      Just ordered them on ebay. One seller had two sets; one female qr with 3 males, and also a set of 3 female qr with 3 males. I bought one of each because I got spare couplings beyond the two I needed and plenty of males. The same seller has the other set but I found out they ship from different locations. The 1 female, 3 male comes from amazon distribution and got here quicker, the other 3 and 3 set comes from texas and is taking a little longer and I am still waiting for. www.ebay.com/itm/254395050012

    I've been using Dramm Heavy Duty quick disconnects for my low pressure hose. They're made in the USA and work great. Much better quality than other amazon brands, or even the cheap ones at Lowes. All my high pressure quick disconnects are MTM however. And as much as i like the Dramm, if i had known MTM made them at the time i ordered all my Dramm units, i would have went to MTM just for consistency. But for someone looking at other options, check out the Dramm Heavy Duty. Again, made in the USA.

    Does the socket make the seal with an o-ring, or with the rubber gasket inside the female GHT thread? I have found that QD's that rely on the hose gasket to make the seal against the plug are very finicky to get it tightened just the right amount so that the plug will actually go in but also not leak. Some of the higher end QD's like Garrett Wade couplers have o-rings either inside the socket or on the plug to make the seal, which means they'll still connect and seal regardless of how tight the socket fitting is tightened onto the hose.

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The coupler has an rubber o-ring. The plug uses the hose's o-ring. It's not perfect, but they work.

Ive used both rubber and expandable and the rubber ones end up busting at the ends , expandables get pin hole wounds. I too have just bought the stainless. Understand the stainless is also harder material and will also holds its shape better. Brass is softer and will defom, pit, and develop deformities more easily. Stainless is a steel and is a more durable and a better material. I had to go with brass ends for the hoses because I could not really find stainless barbed replacement ends but WHO CARES if you mix brass and stainless for the two connections next to each other. LOOKS? Get serious, it is a hose for petes safe. Mixing materials is not an issue as far as being dissimilar. It is not like you have issues with electrolysis like in electrical applications. This is a hose. The stainless quick release it also being connected and reconnected causing more abuse, the brass hose end is just fixed and does not get abused hardly at all. If you care that much about looks for your hose having brass and stainless mixed, maybe you are too prissy to even be working with a garden hose, let your servant do it for you; LOL.

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I used to use 3/4" hoses, but they get too heavy. Remember that your line in the wall is likely 1/2", so that is the limit.

  • @LessTalkMoreDelicious

    Is your Continental Rubber hose better than Eley’s Polyurethane hose? (primarily for gardening/landscaping, and sometimes car-washing)
    (yours is priced better though)
    Also, which do you think is a better hose-reel for gardening/landscaping - Eley or Cox?
    Lastly, MTM vs. Eley fittings?
    (Eley fittings seem super expensive)

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I like it much more. The Poly hose tends to kind and is really grabby when winding it up. The Eley reel is much better for that application. I prefer the much less precise Chinese sourced MTM QDs over the Eley. Eley QDs are really pretty, but they are also really heavy.

      Obsessed Garage one more question... the Eley sprayer gun package looks super nice too - simple and very robust looking.

  • @Cmikul25g
    @Cmikul25g 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    These don't look like QD's with the ball stopper's inside. is that something you don't prefer? I have 2 different types...one is the full flow, similar to these, and the other has a ball stopper that doesn't seem to inhibit flow but you can hot swap items without turning the water off....and also without getting sprayed by back pressure.

    • @ariip
      @ariip 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may not stop flow, but having the ball in there and the narrowing of the path because of the components will create some degree of flow loss. The ball would be solid and have to move to the side causing the water to bend around it, rather than a valve where it is actually rotated by you and a larger hole is created on the other axis straight in the waters path. It is easier to just install a ball shutoff valve inline right before the fitting and I get nice brass ones. That way you do not have to go back to the spigot. They are durable and do not walk when you adjust them. You can also use the ball valve as a way to control the flow if you want to adjust it or dial it down for certain applications.

  • @bdeale3314
    @bdeale3314 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I don't know.......if everything else is stainless then I'm definitely on-board. Since everything else is already brass.....kinda seems unnecessary....'though I DO LIKE the additional bearings in the female fitting. As far as putting the SS fittings onto the brass fittings..... it seems like you'd run into the dissimilar metal corrosion issues. I fully appreciate the respect for SS fittings....but to take this to its logical conclusion we'd need to get Kranzle on board and get the Goodyear hoses equipped with SS fittings.
    MUCH RESPECT.

  • @fourtraxer
    @fourtraxer 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is it funny that my OCD doesn't like the change in color from Brass to SS? Sure the SS is better, but I'd rather just toss a grungy brass fitting when it gets there (takes some time) then look at the mismatched connection ends.

    • @ariip
      @ariip 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For two screwed on fittings it is not an issue on a garden hose. Any comments otherwise are unfounded. Many are speaking out based on different applications where contact will have an affect over time. This application is not the same as maybe some of those. People have a habit crossing one situations results over to another situation. They are not looking at the facts completely in every use case. That is an unfortunate failing.

    • @ariip
      @ariip 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      However the quick release fitting can wear out or you may want to change the application or use case. Hoses also come in different diameters so making qr is sizes is more involved, more costly and more complicated. It is easier and more practical to just use a separate threaded replacement end, and screw on a universal hose threading qr. You can move the qr or replace it, without having to redo the end of the hose. You can move them to another hose more easily. Applying a hose end sometimes results in problems taking it off and reattaching particularly if it is a crimp on which means a crimp on qr is not as ideal.
