I don’t know why yall don’t out these bad businesses. If you’re going to go thru the point of doing a full review at least tell us who he was so we can avoid them. This is how they continue to get away with this kind of thing. Stop being nice. At the end of the day it’s business!
Yep. Agreed. They won't change if you don't tell the truth.
Because it's insider secrets, if you know all the bad ones, then ya'll gonna order the same stuff from the same people and the value will go down.
@@LezBob that makes absolutely no sense. We as a society go out of our way to do reviews on products across all sectors of commerence. Plants are no different bad sellers are bad sellers and particular for those who buy wholesale. They generally are treated the nicest given they buy in bulk. They should be the first to scream foul
@@Chaos3183 I know it makes no scence. I myslef am looking for info and I always share what I learn. I was disapointed to see how hard it is learning trade secrets. No one will tell you. For example did you know you can promote, stabilize and make more variegation with tissue culture? I did it and had to read countless research papers to finally understand and get the info I needed. I knew it was possible I studied biology at university, yet every was saying oh now, that's not how it works. That's exactly how it works. These plants have layers of different cells, chimeras....any how I wont wake this too long. I just wanted to point out, it's not me who thinks like that but most people who make money don't want to loose their crumbs.

Dude... come on. It's not wrong to expect professionalism especially when you are spending your hard earned money. For this guy to keep asking you to spend money to get what he owes you is terrible but guess what yes you were swindled and helping someone else avoid this would be great. Outing this guy would maybe make a change in the way he does business. Cheating your customers is not good business but it's not going to change if someone doesn't stand up. Your experience was unacceptable and should not be tolerated. I'm sure he cheated someone else that felt as you do and that allows him to cheat the next person without consequences or accountability. @@prettyingreen Excellent! Thanks for the warning!!
I think most of the "missing plants" from so many companies are actually intentional. They just accept it super well that they forgot some plants bla bla bla, and tell you they can send them in a next order that you probably didn't want/need and where you pay shipping and stuff when it's 100% their fault.
Sooo true. It's happened with lots of other vendors too now that I think about it!
You should say which dealer is was. That was a scam.

As a hobbyist I will never buy a plant that I can't see and touch with my own hands
Nah, I have good experiences with a few nurseries. Their plants are healthier than my local nursery's plants tbh. I have never had a plant from TheGreenEscape, Gabriela Plants, Steve's Leaves, ThePlantFarm, Eureka Farms, or WishlistFoliage die on me or have rot. There are some sketch nurseries, so I tend to stick to the ones I never had issues with.
there's so many plants I could just never find locally so I had to import. But I don't flip imports, I propagate and sell what I grow.
Please share the business name so us small fish dont get screwed over :/ losing out on supply like that would financially kill me.. I was tempted to save up to import but that’ll be a hard pass for me

