I started rooting for Disney’s demise when they tried to sue parents who put Disney characters on their children’s graves. The final straw was when they sided with communists who were throwing Muslims in concentration camps
For me, it started when they refused to pay any royalties to the authors of Star Wars expanded universe books. Alan Dean Foster’s elderly wife was dying, he was struggling to pay her medical bills and they claimed they don’t owe authors anything even as their books continue to sell.
The failure of Lightyear still drives me nuts, because we already HAD an origin story with Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. It was a perfect satire of Saturday morning cartoons while itself being a great Saturday morning cartoon. If Disney had given it the big budget film treatment, that would have been enough.

While I'm happy to let some people root for the splitting of Disney part, I dread to think of my theory about what will happen to Disney becoming true... Brilliant as always, Moon. One minor thing. The total revenue of the box office for movies doesn't reflect the total amount of money the studio receives. They only get a percentage of the box office. The fact that they keep pushing out these “movies”, despite they loose a ton of money, makes me thinking that money is not the most important but the propaganda behind them.
No dude. Large companies are compelled to increase profits year on year, because thats the only way to secure continuing new and recurring investment into them. These investments into these companies are done by large investment firms, like blackrock etc. These large investment firms are compelled to grow the money they receive from their clients. Those clients are investing for their retirement mostly. If Disney is struggling to push out profitable products, each flop forces it to push out another project to make up for the last one, and faster, since growth is measured in set timeframes. They are then forced to cut corners for the sake of speed of output. Since they have to comply with that piece of shit ESG score, again for the sake of new and recurring investments, it all starts to look like propaganda. Chances are, the bigwigs in disney and the like are lamenting and cursing the ESG shit. But they have to comply.
they are absolutely willing to sacrifice entire companies if it means it will push their agenda forward, its not only about money. The number one priority is fulfilling the agenda, money comes second, maybe even third.

I don't like the term Woke because it's started to become a free pass to say anything that acknowledges the existence of minority groups is automatically awful. However, in Disney's case I think it's a suitable criticism. They just take old stories, swap the characters into different ethnicities, sexualities and gender identities for diversity points, usually misses the point of those stories completely, then blames racism, sexism and homophobia for a lack of return so they can look like victims.
Why should minority's be a concern? They have whole corners of the world exclusively populated and run by them. In fact, they aren't even minorities; Europeans are about 10% of the human population. Europeans, White people, should have their own nations FOR THEM and for them ONLY. If you don't like living around White people then go somewhere else, but I'm sure that won't happen.
Acknowledging the existence of minority groups is not awful. Pretending to care about them while all you're really doing is using them as tools in your quest for world domination, is. That's what the left has been doing for as long as there's been a left. It is pure evil.

The shame is what Disney himself would think. He was a buissness man sure, but he had the passion for animation and storytelling. Now that passion is gone.
Its such a shame. When i was a kid in the 90s, Disney was truly magical. Once they shifted to a political corporation instead of an entertainment corporation is when things went downhill. I cant wait to see them go. They are causing nothing but damage to society now. Companies like this have to go. It's a net negative for society.
They’ve always been a political corporation bud. Look at their donor levels and who they’ve given money to over the years. Some cry baby people on the right are throwing a FIT bc Disney stopped funding them. That’s what is happening rn. Now if political to you is having a pretend mermaids race change and you have never been angry at Disney having a predominately white cast for the last 60 years you are just a bigot. That’s not political honey
Well, that won't happen unless they die, and be resurrected back into their golden ages. The current Disney as of now needs to die, so that it may turn into something better. And also, Disney should just sell the assets they acquired which aren't helping them make money, and they should return to making original content again.
I just want them to give us back the Simpsons, and Ice Age all the rest of Blue Sky Studios stuff. Its unlikely that company would ever come back but hey one could dream.
It's all degenerated so far from the wholesome, uplifting, hand-drawn works of art Walt made. It's become a festering rotting, evil leviathan that just consumes and destroys. It's time to let it die, so something newer and better can grow.
The thing is, Walt explicitly asked on his deathbed to never let people like the Igers get their hands on the place. Because their nature is to rot places totally over time.
It just breaks my heart to see it come to this. Disney has given me some of the most amazing film experiences I have ever had in my life. It’s just really heartbreaking to just see it like this.
Now I see why Universal has been investing so heavily in Islands of Adventure. They see Disney spiraling and they're straight up stealing all of the tourists Disney is losing.
What's both so heartbreaking yet satisfying is that it IS Disney. While they very much had this coming seeing as how aggressively corporate and desensitized they've been to the world around them, they are still an important part of many childhoods and just the thought of any of the many extreme changes that could come from this is unsettling.
Disney isn't... well... Disney anymore; they're a normal "big 6" media company just like all the others in the oligopoly. Thinking a corporate entity is "beautiful and magical" is really dumb, especially if it's a "big 6" media company that owns things like Family Guy, National Geographic, Star Wars, and Marvel Studios.
I truly hope they do go under. If they do, it will be well earned and entirely deserved. They've thrown out or turned away from everything that made them a great company in the first place. If you're going to alienate your longtime fans to appeal to a small handful of people making a lot of noise, you shouldn't be surprised when you start taking a financial hit.
@dawn95 Don't be silly. Disney will have the Midas touch again once I get to work there as a storyboard artist. Things will be completely different than they are now. I plan to abolish the woke agenda completely and bring Disney back to a new golden Renaissance age. I guarantee it.

