That all happened around the time this video came out - 6 years ago. 6 years ago, I didn’t know anything about anything involving go karts and their parts (Jeez, I’m going to be a rapper someday- Karts? Parts? Get it?), so I was pretty impressed with what you had in your shop. Looking at it from my current age’s perspective, it’s not as extravagant but it’s still pretty cool. I mean, who just has a welder casually chilling in the corner of a generic garage?

Those mags were probably stiffer than plywood before they were put away, if you catch my drift. Saw those up, farm some (read: a buttload of) silk from the spiders (this will take a while) and you have an organic frame!
jospi2 I didn't watch this so I could be flipping safe. I wanna taste the apple, jospi2. I want to bite the electric tiger's tail and ride it until the end of the mother flipping line!
Zwenk Wiel not really. if you think about it if your kart was veering to the left you could just attach the steering wheel in such a way that when it is straight the veer is compensated
The bigger issue is at least here in the US you can buy an adequate welder for less than $300 (GBP 200) new, less if ya grab one used. At the rate he is going through hardware, you could have saved half the cost of the welder by not having to buy so many nuts and bolts.
Mig welding is much easier than drilling multiple straight, evenly centered holes through multiple layers of steel. I think that anyone whos done both would agree!
You should do a video series where you build a project without doing any test builds before the videos. It would be a series because it would have a bunch of videos that are of you just failing and having to try again. I think it'd be really cool. What does everyone else think?
This has given me more inspiration for my own go kart which uses a crappy 49cc mini Moto engine so I'm gonna get either the 125cc or a 110cc 4 speed, thanks for your help Colin
Love this make Colin. I always wanted one a s kid. Might just be time to make one. Thanks for taking the time to think through how to make without lots of gear!

In America, I have to sort through two different unit systems in my parts and tools. It's a pain in the ass to find metric calipers, too! Fecking Imperial measurements. Metrics all the way!
The only thing I've ever found confusing with mixing Imperial and metric units is when someone says mil. I'm never sure if they actually mean a mil (.001 inches) or are abbreviating millimeter.
Metric is good for science, as many of the equations are based around it, but Imperial is better for estimates, and for projects it doesn't matter. For instance, you wouldn't say "that guy is about 170 centimeters tall" nor would you say "they're about 2 meters." One is too specific, the other too precise. However, saying "that guy is about 5.5 feet" is easier. And the suchlike.

I agree 100% with what people are saying here. Need to get myself a grinder (or borrow one from family member) and find where to buy the metal from locally. (Sourcing material for projects is the number 1 reason most never get started for me)
Colin Richardson I agree it can be a pain finding materials locally and it can get expensive buying online when you take postage into account. Search for your nearest steel stockholders and give them a call, ask if they have an offcuts section or scrap pile you can look through. My local place has racks of "offcuts" up to about 3m long and the 50x50 box section is about 3 or 4 quid a metre. There's a scrap pile with small offcuts of plate and flat bar that they sell by the kilo for pocket change. I've never tried any but apparently a lot of fabrication places usually have a decent scrap pile you can buy from.

We’d love to make this kart, but where are the measurements? Can anyone help with the basic dimensions, as I guess it’s critical for the steering rod etc.
This is something where you can very easily choose your own measurements. After all, you might need more of less legroom than Colin. And because there's no welding, if something ends up being too long/short, you can simply shorten it/make a new part and bolt it in.
@@zackskinner2666 yeah you can buy a cheap welder for under £100. I'm sure it's shit but it's get the job done. He said the parts would cost £600 brand new. That bit of ply wood for the bottom alone would be over £100 I know recently cos I bought a piece recently half that size to make a lid for an aquarium. Cost £50
While I agree that welders would do a better job, not everyone's workspace would be suitable for welding. The point of this project is that it can be done with minimal tools and skills.
the only thing I dislike about Colin's videos is the inability to find the continuation videos. I'm always so anxious to see the other vids but I can never find them unless I'm in front of a computer and click the box. We need mobile friendly click options