Omg was this exotic greenery.. I’m having deja vu I didn’t want to put their whole name on here.
@@phungm7 Why not? Nobody deserves to be cheated like that.
Why are we protecting bad sellers? Every other industry has reviews but for some reason, on TH-cam, they don't want to say the names.
No way! Thai exotic greenery? I’ve imported from them a bunch of times and they never forget to pack plants but they do make me order more to replace dead ones instead of just refund. I NEVER import during the summer
Actually this is not TEG. Their prices are a lot lower than this. I get monstera albo for 20$
I paid $50 in May for a Monstera Albo from Thai Exotic Greenery. I'm so curious now if this was from them. When I ordered from them in May it was my first time importing plants and 3 of the 5 plants I ordered did have some rot but not too much and I've been able to get them all growing great since then. I will say they wrapped all my plants in paper towels not in plastic like on this video so it makes me think he ordered from a different company.
Sorry to hear about your experience, that's rough. Some people would rather a quick buck today than thousands more in the future. Good customer service would likely make you a repeat customer, and you could recommend them, netting them thousands in sales over time. I just had an order from Thailand get stuck in customs for 11 days. Not a good time, but certainly not the sellers fault. Canada customs is really hit or miss.
I ordered 4 Thai giant euphorbia milii last May. They wrapped the roots in moist paper towels and the entire plant in newspaper. They ship it via Thai Post(Air Mail). Looking at the tracking provided via EBay looks like the packaged left Thailand and headed directly to NY and headed west to its final stop in OR.By the time it arrived( total 17 days) the paper towel had dried out completely. Since no plastic was used in the packagIng there was no possibility of rot occurring. Had seller used moist spagaham moss( some dealers insist on using it-both domestic and foreign for succulents).
A honest dealer would care to hear you out and ask how they can improve their shipping methods.
Sorry to hear that, man. Lots of scammers and unprofessional sellers these days.
People get what they vote for. You want upstanding people who care about their communities, vote conservative.
If you want criminality behind a mask of faux altruism, vote progressive. While the former can & does have rot in it, it's easily dealt with compared to the other side that's almost completely rotten to the core with a few decent individuals (mostly bleeding hearts with no critical thinking or planning skills, but nice people).
Sorry to hear. I believe American sellers are selling these bad overseas plants to recoup their money. When my aurea Monstera arrived (pd. $125) there was root rot. And the older leaves were gone. Basically one good leaf after I trimmed off all the bad roots.
Some do! I always recommend staying clear of the ones that have “import days” and huge restock days. That means they are most likely selling stressed plants or essentially rehabs from overseas. Succulents empire has a good reputation but they are an example of this. I’ve tried buying multiple plants from them but all were basically rehabs.
Ya lots sell fresh imports. But we used to import for mother stock, then sell cuttings with only verified roots. It's just unfair otherwise
Honestly, I would consider sharing his name. Or message him and say that you are frustrated with how things have gone, frustrated with how this feels like a never ending game, and that if he doesn’t make it right, then you will share his name with people. That way he still has a chance to do right. And spell out what you want. Also maybe share an idea of how to package the plants better. Maybe he doesn’t know. (Trying to give the benefit of the doubt). But unfortunately, this person will keep doing this and other people will be out money as well. I’m

Yeah man that sucks. Been there before. You have to find an importer that stands by their business. My importer lives in Florida but nursery is based in Thailand. I agree with you, when say importing is on its way out. Florida will be taking over very soon!
Smart to have ops in Florida, and they can pull from asia! Yes, florida seems to be building more and more steam!
Wow, feels like an abusive relationship. Take me back and I won’t beat you again. For the fourth time.
Sorry brother.
Just wondering, would it safer to tell them to cut off all the root, that way if new roots come up in the over saturated moss, it would be adapted to the moisture level?
That might be!

I might be biased since I don’t sell plants myself but I don’t mind exotic plant import slowing down regarding sustainability.
Out him. He’s gonna keep doing this to people and it’s NOT right. I’m already worried about ordering plants online, so I doubt I’d ever import- especially being a hobbyist who’s new to the community this year. BUT… if I were to get scammed on anything, plants or otherwise, I WILL be disclosing who did it. I couldn’t keep that on my conscience. Now on the other side of the spectrum, if I have an amazing, honest, or even a good customer service experience I WILL be calling the business back to mention how well it was and how happy I am. I written many of reviews and made many phone calls to give praise and thanks. People are worth it.

