Yes exactly!!! I am far too sentimental to get rid of things, which is why I strive for timeless-and also filling my home with the things I/we love. It’s a curation of sorts that spans a lifetime 🤍 So happy you get it too!!!
I can't thank you enough for this video. I have been SO tired of the endless decorating TH-cam videos where they all seem to decorate with the same paint colors and the same products they all bought at Hobby Lobby or Target. Where is the ingenuity or innovation? Your video resonated with me in a big way. I just loved those libraries and your advice to consider bringing back the photographs of our travels, the pics that tell the stories of our lives. When I saw your pics of the indoor shutters, I realized I had a gorgeous cherry louvered-style door sitting out in the garage and I couldn't figure out where to use it or what to do with it. After seeing those pics I've decided to paint it a deep, saturated blue and make a door out of it for our master bath. Thank you for the inspiration and most of all, for your relatable and drop dead beautiful rooms and content!
Ohmygosh that sounds gorgeous! Such a romantic element to add to your master bath 💙 Aww I’m sorry happy you’re here and this video got your creative juices flowing! I hope to bring you more! Also if you feel like sharing the door, I’d love to see you before/after-and if you like, share it in the channel. I’m collecting these to make a compilation of home photos and project from the subscribers. I’ve included my email in the video description. No pressure but sounds lovely! 🤗
As someone who follows way too many in this interior design space and have their IG spammed with decor ads, this hits on so many new areas I haven't thought of or even totally abandoned the idea of. Instant subscribe, what a gem of a channel
Wow! Thank you! I’m literally standing on the sidewalk in the UES talking out loud. I did a wow out loud! Haha. I’m so pleased that it brought you some inspiration 🤍
I hope that with this library "revival" it means that people are actually reading again instead of having their faces glued to technology. My home is a new build so I'm really trying to infuse pieces with history to give the home some depth. My husband made a very rustic bench that we kept outside for years, which I now brought inside. And you do look so upper east side!
Hahaha thanks babe! I'm working that UES look! The bench sounds awesome. I wish Jerry would make me something like that. He's too busy chopping firewood all day lol. Trying to get him into making things out of it! I digress...Yes--absolutely--read more books! When I suggest a home library I'm 100% referring to a space filled with books that are read, reread, shared and referenced ideally for a lifetime.
Breath of fresh air on home decor as a whole and creating a space to feel individual and conversational instead of look at all the expensive or trendy stuff I have.
Instant subscribe! Many years ago, I got rid of my book shelves and family photos thinking it was too cluttered but recently, I felt like my history was missing in my home. Thank you so much for reminding me to treasure those in our home.
as an artist I couldn't agree more about the art that speaks to your heart and thank you for saying that! Original art doesn't have to be expensive and even buying original art prints are better than buying mainstream/trendy "art". I also agree on all the other points, one of the first things I look for when I visit someone for the first time is the library: if they have one and the books in it :D New follower from Italy!
Hahah yes I love looking through people’s books. It’s such a treat 🤍 And it’s my pleasure to point out the importance of purchasing art that speaks to our soul. I 100% believe people should own original or prints of artist’s work. It’s not just for the wealthy and it helps to support artists who give so much of their inner world to the outer world. Thank you for being here!!
Oh good! I made a small apartment video too. Definitely check that one out-hope it helps! Also I’m working on a small bedroom video. A lot of experience with that here in New York City!
Exactly! I work for a real estate developer and we use model homes. They're beautiful BUT they have no soul---because no one lives there. Now why would anyone want to live like that?! Hahah
Thank you for this video. I am in the middle of a several year remodel/redecorate and I've been watching several designers and they tend to decorate other people's homes in a non personal way.
TOTALLY. I think this is the nature of design videos by default but it doesn't have to be the standard. I try to keep in mind that most people watching my videos are working on their home without a decorator, and so I try my best to make sure you can get some solid pointers and inspiration to do it yourself--keeping in mind that you are what makes your home unique and special!
I just found your channel today, Christina and I’m so happy that I did! You’re style and design ideas are exactly what I’ve been looking for! Everything and everyone else I’ve come across have been so generic in their designs. Can we say boring? A house will never feel like a home if we’re copying “trendy, generic” looks that are the same as everyone else’s. Where’s the authenticity in that? You, sweet, funny girl are as authentic and inspiring as they come. Keep the glasses and the hair! You are perfectly adorable the way you are. Thanks for these wonderful ideas - most of them are so doable and transformational and will make a house feel like a very loved special home.
Ohhhhhh you just filled me with warm fuzzies! Thank you from the bottom of my heart Georgina 🤗 I so appreciate your kind message-and yes, you can certainly say boring! Because it’s true!
This was really helpful to a couple of dilemmas I’ve recently had with decorating my home. One, I love the idea of shelves for my pictures instead of a gallery wall! So much easier to use and change around! Two, I just feel a general reassurance that I’m not the only one wanting to be happy with my books, art, music, sentimental items and cat 😊 without trying to decide if it’s too granny chic or not enough dark academia. This was a good reminder that it doesn’t have to fit inside a label or follow a set of rules to be charming.
