An incredible track from an incredible era. It was 1999 and I was 21-years old when I first heard this gem on the dancefloor at Gatecrasher, Sheffield. An unforgettable moment that now seems so distant almost 25 years hence. Scored by the Russian Federal Orchestra (because it was far cheaper to do so compared to the London Philharmonic Orchestra), this track significantly raised the bar to a level that previously seemed incomprehensible; a level that in my opinion has never been surpassed. This track exemplifies the creative genius of that brief but dazzling era of euphoric trance in the late 90s, and retains its timeless beauty and appeal to this day. I'm very proud to have been there to witness clubland at its peak with all the incredible unity that came with it.
Could not agree more. I was 22 years old myself in 1999 and I spent most of the 90's and 00's in clubs, after-parties, festivals and bars dancing or listening to some truly incredible music. Even at the time, it was not lost on my friends or myself just how special the scene was that we were experiencing. It was so multifaceted, the amazing music being just a part of it. All of that seems like some sort of magical dream nowadays, that perhaps I imagined. There was no social media in the 90's (and nobody bothered with it that much even in the 00's) so very little of that time is documented for me (in terms of videos or photos etc). Though given some of the things we used to get up to... that is probably a very good thing!
So eloquently said! I too am a retired club kid from the '90s, the scene was my home. What fond memories. It's unfortunate that I will never experience that again...
8 years old on the original SSX. I had spent years on this game. Perfecting every track, measuring every jump, learning every grab combination, unlocking every secret for every character... But then this level pops up. No ramp paint, no track, no races, no competition, no packed snow anywhere. Just a vague downhill direction and a spine tingling soundtrack. I remember shivering the whole ride. It felt like I was there on that mountain, tasting freedom.
SSX was awesome man. My dad would take me skiing on the weekends and I’d play SSX on school days. I remember that was the first game I got for my brand new PS2. I was consumed.
This was the first time that a full orchestra was combined with trance/breaks. I remember hearing it for the first time (I was 26 years old and I'm 52 now) and I knew immediately that I was hearing history being made. It was revolutionary then and today it sounds just as groundbreaking and fresh as it did 25 years ago.
OMG. I have been looking for this song for 23 years THIS year. I first heard trance back in 1999, and lost the cd that had this song on it in 2000 when my cd case was stolen. THANK YOU FOR THIS UPLOAD!! 😭😭😭😁😁😁🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
IMO still the greatest dance song every created. There are so many emotions portrayed in this piece. Happiness, sadness , loss, despair, redemption, resurrection , a triumphant sense of accomplishment. An amazing amazing piece. Chill bumps to this day!
@TriteTrap this track is no doubt an emotional journey - a masterpiece in its own right (ironically enough it is a hybrid) but greatest dance song goes to massive attack for unfinished sympathy.
Fell in love with this when I first heard it back in 1999. It’s a power track. If life feels shit… put this on and blow the nuts off the bad days. This is a reminder of how powerful music is and how it can heal us all and help us reconnect to the soul… Enjoy🥰🔥💥☄️⚡️✨🌟🎧🎵✨💫🌈💛💕⭐️💫
Finally unlocking that last level in SSX Tricky and just shredding that mountain to your heart's content. Memories of 2002. This was a great track for the moment.
First time hearing this belter was listening to a Fantazia mix, late 90’s early 2000. Stands up to date just as well as back then. Opening, mid or last track of a set, it works, whilst resonating with each individual listener in their own unique way. Thank you for sharing. x
Deep powder, steep drops, and awe-inspiring vistas are the norm on Untracked ! Unbelievable ! This is the cherry on TOP ! Chew it slowly..... Carving up some sweet powder for real !
1999 and never heard this track before (I was born in 1991), I literally found it until this year (2020). This track just became really meaningful to me and I'm glad I found it until now, not before, since these last years were really messed up for me (I wouldn't like to hear this track for the same reason), the moment I started feeling free from a stormy past, this track comes up on my YT feed, it's like a gift that God send me (not the track, but the reminder) to make me remember that all the bs is over, new chapter begins. I really love the tone of the orchestra because it expresses a lot of sadness, yet strength and hope, that's quite the way I'm feeling right now.
High and walking to the trance/electronica section at Best Buy. Saw "hybrid" , purchased it, and loaded it into my friends car stereo's cd player. That ride was a-mazing....
I can't believe there aren't more people who know this from A Blurred Line, but then I never played SSX. Incredible song, no matter the context. Thanks for keeping this alive, friend.
Wot a frigging tune! Masterpiece is an understatement it seems to describe life in like 9 and a half mins perfectly, the ups and downs, melancholy, sadness, happy, energy, restoration after decimation and aaahhh that whole key change halfway that the orchestra does with the horn section is soo clever, it's certainly one we cud play to ET life and be like thts us awrite, ths crazy frigging planet 🌏 thts been cryin out for neighbours for a few million yrs, where hav u been all ths time 😂 , we wudnt need spoken language!
There was a listing in the back of mixmag many years ago that said not to be missed, live production at golden in stoke, they took over the front stage and blew people’s minds. I was there. I’m still playing it out live now. Possibly the finest and most orchestral pieces of breakbeat that I doubt will ever be bettered. Finished is correct. You could start or finish with this, it would lodge itself or change lives, define a night, up there with cafe del mar as one of the finest pieces of music ever constructed. I should know. Played both on vinyl since I could get a copy... pob x
Это тот случай когда встречается симфония с электро музыкой. Очень красиво в настоящее время. Англичане всегда были первыми в плане мировой музыки. This is the case when a symphony meets electro music. Very beautiful at present. The British have always been the first in terms of world music.
