      "Can't wait for people to try to sell their clapped R1s for $27,000 on CL and say its a "collector's item" " Erm, you might not be old enough to remember when people used to say that about Kawasaki H2 Mach IV 750cc triple 2 strokes....& yet that's what actually happened,! Now you can't touch an unmolested one for less than $10,000.

      @@nonyabusiness4151If BMW, KTM, Aprilia, Ducati and other European manufacturers are capable of meeting Euro 5 you have to question why Yamaha aren't. They've been losing bigly in racing over recent years so maybe they now know they're way down the list of great race bike manufacturers. You rarely see them on the streets. Everyone wants to ride a winner and that's not a Yamaha.

      @captainwin6333 Note: The inline 4 has a harder time meeting emissions than a V4. Inline 4 takes sweeping corners in a grid of bikes, taking V corners.
      EU needs to be scrapped.
      It's funny that European manufacturers have no problem altering their machinery to meet the Elites requirements, but you didn't bother to mention any other companies...
      Frankly, I don't care. R1 is a legend of a bike and just another thing on a long list that the government has taken from the people.

      @@captainwin6333it's a high revving inline 4 problem. KTM is using a big twin, Ducati and Aprilia V fours. This was even quoted as a big driver in the push for twins over the last decade, they're cheaper to build and easier(this cheaper) to meet environmental regulations with.

    I saw this coming a decade ago. Not just for the R1 but superbikes in general. I started riding in 1992 on an FZR 600. At that time you could get a top of the line 1000cc "monster" for about $6999. While still a lot of money it was within reach of us late teens early to mid 20's guys. When you start making your sportbikes only affordable to people who either get one and struggle to pay their bills or established older riders with great jobs what do you expect to happen to your sales? These bikes are designed for and flogged by 20-30 year olds and I don't know about you but 75% of this age group can't afford much more than the bare essentials let alone to toss out $25,000-$35,000 for a toy. Chevy did the same thing with the Camero. It was designed to be the young mans affordable Corvette. Now it's the same price or more expensive and they wonder why their target market doesn't buy them like they used too. I feel they should cut back on the the electronic B.S. and make them like they used to. Simple, fast, and affordable to the market that wants them. Fu$% the modes that 99% of people never use. Go with simple yet decent suspension that can be upgraded by the user. There is so much "Oh look at me I'm shiney and techy" on new bikes that is just stupid fluff that doesn't need to be there other than to add cost. Get back to what made the class great and stop fluffing them up with BS nobody needs on the street. Just my $.02.

      Well said and I agree 100%.
      This goes not just for bikes, or liter bikes for that matter, but for all vehicles. Every car is built like a mobile super computer. The options for cheap and simple vehicles without extraneous electronics decreases every year.
      This is bad for young customers and anyone who just wants a simple mode of transportation and doesn't care to drop 10s of thousands for additional fluff they will never use.
      I hope we get back to simple manufacturing in the near future. Hopefully we do with price pressure of materials. But looking at the ridiculous regulations and requirements from governments and the EV dream(nightmare), the more likely outcome is many normal people are permanently priced out of vehicle ownership.
      The more cynical part of me thinks that may be by design.

    • @GoldenEagleXTND
      @GoldenEagleXTND 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's all about safety and emissions regulations. Sadly the government doe snot want you to own or enjoy anything. Their stated creed is "you will own nothing and you will be happy". They are currently pushing for electronic nanny speed governors that will actively respond to you speeding with some tactile warning, then if you continue to speed, it will forcibly drop your vehicle to the speed limit no matter what you do to it.
      We would need a government, both in Congress and in the White House to essentially gut the tiered "fleet percentage" emissions standards that they've slowly been implementing so as to not shock the people into noticing too much.

    • @0202pmurT
      @0202pmurT 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      A lot of the electronics stuff is about emissions compliance. If you know everyone's just going to put your bike in sport mode all the time anyways you can make it pass emissions tests in gimped mode - and as long as that's a user visible switch and not a hidden "test cheater" toggle, they can't punish you for it.

Or else it will be your garage bike cause you wont be able to use its full power and you might feel tired of the heating engine mid traffic. countries in development mostly have commuter bikes cause ppl cant afford to have more than one bike, or buying bikes just for fun. Ppl who can afford to have a car easily, or other bikes, they can buy bikes just for fun.

I sold them because those bikes are just highway bikes, just boring, missing out the whole world. Now I go on adventures on z125 all the time and have so many adventures planned for it. The XSR900, I have only ridden it on power level 1 only once out of the 4 power modes. If I was to recommend a bike would be Honda CRF250 to 300 CC L/S Rally etc - dual sport.

    Never tried an R1, but I have a Tracer 9 (CP3 engine), there's no way that could keep up with an R1.
    An R9 with a CP3 isn't really a replacement for an R1, it would probably be as fast as an R6, but with more power on lower RPMs.

    I've been saying for years that Yamaha should make a fully-faired version of the MT-10 and have it go up against the Kawasaki Ninja 1000 and Suzuki GSX-S1000GT. Keep in mind the Ninja 1000 is nothing more than a Z1000 naked bike with fairings. The MT-10 replaced the FZ1. Both generations of the FZ1 had optional full lowers that, when installed, made the bike look like a sport bike and not a naked bike. The MT-10 puts out 168 bhp. With headers, the right slip-on, and a reflash, you'd now be approaching 180 bhp. And since the powerplant is a detuned version of a previous generation R1, maybe there are some go-fast goodies still available that the right person can properly install.

    Suberbikes are de-evolving. We are back to the 90's with powerfugures with these twins and triples. The 900RR is what we are back to. As long as you have all these gadgets nobody cares. I remember when the GSXR750 came out and blew us away! I've been devastated for years now and I'm holding on to my S1000RR which is getting old but right where I want it to be and still is spectacular in my eyes. R.I.P R6 it will never be forgotten as one of the best Supersports I've ever had the pleasure to experience. The world is just not the same! Over here in the UK, where in the late 90's and 2000's the 1000cc sports bike out sold everything, along with the rest Europe the writing has been on the wall for some time now, the past 15 years at least. They have been a product of their own demise as the arms race between manufacturers has pushed power to 200bhp and more they have become almost pointless as a road bike and almost no one is buying them. The old saying, its more fun to ride a slower bike fast than a faster bike slow has never been so true as very few can actually use all a 1000cc sports bike, even on a track, and to try on the road is almost suicide. Sure its a sad day, I still own an early R1, but if they can't sell them in numbers why make them.

      I was lucky enough to buy a new bike two years back and I went for the super duke, as even my rsv1000rr twin had me well over the motorway speed limit on my way to work. The ktm is so much fun, but it stops me from sitting at three figures as there is no wind protection. I have some soft luggage for it and the full akra system/mapping, so it is pretty close to 190bhp and tons of torque to play with. It makes me giggle like a child every time I ride it. This year I am going to be tracking it alongside the RSV. I would love a 1000 IL4, but there are more and more average cameras everywhere and the standard of driving of everyone in a box seems to be going downhill.