No not at all-doesn’t have to fit in anyone’s box but your own. I can tell you based on all the feedback, that many of us feel this way-including me! That’s why I’m here to support you and inspire you along the way 😘 Oh and Lynne you have a cat! I love cats 🖤 I had a black kitty named Harriet.
Just happened to stumble on this video. I'm in the process of resetting my home. Your pieces of advice are so point on what kind of home I desire at this stage in my life. You have inspired me. Thank you. ❤❤❤
Glad it was helpful and you are so welcome. I hope to bring you more inspiration as I continue to move forward. I'm in the same boat as you in my life. It's all about creating a timeless home that grows with us. I want to look at our sofa and remember when friends or loved ones visited. So lovely having you here Meng.
I really loved all of these suggestions! I haven't heard any of these on any of my other channels I watch, most are so trend based, so this was especially refreshing!☺️ I always feel so inspired after watching your videos! ✨️
Awwww thank you Madeline! You're so sweet! I really think on what I want to share with you and how I can support you in creating a space that feels like home. Most importantly, I want you too always feel inspired and free to express yourself in your home. That is you special place on this big planet after all!
Thank you so much! I strive to be an individual in my thinking and my art-so I hope this always translates in my videos. Thank you for the lovely comment. You made my morning!
I’ve always been attracted to the classic look. Why would I wanna keep changing things year after year. Some people like to do that but I don’t like wasting money. Investing in a classic piece never goes out of style.
I don't like wasting money either! I'm the same with with clothing. Purchase classic pieces and take care of them, and they'll last a long time. I also love to have things reupholstered or refinished if I want to change out the feeling.
I absolutely love your videos. It is so refreshing to hear an interior designer talk about making a home unique. I live in the UK and we have been making changes/renovating our farmhouse for over 20 years. I have so many animal and plant motifs that I would describe my style as a mix of “Disneyland” and “His Dark Materials”. But somehow it works and we love it. Keep up the good work.
And that’s what it all about! Thank you for being here and sharing your experience. Some designers have a signature style for sure and people will hire them to recreate that but also I feel the service of good interior design & decor is above all customizing it to the client. Designers have an opportunity to create something new and present fresh new ideas this way-and that so much fun! 🤍
Okay so you've just reminded me that I want to watch "His Dark Materials!" Your farmhouse sounds fascinating and I love the idea that it's something you've been working on over the years. Really it's always going to be--as we evolve so will our home. PS You said the three magic words, "we love it!"
I’ve been in my 1930 Spanish for over 21 years. The door separating the kitchen from the service porch (laundry room) was missing when I moved in. I’ve always put a curtain there. In part because the water heater is in the service porch and visible from the kitchen. It also helps divide the two spaces in a light-handed way that adds softness and color. I love when people add curtains in old kitchens with no doors under the sink to hide pipes or supplies. The curtain “trend” is old as dirt; it’s an effective, attractive, classic solution to various design dilemmas.
I agree, this is something people have been doing for a long time. I don't see it as a trend, though maybe more people are incorporating them into their home, but it doesn't have to be a trend and can remain timeless.
Just found your chanel and I am SO excited to see more of your videos! ✨👏🏻 Yes to everything you said here and I couldn't agree more with the overall message of your content!! Maybe that's the next trend... "anti-trend"!!! 😂 I'm here for all things personal, collected, layered.
I think so! Honestly we’ve been living with this sort of showroom mentality for so long (or at least trying to be this way) , that I think we’re all just wanting a real home feeling. It’s different for each one of us but it’s part of us and reflective of who we are. Thanks for being here Ania 😘 I hope to bring you more inspiration 🤍
Yes yes yes, working on my library now, and adding photography. I was already working on these! might to a window wall and curtains on a door, all these are layers I love and haven’t seen anywhere else. Hit that subscribe before you were done 🎉 I
I love your ideas on framing! You are just precious. I subscribed to your channel and can't wait to view your others. We do have a pretty awesome home library housing my husband's vast collection of history books !? I cleverly arranged them by color and he nearly had a heart attack. ;) Thank you for your inspiration. Keep it coming, please!
Hahahaha that’s so cute! I mean I hope he’s okay but just the visual of him freaking out. That sounds like something I would do and my husband would react the same 😂 PS lucky you on the home library! When we renovate I’ll finally have a library too! Thank you for being here Cindy 😘
I absolutely love content about home design and decor, so I am subscribed to several other wonderful TH-cam channels. However, I can sincerely say that I have not heard much of the wonderful advice that you have just shared here from anyone else yet. I love that you don't obsess over trends and are more concerned with adding individuality and beauty. I'm a now a fan and a new subscriber. 😊
Oh thank you Jessie! I’m happy you’re here and hope to continue to provide more unique perspectives. I am a lover of beauty-kind that is unique to each of us and so naturally that should translate into our homes 🤍
Just happened upon your channel, couldn’t agree more with your choices ! I have the wall to ceiling library, I buy old art work which “speaks” to me, placed on slim long shelves creating a gallery wall. I would absolutely love a window wall ❤. Thank you. Keep up the good work !