You should flip the rear axle, so the rear sproket will be on the right side of the kart, matching with the left side of the engine ( where is the sproket) so the engine will mount outside of the kart, unless you are trying to seat in front of the engine
+colinfurze What about cooling and breathing? I mean, that engine is air cooled, right? and unless you extend the air intake, it should at full tilt be less powerfull as it could be. (yeah... my gramnar sucks... english is not my first language. :/ )
Air cooled engine should be fine even when there is driver+seat front of it, thought if your going to make some covers for the car, then i suggest building some air intakes just in case. Side mounted engine brings so many troubles with weight distribution that little air cooling is last things in your mind, specially in your first drive with it.
A lot of air will be sucked underneath the cart and pass under the seat, this will get to the engine just fine, the air behind the seat is not going to be sitting still, there will be a fair bit of air movement. It wouldn't overheat even at low speeds or standing still, as long as it's not revving flat out for long periods it shouldn't get too hot anyway.
Hey Colin. I wanted to get one of those cheap Chinese electric bicycle conversation kits - then make it into a PCV pipe go cart for my kids. I’d love to see your take on a PVC pipe / electric project. Cheers. Love your channel !
This dude is awesome hes so positive and wants me to keep making cool stuff like these even in hardtimes when budget is too small big thanks to this guy
Definitely on my bucket list. Still think that if you'd mounted the front wheel assembly upside down you'd have had some neat looking camber. 4 years on and i still love this project
@@minnesotamadman1149 my uncle had one as a kid which was really really scary, so i've heard. apparently the chain was really close to whipping off every time it was ridden.
the entire thing is a bolt on, its all sketchy, the only way to have a go kart that isnt sketchy is to spend 12k on it, and even then, its still fuckin gnarly as shit, go karts flip if theyre gas powered and you hit a rock theres no fun if its safe
@@SM-vq2vs it's possible, it's just an insane amount of effort to do that lol, you can drill and cut everything by hand but it's gonna take a bloody long time to get through the metal lol
Hey Colin really enjoy your videos when you put them up, I am disabled myself in a wheelchair, In your other video where you build the fastest mobility scooter I own the exact same 1, But always wanted to switch t to gas and lift it so a set of ATV tires would fit on it, I am really in need of help because I live way up in Northern Canada where we get a lot of snow, And my electric wheelchair I use now is top of the line but garbage really for me where I live because soon as we start getting snow my chair does not move then I am bed ridden for 6 months, I been trying every where for some 1 to help me design what parts I need and where I can get them, Not sure if you ever seen a wheelchair on TH-cam that is called The Tank chair, thing is awesome I tried 1 out and it will go through mud no problem when ATV,s are getting stuck and it works great in snow as well,Now seeing this video you are doing looks like maybe it could be turned into something I can use, The frame looks similar that you are building to the 4 wheel drive chair they sell for over $20,000, That is insane, Was wondering if there were a way for me to contact you or you me, and talk about a build what can give me some quality of life, be different if i were in my 60,s or 70,s but I am only 40 and very active, Would be in dedted to you if you could design a 4 wheel drive chair something like you are building in this video,Could you please get back to me and see how we can get in contact with each other and you being so incredible with imagination and building things, I beleive you could build something aw some My apologies I should of got a few pics from the internet showing you the 4 wheel drive mobility scooters or off road scooters-, Thank you for your time and hope to be able to hear back from you, Bear., +
On his second and finish project video, It has the info how to get the parts all from Amazon.com.including the 2" box tubing needed for the frame.(Great job sir !)LOVE IT !
Colin... have you ever thought about making your own variation of a battle robot much like the ones on robot wars? I'm sure you could make one that could destroy the house robots?
What I find AMAZING about Colin is that his shop is the size of my bathroom and he can build almost anything better and bigger than life! Size does not matter 😂😂😂!
@@freddieparrydrums Its been quite a while since ive built mine, i remember buying a steering kit from eBay for around 50 60 ish $ including the steering wheel, now for the wheels you can get those cheap wheels from harbor freight for about 6$ each
Mega But if he were not to make it straight it would have possitive camber, and that is bad, you could potencially even brake of the wheel when steering, and you can see it still has a tiny bit of negative camber :D
Colin...Salute to you sport. You ever get to the US and ever find yourself in Arizona come looks us up..We have some fun spots and place you would get some extreme project inspirations from. Just flat-out Great times!! First time to your channel and love everything I have seen and looking for your next adventure shared. Hey bro could you give me all the measurements from this go cart I want to build the pretty much exact same one and I don’t have a welder so that would be awesome maybe we could talk over email or something thanks
i'll get round to it one day (not mega white but slightly better than what i have lol) but its well under V8's and what not on the things i need to spend money on list haha
Seriously though I was considering making a dune buggy with it. It redlines to 10,000 RPMs. So I'll need to gear it down a lot. Don't need to be cruising over the beach at 80 miles an hour.
Colin I remembered when I asked you build a go kart when I was 10 or 12 I think and your wife responded that you were working I remember and now here I am probably about to make one but with 2 seats unless my mom buys one
The turning axis should be aligned towards the center of the wheels contact surface to the ground. Otherwise you'll get very weird or impossible steering. Ground clearance on a go-kart?!? It's a go-kart not cross-kart.
Hey there. I also have been planning to make one of these. For what I've seen in these vids, it looks like a 6ft x 12ft the frame. Thank you and hope you can resolve it.
@@comedyclipsxxxl7506 yeah no problemo, what I'm having in issue now is actually finding a decent 125cc motor. Pitbike.com UK won't ship to the US and not a lot of people sell those, but I'll give you an update if i do get anything 👍🏼
Would it be possible to mount the engine properly up front? I've been watching a lot of these go kart build and power wheels mods and the engine is always mounted on the back but I've been wanting to make my own go kart and give it sort of a pick up truck body so I can drive around my neighborhood on trash day and collect treasures in the bed and having the engine in the back wiuld mean less space for a bed.
Given that it would either have to be FWD, or to have an axel with an axel running down the middle of the chassis (unless you made a long chain) , it would be fine, maybe a bit longer as to make room for a seat.
You can run a system of chains running along the side of your truck and then back down to the rear axle. And just make chain guards to cover up the chains

