There's a video of Anna running a sub 30 minute 5K in real time. It was the first video I've ever watched in this channel and it also inspired me for my first run. It literally changed my life. Thank you Anna and TRC!
This series of videos with Anna could very well be the most important the channel has done. Great to see her back and taking us through the return to running. 👏👏👏
I'm currently 37 weeks pregnant and haven't been able to run for most of it. I am already anticipating my first run back in a few months and I get emotional thinking about it! This was such a well-timed and inspiring video. Thanks, Anna! And congratulations on your baby girl and well done on easing sensibly back into running :).
I can absolutely relate to that! I’m currently 36 weeks and trying to have a rough plan on how I would get back to running. Perfectly timed video indeed.
Wonderful to see Anna back. She’s always been an inspiration throughout her time on TRC and a most welcome return. Sure she’ll be doing an ultra within a very short period of time!!
Congratulations. I went from an avid walker, but never a runner, to incorporating running post-partum. I started walking, then picking a point to run to, then walking again. A lot more walking than running initially. I lost 25 kg in the first year or so, and then went on to run a 5 K event, followed by a 10 K event. My child is now 18 years old, but I still enjoy running.
So happy to see you back. I’ve been looking forward to this video! I tend to run with a big smile, and can really relate to that feeling of joy when you can do the first run after not being able to for any reason. I try to remember that feeling when running gets hard, to appreciate being able to run
Congratulations, Anna on your baby! I hope being a mum has been a blessing. I Know there are challenges along with lots of smiles and milestones. These days are so precious as they go quicker than it seems right now. I know what it feels like to have an emergency c-section. A lot of mums feel like our bodies feel foreign. It will take time to adjust.
YES!! Anna, you are a hero and inspiration to me! I have been rewatching all your old videos while hoping and waiting for your return to the channel. C-section recovery is brutal, and you are absolutely smashing it. Congratulations on your sweet bub ❤❤❤
I donated a kidney in May 2024, which has been described to me as similar type of surgery to a c-section (don’t have kids so can’t compare!) I think I have been very lucky in my recovery, I started running again about 5 weeks post surgery, did a 50 mile trail ultra in October with no issues and I am currently working with a coach to get my pace back up for a spring marathon. Lots of ultras planned for next year too!
It's so great to have you back, Anna! I'm 32 weeks into pregnancy with baby 2 and after baby 1, I really did go back to running - never managed to be as fast as I once was but did some really decent mountain runs before pregnancy 2 started! My main problem was - and remains - the mum guilt factor, and this only gets worse when you have a very possessive 3-year-old who quite literally attacks his dad whenever I try to go for a bit of 'me time'. Dad is an absolute saint through it all but it's hard to be the meanie and say 'no, mummy needs her exercise or she'll be a raging dragon' and the feel-good endorphins from the run itself are definitely a bit dampened by this. Any tips for managing that side of it from Anna or anyone much appreciated!
I pushed myself way too hard too soon after my first baby, and unfortunately, my body really rebelled. I felt as though I needed to be able to get back to where I was pre-baby within a few weeks, but my body had other ideas :). What followed was years of injuries, stops and starts, another baby, and more injuries. After an Achilles tendinitis injury that took me out for a year, I decided I needed to treat myself like a beginner and start anew. It was humbling, to say the least-especially since I was now in my late 40s vs. my early 30s when I first got into running. But…”starting over” gave me a chance to do things the proper way this time: to discover my easy run pace, to dedicate myself to foundational strength training, to learn how to fuel and hydrate correctly. While my progress has been slower than I’d like, I am seeing progress, and I’m not giving up! My goal is to run for the rest of my life (fingers crossed), so I’ve got time to work on it :).
Anna, my son is now 8 months old and was also delivered via emergency c-section. Getting back into running has had lots of ups and downs. Thank you for sharing your journey. You’ve been an inspiration to me personally for years and even more so now! ❤
I love this! I had postpartum depression, which made it hard when I had my babies. I need to get back out there now, but it’s hard when it’s -9 degrees out!
Welcome back Anna!! That absolute joy at running your first minute of running is amazing! I had major abdominal surgery almost 11 weeks ago , started c25k at 8 weeks post op with my consultants blessing. This weekend, I managed the run my whole parkrun at a comfortable pace. I ran up to 2 days before the op and was outside walking from 3 days post op. I had the benefit of being able to get lots of rest and concentrate solely on myself - not so easy with a baby!
So glad to see my favorite runner back at it. Spent 2023 recovering from surgery after a bike wreck and I can relate to this. Thanks for being so honest and sharing with us. This little girl has a hero for a Mom.