What a great video! So glad to find someone different. I like to watch decorating videos and tire of all the sameness of the rooms and information given. It is refreshing to find your. channel. Thank you.
Yes 🤍 me too. I didn’t grow up with a lot of family photos in our home but really enjoyed the warmth from my friend’s homes. Even today when visiting friends and family, I gravitate to their books and their photos. Even if I’ve seen the photos before haha I just love them.
You are very different from the others giving design advice and ideas. You focus more on the importance of each person individually expressing themselves with what moves and resonates with them on a deeper level. That’s always been my motivation. The idea about the drapes over a door is fantastic. I have not heard that one yet. Our front doors are drafty so I’ll be incorporating that for sure. Thank you! Also, the framing of recipes, or even birth certificates of a parent or grandparents would be sweet. I have immigration papers from my relatives coming from Italy to Ellis island. I may have to add them to my wall. The shutters too. Such good advice. We stay in a villa in Tuscany whenever we go and the shutters are arched dark wooden authentic beauties. Love your channel! ❤
Okay first of all the dark arched shutters at the villa sound amazing! I’m so happy you got some good stuff from the video. I think self expression is very important in our homes 🤗 I absolutely love the idea of framing the immigration papers. My husband has these from his parents, who are also from Italy. It would be a sweet gift 🤍 Thank you for that idea-also thank you for being here and sharing!!
Ok. This is the channel I didn't know I needed! Such a fresh perspective! I'm gaining so much knowledge and confidence to create a home that's specific to who I am. Thank you. ❤
You’re one of my favorite interior channels! Love this take on “trends” that isn’t about things that are easily purchased brand new, but developed internally over a period of time from your own values and experiences
Thank you that's very kind 🤍 I am so happy that I can inspire you! You're right, it's not about things easily purchased. It's about thought and consideration. It's about having things that live with you and grow with you! Thank you for being here!
Thank you so much!! You know I've just been over here in New York dreaming of starting this channel for about a year ☺️ I hope to keep the inspiration coming!
At the moment, we have a floor to ceiling double bookshelf in our guest room. This way they can checkout our books in the comfort of their guest room. I tell my guests they are welcome to read any that they fancy while staying with us. My art on the walls means something to me and definitely shows my personality and interests. We have those picture shelves in our bedroom with personal family photos in varied frames on the shelves. It’s personal photos of family members so we keep them in our room where we can be comforted seeing our family when we can’t be around them.
Yes art that means something. I love that you share your books with your guests. That is truly so special-and floor to ceiling double book shelves 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍 dreams are made of this!!! Haha lovely.
Sorry I'm late in viewing this segment, but of all the ideas I took on board, the one which has really helped me is the interior glass wall. I'd forgotten that while living in the UK I saw so many homes with this feature, & it's the perfect answer to breaking up a long open space without losing light! Thank you Christina. An aside: I've always been surrounded with books & bookshelves, but recently, while turning a spare room into a library, I discovered the terms Dark & Light Academia. Yes, I'm not up on trends. Unknowingly, that's been my decorating style for the past 50 years! I do tend to use different colours etc as the mood strikes, but as an artist, this is how I'm at my most comfortable, surrounded with objects which mean something & are beautiful to me. Thank you for your videos.
I’m right there with you babe. I’m such a sentimental person and an artist as well. My favorite things are meaningful, hold memories and inspire me. I call our home style “Artist Retreat” and suppose it’s a bit dark academia, a bit modern, a bit rustic and very much art studio!! I think as naturally creative people, we must also create our space-funny thing with Dark Academia is that this is a “style” that many of my artistic friends gravitate toward. I think a designer came along and simply coined the phrase that’s all-no need to be up to the trend names in my book! It’s the artists and the creatives, the visual poets that create the trends-unknowingly lol-then others who spot them go on to define them 🤍🤍🤍 BTW I love the interior glass wall. It’s charming and immediately adds visual interest to a room. It’s like, “What is that space behind the glass??? I want to go there!” Inspiring curiosity at home is a necessity!! Thank you for you lovely comment 🤗
You have really inspired me today. The idea of injecting more personality from my history is a great idea. It’s like you have given me permission to do exactly what I wanted to do but felt it was too personal. Love you videos have already subscribed
I'm so happy that I was able to inspire you Vicki 🤍 Home should be personal--it's you're place, your space and should feel like you! Thank you for being here--I hope to inspire you more 🤍
You’re awesome and I totally love your vibe!! I enjoyed all you had to say. For someone who has been paralyzed by design choices, I’m going with some of your suggestions. Picture ledges and displaying books, yay!
