Bringing back memories, as I had a 99 one in blue..I should of never sold it..super smooth on those 40mm carbs..👌..and plenty fast enough for the road.. going up in value now i can see why he's doing a overhaul on it...hope it goes well..💪👍👍
Love your vids jim. Ive been telling the boys abt them. Very interesting. Even the waffles talking pish explainin thing 😂 ano there quite a pain to make when your busy, but great job pal....I was waiting for the compressor to kick in
Looking good this resto. Can't wait to see the forks stripped and re build. Hope you ain't got a sware jar for new year coz I think it will be full very soon.lol.
Fck yeah! Superbikes! The R1 got me into riding. My neighbor had a blue one back when i was 13. It impressed me so much. But i grew towards italian bikes mostly.
I have an 02-03 5PW R1 and i have removed the fork bottoms, the grub screw was actually the worst part. I needed to drill them out but didn't and snapped a torx inside it and ruined the bottom, had to replace them after finding a set luckily. Unscrewing the stanchion was piss easy, plenty heat on the bottom and using a fork clamp tool in the holes, undid the stanchion like it was brand new and not even loctite touched!.
Ok, the key to removing the stanchions from the lower castings is HEAT. You’ve got to melt the loctite on the threaded portion, also holding the stanchion firmly is fun too, there are a few methods you can use, but Jim will know exactly how to go about this. Not his first rodeo 😂
Ooooooh! I'm not looking at the bike 'cos I'm appreciating the spectacular hand theatre with those lovely turquise rubber gloves 🤣.. Back to the vid.....
Looking at that water pump I'm thinking the coolant galleries are going to need some serious flushing through with another one of Jims secret formulas.
Those Chinese rads are surprisingly well built, dimensions are not always perfect but very close, close enough for there to be no installation issues. I fitted one to my ZX9r in 2023 when I done head gasket valve clearances etc as the original had seen better days.
@@redpoll4628 Many good parts and bikes are or have been made in China, many bad ones too, people especially from certain generation seem to only know of/remember the bad stuff.
Hiya Jim, new subscriber here!! watch your stuff most nights. It's not "wafflage" Jim, it's called thinking out loud mate, and great for us to listen to your chain of thought. You Got Pigeons Jim ?? Alan From Warrington.
Hi I have been working in engine test labs since the 80s and while silicone hoses look good when first fitted and the kits are competitively priced I would avoid them as they seem to deteriorate quite quickly like 2 or three years. I have found that OEM hoses last the longest and are less likely to fail my gpz900r still has two of the original hoses in good condition and still supple not hard or floppy. Any way crack on its your show and your choice keep up the good work
Jim doing his best impression of an ol' timey drunken sailor after being kicked out the pub for being too rowdy so he curses everyone and their dog in the village... Looking forward to this
Heat up the lower castings at the threaded area to 100deg C for a few minutes. ( this is why Jim is going to cerakote the castings) Weld a flat plate to either side of the chromed tube and hold firmly in a large vice. Use a 1 meter or longer length of steel tube placed through the axle hole of the lower casting and proceed to unscrew the lower piece. Easy as that, done it many times with no problems.
I really think you are the male version of my wife. Allergic to the sound of styrofoam and swearing like an old sailor 😂😂 I love watching, please keep up the good work 👍
I am more used to larger engines, Dose this yamaha have wet iron liners or dry liners because if it has had water without a corrosion inhibitor the liners could have suffered badly. I assume these questions because I don't know and your awnsers will be informative to us minions
Hmmm… using profanities on a constant basis only reveals the users’ lack of vocabulary. Yes, there’s a lot of dumbed down and poorly cultured people about 🥹
The owner must be seriously attached to that bike. He's going to need deep pockets. I can't see it could make financial sense. Will make a good video series though!
No Coolant, means NO ethylene Glycol. In which is understandable for a race bike, as you don,t want Glycol spillage on the track. I have heard that race bikes drain their coolant(water) after use and refilled b4 the next race.
My 2001 5jj was blue now red! And has the same end can And is in pretty much the same condition. Not rode it for two years coz of illness and then u fking lez. How much is this going to cost 😢
Looking forward to this one!!
I look forward to all Jim's videos.
Love your moniker by the way, I've read all the books. 👍
It wouldn't be like you to swear Jim 😂😂😂
Proof that "one owner from new" isn't necessarily a good thing. Holy shit, that thing's lived a life and a half!
Probably the best bike tech out there
Hey! Don’t forget our Del, he deserves a prize too 😂
If Carlsberg did bike techs 😊
Mammoth of a job😊 till the next episode
Customer’s requested it to be completed by the weekend, no pressure 😅
Can’t wait to see the progress! Always fancied an early R1
Having rebuilt a couple vehicles myself, I am looking forward towards this one
Big job , good luck Jim.
Professional suspension guys are worth their weight in gold.
Yes but they get aid peanuts for the skills and time it takes, not to mention how messy it is rebuilding shocks and forks.
I have a 2001 I'm working on. This will be a good set of videos. Enjoying the content very much
Been re-building a 99 R1 the last few months, All finished now 👌 Can’t wait for Part 2
There's a special place in my ❤ for a red 5jj was the first 1000cc bike I owned

