though, depending on how much you make and have made, if you lost your job midway or later in the year.
When we spoke with an insurance agent, we learned that we are not eligible because you qualify with income over the whole year. Since my husband had his income for 10 months of the year in addition to my income, we did not qualify. And wouldn't for next year as we're hoping that he has a job then. But we would qualify off my annual income alone.
@@TheBudgetingWife oh wow. In Oklahoma it’s based off of the previous 4 weeks income and then you just report any income changes as they happen and they reevaluate. I think it might be worth it to apply later if he doesn’t have employment after a few months. Worst they can do is deny the application.

LOVE this idea! I am in pharmacy billing for a hospital system so I try not to ever go to the hospital because I see the numbers on a daily basis. I need to add a blood pressure cuff, oxygen monitor, and stethoscope to my medicine cabinet!

Yes! This is what we're planning to do. :) Reassuring to know if we need to go to the hospital with little kids, we can enroll.

Did you check out Medishare and those Christian medical sharing options? What about the healthcare market place?
You may also qualify for Medicaid for your kids while he’s unemployed. Might be worth checking into.

I would push back on this and apply anyway honestly because most states will make special considerations if you’ve lost a job.