You should flip the rear axle, so the rear sproket will be on the right side of the kart, matching with the left side of the engine ( where is the sproket) so the engine will mount outside of the kart, unless you are trying to seat in front of the engine
seats going in front, i don't like side mounted engines
+colinfurze What about cooling and breathing?
I mean, that engine is air cooled, right? and unless you extend the air intake, it should at full tilt be less powerfull as it could be.
(yeah... my gramnar sucks... english is not my first language. :/ )
patricio valenzuela Side to side weight distribution must be taken into consideration. An ideal one would be symmetrical centre mounted engine.
Finally no tie ,its about time !👍
We need to get people building stuff in their sheds. Lockdown opened up alot of eyes, what they can do. Let's make it easier
By the way, great videos. Keep up the great work.
Colin, mate
Where's your fucking Safety Tie?
I was wondering aswell!
I mean the angle grinder is pretty dangerous..... :D
Safety tie is a piece of premium gear.
Well you said it, guess what happens when the angle grinder catches on his tie.
2dog14 Indeed. And he forgot to say that a safety tie is the most important tool for the task.
Like darklander said, safety tie couldn't be used because not everyone has access to one
Definitely on my bucket list. Still think that if you'd mounted the front wheel assembly upside down you'd have had some neat looking camber. 4 years on and i still love this project
That front axle part is sketchy
Arnt all the gocarts people make as kids sketchy?
@@minnesotamadman1149 my uncle had one as a kid which was really really scary, so i've heard. apparently the chain was really close to whipping off every time it was ridden.
the entire thing is a bolt on, its all sketchy, the only way to have a go kart that isnt sketchy is to spend 12k on it, and even then, its still fuckin gnarly as shit, go karts flip if theyre gas powered and you hit a rock theres no fun if its safe
where did buy that steering axle?
3:35 Built-in bumpers. Clever.
THANK YOU AND SO MANY OTHERS LIKE YOU FOR TRYING TO HELP PEOPLE,
Since you didn't use a welder, you could cut a wider hole so you could tension the chain by moving the engine back and fourth.
lifting it with washers is easier and can not slip.
colinfurze A bit harder but true.
There is always two ways to do it.. Lazy way or the right way.

