    At about 10:10 a Type VI engine is shown and is identified as a "patrol." . Earlier an L.A. City FD patrol was shown with a "live reel" or "hard line" hose reel in the back of a standard pickup bed. Most county fire departments with wildland in their jurisdiction use Type VI engines for patrols. The U.S. Forest Service uses Type VII engines for patrols, which can have as few as 50 gallons. This is due to the amount of driving they do as they actually are driven on patrol on a frequent basis and are always staffed. Patrols in county/municipal departments are sort of reserve units, which are staffed by off duty firefighters during periods of elevated fire danger.

      In my experience, most of it wildland, with just a small amount of structural on a volunteer fire department, the term "alarms" is used more in the eastern U.S. than in the west. In the west the term is used by structural fire departments about 95% of the time, with just a few wildland departments using it. Generally those wildland agencies don't use it past 2nd alarm. On wildland fires a Type V or Type IV incident commander (IC) might request a Type III incident management team respond to take the fire over. A wildland IC might start ordering a specific number and type of air tankers or helicopters, air attack, engine strike teams, crews, water tenders and dozers. The IC may also order up a specific number or more likely, strike teams of structural protection engines. Topography, fuels, proximity to development, vegetation type and access are so varied that listing the types and numbers of resources responding on each formal declaration of an alarm level does not work. The manner resources are ordered on an incident are such that a month long wildland fire might have 214 alarms.
      Even major cites in the west do not structure their responses around a level of alarms. The Los Angeles (city) Fire Department has specified responses for different types of incidents, i.e. traffic collision, residential fire, commercial fire, aircraft crash, etc. Once an incident commander is on scene additional ordering is done by requesting specific resources. For example, on a residential fire, you might hear the IC state, "respond two additional task forces (one engine and one ladder truck and engine combination)" 1 light force (truck and engine combination), 2 chief officers (to be division supervisors), a safety officer, etc. At no time will you hear an IC state "respond a second alarm."
      Fires are rarely reported by the media, in an effort to indicate the seriousness of an incident, that it was a "five alarm fire." I notice that eastern U.S. fires are often reported this way. A few times, while working as a fire information officer on a wildland fire, I was asked by a reporter, how many alarms the fire was. I would respond with how many engines, crews, dozers, aircraft, etc. currently assigned. A couple of times I would then ask the reporter where, east of the Mississippi River, he grew up. The replies were "how did you know?"

      Huh! Well, first of all they're called bushfires, not wildfires(at least we call them bushfires in Australia). Also this is nothing compared to Aussie fires. Once there was a bushfire so bad that the sky was all orange in Sydney, which is a good few kms away from the actual bush. There's also an exhibit in the Australian National Museum in Canberra on the 2003 ACT fires which has the spoke of a fire truck wheel-the rest had been burnt away in the bushfire. So yup, this is like a campfire compared to what we get in Australia.

    • @EnjoyFirefighting
      @EnjoyFirefighting 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I know that situation as well, but somehow it seems like you are still lucky extremly often. When I'm on a film tour I use all the (legal) sources of information and knowledge on the specific stations, apparatus housed there and the most likely routes they choose, traffic reports, webcams and so on, but quite often I leave the place without having filmed anything (or with just one video of a normal, boring ambulance)

    • @CobraEmergencyNorthAmerica
      @CobraEmergencyNorthAmerica  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I mean the majority of my trips are like that if I go and wait outside a station. Usually worth waiting at intersections, or waiting outside a station and then responding to any calls.

    • @EnjoyFirefighting
      @EnjoyFirefighting 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Topday was one of the days: all I filmed in our state's capital city was two times the same emergency doctor car ... while heading into the city I passed the scene of an accident with e.g. the Truck Crane from the FD and some special operations trucks from the public transport authority on scene ... shit happens ^^
      Idk why, but this year I wasn't really successfull with filming at stations and intersections

    There are strike teams and task forces. Strike teams are groupings of the same kind and type of resource, such as 5 Type I engines and a strike team leader in their own vehicle. Crew strike teams have 2 crews and dozer strike teams are 2 as well. Task forces are groupings of resources put together for a specific purpose. For example a task force might be put together to prepare and protect a large commercial structure in advance of a wildfire. So there might be 7 Type I (structural) engines, 2 ladder trucks, 3 crews (to dispose of brush cleared on the fire side of a dozer line), 2 chippers, 4 Type III (wildland) and engines, 4 dump trucks from public works to haul off the material from the chipper and two police officers to direct traffic at the intersection at the entrance to the subdivision. It is supervised by a "task force leader." Task forces are usually formed at the incident to fit a specific set of circumstances. Strike teams are almost always formed prior to its response.
    Thus there isn't an entity called a "strike force." For more information see this basic ICS information:
    training.fema.gov/emiweb/is/icsresource/assets/reviewmaterials.pdf

    • @CobraEmergencyNorthAmerica
      @CobraEmergencyNorthAmerica  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Quite right you are. I've corrected and updated the description.
      Thank you for clarifying that for me. Strike teams, are teams of the same kind of resource lead by the team leader. And a task force can be a mixed resource group for a specific task; like you said structural protection in advance of a wildfire.

    • @wannabetowasabe
      @wannabetowasabe 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CobraEmergencyNorthAmerica Strike teams not only have to be the same kind (engines, dozers, crews), but have to be the same type. Type refers to the size and capacity or training level of the resource. Type I engines are triple combination structural engines, Type II are a combination structural, wildland engine and Type III engines have the highest pumping capacity of all the wildland engines. A Type I crew is an national Interagency Hotshot Crew or a California inmate crew (not recognized nationally), a Type 2IA (IA means initial attack) less training and experience than Type I's, but has sufficient levels of both and squad bosses so that the crew can be split up. A Type 2 crew has even less training and experience without squad bosses and has to stay together. So the same Kind and Type constitute a strike team. If these don't match it can't be a strike team.

    0:52 Best emergency response ever! But maybe bomb detective and bomb squad beat it by a bit.
    1:15 is that an impersonator? Doesn’t look like a cop even tough it says CA EXEMPT. You can buy all those lights for a good price on alibaba.
    0:00 odd siren tone.
    0:07 is that horn the supervisor car?
    0:38 C O B R A C O N T R O L S T H E H O R N
    2:12 too much W/D if you ask me the Tahoe with lights on All sides looks sick though and I like that snazzy wind down tone.
    2:24 sick convoy. But why takedowns?
    4:57 M I S S I O N A C C O M P L I S H
    E D
    1:26 THAT SOUND AGAIN REE MISSION ACCOMPLISHED WHY COBRA WHY
    5:57 Do me see green? Plus what’s palasades patrol anyways?

    2:58 I don’t see any steady red to the front on that white Toyota. Home made light setup? Not to Vehicle Code for an emergency vehicle unless the laws changed.
    I remember back when I worked for Goodhew (later MedTrans then AMR) our Redonda Beach competitor was McCormick. Now they have the Malibu contract?
    My last assignment in ‘99 was on the Malibu unit for AMR. It was like being in a CHiPs episode. Helicopter calls in the mountains, trucks over a cliff, surfers with broken necks, crashes on PCH. People didn’t call for a broken finger or a headache in Malibu like they did in West Hollywood or Compton. 911 was rarely used in Malibu unless they had a good reason. It was a fun assignment.

      If it is an LED light, their "steady" rate with certain video equipment makes it look like it is flashing. I see that more and more in these types of videos with the new LED lights. It is steady to the naked eye, but "flashing" to the video camera.
