Here is a challenge suggestion, each of you take an average established runner and train them using the techniques you demo. The winner would be the one whose student has the most improved time on a 5 or 10K. It would be a great series
@@runningchannel When I say average runner, I mean someone like myself.. I'm a 1:05-1:10 10K runner.. Take someone like me and get me to run a sub 60 10K? Just an example :)
I know the big reveal of the winner is supposed to be at the end but I actually think it would be more fun if there was a live graphic at the bottom showing where each runner is during the video so we can tell how far off they are when they are talking to the camera 😂
I totally feel for James running the marathon in lockdown. I ran a half marathon in my quarantine hotel room in Sydney (14 days solitary confinement). It was 8m from door to window so I ran backwards and forwards 2600-2700 times. I did get a little dizzy. It took me 2 and a half hours and I live-streamed the entire thing to entertain others in a facebook group who were also similarly detained... and posted a time-lapse compression of the whole event for others to enjoy! 🤣 For what its worth I think the step counting method was the right way to go. Jess just got VERY lucky
The 1 rule was no looking at watches and Jess broke it! Even if she was stopping an emergency contact, she would've seen her distance and time first. James is the real winner!
If it's the emergency feature from Garmin, that takes over the entire screen if it's active. You press a button to dismiss it and then it goes back to the activity. So she could have seen her screen right after pressing the button, but she also could have pressed the button while looking away from the watch. Depends on if you believe her or not on that one.
I have a challenge for you. You all run the same 10k on a trail (with elevation changes). The only info you get is when your watch indicates the end. So no time, pace distance etc. The winner is the one that is in zone 2 for the most percentage of the run. This should be done alone so no pacing of other participants. Run only by feel.
The real challenge was not looking at a clock or a watch. James’ clicker was hilarious and I wanted him to win so much. Sarah I feel your pain, I think I’d run way over too. Well done 🤩
Love these challenges. Next challenge. On running track. Who can walk nearest to 100m, blindfolded. Bonus points for the one who stays in lane or even on the track.
3 things, This channel is definitely entertaining to watch, turning the simplest of challenges into something I want to keep watching. Secondly it helped me over 12 months ago to get back into running after a few years off..... And lastly, I love the fact the hosts are normal people, sure an elite athlete could start a channel with crazy workouts beyond the average Joe, but the runs/challenges are what anyone could get out and give them a go. Keep up the good work, always looking forward to the next video.
Next up: Stop when you think you've hit a Marathon! Seriously I love these challenge videos. Apart from the friendly but ambitious rivalry I specifically enjoyed the editing, they went the extra mile today (10:44 it's so hot", the "bimbling" dictionary entry for us non-native speakers). Will try the 5km and the 10km challenge on one my longruns later on. Sounds good!
I would be interested to see a video where you find a professional 400m, 10k and marathon runner, get the 10k and marathon runner to attempt the 400m runner's PB, then get the 400m and the marathon runner to attempt the 10k runner's PB. (I think making the 400m and 10k runner attempt the marathoner's PB might be a bit cruel 😂and take too long). Because I'm interested to see how much specific event/distance training helps. I obviously think the 400m runner will not hit the 10k runner's PB, and the marathon won't hit the 10k runners PB etc etc, but how close can they get? What is the difference between a 400m, 10k and a marathon runner in terms of biomechanics and fitness levels?
I’ve done the home laps before and never doing them ever again. Think I did 400 laps with 800 turnarounds until I felt nauseous. Too many spins will upset the stomach like a carnival ride or roller coaster.
I’m starting my training again to run a marathon next year. Today was my first run since June of 2023 after focusing on lifting/weight gain for the last 8 months and it felt good to be moving again but I got some jiggling in places in not used to haha
Challenge Idea: Pick a distance to run - you can look at the distance throughout the run but as soon as you hit the distance you need to guess your average pace before you look at it. Try to get your guess as close as possible. Something I’ve been doing as I have no watch 😂😂.
thanks for sharing , i used to be always looking at my watch , but the last year i havent, but i still wear it , so the temptation is there lol , good video
I didn’t notice those two guys were different people. Even as they were each referring to another man, I kept thinking “when are they gonna introduce the other guy”
I think you need to do an RPE / Zones Challenge. You have a 10 min warm up followed by 3 lots of 10 minute efforts where you have to step through Zone 2, 3, 4 (easy, moderate, hard RPE) keeping your HR as much in each zone as you can. Goal of the challenge is to see who is more consistent but also to show how good each contestest can judge RPE.
