Great review. This is how it’s done. Really concise and informative without all the verbose garbage that others use. You’ve shown the features that are important and useful in a way that is easy to see and understand. Thank you for this.
I just got this lathe as a "slightly used" model. It is fantastic. Thanks for the review. I picked up a couple clues that were not mentioned in the instructions.
I bought this 1 1/2 Hp. lathe and have not regretted my purchase. It works flawlessly, and WAY outperforms my 'ol mastercraft tube lathe. I have turned medium projects, but mostly turn big bowls testing it's 16" capacity. I highly recommend this lathe.
Tom, since Jet bought Powermatic, are they going to change the quality or the built of the powermatic. i think thats why jet made the leg design like the one you're showing.
Why is the JET1642 EVS not available in Australia I have a smaller JET and want to upgrade , Have been told that JET has withdrawn from the Australian market.
I like my 1642 lathe except..... the VFD failed and I replaced it with a new one and that VFD failed also. JET wants ov er $ 600 for each replacement. Their VFD is only rated for one HP motors- the 1642 has a one and a half HP motor. Therefore a problem !!!.

Mine just arrived today :D Cant wait to try it out, thanks for the explanation of the inverter, what exactly do the knobs do?
@surfflyfish4striper
The Powermatic 3520B is the King in my opinion but it is quite a bit more expensive than the JET 1642.
Tom
Very nice lathe..I have a craftsman lathe that i wish I had never bought.

You have to check with your local woodworking outlets as prices and availability change constantly.
Piękna tokarka , jedyny mankament to krótkie łoże i mały skok gwintu w koniku .
