Zoomers really have the widest swing on how much we experienced what the Millenials grew up with. Depending on parents, older siblings, school, and internet access. You can have a zoomer born 2002 not have any idea what a VHS or a Walkman even is. Then have someone who not only experienced the same things as millenials, but also just super knowledgeable on how culture was before we were born, and the first few years after. I have 5 siblings born in the 90s, I haven't met any 22 year old in person who knows or experienced as much as I did. My whole house was a 90s household through and through.
Same! I was born in ‘98 but I have 2 siblings born in ‘85 and ‘88. My last boyfriend was my age but the oldest of his siblings, and some of the references I made that he just didn’t get blew my mind. It’s crazy how there can be so much inter-generational overlap in some households and absolutely none in others.
Yeah i agree. I was born in '00 and i experienced vhs and toys from my millenial cousins. I also had (and still have) an original ps1 that i started playing when i was 6.
i was born in 2004 and my two older siblings were born in ‘89 and ‘92 and we still have a vcr and dvd player in the family house with at least a dozen crates of movies. even then my parents are still old school so we’re really an 80s household hoarding “vintage” appliances

My primary school installed smartboards in every classroom when I was in the 5th or 6th grade. They worked as intended for like a year, and then the gimmicks and gadgets would stop working, there would be connectivity issues, and the markers disappeared one by one. By the time 7th grade rolled around, they were essentially just fancy, overpriced projector screens that took up permanent space on the blackboards - usually right in the middle, so that any teacher who wanted to write anything up front had to deal with two smaller squares for space (sometimes just one if the blackboard was already small). I did get to experience the overhead projectors with the clear projector sheets during my first two years of school though. I remember finding them fascinating. A happy memory was when we'd been given the task of writing a Halloween-themed story in 2nd grade, and my teacher ended up scanning and printing my silly handwritten story onto those clear sheets to show it and read it aloud to the rest of the class :)

it's so crazy being a genz but born and raised in a third world country, because tecnology would take a while to be available or accessible here, so i sometimes relate more to millenials than genz americans tbh. for example, even though i was born in 2002, my first phone was a nokia just like the one Ian was describing, and i only got my first smartphone in like, 2013/2014. also growing up no kid/teen had their own laptop, it was usually the family computer (and even then, for a long time in my childhood there were only like two households with computers in my street) so even in highscool (and i graduatedin 2018) there was no such thing as using a laptop or even a tablet in class, if we had to use a computer we had to go to the school's computer lab (i went to a private school so we had one, but public schools didnt) or go to a lanhouse wich is a place that you could pay based on the time you would spend to use a computer there. oh and even on my expensive private school we only had one classroom with a smart board, and it felt so futuristic lol, teachers would only bring us to that classroom like once a year, and to this day they use over the head projectors still (even in college, nowdays mine uses TVs instead of smartboards) so crazy to compare these experiences (and fun too!)

One of my most vivid memories from childhood was watching the episode of Beetleborgs where the two bullys get turned into vampires, crazy to see a Beetleborgs mention in 2024
I was also born in 99 and my childhood was mostly pc, due to my moms work we always had a pc at home and internet pretty early. Also my dad used to play starcraft and world of warcraft before we (my brothers and i), were born, so a tech friendly, game friendly family. And most of that childhood was just playing emulators of consoles, we had a thing called mame32 and later NEO-GEO, eventually it was mostly N64 emulator. Honestly, it was a pretty neat childhood, some of my most precious memories are playing bomberman with my older brother, or playing mario party minigames.
This must be my favorite Lunchtime with Smosh episode 💖 I don't know, it was relaxing going back in time as a millenial (Math Blaster was my thing!!), it also felt like Trevor was comfortable sharing his experiences and joking with Ian and Anthony. Loved it!

