- The first full day of campaigning for the remaining two Conservative leadership candidates begins, following a shock result in the last ballot of MPs on Wednesday.
Kemi Badenoch and Robert Jenrick will start making their pitch to Conservative Party members on Thursday, as they go head to head in the contest to succeed Rishi Sunak as Tory leader.
James Cleverly was unexpectedly knocked out of the competition on Wednesday, having been the bookmakers’ favourite after the previous round of voting.
Julia says: "Was this shenanigans from Jenrick's team?"

Can't give a crap , still voting REFORM😊
It's a shock that shocks no one. The same bunch of complicit inepts in charge of the Tories makes FA difference to me anymore. VOTE REFORM!
Reform!
Really don't give a toss 😂😂😂
He was rubbish in the last government, why would anyone want him?
Conservatives this race is no longer even in the forefront of peoples minds. I just want someone or a party that could take control of this country as it once did. I just became a reform member. I would suggest anyone reading this. Do the same. I want real change. I don’t want the same old same old lies lies lies.
Disband the worthless party.
Looks like Cleverly's mates screwed him over........🤣🤣🤣🤣
DOES NOT MATTER.....reform the way forward !!
Cleverly needs to accept the result and support your team, no need for an angry face. It is this internal animosity that destroyed labour
Excellent... he is a traitor and began thenegotiation to lose changos
Nobody cares.
(Plus they actually want Kemi anyway, cause they gotta get that first black woman PM before Labour do. Yawn.)
Not British. Simple as
Tory HQ generally selects not very conservative candidates to tick boxes - especially the 'I'm-not-conservative' box - hence huge disparity between members (traditional, patriotic, conservative) and MPs (lefties too posh for Labour). I exaggerate, but not that much. Tory HQ have killed the party IMO. Just my opinion. (Edit: remember Cameron: we're 'too male, pale and stale', May: we're 'nasty party' etc etc)
That rather describes the GOP hierarchy but they finally got a Presidential candidate who opted to muscle the "wets" out as forming another party isn't really an option in the USA.
She wasn't even born here. What is going on?
More afraid of Reform than Labour it seems.
They're not going to merge, assuming that Jenrick is the leader, Reform will be left to take the north, Wales and Scotland, and what's left of the Tories will have the South. The north will never vote for the Tories ever again, nor will Wales and Scotland.
Employers need protection now.
Oh shut up avi
@@malcolmmitchell6529 Avi ?
Ireland is a tax haven. Most of the revenue doesn't stay in Ireland, it goes to the corporations in the US.
They were trying to act on woke dangerous stuff in schools etc
To make it Worse.
Never a shock, he’s a tool!
I've seen several complex theories involving tactical voting to explain the final shock result. As a believer in Occam's Razor (which says the most straightforward explanation is usually the correct one) I suggest an alternative. After the previous vote in which Badenoch came third, quite a few MPs took into consideration that as Kemi is the members favourite, if they failed to put her in the final two, thousands of members would be very unhappy. Could the Party really afford loads of resignations/lapsed memberships, and would they relish having to deliver most of their own leaflets at the next elections because so few members would be willing to help?
It doesn't matter who they put on top of the totum pole, its still the same people we voted out, with the same inaction . labour are going through the same process, whoever they replace starmer with they will be the same , ignoring the voters
If KB gets in I will vote reform if RJ wins I will watch him closely before making a decision. Am not racist by any means I just want British for British as I have lost all faith in those not from this country plus KB has not changed her stance on immigration or echr and if she says she will change her mind how do I know it’s not just to get the vote… RJ seems to be the only one listening to the electorate… we want nothing to do with anything that suppresses our sovereignty… sorry
Not quite so clever eh?