Honeslty, as an animation lover I kinda find this good. Disney really needs to take a step back to reevaluate what they want to make, and let other companies to come out and do their own things I think the “Wokeness” is only a part of a bigger part of an issue of Disney. Their inability to take risk. Disney is so scared of making anything “edgy” or “original” because they don’t want it to be original or interesting, but something simple that they “think” will pander to the people. It’s one thing to be inclusive and make stuff for a franchise, but it becomes an issue when inclusivity and “Look at my new Franchise addition” becomes the ONLY thing they use to actually make people watch their show/Movies. I wanna see new, edgy, chaotic movies. I wanna see risk, but Disney is obviously not willing to do it because they’re scared of losing money to a project that “May or may not make it”, when in reality that very idea is the reason why they are losing money. This is why other companies are doing better then Disney rn. They are trying new things and not being afraid to change what is there. I also think that’s why indie animation has been such a boom lately, people are tired of seeing old people who run these huge companies try to pander to the generation these days and go “Hey! Look! It’s that thing that you kids do!!! Isn’t it SOOO relatable?!” No grandpa Disney, what you’re showcasing is an outside perspective. You don’t have to pretend you understand it… Also the entire tombstone situation? What the fuck. That’s fucked.
That's also a big reason why anime is seeing such a rise in popularity in the west. Japanese animation is totally alien to all this stuff going on here and they're mostly authors who just want to tell a story
I agree with most of your points here. I think the 2d animation really sold the wonder and magic their old films were supposed to inspire. These films were never designed to be live action for a reason and the creators specifically chose 2d animation as the medium. Disney seems to think I inclusivity is having a brash outspoken character nobody likes. It's as of they're picking from a race chart first and designing the story second. Their actions as a company displays the same tone-deaf nature of add a woman to satisfy some quota or something. A good character isnt defined by gender or race, they are defined by their actions, what they do, their beliefs. Disney has really failed to capture this aspect which makes their choices in cast all the more obvious. It's disgusting to be honest. I don't think the problem here is older generations though. Most film sland media that say a teenager would see is written by somebody older. It's basic nature that the hits of our time will be written by an older generation. I think the real problem is the attempt to pander to a younger audience and seem "cool". It's done so poorly that it's jarring and breaks the narrative. I don't see this as an issue of age, but rather some requirement that came from higher up the ladder. Lastly indie animation is a gem and I'm so glad it exists. It proves the wonder of 2d animation is still capable of inspiring the audience. Heck anime has had a huge boon in the West because it isn't afraid to talk about more adult concepts. Our place in the world, what it means to be human, how we can improve ourselves and the world around us. All topics worth of discussion. Plenty of darker topics out there too. It's wonderful seeing the indie space in general pick up reigns where Disney has so blatantly blundered.
Can we please isolate Disney animations from the rest of Disney? Less you forget, Encanto was less than 2 years ago, and just because Illuminations movies are popular doesn’t make them good. Like of course a MARIO movie is gonna be a hit Plus, wouldn’t their flops be considered them taking risks?

The parks will still be there. I don’t think they’re going anywhere. Even if Disney were to fail completely, someone else will buy them and keep them going. Why dismantle such a ridiculously profitable park? They may not be doing so well right now, but that’s because the current leadership refuses to listen to the needs of its employees or the people who attend these parks.
It's a shame it came to this... But my sympathy for Disney died the moment the sued a couple for putting a Spider-Man sticker on the grave of their dead son. Complaining about Disney failing because they're too woke is like looking at a fiercely burning building and complaining that the windows need cleaning. Disney virtue signalling is the least of the problems here.

That's a terrible idea. No one would watch it as they've already seen it all. The point of a remake (for movies/series at least) is to try something new and do some things different. If you go in expecting the exact same thing then you're doing it wrong for sure. If it was the exact same thing you probably wouldn't even watch it. Disney’s wokeness makes Scientology look reasonable Of course though, Tom Cruise makes far better movies than Disney 😂 Seriously though, Tom’s been a Hollywood star since the 80s so he knows what people like and want. He also knows people don’t like having political propaganda forced into people’s faces, so he delivers on that, and makes movies that people will love and enjoy with their friends and family. He’s the last true movie star, and Hollywood should learn from him, especially Disney

The thing is, I don't mind Disney trying to be woke... companies are structures and especially big ones don't have a soul so they might as well try to fake having one, however, they prioritize being woke over good writing and allowing individuals to put their souls into their projects and that is the problem, in my humble opinion. We don't want perfect female characters, we want well written ones. We don't need the happiest of endings everywhere, we want deserved ones.
@@tau-5794 I learned sth new today, so thank you, however i fail to see how it's not about profit, if a company tries to keep everyone happy by having a high ESG rating, so they can continue making money. Did Disney erase Finn from the Chinese poster?! Seriously? I thought they were ALL ABOUT diversity with how they are changing beloved characters into a race that they are not.
When you think about it, the fall of Disney kind of has the same energy as a story Disney might tell in itself: No matter how big and strong a giant is, stab him in the foot enough times, and sooner or later he’s gonna topple over!
As I had heard from a speech in Tallahassee regarding the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., giants do fall, and giants will fall. As much as I like some of the Disney films, there comes a point where giants have to fall. Goliath fell. Standard Oil fell. Dutch East India fell.

Honeslty, as an animation lover I kinda find this good. Disney really needs to take a step back to reevaluate what they want to make, and let other companies to come out and do their own things
I think the “Wokeness” is only a part of a bigger part of an issue of Disney.
Isn’t it SOOO relatable?!”
No grandpa Disney, what you’re showcasing is an outside perspective. You don’t have to pretend you understand it…
Also the entire tombstone situation? What the fuck. That’s fucked.
As an animator, I agree with you. The only movie I enjoyed was elemental but besides that their recent movies really do suck.