Yeah!!! As you do those I really believe that more ideas will come to you. Sending you lots of love and inspiration 🤍 You’ve picked two of my favorite!!!!
i am grateful to hear someone speak about what means the most. I am most interested in being me, and what makes my place feel at home, and share a ton about family and what is cherished the most. timeless is different for everyone. there is no right or wrong!
Hi Miss Kitty--you are certainly correct. In our homes there really is no wrong way to decorate as long is it makes those living in it happy. I too am most interested in what makes a person unique and showing that in the home. It's much more special and honors those living there.
First time I've seen your channel. Thanks for a contra-trend video. Creating character and charm are much better things to focus on. I'm with you on art and books. Definitely important to me. And I have a window wall! I have a tri-level home that is about forty years old. The window wall is between the living room and the stairwell up to the living/dining/kitchen area. There is also a smaller window wall in the entryway at the top of those stairs. This creates the needed demarcation between areas while providing light and a sense of openness. It's a game changer. Looking forward to seeing more from you.
I loved this video! I would love to see tips for builder grade/80s-90s builds. I want to inject more classic elements into my home but running into issues like how to add trim to room entrance when one side of the doorway is a wall lol.
This is just my 2nd or 3rd video of yours that I have watched now and I a, already obsessed. You so get me. I love and agree with all of your suggestions. I love a gallery wall without the commitment . I actually purchased two Pottery Barn Temple Street display bookcases. I add art and books and gold frames with photos that are important to me and just swap out colors and themes every season to add variety.
LORRAIN thank you! I am so happy I can inspire you!!! I really like those bookcases and they're such a great purchase. They are so versatile AND you're curating displays for the season---I love it!
I looooved this video and am so happy I found your channel. I especially like your self-deprecating manner-not taking yourself too seriously. I also liked the whole approach of not creating a "cookie cutter" design in your home, but making it a personal space that reflects your personal story. For example, I like the whole home library idea, where you actually show the books you love in all their color with the dust jackets on (as a reader, it annoys me to see books either chosen for their color, or turned backwards so they all look the neutral). I like the infusion of family photos or other special personal items that can be framed to give them a special honor. I really love the idea of the art shelves as a replacement of the gallery wall because it allows for easy, frequent changes. I am now so excited to incorporate your ideas into my home. Thanks for inspiration that speaks to my heart!
I think I found my person on TH-cam is grounded makes common sense and yeah we think the same on the curtains near the door and the indoor shutters and photography. Thank you for what you’re doing
Such an inspiring video! Thank you for bringing this topic..it makes the idea of designing your space very personal and achievable without blindly following trends..
It’s my pleasure! Trends are like eye candy and can fun to inappropriate in small bites, if you feel the pull to. However, for a lasting and rewarding experience I always feel that home should reflect the individual. Thank you for being here, luv 🤍
Great video! My constant rearranging of bookcase/library space in my tiny New England house makes me miss my skinny shelf lined hall on the Upper West Side so much.📚😊
Awww hey former UWS-er! I think it’s a sign to bring it back and have a little reminder of your time in Manhattan 🌇 I’m also a constant rearranger!! Thank you for being here Michael and contributing 🤍
My advice is don't wait until you have the perfect room or spot to do something, I didn't have a room to make a library but I did have a large wall in my dining entry and I lined it with bookcases and made that a library
What a refreshing approach! Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, this was an excellent watch, I look forward to seeing more! I appreciate you 🙏
Hi again, I love your interior philosophy;) your home is your canvas. It will change and evolve as you and your family change over time. Creating a warm, inviting and peaceful home is worth all the effort. So true. Thank you for your inspiration! I hope your new home will transform and become a dream come true:) great place to be in;)
Thank you Birdy! This is just so sweet and I appreciate your words. I think a lot--and I think a lot about home. I also think I might be driving my husband crazy with all the home thought and ramblings from me. It's so nice to have a creative outlet for them and also such an incredible thing to know that I can inspire you! Appreciate you being here! (BTW, my most favorite grandmother's nickname was Birdy. She was my best friend.)
I feel like a lot of 2024 interior design trends videos are all the same- the most expensive designers promoting the most impractical trends that will guarantee a remodel and continued use of their services again and again. But this video felt much more honest and much more inspiring and timeless, thank you for that!
Yes of course. I almost get frustrated with some of the zany whimsical designs I see because I wonder, what will happen to the furniture and finishes in five years when it all looks totally out of style?
LOVE your video. I'm sitting in our home library rn. My husband's mother's desk from 1930, his album collection, globes, reel to reel tape decks. Very comfortable chairs and art work of our children ❤. It doesn't look like anyone else's room. Also have his grandmother s 1940's rotary wall phone
Oh wow! This sounds absolutely lovely. I'm getting the visual and I have warm fuzzies just thinking about all the beautiful memories living with you in this room.
I am also obsessed with linen right now. I don’t know why. I purchased some linen shirts and light sweaters to wear to Spain and Portugal in October last year and now I want to incorporate more at home. I love having organic materials and to me wrinkles in linen just looks homey.
I LOVE the wrinkles in linen and in my personal opinion, they're what make linen, linen. We have a lot in our home and find that it's just so classic, so naturally beautiful and truly timeless. Sounds like a beautiful holiday and incorporating linen into your home will be a sweet reminder of your trip.
First time listening and I knew shortly in that I would subscribe! Your content is so refreshingly useful and very much my vibe - I can’t wait to learn more from you. Oh and such a great delivery as well :) Thank you.
Was it the hair?? Hahah but seriously, thank you for the kind words. I worked hard on the video and wanted it to be packed with inspiration. I’m so glad you liked it and found it refreshing 🤍
Thank you so much for this video. We needed to know it’s ok to love your own looks in your home. You live there every thing there should be to your taste.
Yes, I’m totally vibing with you! Not sure what led me to this video. I mean I love interiors, but was unwinding after a sleepy girl cocktail about to shut off my TV when you popped up in my recommendations. But whatever it was, I'm so glad I found you and this channel! Finding beauty in the everyday and creating that almost spiritual home atmosphere has been my focus for the past two years. I've been lucky enough to experience that magic a few times in my life, and it's truly something special. Even though I should be asleep by now, I've already have four of your videos lined up after this one! Your tips really resonated with me, especially with the changes I'm making at home right now. So grateful for you and this channel! Wishing you all the success and fun as you continue to inspire others!
Wow thank you!!! I'm so happy you're here and that I can inspire you luv! Nothing happens by accident (I wish I could insert a heart here but I'm on a keyboard
Christina I’m currently packing up our curated custom rebuilt century home to move to a custom built Tuscan inspired/ restoration hardware home built in 2017. I love the previous owners interior design style and numerous tile choices in flooring, bathrooms and even some stone and brick feature walls, throughout the home along with some timber ceiling accents. Ironically moving to such a beautiful turn key home is presenting me with what feels like a challenge as I’m hesitant to change things up in fear of losing the perfectly presented magazine worthy home we just purchased. Like you I have let my heart guide my current homes design and style by decorating with what I love and inspired by European architecture, furniture and charm. Your video has just ignited my inherent passion and creativity and given me the confidence to follow my heart once again in our future home. I’m a big fan of gallery walls, family photos, rustic ephemera and really appreciate your practical design solution using picture frame art shelves and changing it up from time to time. Thanks for this fabulous content! ❤❤❤
Yes!!! All these can you mention are easy to incorporate and can be tailored to fit your home’s interior design. It sounds dreamy for sure and yet I know you’ll find ways to make it uniquely yours. PS I am so happy I could inspire you!! That’s a great feeling for me! This is the reward, to make these videos and know it has inspired you 🤍
Christina, your video is one of the best I have seen. You have confirmed several if not most of the best beliefs and ideals . I have been in the design business for over 26 years. I must say that you hit the nail on the head. Bravo! I will be subscribing. Thank you.
Thank you Deborah 🥰 I am super flattered that I could inspire you. Such kind words 🤍 I’m happy you’re here and look forward to seeing your contributions to our group 😘
Great video! You look very classy with your silk blouse and blazer. I noticed them right away. I was already doing some of these things so that was interesting. Library, check. Drapes over doors ,check. The picture shelves is a wonderful idea I will definitely try. My daughter lives in Hawaii and has put some beautiful photos she has taken on her walls. Your essence. I moved from a 3000 Sq ft farmhouse to an 800 Sq ft apartment recently. While I was traveling my son's family needed to stay at my new home. They had never seen it. The 6 year old granddaughter told her mom that it was so comforting to see I hadn't changed. I wasn't there, but my essence was in the furniture, pictures, bookcases, throws because they reflect me. Looking forward to another video. Looking forward
That is so beautiful and I love that a 6 year old felt your essence in the home! Thank you for the compliment on my outfit too 😘 I think you just tapped into something there, that we are in those things-that others feel and know us through them.
Hi from the UK 🇬🇧….. came across your channel today and I really like your content. You would do so well here, European interior design is in your veins …..great vlog!
I felt validated watching this video. I'm not artistic but when tasked with decorating a condo out of state (so much to do), I framed several enlarged fall photographs I had taken of a PA lake and put them up. The photo colors closely matched the room decor, and it is very pleasing.
So good! Love your classic approach to interior design. Timeless and personal. Thank you for sharing and I appreciate you being so down to earth in your video.
I have lots of framed photographs of landscapes, people, buildings, plants in my garden, etc. it’s meaningful because I took the photos on vacation, in my garden, or just captured a moment. These photos tell stories and greatly enhance my decor. Thank you for offering other great ideas.
Beautiful. I can just see it. What a lovely way to share your memories and be consistently reminded of your experiences. Also--you're welcome! I hope to bring more inspiration to you!
Thank you so much Cindi. It’s so much better to invest in quality that will grow with you. I’m sentimental and I feel home should be that special place filled with memories of our lives. Not a showroom for the latest trends.
