    I struggled a great deal, but once I got it, it was fairly simply. So when putting it back make sure the relatively long metal piece on the mount is down. Now putting the bulb assembly in you’re not supposed it have it perfectly horizontal in terms of the black plastic tabs. In fact they should be a bit rotated in the counter clock wise direction i.e. to the right when you’re facing the front of the car. Rotate counter clockwise like 30 degrees when inserting in and then rotate clockwise to lock.

    Thank you! I couldn't get the actual headlight out, then I saw you use a screwdriver to pop it out. Also, my car's computer didn't tell me it went out, either! I have a 2012 Jetta SE.

    Thought I'd come back and leave some tips after changing mine:
    Getting the cover off (the kind without a clip) was really hard. Wouldn't turn. We table-saw drilled a slit into a small piece of wood to slip onto the cover. Used it to turn the cover and it came off.
    Watch what he does when he puts the light back in. Just follow his instructions. Rotate it a little clockwise then back the other direction to click in. I was able to look in through the headlight at the front to see how it lines up.
    Sprayed some silicone onto the cover, cleaned it up and put it back on.
    Don't touch the bulb on your new lightbulb.

    Same exact problem. Just got mine from the dealership and I had low beams and parking lights that wouldn’t work. And by the way this car is supposed to have a dash light that tells you if your lights aren’t working and mine didn’t go off either. Thanks for the vid. Very helpful

    About to roll down to the parts store for a set, the left one went out last night and I don't wanna get popped by the man.
    Should be fun doing the driver's side bulb in the parking lot at 25f degrees, good times.

    I have a '13 TDI w/Nav and I frickin' hate changing these bulbs. Y'all are right - the H7's don't last very long. I've had a hard time upgrading to a different bulb because I don't want to replace them after a short time, either. And on the dashlight warning, mine comes on when all the lights are working but never when I actually blow one. It's weird. The light will go off after a restart - usually.
    Anyway, thanks for the visuals on this. No matter how many times I change 'em, nor remember EXACTLY how I took them out, I always end up forgetting.
    Thanks again, dude.

      Question, I was trying to change my bulbs, and the right light is
      missing the black piece used to twist head light out. Don't know how it
      fell off (car is used), but do you know of a way to change the head
      light without the socket?

    • @AndrewRoss
      @AndrewRoss 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bullshitkorner I have, actually, but with this buyback/repair thing going on, I'm not going to do much to it until I decide what to do.
      As far as I can tell, I'll make money selling it back to them.
      We'll see.

      The Jetta headlights are obnoxious. I am trying to figure out hard to fix a drivers side heated seat that is not working. I think the wires under cushion need to be re-soldered. Stinks there aren't many videos out there on that topic.

    Thanks for this. Hoping I can finally get it. I needed the screwdriver trick to get the old bulb out, but now I can’t get the piece back in the car. It’s so hard to find where it fits because you can’t look at it. You just have to feel your way in the right place. Seems like luck to me. And I’m not lucky today at all.

    On mine the previous light bulb changer cross threaded and forced the assembly in. That made it harder for me to get mine out! REALLY pay attention to the orientation maybe even get a mirror and take a picture BEFORE you remove it. Note at what position it is locked in tight and at what position it is at when it can come out. Thank you!

      @@bwj1158 I have a 2014 jetta VW and both of my headlight bulbs went out and the computer is not telling me anything. I replaced one of those lights about 8 months ago and now both lights are out. Took the car to VW dealer; they diagnosed it and said the light bulbs were not working. Nothing else was wrong with the car. I took the car to the dealer thinking it may have an electronic issue, but nothing. Dealer wanted $60 for each bulb replacement = to $120 for both. I SAID HELL NOOOOOOO! Will replace them myself. Done it before and it is really easy. Good luck all.

    I replaced my p/side bulb (low beam) and it twisted out just like your video. So I figured I'd change my d/side bulb as well so they would have a fresh start but the d/side bulb has a wire clip over the socket holding it in instead of it twisting out like the p/side. I bought the car used so is it possible someone in the past replaced the headlight enclosure with a different year?

    drivers side not so much. I checked all the fuses and they are good.
    There is electrical power to seat as the auto recline works. Wiring
    under the seat looks intact as well. A bit at a loss here, and not sure
    where else to go. I need to look more under passenger seat and make
    sure the wires are connected to driver seat? Any advice would be

      just wanted to share that if you are having problems with headlamps burning out (in my case the Driver side head lamp) use this video to help you remove the unit. follow this fourm: www.myturbodiesel.com/wiki/headlight-switch-repair-mk4-vw-or-mk6-vw-jetta/
      What happens or at least happened in my case is that the switch has excess white grease applied by the led display light for the switch. the grease gets hot from the lights and moves back towards the switchboard and harness. It then will create a electrical short between the male and female connectors. on my 2011 vw jetta base model (with 40k on it) it happened to be my pin 30. (they are all labeled and you will see a slight bit of electrical corrosion on the pin in question). I cleaned the pin using a low grit Emory cloth (500+) (i would clean all the pins just to make sure) Avionics cleaner (electrical component cleaner) some cue tips (to apply the cleaner) and a fresh paint brush (to remove the fibers from pins that the cue tips left) 60K on her now and i haven't blown another head light or had blinking tail lights at all. between 30k and 40k thats only (4 months for me) i went though 3 drivers side headlamps alone....

I took the car to the dealer thinking it may have an electronic issue, but nothing. Dealer wanted $60 for each bulb replacement = to $120 for both. I SAID HELL NOOOOOOO! Will replace them myself. Done it before and it is really easy. Good luck all.

    on the diesels the computer will not tell you the bulbs are out until 2014 models. just the diesels the gas models will tell you but diesels will not.

    I'm pretty positive the dealership last pieces to my headlights. they just call out, and one doesn't have the black nob on the back. anyone know how to find that specific piece?

      Mine is missing one too, did you ever have resolution? Can you change without stupid clasp

    • @crystalwilds3761
      @crystalwilds3761 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually found a dealership to just order the parts for me. They ordered the knobs and they were able to order the retainer clips for all 4 lights. Very simple. Mine is a 2011 jetta TDI. I ended up not even using the knobs and just using the retaining clips. They stay in place perfect and i am still able to change bulbs!

    • @This_is_the_Matrix
      @This_is_the_Matrix 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Crystal, the retainer clip is the the actual metal bracket holding the light, these are different from black nob. So if you don't use the black nob, then how do you remove the light from the socket. I simply have the electrical wire going into the light socket. when I remove that, i can't see to remove the actual bulp. There are some metal parts that are under a screw. I am wondering if I unscrew that, if it will allow me to twist the light out of socket with out black clasp. Any thoughts? I would rather not go to dealer to a black clasp I don't need

      yes! if you unscrew the scews just a tad you will be able to slip the metal out and it will allow you to have access to the whole peice. at the point the bulb pulls right out! just remember not to touch the new bulb when puttimg it in ☺

    My wife just got a '16 Jetta. I'm going to install HIDs in it, but F this. I'm taking the grill and assembly out. My hands are too fat and my patience is too thin for this shit.

    Take a flat head screwdriver and a hammer lay the screwdriver flush against the light bulb cover (make sure your tapping it where it says loose)tap 2 to 4 times the cover should come loose. The best way to break that pain in the ass Factory seal

    My old Jetta used to let me know a light was out also but my newer one doesn't which is so fucking stupid, and I just got my from the dealer and within a couple months both lights went out one after another. And you can't see what you're doing cause the light area is too small