Wish I had the means to grow plants for you! I'm soooooo sorry! It hurts, I know! 😢😢💜🌱
this I find is more common importing during the warm months, which is why I usually don't. I'm hoping the plants I want from Kartel Daun will still be available in late September. If not, oh well. I'd rather get nothing than lose money on bad plants.
Smart. It's SO hot in asia too right now
The only way to import is via air cargo...its a bit pricier but cheaper in the long run. I’d never import via courier.... 😞
When I first started selling plants I imported about $5000 worth of plants from a very well known company. Every single plant was completely rotted into the stem and had, no joke, 1000s of mature thrips which had eaten some of the plants like I never knew they could. They didn’t refund a single dollar and only sent maybe two replacement plants with a total value of around $100. Never importing again after that, NOT worth it.
Holy shit. That's AWFUL. I'm so sorry that happened to you! Bummer it's so common. Who was the company? This was greenroom_planter on instagram.
Oh dear... they should never use plastic 😥
I import Alocasia's and they spend 10 days in the box and they arrive perfectly 😯
This seller does not seem to be the best ...😅
Ya definitely some incompetence on the seller's shipping methods
Bummer....I seldom export plants but when I do I definitely go in with the mindset I'm going to get taken....to my surprise I've only had a couple bad experiences.... although I refuse to spend more than a few hundo and they always pay the export fees. Then again I'm not a seller, I'm just a crazy collector.
I wana say something: i attempted to get a monstera deliciosa mint 3 times, all of them on Etsy. (Usually i use Ebay but the prices are so uges for this plant)
1) i got scammed. Got a refund.
2) the plant get stuck and never arrive. I got a refund.
3) the seller got out of the poateform, ask me to get a refund and go purchase the same plante on their own webside. Yikes.
I don't sell plants so I'm definitely in a different world, but I did a couple of imports as a hobby grower and was sorely disappointed. Fast forward a few years and the domestic prices (at least for plants of my interest) have come down enough that it's not at all worth importing. Even if it's a bit more to buy domestically, to me, it's worth that in lower stress. I also stopped buying anything on sale platforms that are listed as "fresh import". I'm not about to pay domestic price to go through all that again! If I were you, I would totally ask for my replacements at the show if you are going to IAS. That way, you have a better chance of getting a viable plant.
Out him!