@@shirlenerossi-kennedy9728 hi babe! Yes absolutely! That would be so fun. Here’s the link to my website with details 🤍 www.christinadistefanostudio.com/e-design
I just found your channel a couple days ago and I really enjoyed this video. You motivate me to rethink our home and to give it more character. I love your suggestion of using the personal photos we have to use as art in my home. We have traveled a lot through the years and I have many photos I can use to bring back happy memories. I loved all your suggestions to curate a warm and inviting home. Looking forward to many more videos. Thank you from Tennessee.
Wonderful I’m so glad! It’s going to look so good showcasing your photos, all those memories and adventures. It shows use just how much we’ve lived! I’m exited for you Barbara. Thank you for being here 🤍
This is a beautifully executed video; your ideas offer possibilities for creating wonderful, personalized spaces in our homes on any budget. I have just subscribed to your channel, and look forward to future videos. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.
Hi Christina, I really enjoy all your videos. I so appreciate hearing about creating a home that is unique to me. Seems like all the home decor videos are all the same, with all the same furniture and decor. I have a very traditional home with beautiful furniture that of course now would be considered dated. We spent a lot of money on this furniture only ten years ago. Should I replace everything because it’s not in style anymore? Also, I really love traditional stuff, I find myself drawn to it. I do enjoy all the new decor too but it’s not going to work for my very traditional home. I do continue to decorate and add maybe some updated things like lighting and so on, but I have what I have. Too expensive to replace. Thanks for the encouragement on making your own home yours uniquely, otherwise I would continue to be frustrated that I can’t keep up with the trends! Have a great day! Luv, Sheryl 😊☕️
Hi Sheryl! If you love traditional then stick with it. This is your home and in all the places in the world, this is the one that should reflect what you love. I don't think anyone should replace all their furniture unless they want to. I myself like to buy things that will stick around, hopefully for the rest of my life. The way I see it, is that we can always have then refinished in a new color stain and/or reupholster soft pieces if we want to. Even slipcovers are fun and have their own charm--but again, this is personal preference. I got this mentality from my dad who not only makes and reupholsters furniture, but restores pieces too. Also, decorating with accessories in fresh colors: like pillows, drapes, blankets, candles, those pieces that are relatively inexpensive are great ways to refresh. It's also fun to change these out based on seasons to match our moods. Yes, it truly is frustrating trying to keep up with the trends and now more than ever, they are changing quickly. That's why it's ways good to stay true to yourself rather than defaulting to a trend as a quick fix It takes time to evaluate purchases but it's time well spent so that we always love what we put into our home, like you! PS Love the smiley face and cup of coffee!! XOCD
Loved the shutter idea! Beautiful shutters that look like little doors! How I wish I would have put something like those instead of plantation shutters. I can’t change them now after I spent over $15,000. I wish I hadn’t bought them.
Plantation shutters are lovely too Violet! I like the clean lines and the way the light filters through. I’m sure they’re a very good quality as well 🤍
Loving your videos. I watch and follow a lot of designers. I realized lately that I had done some things that I thought I loved but so did everyone else it seemed. I have been swapping those items out! I’m doing more vintage shopping to add in interesting pieces. I love a comfy, classic (not overly traditional) home. I want people to get who I am not where I shop.
“I want people to get who I am and not where I shop.” Amazing comment Julie-that pretty much sums it all up! In college I worked in a vintage shop and caught the bug then. It’s so much fun to find a treasure, something that no one else has 🤍 PS I like your style. I love a comfy, classic home-but not necessarily traditional.
Finally! Someone who understands that some of us love the same things our whole lives and don’t need a trend to tell us what we love.
Right!? Not knocking anyone but I am getting tired of those HL and HG videos as well. Wanted something with actual creativity. Loved this one!!
Yes yes. Over it all, actually!
@@kerrijohnson6055 Thank you! Thank you! Me too!
Thank you for not speaking about Trends but instead about the Home Experience ❤
It's my pleasure!!!! Thank you for being here Sharlene xoxocd
Thanks Leslie! 😘 that’s what it’s all about!
Instant subscribe! Many years ago, I got rid of my book shelves and family photos thinking it was too cluttered but recently, I felt like my history was missing in my home. Thank you so much for reminding me to treasure those in our home.
Wonderful 🥰 yes bring out your history Eileen. So happy you’re here.
I clicked on this video so quick bc I don’t do trends!!!!! Classic styling decor only! Thank you! God bless, John 3:16
Hahaha yeah! I'm happy you are here! With classic you can never go wrong!
as an artist I couldn't agree more about the art that speaks to your heart and thank you for saying that! Original art doesn't have to be expensive and even buying original art prints are better than buying mainstream/trendy "art". I also agree on all the other points, one of the first things I look for when I visit someone for the first time is the library: if they have one and the books in it :D
New follower from Italy!
Hands down this is the best interior design video I've seen.
Thank you so much!!!! Welcome to the channel. I’m happy you’re here 🤗
I just love your hair like that!!💜💜💜😊 its just perfect. Love these ideas and I'm gonna try to incorporate them into mylittle apt here in Texas.
