Nice video. I noticed you only changed the top half with the thermostat itself and sensor connection. How much longer do you think it would have been to replace the entire thermostat assembly?

Thanks for this video! I just changed my thermostat on my W166 2019. Just a quick question please, the part of the thermostat that you didn’t change, it has a gasket the orange one, if that gasket is bad…. What would you think the symptoms would be? I didn’t change it on mine either and I’m worried thinking I should have

Usually the gaskets fail after the engine overheats.

@@michaelkoren56Thanks for the reply, I never had it overheat, but I wonder if that gasket goes bad can it cause the coolant to enter the manifold or exhaust ?

@@SammyS1836 Not under any condition. In most cases, this is the result of a blown head gasket.

@@michaelkoren56 my head gasket isn’t blown, there’s no coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant, I also did a combustion test to confirm at different times. For whatever reason I have blue coolant in my system which I’ll flush for OEM pink but… after changing my thermostat I realized I don’t have any heat (I never use heat, live in a hot climate) and my temperature reaches 90 but then goes down to 80ish whenever I drive and then back up to 90 when idling. That’s why I tackled my thermostat. Other then that the reason behind my question was my original issue which is for some reason at random times there would be white smoke from my exhaust only when in park (at idle). It’s rare, not common but happens with a slight smell of antifreeze. Can’t point my finger on what’s the cause….

@@SammyS1836 Coolant gets into the exhaust? Another reason could be bad gasket seal between the cooling system and the intake or exhaust manifold.

It might just be condensation being vented while the engine is running.

I didn’t see any gasket on that part of the thermostat. Does it come with one or you simply just put it on and that’s it ?

Engine Coolant Thermostat O-Ring was on the thermostat housing.

I need help how to bleed the air out of the system

Well the way it was done in this video (although it isn’t shown) was a vacuum fill. If you were doing this with out vacuum fill what I would recommend is leaving the coolant cap off. Then fill reservoir and start the car and set the heat all the way up. While the car is idling keep an eye on the reservoir level as it may go down and you will just keep adding coolant after about ten minutes check the heat coming from the vents if it’s hot there is no air. If it’s still cold repeat the steps again and it should start to warm up if not you may have another issue. While the car is idling I also at times dip my finger in to the coolant to see if it is getting warm but doing all that should help you get the air out the system. It may take longer but it still does get the job done. Hope this helps!