Next vid idea: Go Cart w/ no power tools. Awesome vid tho now I feel inspired.
I think It might be impossible unless you use like hand operated drill
@@SM-vq2vs it's possible, it's just an insane amount of effort to do that lol, you can drill and cut everything by hand but it's gonna take a bloody long time to get through the metal lol
Didnt filthy frank just build this?
glad I wasn't the only one who thought this
ikr
Ruben Salazar pimped wheelchairs ftw
Looking for too long gor this comment
What video?
Hey Colin really enjoy your videos when you put them up, I am disabled myself in a wheelchair, In your other video where you build the fastest mobility scooter I own the exact same 1, But always wanted to switch t to gas and lift it so a set of ATV tires would fit on it, I am really in need of help because I live way up in Northern Canada where we get a lot of snow, And my electric wheelchair I use now is top of the line but garbage really for me where I live because soon as we start getting snow my chair does not move then I am bed ridden for 6 months, I been trying every where for some 1 to help me design what parts I need and where I can get them, Not sure if you ever seen a wheelchair on TH-cam that is called The Tank chair, thing is awesome I tried 1 out and it will go through mud no problem when ATV,s are getting stuck and it works great in snow as well,Now seeing this video you are doing looks like maybe it could be turned into something I can use, The frame looks similar that you are building to the 4 wheel drive chair they sell for over $20,000, That is insane, Was wondering if there were a way for me to contact you or you me, and talk about a build what can give me some quality of life, be different if i were in my 60,s or 70,s but I am only 40 and very active, Would be in dedted to you if you could design a 4 wheel drive chair something like you are building in this video,Could you please get back to me and see how we can get in contact with each other and you being so incredible with imagination and building things, I beleive you could build something aw some My apologies I should of got a few pics from the internet showing you the 4 wheel drive mobility scooters or off road scooters-, Thank you for your time and hope to be able to hear back from you,
Bear.,

no safety tie, that's bloody dangerous
I agree sir, this is nonsense
The safety tie is a power tool, this video is basic tools only.
alejandrinos safety tie allows you to use level 5 tools, todays level 1
You obviously haven't watched enough colinfurze XD
When was he using any tools with the tie on?
On his second and finish project video, It has the info how to get the parts all from Amazon.com.including the 2" box tubing needed for the frame.(Great job sir !)LOVE IT !
Where? I dont see it anywhere.
"And it is fully adjustable with only an angle grinder and a tig welder."
TOT ;)
Colin... have you ever thought about making your own variation of a battle robot much like the ones on robot wars? I'm sure you could make one that could destroy the house robots?
What I find AMAZING about Colin is that his shop is the size of my bathroom and he can build almost anything better and bigger than life! Size does not matter 😂😂😂!
I am trying to make a go cart but I'm struggling to find parts for £300
easy bro
@@bojanautocare8260 help pls
@@freddieparrydrums What parts do you need?
@@bojanautocare8260 I need the steering rack, wheels, stuff like that. Don’t need engine or stuff to build frame. Thx
@@freddieparrydrums Its been quite a while since ive built mine, i remember buying a steering kit from eBay for around 50 60 ish $ including the steering wheel, now for the wheels you can get those cheap wheels from harbor freight for about 6$ each
Colin...do you even camber bro??
was thinking about the same thing. the angle on the wheel bit is to get more traction while doing corners
Really? On a kart without suspension? I thought the angle stabilizes and centers the steering.
Mega But if he were not to make it straight it would have possitive camber, and that is bad, you could potencially even brake of the wheel when steering, and you can see it still has a tiny bit of negative camber :D
ikkk he could totally make a stance cart
tubybubi I think caster angle does this, not camber
Colin...Salute to you sport. You ever get to the US and ever find yourself in Arizona come looks us up..We have some fun spots and place you would get some extreme project inspirations from. Just flat-out Great times!! First time to your channel and love everything I have seen and looking for your next adventure shared. Thank you for the inspiration to put a pit bike motor in the cycle car I will be building with my 3 yr ole boy.
How about you put a small block chevy in the gokart?? 8000hp should be enough..
✭GodLike3539✭ you aren't getting 8000 HP out of a small block Chevy haha
✭GodLike3539✭ they run off that block, not the same engine haha. those are built to shit. not even the same beast after they are done with them lol
✭GodLike3539✭ what if he put a big block chevy on it
Mr. Jack A$$ he meant 800, but your probably not gonna get that
No way a small block wud make 8000
10:02 craiglist be like just needs some TLC
carmadnab lol
Super awesome build, i would have never thought to make something without the welder. Good on you, mate. I might try it with wood, pray for me.
Wooden ice. The moter of the druids
Pimp your Wheelchair from Filthy Frank anyone?
yup
What I was thinking
I was about to comment that
as soon as he posted a pic of this on twitter this is exactly what i thought lmao
Yes hahaha
Can you please send me a list of the measurements and the materials you used. Great video👍👍👍

Love you man!
4:47 But i won't lose no sleep on that, cause i've got a plan
Hey bro could you give me all the measurements from this go cart I want to build the pretty much exact same one and I don’t have a welder so that would be awesome maybe we could talk over email or something thanks
Colin Furze you are a genius
First youtuber to not get 80,000$ teeths or whitening
hes just being himself.
HA, I noticed that too about a whole bunch of YTers. They must be real self conscious. BLEACH the hell out of their teeth.
You know that retail teeth whiteners aren't really all that expensive, right?
i'll get round to it one day (not mega white but slightly better than what i have lol) but its well under V8's and what not on the things i need to spend money on list haha
sure, not one of my top things on my "to do" list either. Some day.
Charcoal does the trick, apparently
I have a spare 750cc Honda motorcycle engine with it work for this project?
dude that has so much power. its too fast. Unless you want to fly to the moon i'd suggest use a less powerful engine
With such engine, you should build buggy instead of go cart.
Just do not full-thottle it.
More like fly to the hospital.
9:17 the front sprocket can anyone tell me what its called? I cant find one that fits
9:08 "...NOPE, not even thought about it..."
You are a saint I have been wanting to make one for ages
you could really easily be a super villain
alright colin, great vid, but just wondering what lathe it is you have in your shed..? cheers
Furze! I would really love to see your entry into Robot Wars! I don't mean the Hulkbuster!
i thought that he mounted the front wheel upside down, and the wheel is supposed to be cambered out?? or is it just me?
youre right
Yeah the front wheels are meant to have negative camber, so when you take bends at speed all the tire is touching the ground.
Yeah, that's true what I thought, but also the way he has it now the chassis is upside down anyway because he has lower ground clearance :-(
Having said that it does have a forward tilt
The turning axis should be aligned towards the center of the wheels contact surface to the ground. Otherwise you'll get very weird or impossible steering.
Ground clearance on a go-kart?!? It's a go-kart not cross-kart.
its funny how most people arent actually going to do this
you dont get the point
Bryce Parker if you ever get the time in your life, maybe you will :p
Bryce Parker if I was 7 I would havr 😂
Bryce Parker if colin likes to do this then let HIM do it go waste your time somewhere else
Well I did it.
This is the video that led me to this channel.
Collin have you got the measurements please i am wanting to make this asap ??
Same
Hey there. I also have been planning to make one of these. For what I've seen in these vids, it looks like a 6ft x 12ft the frame. Thank you and hope you can resolve it.
Johannz Niebla thanks mate if you actually make it i wouldnt mind looking at a picture if you do please
@@comedyclipsxxxl7506 yeah no problemo, what I'm having in issue now is actually finding a decent 125cc motor. Pitbike.com UK won't ship to the US and not a lot of people sell those, but I'll give you an update if i do get anything 👍🏼
Johannz Niebla try ebay mate they should have them on there have you got any pics on what u done up to now ?
What kind of magic have you studied??? Your videos are greaaaaat
Do you have drawings (dwg ) for this so I can make it a project to my school?