Oh good! I made a small apartment video too. Definitely check that one out-hope it helps! Also I’m working on a small bedroom video. A lot of experience with that here in New York City!
I agree 💯. So many homes I walk into look instagramable but could be anyone's home, like they are trying to sell it. No personal injection in it.
Exactly! I work for a real estate developer and we use model homes. They're beautiful BUT they have no soul---because no one lives there. Now why would anyone want to live like that?! Hahah
Love this - timeless and personal!! Loved the input about the curtains/drapes/shutters. I've watched you a few times, always enjoy!
Awesome! Thank you so much Kim! XOXO
8:25: Challenge accepted! I commit to have at least one of my favorite photos printed by July 2024!
Whoooooo love it! It's time 😘
Just happened to stumble on this video.
I love a good library. You had some great original ideas I haven't heard a million times before.
Thank you so much! I strive to be an individual in my thinking and my art-so I hope this always translates in my videos. Thank you for the lovely comment. You made my morning!
Thank you. Wonderful video.
You’re very welcome Linda! Thank you for watching 🤍
You got me at 'skip interior design trends'! Just discovered your channel and instant subscribe!!
Awesome!!!! So glad you’re here. We’re going to have lots of fun 🤍
I just found your site and it's wonderful. Our home should reflect our visual needs instead of what is trend so thank you so much. Enjoy your day😊
Thank you so much for the kind words 🤍🥰 I am happy you’re here and we connected! Enjoy your day as well 🌞
I absolutely love your videos.
Such unique ideas. Love it!
Thank you Erica! 😘
I'm here for all things personal, collected, layered.
Hit that subscribe before you were done 🎉 I
Wow thank you! Love the layers and they make our home so much more interesting. I want to see your window wall!
So inspiring. Luv the hand written recipes as art. Trying to locate my mom’s old recipes now. Her hand writing ✍️ is very distinctive. Thank you
I’m so glad! Sweet meaningful things we can showcase from our lives. Thanks for being here Dayna 😘
Just happened upon your channel, couldn’t agree more with your choices ! I have the wall to ceiling library, I buy old art work which “speaks” to me, placed on slim long shelves creating a gallery wall. I would absolutely love a window wall ❤. Thank you. Keep up the good work !
Woooooow sounds lovely! All of it! The things my dreams are made of! So very happy you are here Carol 🤍
What a great video! So glad to find someone different. I like to watch decorating videos and tire of all the sameness of the rooms and information given. It is refreshing to find your. channel. Thank you.
THAT is a huge compliment. Thank you Lydia 😘
Great point of view, fresh and original. Especially the European influences
Thank you Linda 🤍
Thanks for appreciating photography and wanting to display it, I have missed seeing those special images.
I think self expression is very important in our homes 🤗
I absolutely love the idea of framing the immigration papers. My husband has these from his parents, who are also from Italy. It would be a sweet gift 🤍 Thank you for that idea-also thank you for being here and sharing!!
Loved this!😊
Glad you liked it!! And thank you for being here!
Ok. This is the channel I didn't know I needed! Such a fresh perspective! I'm gaining so much knowledge and confidence to create a home that's specific to who I am. Thank you. ❤
Yeah! Welcome, luv 🤗 I’m happy you’re here and being inspired 🤍
I love this. I’m tired of the gray boring stuff and I liked how you talked about adding personal touches
You are the secret sauce babe! You make it interesting 😘
Great video!!
Thank you Susan 🤗
Yes totally vibing with you! Where have you been?? Love your ideas, fresh and classic, great style too. Happy new subscriber 😊😊
Thank you so much!! You know I've just been over here in New York dreaming of starting this channel for about a year ☺️ I hope to keep the inspiration coming!
Please, more!!! Authentic design!
You got it 😘
At the moment, we have a floor to ceiling double bookshelf in our guest room.
It’s the artists and the creatives, the visual poets that create the trends-unknowingly lol-then others who spot them go on to define them 🤍🤍🤍
BTW I love the interior glass wall. It’s charming and immediately adds visual interest to a room. It’s like, “What is that space behind the glass??? I want to go there!”
Inspiring curiosity at home is a necessity!! Thank you for you lovely comment 🤗
Very refreshing ideas. Thank you very much!
You are so welcome! Thank you for being here!!
Your home sounds amazing! You have window walls! L🤍VE! Thank you for the kind words Melanie!
I loved this video! I would love to see tips for builder grade/80s-90s builds. I want to inject more classic elements into my home but running into issues like how to add trim to room entrance when one side of the doorway is a wall lol.
Great suggestion! I can do that!
I love your style and the tips you gave about interior design. You sound so authentic !
Thank you so much! Hope to bring you ore inspiration!
I was so excited to see your post! Everything you presented is exactly what I have always loved!! Thank you for not discussing 2024 "Trends"
You bet! It’s my pleasure and I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it! Thank you Lisa 🤍
Feeling very inspired. Thanks!
