I'm so happy this video wasn't 15 minutes long with an intro of just stating that you have cast iron skillets thank you for getting to the point and I love your editing
@@BlackTieKitchen Guess I am not looking to be entertained. More interested in the factual presentation of the best methods for the care and maintenance of cast iron cookware. Have at it man!
Love it! My first cast iron skillet just arrived and I wanted to learn how to season it and cook with it... Thanks for the fun and informative video. As I watched, it really put things into perspective. Don't make it too complicated, just take care of it, cook with it and enjoy!
Far out! I didn't know you had so many different types of videos.👍 I was searching on the TH-cam-verse for a vid on proper storage of cast iron cookware and this one ☝was in my feed. I've been cleaning out my cookware cabinets and decided to clean and season all my cast iron. I'm not a hoarder, but I counted out 10 different pieces ranging from an aebleskiver pan to a 14 in pan with double-loop handles. It's taking me three days to do the task, and do it right. Fark! 😜Alas, they look really pretty now. 😄Thank you for the video and instructional information. As always, spending time watching you do your 'kitchen wizardry' Black Tie-style has been loads of fun, and made me laugh A LOT. 🤩Take care and be safe! 😊💖🙏
Your vids are in the category of the best I’ve seen. Thanks for showing how to season a cast iron pan. Now you need to do one on how to properly clean one!
Thanks! There are a bunch of way to clean them: personally Ive found those 'chainmail' type scrubbers with a little water and some mild soap work really well for tough bits. Just make sure not to scrub it like crazy
Don't listen to the haters, if they want a boring video about seasoning cast iron, there are plenty around. This video however, is brilliant and inspirational and I shall now be getting my pan seasoned!
In case you get any dripping - just as it creates a layer on your pan, it would create a layer in the oven. Would be ridiculously difficult to clean afterwards!
New follower and I line your content, I picked up 3 cast iron pans month ago and I’ve been nervous to season it until I watched you sir, it worked so good, thank you thank you thank you 🥰
This video deserves so much more attention and likes I don't even own any cast iron but I feel like I could binge watch a tv series of you telling me what to do with cast iron skillets

@@BlackTieKitchen My skillet has a 2 inch depth, with that, 'wind' comes at an angle, attempts to fly will only flutter hahaha! Next round, I'll attempt a flip!
Quick and to the point, unlike most videos out there on cast iron skillets. Just bought one at target and needed to know what to do before I start using it. Sadly, it can't be used right away like I was hoping to. Had to order take out instead and gotta season the skillet to be able to use tmrw.
Good luck! It will take some time before it has that esteemed nonstick quality, but the more you use it, the better it will become, and the more you will fall in love with it. Thanks for watching!
I know they have two lines - their regular and then another that has a few extra layers of seasoning. Let me know how it goes! Im curious about that second line's seasoning
Yes! The lodge that come preseasoned are only 'preseasoned' so that they dont rust. They DO have another line thats supposedly already seasoned for cooking (havent tried them though). If you have a high end cast iron pan from a small company, it's likely seasoned and ready for cooking!
So after all that conditioning, do you just not wash it anymore after using? Or you do? Do you not need to season it anymore after that even after washing? Or do you do this annually or something?
You can wash it with hot water (and soap if necessary), then reheat it to get rid of any moisture and hit it with a quick light coat of oil on the inside!
My sister got me a 14" cast iron skillet from Amazon and it weighs a good 10-15 lbs! But a followed your 4 step process to the letter, working throughout the day, and it turned out beautiful. I can now spatchcock a whole roaster chicken along with vegs around the side...first on stove top then oven. Thank you so much for a great tutorial.
I just got my pan today and pulled this video up and after watching this I know I'm getting old because seeing the 1 hour process being repeated 3 times all I can think is...my gas bill
No need! They all get the same treatment! Being scared of screwing it up is natural. Just go through the process and you'll see for yourself that it's not as bad as we think it's going to be. And worst case scenario - you can always start over because at the end of the day, it's literally just iron. There's nothing special about it! Trust me, just go through the process. Ive helped a few people who were TERRIFIED and are now glad they did it because they use their cast iron pans for EVERYTHING! If you need help, let me know!
so how long can a skillet stay seasoned while not being used? does a seasoning have an expiration time period? I seasoned mine but it has gone unused for about 4 months now.
Depends. Sometimes the fat can go rancid if it has been too long. Youd have to inspect it - it could probably use a fresh layer or two. Might need to be stripped and reseasoned though - really dependa on the conditions its been stored in.
hi!! awesome video! m about to buy my first cast iron, its factory preseasoned.Shall i start to season it?or do i strip the the factory preseasoning and start a new seasoning?thanks!!!
Start with the factory seasoning! Just give it a good light wash with soap and water. Those seasonings arent bad, but theyre not sufficient - theyre really there to protect the pan from rusting!
@@BlackTieKitchen someone told me that the seasoning i will do it cannot get through the pores of iron cast if it is preseasoned!thats a myth right?? thanks mate!!!you are great
Eh, it doesn't really matter. Your'e creating layers of thin polymers when you season a pan. Every pan Ive seasoned or helped season was "pre-seasoned" and they all work wonderful without having stripped the "pre-seasoning." If there's one thing you learn about cast iron, it's that, everyone has their opinion on "the right way to season a cast iron pan." And based on science, it really doesnt matter.