This song was my first exposure to hybrid orchestras. I was still in school and stopped by the comic book store on my way home, and this was playing, and I still think of it a lot. It's wonderful and I wish more people would hear this track.
Original of this. Anything after is just a biters repeat. Magical Hybrid. Take me home to the Edge and time with it. Floating pants, white gloves, and a slick dance floor with ONLY the BEST dancers, loving tribe and beautiful people anywhere.
Saw them open for Moby years and years ago. Great great act from a fantastic era of EDM/Electronic/techno music. If you're my age, we really lived through something special at the ground floor. To really make you feel it though, think about this; there's just as much time between this songs release and today (5/07/2023) as there is between this songs release and "Shining Star" by Earth Wind and Fire, "Philadelphia Freedom" by Elton John, and "Boogie on Reggae Woman" by Stevie Wonder. Feel old yet?
I used to hear this back in high school! My local radio station used to play this on the weekends, "The Weekend Party Mix"! I always loved this song! So glad to find this gem again!
I randomly downloaded a cut up version of this for Stepmania back in the 2000s and was blown away by it. How you could fuse genres so different but make them blend so well made me love Hybrid.
The beauty, the joy, the emotional plethora this song evokes is the pure state of art in electronic music. I cannot put in words how much I deeply love this track. If I had to chose one single track as my favourite, it’d be this one.
Loved it the first time I heard it back then when I was a child on ssx tricky and it quickly became one of my favorite song of all time. The first time I listened to this song while watching the nature when I was in the alps were like the accomplishment of dream to me
Awesome track!!! Remember this when it was released and hasn't aged a day. Pure perfection.. electro breakbeat and an orchestral piece thats timeless...AMAZING! 🔊🎶💜💜💜💜
Remember this being my favourite song in 2006 while getting ready to deploy to Iraq, this chilled me out and made me feel good when I needed headspace.
What a great album "Wide Angle" was. It (plus the remix) really should be part of the recognised continuum of Stakker, KLF, Orbital, Chems, Leftfield, Underworld, Banco de Gaia, FSOL, Northern Exposure, Global Underground, Bedrock, Renaissance, Perfecto, Moving Shadow, Tong etc as the golden era of British progressive dance music. Saw the album performed live at Fabric and they were epic...ah, days !
A Real Magic Classic and Techno music combination. the most emotional Techno tune I've ever heard. 9min 30sec and ends so fast. also remixed without being ruined
Some bloke driving round Ipswich in 99 put me onto this, I love the wide angles album because of him, I think he had a Vauxhall Nova - you don't see them anymore, BUT THIS IS
Takes me back to 2006 travelling from Bury St Edmunds to Gloucester to see my Nan. Driving a Citroen Zx Volcane flat out the whole way cross country. Awesome.
I heard this track around the year 2007 or 2008.later I lost it,many time I tried to remember but couldn't coz I only know music but not name.Somehow I recollected symphony and searched but couldn't find. And now in the year 2022 Feb I got this and feels great hearing it.Forgotten years are very nostalgic when remembered.Music heals the soul.
Reminds me of travelling the ICE in Europe. When the ICE suddenly appears at the pull of the station, the majestic machine, perfection of German Engineering. Just like how the music here is assembled to perfection. The Voices in the background of this song, are like when you hear in the Train station, the vocal reminder of the time schedule of the arrival departure. And like in this song, the build up, the trance of "whoa" don't get so lost here, it is only the beginning, you really don't know where you are going. A common question I used to get from the locals when I was a dumbfounded tourist trying to make sure I am at the right place at the station. Then when you realize you are in the right place, right Train .. Yo go into the train. The Engineering of the train, the inside, it is like you never walked anyways, it feels like a building. Then you hear the Ding, and other trains depart next to you, you see them moving .. well you think they are moving, you are moving .. Just like how this song plays the other back sequence sounds to the beats, but the violin ... One of the worlds most well crafted perfected musical instrument. Here in this song, it being a Nerve sensation enlightment. Being back on the ICE, seeing that the smoothness of the train, like how the scene of the trains from outside the window moves to the scenery ... You are shocked ... you feel slightly the track change overs ... Then as the ICE is slowly moving from the train depot yard further away from the main depot you were at, where the sounds and beats of this song are like each space between each train car, the beats pick up (minus the commerical interuption) ... then it is a real view change awaken, especially for one who never eally got a chance to take a look outside as you were at about 40kph, which is 25mph, then 100kph, ... and trust me, it accellerates, but you do not feel it. You can read the speed meter on the train ... Next you know you think the Math in the speed, like the majestic beats ... how it is all so squential ... you hear ... 200KPH~! you are 125mph ... put that in BPM's ... and that is about the pace beat of this song ... .. Just remember, enjoy the song like you enjoy the view ...it all is very quiet on there.~!
This song to me is a modern Master piece ... If anyone actually owned the disc set there is a side b remix that I can’t find anywhere that’s more energetic, less melancholy more power
Found this that has both side A & B. The B one is def more energetic as you said, so hoping it's what you were looking for: th-cam.com/video/n2iQ0A0H_4Y/w-d-xo.html

Look for the soundtrack edit. I think that's the one.
Found this that has both side A & B. The B one is def more energetic as you said, so hoping it's what you were looking for:
