- White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said that he believes that his job is to be honest with the public but "sometimes we can disagree with the facts but our intention is never to lie." "There are certain things that we may -- we may not fully understand when we come out but our intention is never to lie to you," he said.
Today's news conference is the first time Spicer is taking reporters' questions since the inauguration. On Saturday, he appeared in the briefing room and read a statement to the press but did not take any questions afterward. For more: abcnews.go.com/Politics/sean-s...

This was the first normalisation of the new Presidency. Sean Spicer looked competent and seemed to be enjoying himself without measuring every word like his predecessor did. Early days , but I think Trump got one pick right.

I know, I liked the way he handled himself here. I was nervous about how the press briefings would like be since his first appearance.
Not sure if I should "thumbs up" Spicer or "thumbs down" the extremely biased partisan questions asked by ABC "news". I don't remember ABC asking Jay Carney or Josh Earnest if they were liars... even though they clearly were.
It did seem like a childish question. A few minutes before the press conference started a slightly known reporter was carrying on, on social media, about how much of a "liar" Spicer is. She probably wasn't the only one saying that. They (and crooked politicians) will continue trying to delegitimize Trump's people in order to cover their own asses/failures to the public.
Ryan Schooler because they didn't have to. It's obvious that trump is having spicer lie for him to cover up his many insecurities like the size of his inauguration and the size of the popular vote.
Just like Obama had Carney lie about every family saving $2,500 per year after Obamacare passes. And how Obama had Carney lie about the Anti-Muslim video... and so on and so on.
Both Trump and Obama have lied on TV but, the press never showed any concern for Obama's blatant lies. A free press shouldn't be comprised of people from only one political party.

Exactly, Trump tried turning his inauguration into a popularity contest and he lost. Then like the man-child he is he refused to accept it, and made Mr Spicer here lie to us about it. Now that they are being called out on it Trump supporters want to claim "why is CNN turning this into a popularity contest?" It wasnt CNN or pussy butthurt libruls that did this, it was TRUMP.

Prior to the press release on Saturday when Spicer released his statements there were several circulations demeaning and projecting that barely anyone showed up/watched his inaugural address. Spicer corrected the record with what facts that were known at the time. In this press conference he amended his prior statement to some regard but did not back down on the statement that it was the most watched inaugural speech ever. The latter statement is understood to be fact especially with all the live streaming services available and a global viewership much more in tune with this election cycle than prior ones. Don't misrepresent the reality.

I've been a journalist from the age of 19 - and that's a long, long time ago. But my code of ethics means you treat everyone in a professional manner and report their words accurately. Sure, there's plenty of room for 'think-piece' articles, but the writer must simultaneously be fair and balanced. If you don't want to be an independent 'journalist' then be a commentator...but make sure you are not confusing readers/listeners by a blurring of the two realities.

I think Sean Spicer did an amazing job. He handled all the questions is a respectful and fair way. The media even showed him respect by asking questions in an orderly fashion.

When I went on a field trip to the Ronald Reagan library, I was sent to the press room (where all those people are in the video). Our 1/3 of our class settled in and I was the bureau chief. The room looked exactly like the room in the video, but not as many people. ^_^

Rethinking Religions - To your point about comparing Nielsen ratings from 2009 to 2017: Everyone can agree that over 8 years facebook, phones, tablets and other non-TV devices have increased in use exponentially. Nielsen ratings only cover TV audience. The fact (yes fact) that the TV viewing audience was only 7.2 million behind Obama's 2009 viewership is amazing since many viewers no longer rely on TV (i.e., they stream over tablets and phones for some examples). The question then becomes, is it reasonable to assume there were more than 7.2 million non-TV viewers? The answer is absolutely yes. Because it can not be quantified you want to remove it completely, which is seriously flawed logic. That's not surprising though since the next thing you will talk about is the popular vote. Give me a break. Deal with your lose the same why I dealt with Obama's two term win while I watched thousands of jobs being eliminated from this country. I know how you feel. It really sucks to have your opponent take office. The good news is that Trump with make your life better unlike what Obama did for mine.

Not because I disagreed with the decision on TPP, but because I wanted to know more about how this administration plans to approach it. Great job. Clear and concise information. A hiring freeze is a waste of time. Those jobs are still needed so they will have to contract those jobs with private contractors which cost more. It's already been done, and it costed $40million more than hiring federal workers. Maybe if our countries leaders take a history course they won't make the same mistakes again.

Where do some of these reporters come from. The press is harping on insignificant issues such as how many people watched the inauguration? Why did the press secretary brief the press on the Dinner with CIA officials. What journalism school did these reporters attend? There are much bigger and important issues to ask questions about. Sean Spicer has given these reporters more time than they were used to so they are obviously unprepared and unable to think on their feet to bring up intelligent questions. The majority of reporters asked intelligent questions but the couple that kept harping on the inauguration and dinner should not have gotten second, third and fourth answers to those questions.
They didn't get to ask him questions yesterday when the White House Press Secretary was told to stand in front of the American people and bitch to the media about how they were showing the wrong crowd size pictures. You don't think the administration should be asked about that bizarre scene which was unprecedented in modern American history? He's lucky it took about 5 or 6 reporters before the first question was asked about that.
I think he addressed that in his answers. To continuously report false statements that diminishes the support of the president is counter productive to America.