Keen to see how this one develops Jim. Praying for you on those stanchions 😂 it’s comforting to hear you say that and it wasn’t just me.
Love your videos, always informative and very worth watching - cheers mate 👍🏻🍻

Is there anything more satisfying than opening and unpacking a box of motorcycle parts?
The first ride home from the dealers on a brand new bike for me.
Ooh!!! Can't wait for the next part!!!
Love a restoration with all new bits and paint
Gunna love this one, always a soft spot for the R1
Brilliant channel and this one could be a can of worms.
Yep - gonna be a good one this 👍
Really looking forward to these parts (2,3,4 etc???)😄
Just love this channel, this is gonna be good, didn't see any fork handles😂😂
I do love those R1s , ive had a few in my time 👍🏻👍🏻🇬🇧

Another great vid, lots of box opening, must take ages with a long list for this project, looking forward to the follow-up awesome
Brilliant Jim what a channel the best thank you 👍
Arrgggh! And you're making us wait a whole week to the next? Absolutely evil!

Work it may, shine it must🙂.

Been wondering what they were for ages. Just ordered some on the back of this...
This is going to be a good one 👍 dont you just love that polystyrene 😂

TRAIN of thought! 😂😂😂
awesome
🏍️ Haven't watched a "unboxing" vidoe for a while 😅

That's a 2nd generation 2000 model👍Be interested in the source for the radiator👍

Tried removing stancions from fork bottoms. A nightmare! Hope to learn some new tricks here....😊

Quite teh project :)
I really think you are the male version of my wife. Allergic to the sound of styrofoam and swearing like an old sailor 😂😂

Let’s hope that Second gear is still hanging in there 😂
Probably owners heart is deciding more that his reason. as this task, it ain't gonna be economical, that's for sure!

"It was blue, now red." Sounds like the Government.
There's something to be said about owning an air cooled engine from the start, no such coolant leaks or expensive rads to replace.
nice
love the language sounds like me
Hmmm… using profanities on a constant basis only reveals the users’ lack of vocabulary.
Yes, there’s a lot of dumbed down and poorly cultured people about 🥹
The coolant pipes on my FZs1000 rotted out, I repaired them with jb weld and new o rings.
Who does your cerakote ?.
0:14 - Yeah, it's neither. 😄
Aftermarket radiators question 🙋♂️
What could you recommend ? I need one for my Gsxr
Don’t want to buy a rubbish, neither want to pay £2k
Been looked after then
I would check and lubricate the swinging arm linkage ????
Are you asking Jim or yourself? 😂
Should be a good watch, plenty to go at. Just hope the gearbox hasn't shit its self....
The owner must be seriously attached to that bike. He's going to need deep pockets.
I can't see it could make financial sense.

What’s the date stamp on the tyres?

please show the fork bottom swop
Because it is an old bike it will pour out liquids so I would say a new bladder, I am old and do the same even in the super market. New bladder Jim.
I dread to think how much this is going to end up costing....... probably as much as a cheap r1 😂
Big job, lots of rust and corrosion = lots of f-bombs and the odd rabbit hole, what's not to like?😅
I hope you had a good cash deposit before buying all those parts.
My 2001 5jj was blue now red! And has the same end can And is in pretty much the same condition. Not rode it for two years coz of illness and then u fking lez. How much is this going to cost 😢
Yes, I did such a fork bottom removal job: th-cam.com/video/DKj0EdQrfug/w-d-xo.html
Don't generally comment on videos but whoever owns this bike should be feckin ashamed to let it get this bad. And it's been round a track. 🥴
