Norm was inspired by a sketch that Eugene Levy wrote on his time at SCTV. Norm wanted to get permission from Eugene before pitching it for SNL and Mr. Levy gave him the green light. Those friendly Canadians.

These Jeopardy skits are the only skits where Will Ferrell plays the “straight man.” And the reason it works so well is because he plays the straight man so well.

All the greats never broke. Norm is one of the greats, top 5 for me. Any actor that needs to laugh at his own content isn't bringing enough to the table to begin with, Jimmy Fallon is a textbook example, and all the ones that came after him are all in the same league, little leagues that is.

I'm a teacher and the this is exactly what trying to manage children is like.
I'm a retired mental health BS RN; we have to love what we do. To teach an exceptionally intelligent, very energetic canine pup is easier, I know because I'm a life long dog lover & owner. Patience, empathy while maintaining a firm back-bone is difficult. Still the children that you've helped will always remember you for a life time. I can travel back to the Maryland/D.C. area where I lived in the late 1980's/90's and former patients still find me to say thanks. Ms. Huff, our professions mean more to our charges than you may know now. Hang in there Isabella. The kids that really want to learn will love you a lifetime.

On admission, the adolescents, same level as a 10th month canine pup but with more understanding of English sometimes because these humans were raised/taught less than a neglected canine. Later after my military service; in the E.R. or on the ward; best thing is developing excellent therapeutic communication skills and muscle when needed. In the mid 90's I said to my coworkers, "In 10 years from now Borderline Personality Disorders (generation X & beyond) will drive us all crazy. Compassion and understanding is our only defense; loads of paperwork when we ought to be attending patients is a jinks to us all.

Norm MacDonald showing up halfway to through the skit, saying something mildly racist, than leaving before it’s over is completely on brand for Norm MacDonald
Norm MacDonald came up with the idea for "Celebrity Jeopardy." It was based on the fact that, as Norm pointed out in an interview, they make game shows "really easy" for celebrities. It was also based on an old SCTV "Jeopardy"-style sketch using really dumb people. Norm asked Martin Short who wrote that sketch so he could get permission to do it on SNL without being accused of stealing, so Norm called up Eugene Levy and got his permission. Norm also loves the word "Chinaman," because he thinks is funny and "the least racist, racial insult."
I'm almost 30, and for some reason I always hated Norm. I hate his name, hate his voice, hate his voice. It's like a primal instinct takes over whenever I see him

Jeopardy is one of the all-time great skits and this is a great one. Ferrell just reading the categories had me cracking up so kudos to the writers.

Fun fact that only die-hard Hawaii 5-0 fans would know: Kam auditioned to reprise the Chin Ho role for the ultimately shelved 1997 5-0 series reboot (starring, believe it or not, Gary Busey as McGarrett 😱🤣).
Kam was (sadly) a bit financially strapped and needed the money. Ofc, he didn't bother to remind the producer, director, and writers that the Chin character had been killed off in the original series. 🤔😆

Yeah. She did too good that she actually annoyed the heck out of me! I liked her better as a serious actress... like in "the secret life of Walter Mitty" with Ben Stiller, which I saw recently. Ben Stiller, on the other hand, was hilarious when played Tom Cruise on one of the Celebrity Jeopardy skits!

Just watched a rerun of Jeopardy! where they actually used almost every one of these categories. Trebek looked like he was fighting to keep a straight face through it all.
Every now and then SNL actually returns to its roots a just raw comedy. Funny at all costs. Didn’t care if they offended anyone funny. This was one of those rare glimpses.

Why oh why out of all the people they scrapped from the barrel, couldn't Will Farrel have guest hosted jeopardy just ONCE after trebeks passing. Just once, have him host the actual show.