So glad! Thank you for being here! Hope to bring you more inspiration, Nella!
Wonderful!!! I’m so happy you’re inspired by the video 🤗 PS I too am annoyed by books chosen for their color or tuned backwards-that one especially!!
I think I found my person on TH-cam is grounded makes common sense and yeah we think the same on the curtains near the door and the indoor shutters and photography. Thank you for what you’re doing
I’m am flattered!!! Thank you for the very kind words! I hope to continue to inspire you more more ideas 😘
Perfect advise! Limitations inspire creativity for sure 🤍
What a refreshing approach! Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, this was an excellent watch, I look forward to seeing more! I appreciate you 🙏
Thank you Cheyenne! I hope to bring you more inspiration 🤍 AND I appreciate you too!
Finally an interior design channel I can get into. Loved this video.
Awwww thank you Karen! Appreciate you being here 🤍
I feel like a lot of 2024 interior design trends videos are all the same- the most expensive designers promoting the most impractical trends that will guarantee a remodel and continued use of their services again and again. But this video felt much more honest and much more inspiring and timeless, thank you for that!
Yes of course. I almost get frustrated with some of the zany whimsical designs I see because I wonder, what will happen to the furniture and finishes in five years when it all looks totally out of style?
Also I want to thank you for the kind words regarding the video. I hope to inspire you more 🤍
Great tips. Nice video.
Thank you Belinda!
I LOVE the idea of a window wall. I’ve always admired them in pics, but never thought about incorporating them into my home.
Ooooh do it! They are so lovely and unique.
Love linen as well! ❤ Beautiful timeless texture.
You are so welcome! I’m happy you’re here Catherine and hope to inspire you more!
This is the reward, to make these videos and know it has inspired you 🤍
First-time viewer. You do vibe with me!
Framing my mom’s hand written recipe cards!❤❤❤ Will do.
Yes that is so sentimental and sweet. Such a heartfelt reminder of our loved ones.
Fantastic! 👏
Thank you so much 😘 appreciate you being here!!
I love every single one of these. I’m also obsessed with shutters and door curtains. Love your decorating style❤
THANK YOU 😘 I’m happy you’re here and hope to bring you more inspiration!
I have been looking for this message. Totally over trends and trendy "designers."
Thank you Lisa! The message has arrived! I 100% believe in this and hope to inspire you more. Appreciate you being here!! 😘
Christina you are a breathe of fresh air !! Your words just set me free thank you 😊
I’m so glad!!! Thank you Jan 🤗
Wow! Thank you! That's such a compliment :) Perhaps it's the Swiss ancestors on my mom's side haha. Thank you for being here Tracy XOCD
@@ChristinaDiStefanoStudio🇨🇭 Good blood and it’s my pleasure Christina x
@@traceyg6148 🥰Thanks Tracy!
I felt validated watching this video. I'm not artistic but when tasked with decorating a condo out of state (so much to do), I framed several enlarged fall photographs I had taken of a PA lake and put them up. The photo colors closely matched the room decor, and it is very pleasing.
Wonderful! Sounds lovely btw. Was it serendipitous or did you know intuitively just know to do this?
So good! Love your classic approach to interior design. Timeless and personal. Thank you for sharing and I appreciate you being so down to earth in your video.
Thank you Leslie! Thank you in so many ways for your kind words 🥰
Loving your videos and perspective. So refreshing from all the other so called designers that are the “same”.
Thank you Cathy, I strive to go with my gut on subjects and ideas. I hope to bring you more! Thanks for being here 😘
I love timeless not trendy. As you said, European features. Wonderful video
Thank you so much Cindi. It’s so much better to invest in quality that will grow with you. I’m sentimental and I feel home should be that special place filled with memories of our lives. Not a showroom for the latest trends.
@@ChristinaDiStefanoStudio Absolutely, I never do trends, they come and go.
Exactly Cindy ☺️
I stumbled upon your video. I subscribed immediately! Going to binge watch the other videos now. Thank you.

I just found your channel a couple days ago and I really enjoyed this video. You motivate me to rethink our home and to give it more character. I love your suggestion of using the personal photos we have to use as art in my home. We have traveled a lot through the years and I have many photos I can use to bring back happy memories.

I appreciate your perspective! The trends are so over done. I've always adore door drapes.
Yes door drapes!!! So wonderful :) and thank you for being here TeeMcBee! Love that name 🤍
I have a library in my home and it’s my favorite room.
Lucky you! They are magical places. WHEN I have one it will be mine as well!
Hi Christina,
I really enjoy all your videos.
XOCD
Hi, good video. Makes me miss NYC and having conversations with people who have an intelligent cultural and design sense.
Wow thank you so much, Anisky--I am truly flattered. Where did you live in the city?
I have almost all of these things in my home. I have the song my grandmother wrote for me , in her handwriting, hanging in my bedroom.
Oh wow that’s such a beautiful memory and keepsake 🤍
LOVE the windows walls.
Sooooooop good!!! 🤍🤍🤍