Never imported plants but I have left google reviews for extremely good service and extremely bad service. I would let the community know. We review on almost all platforms so why not here. I understand it's tough starting a war with someone in the industry but you gave him three opportunities to make it right. The original purchase was bad, the second shipment was bad, and the offer for just 50% refund was declined. Thanks for all the info you do give out. Really enjoy your content.
It was Green Room Planter: greenroom_planter on instagram. After the feedback here, it seems right to let the community know what happened and who it was. Thank you for the kind words!!
SMH! Thankfully you didn’t go the “3rd time’s a charm” bit Chris!
Thanks Carol
Im sorry this happened to you !
Thank you so much for this information. I've only tried to import 5 plants. The first four were sent back to the seller by customs and he refused to give me a refund. I was using ebay and they fully refunded my money.
The fifth one was a seller on Etsy that claimed to be selling in the US. When I got the shipping info, it was being imported. The seller begged me not to tell on her and gave me my refund plus the plant. But I know that I should have reported her.
It's tough importing. Best to use platforms that can protect you like you did! It's always risky though
Looks like the seller doesnt have experience in packaging for shipping (via courier) ?
Import Aureas are the worst…I bought several from various domestic sellers that imported them and I’ve never lost $$ooo many plants 😭
They are THE WORST. They rot and blacken sooooo quickly
because shipping take very long to reach us
That sucks bro. Here's to your success in future ventures with more reputable vendors.
Thank you!
Since you imported so many I have a quick question about how it works. I ordered a Burle Marks flame from the Philippines. I got 2 fully rooted, what looked like top cut stems for 25 bucks!!! I'm really worried it's not going to get here alive. I got a 6-8 week timeline. Is this something I should worry about? Or is there something that happens behind the scenes in customs cause that's what I worry about the most, it being stuck there for a month with no sun or water.
$25 wouldn't cover the phytosanitary certificate and two months is the norm for international plant scams; I faced something similar with a £10 variegated rhaphidophora tetrasperma (I know, I was new) that never existed. Look out for the pictures; whether the backgrounds match or if they look like they're ripped from the internet. If the shop is new it's also a warning sign, even if they have lots of sales and good reviews.
@@hemidog1982 Sounds fishy to me. They cost way more than that! And, 6 to 8 weeks in shipping? No way that’s legit.
Ya I would ask for the money back. International shipping and phyto alone is more than $25
After getting that order, why would you still be wanting to create a relationship with him? And we all understand you can save plants, but that's not what we buy so it's frustrating when the seller is just like "yea, put it in water and start all over again." How can he just ship a stem?
This sucks. So sorry this happened
This is outrageous. You didn't deserve this.
It was a bummer :/ Lesson learned
Bro out him out! Smh 😡
It was Green Room Planter: greenroom_planter on instagram
I don't understand why you would choose to go through the pains of importing plants that are readily available in your country or, even worse, plants that you already own! This is just ridiculous, especially since you could even propagate them yourself via TC.
I've only done two imports so far, the first one was from Thailand and four out of five plants got root rot but I could still save them and never once thought of asking for a refund. My second import was from Japan and it went awry, my package took more than 3 weeks to reach me because it got stuck for more than 2 weeks and the customs clearance office for some unkown reason. The seller had even sent me a full refund without me asking before I could get my hands on my parcel! Again, I managed to make all of my plants survive, including a P. ilsemanii which is supposedly a difficult import and a Monstera compacta with its roots wrapped and damp sphagnum moss (no root rot but had lost both of its leaves).
I just view importing as a way to add new plants to my local plant meta while challenging myself as a grower. I think that you should reconsider the reasons behind your importing because this ''plant flipping'' seems like a huge liability and a waste of time and resources (especially for plants that you already own, I just can't wrap my head around this one).
Jeez... What a fiasco... Sorry about that.. I guess lesson learned for good
I don't sell what I import because of this. I sell what I grow and propagate myself.
Well I'm about to import from indonesia... Hope this doesn't happen to us but we chose air freight.
Prices on monstera albo and the like are not good. Anthurium however are very cheap and Scindapsus as well. Hoyas are hit and miss. But Philodendron and Monstera I don't think its worth it
I actually think his "No refund, only replacements" policy is reasonable because he ships overseas and could easily get scammed. He ships bad plants, you should have been done with him much faster after the second bad batch, but his cheap prices lured you into the back and forth text messages to hopefully maintain a business relationship. Sounds like most toxic relationships. Move on.
The seller was deceptive and played unethical games across two transactions. He was also sent photo evidence of the horrible quality of the plants received. Not only is he tarnishing his own reputation by doing this, but in the process, he lost what could have been a long-term customer who could have given him lots of business through word of mouth alone. It's a shame that sellers like this exist. It's not the fault of Pretty in Green for giving him the benefit of the doubt, as he wanted to believe he was an honest seller and would do the right thing.

You need a permit from USDA
I had a very similar experience with Aroid Market. Stay away from them too.
oooooo interesting! I've seen their name a bit recently too
My experience with Aroid Market was excellent. I received an albo and a Florida Ghost. I followed the Kayle Ellen flow chart and Drea's instructions for acclimating imports. No issues with the Ghost and the albo had a small amount of root rot. I treated it and both plants are doing fine. This was my 1st import experience and I was pretty nervous, glad it turned out well.
I would be buying a plane ticket😠
hahahah WORD
Although I'm primarily a plant collector rather than a seller, I regularly import plants from all over the world. This has allowed me to acquire many rare and unique specimens, though my experiences with different sellers have varied. Most sellers I've encountered are decent people trying to make a living, but importing always requires careful judgment. I believe I know the seller you're referring to in this video-I met him at the same show. Since then, I've done at least a dozen imports with him. While I've had generally positive experiences with his plants, some have unfortunately perished. However, he has been fair and replaced them in subsequent shipments or at later shows.
It's important to understand that importing plants carries inherent risks. To mitigate these, it's often necessary to import in volume and be prepared for potential losses.
how long does it shipped? in our experience if it is more than 5 days, its getting risky
It was only 3 days :/