Pretty sure you've done this one before but it would be interesting to see any new tactics on a progressive blind 5k - each km needs to be faster than the previous and the first one has to be at least at HM pace
Challenge idea, trail 50K run but as a relay, you decide who runs when and what distance, who runs up hill who runs down etc, how fast can you finish it?
I think you guys should try either the Netflix Physical 100 running challenge where you see how far you can run in 10 minutes on a manual treadmill Or How long you can run at the speed of Eliud Kipchoge’s speed per km! Really enjoyed this video 😅
If it's not against the rules to start the race wherever you want, meaning a known place like home, for sure an experienced runner already knows from memory some routes to run almost an exact specific distance.😀 I believe the winner here used in fact that strategy. Either that or she cheated, since the distance covered was to close to 10km to be reached with the strategy mentioned in the video.🤪
I'd like to see this, but who can get closest to burning a 1000 calories? You can hide calories on your watch (in fact I think you have to actually put it on if you want to see it) but it'd be great to see all the crazy ways the team think they would approach this.
I don't care. I was still rooting for Tom! The clicker turned out to be a very good tactic, but there is always variations in stride and speed. Jess used the Big Ben tactic, and even though there were flaws in her tactic (Traffic stops, not running at a consistent pace etc), she trusted her gut and it ended up helping her out in the end.
I know this was supposed to be a fun challenge... but I would consider using a clock as cheating. The rule is not to use a watch, so she uses a clock? Not to mention turning a blind eye at her sudden need to check her watch for notifications. Also, Sarah's tactic of running until she was hungry was doomed to fail at the outset.
1) Do the same challenge but altogether on the same track - at your own pace of course. And stop where you think 10km / 5km is. The fun part is that you will then end up trying to gauge your distance from where the others have stopped and re-think it when others run past you etc. Which would be a fun mental game. 2) Again same challenged but everyone has to run with weights. This will really throw times and paces off. 3) Run 1km then everyone has to guess the time on how long it took and the person with the closest guesses overall wins. 4) Everyone has to complete 5km at a certain time (one that is achievable by all) but you aren't allowed to wear watches so you have to guess what pace you are actually running at. 5) Run a relay race (each person runs 3 loops of a running track each) with the end goal being a certain time. You aren't allowed to wear watches so you have to try and judge how fast they were running and adjust your pace accordingly so the team reaches the end at the correct time. 6) Everyone leaves the same spot at the same time (an unknown spot to all) and run whatever direction they feel and at random time a buzzer goes off and whoever gets back first wins - but you can't run any direction more than twice. (Stops everyone just running circles / laps).
I feel like this would be easy for me. My two strategies would be going to my local park run course and doing two laps or even running on my usual route I know exactly what mileage im on based on surroundings.
Specify not looking at a clock for the next run. What Jess did was borderline cheating. I mean, I guess it was a loophole, but it makes these less fun and it is less based on tactics and listening to/ knowing your body. James "listened" to his right foot, sarah "listened" to her stomach, tom went off of vibes and jess just ran till an hour went by
I would have overshot the distance just like Sarah. I can tell she's in marathon training mode with her 13km. I wish Jess had told us what exactly she saw when she looked at her watch during the emergency notification moment. How much info and details did she see?
Can't wait until they do the "Stop When You Think You've Hit 42.195 km" video
Sarah's "when I hit Dover, I've gone too far" will be just on par then.
@@nataliamartinkova I opened comments and saw yours just as she said that line.
Yep that would be more fun.
for me it would be "die when you think you've hit 42k"
I think Jess being able to see the time on Big Ben was borderline. She even said she just ran for an hour lol.