Lovely to see you back Anna. I’m currently 5 weeks PP with my 2nd and dying to get running again. Also C-section so won’t be anytime soon, but I will bring some swimming into my week after watching this.
Sorry Anna, Ralph took over the video! Amazing Anna, as a man I have no idea how women can go through the massive thing of pregnancy and child birth and come back to running even stronger, full of admiration for you and all other parents.
Welcome back Anna! I've come back from injury and surgery and a recognised that expression of joy of getting out for that first run/walk session. Instant euphoria.
Awesome to see Anna again! We missed you A LOT! Thank you for a great video! Its the best time for you - enjoying being a new Mom and the joys of running! Looking forward to more videos; when time and the family allows it! Love the PB PB statement!
Well done Anna - I’m just getting back to running after 4 months out with an avulsion fracture on my heel. The first run/walk felt amazing and I’ve built up very gradually to 2 miles running. Tomorrow is a 4 miler - it’s amazing how much you miss it!
Anna is back! It’s so lovely to see you here on the channel again. You are so right about how important it is to do something for yourself. Such a wonderful approach to your return to running. Can you tell by the comments, you have been missed! ❤
Wow Anna, good to see you running again- you look so happy! I always enjoyed your presentations on running- hope to see more of you again!!! All the best!!❤
Congratulations on your baby girl Anna. I also had an emergency section and and elective for my second baby, totally relate to your own body feeling a bit alien. Would love to get back to running but find it so hard with 2 under 2
I used walk-run to get back into running after my third pregnancy - i had kept reasonably fit throughout but my body was still pretty wrecked. Cycling for cross-training really helped. It's hard and slow but definitely rewarding once you put the time in. I used a running buggy for a few years - just make sure it's naptime or you have plenty of snacks for kiddo!
Congratulations Anna!! My partner has had 2 emergency c sections but she accompanied me to Chicago marathon last year (sans kids) and she managed the Saturday 5k and ran the whole way! It’s difficult but it’s a bloody good journey!
Yay Anna!! Congratulations. For all 3 babies I wrote my first run after baby on the calendar to save for all time, as those were very important runs and meaningful to me. In the US when I had my last baby (not that long ago!) the recommendation was waiting 6 weeks before running. I ran exactly then, but it was wonky haha. You are so wise to do it how you did (and UK health is more wise too!). I'm glad you are finding some time for yourself and hope you are being so gentle and kind with yourself since having time with a baby is nearly impossible haha.
Welcome back!! Congratulations! I can really relate; I had emergency c-sections on both my daughters. It takes time for your body to feel "your own" again. Enjoy your runs!!
Fantastic work Anna! I'm in my 50s, so "personal best" has to be relative these days, but since cancer treatment last year, everything I do is relative to a "PTPB" - Post Treatment Personal Best. It's a mindset, but it works for me. As for your youthful self, there's no reason why the PBPBs can't become real PBs for you - just look at what Rick has achieved. (Did you know he's had knee surgery? 🤣) Keep enjoying the running - when are you going on the pod?
There's a video of Anna running a sub 30 minute 5K in real time. It was the first video I've ever watched in this channel and it also inspired me for my first run. It literally changed my life. Thank you Anna and TRC!
Amazing!! We're so glad you found it so inspiring
Same here. That was inspiration to run my first sub 30 5k and I did. So glad she's back ‼️
Me too! I liked this video a lot when I started running and was hopeful to get sub 30 it helped!
This series of videos with Anna could very well be the most important the channel has done. Great to see her back and taking us through the return to running. 👏👏👏
@@ianjames3078 i totally agree! She is so inspiring!
Anna, I hope you read all of the positive comments and feel the love that we have for you. We're so glad that you're back. We have missed you.
Thank you 🙏🏼 my heart is brimming with joy with all the lovely comments ❤
Soooo lovely to see Anna back - she’s one of the OG reasons why so many of us love the running channel ❤
Anna is back!🎉🎉 Glad to see you back! The video is amazing.
Great to see Anna back on TRC!
That marathon in the backyard is still the sickest thing ever. Nice to see you back, Anna.
So good to see Anna back!
Anna! You’re back! ❤️
So happy your back!! You were missed! Congrats
The back garden marathon was how I found this channel back in 2020!
Amazing!! How is your running going now?
I love the joy in your face when you're back to running - so nice to have you back!

I am so glad to see Anna back! Anna and Rick were the first presenters who got me to love this channel which was about five years ago
And Kate.
Wonderful to see Anna back. She’s always been an inspiration throughout her time on TRC and a most welcome return.

AAAAAHHHHH im so happy you are back!!
Even though my (non-emergency, but also not selective) C-section was over 4,5 years ago, this video makes me so happy to see! You go, Anna!!
I love this! I had postpartum depression, which made it hard when I had my babies. I need to get back out there now, but it’s hard when it’s -9 degrees out!

Welcome back :) happy running mum. Most valuable thought: Focus on what you can do and not on what you can't (or shouldn't).