Its funny because im only like 3 years younger than ian and anthony but i remember some different stuff. Disney channel having things like famous jett jackson, flash forward, pretty much all the stuff on zoog at the end of the day was just incredible. I also remember the stuff that trevor did when he was really young. It was right before I aged out of this stuff.
This made me think of so many things. Who else had Bible Man? VeggieTales of course. I also had so many educational games like Putt Putt Travels Through Time and so many others I can't remember the name of.
51:20 This is exactly right and the perfect way to explain differences in generations. Even going back to the earliest days of written language humans have been doing jokes and pranks just in their own way. People have literally always been like this, it’s our methods that have evolved.
18:52 BeetleBorgs was legit. Absolutely loved that show. Re-watched the first episode recently and it was insane. The real top dog, though, was Mystic Knights of Tir na Nog
Hey dude, salute your shorts, Clarissa explains it all, my brother and me... dude, nickelodeon had sitcom style content for forever. "All that" was our snl.
@ThisIsPodcastSpencer since Disney bought ABC, I would gather it is quite possible that it is a Disney property at this point. But nickelodeon was one of the first ones to experiment with that format. The old mickey Mouse Club did have live action shows, but that is a separate venture to the Disney channel, and it wasn't competing with nickelodeon since the second mickey Mouse Club came to an end.
Bro for childhood shows I'm gen z and watched scooby doo, Barney, Dora, Diego, power rangers, sesame street, teenage mutant ninja turtles, spongebob, rugg rats, powerpuff girls, cat dog, and just so much disney, cartoon network and nickelodeon shows along with networks like that. There were so many shows to watch lol. Also PBS had Martha the talking dog and wildcats or something where it was two twin zoo keeper guys cartoon style but then turned into the real people behind it and you would learn so much about animals.
I'm in that age group born between the Mythical guys (1977/1978) and the Smosh founders (1987). I'm a few weeks younger than Garrett Palm (1979/1980). I'll tell you that the age differences are really interesting. I'm thinking of things from my youth like Atari, Commodore 64, Apple2E, Bulletin Board Systems (BBS) like Usenet, but also so much Sesame Street and Mister Roger's Neighborhood (WAAAY better in the 80s than the 90s), Double Dare and American Gladiators. MS-DOS and the dot matrix! Learning computer technology as a youth in the 80s seems very different from where it was when you guys came on not even a decade later.

8:50 they should totally make a smosh themed custom worms map (and by that i mean just make a collage of funny pictures of Ian and anthony)
This is their best episode so far! I love their talks about their childhood stuff!
Trevor of the smosh and mythical channels
This made me think of so many things. Who else had Bible Man? VeggieTales of course.
I also had so many educational games like Putt Putt Travels Through Time and so many others I can't remember the name of.
God, I grew up on Bibleman and Veggietales! Bibleman and Spider-Man were my first superheroes.
T9 was the shit. I could type without looking at my phone in one hand. Best shit for texting with your phone hidden in a hoodie pocket.
It was soooo easy, especially because the 5 key had that little dot on it so you could just feel where you were on the keypad
51:20
This is exactly right and the perfect way to explain differences in generations. Even going back to the earliest days of written language humans have been doing jokes and pranks just in their own way. People have literally always been like this, it’s our methods that have evolved.
42:05 Don't forget the ole classic, Pain Olympics
Ian and Anthony need to binge some Secret Galaxy. Dan walks us through so much nostalgia from our childhood.
"stop bringing up bullets" lmao
18:52 BeetleBorgs was legit. Absolutely loved that show. Re-watched the first episode recently and it was insane. The real top dog, though, was Mystic Knights of Tir na Nog
YES
Petition to SmoshGames to get Ian to play Worms with Trevor.
I still have a beetleborgs vhs. Also mystic knights was dope back then.
Anthony immediately zeroing in on the most metal sounding olympic game lol
that smosh crew beanie is dooooope!!! mad respect for smosh giving their crew exclusive merch
Ian being attracted to Mavis Beacon is honestly on par 🤣 powerful woman
Smosh has been eerily prophetic enough and this timeline is cursed enough, that a Ian Hecox vs. Mr. Beast election is actually plausible.
Gentlemen play the Bible Game?!?
Brroooo, galaxy brain shit!!!
Hey dude, salute your shorts, Clarissa explains it all, my brother and me... dude, nickelodeon had sitcom style content for forever. "All that" was our snl.
All of this were incredible!! TGIF was the jam too!!
I feel like Kid Anthony would be terrified of Cube (1998).
As an older gen z who grew up in a private Christian school, I now know why I find Trevor so funny
I lost a tamagatchi in the bathroom thank you for taking care of it anthony
This episode represents nostalgia at its finest (and literally 😊)
Bro for childhood shows I'm gen z and watched scooby doo, Barney, Dora, Diego, power rangers, sesame street, teenage mutant ninja turtles, spongebob, rugg rats, powerpuff girls, cat dog, and just so much disney, cartoon network and nickelodeon shows along with networks like that. There were so many shows to watch lol. Also PBS had Martha the talking dog and wildcats or something where it was two twin zoo keeper guys cartoon style but then turned into the real people behind it and you would learn so much about animals.
Zoboomafoo
Disney channel is still on air. They still put out new “original” shows
Yep, they just relasing things jointly on Disney+. They're doing it now with the Wizards reboot
I was about to comment the same thing. I was just watching the Disney Channel this morning.
Was looking for this I thought she was doing a bit
@@partpanda13She probably just read that it was ending on other countries and then assumed it ended in the US too
