      The bread hers is on looks like a Pumpernickel Bread. A traditional German Bread. OK the one Butter Knife thing is correct it is used to take the Butter and put it on what you want then returned to the Butter Dish, At which point you use your own knife to spread it. You can have one each but that just makes more washing up? Here in the U.K It is Called Mulled Wine or Spiked Wine. The first because it is Hot the second because it normally has Spices added like Cinnamon. Ei is German for Egg.

    These gingerbread hearts are not really primarily intended for consumption. They are edible but not very good. They have more of a purpose as a gift in the sense of a symbolic gesture. I would associate them with Oktoberfest rather than Christmas. Genuine Christmas gingerbread is much softer and consists of many more ingredients and therefore tastes much better.😄

    • @TanjaHermann
      @TanjaHermann 5 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Exactly, I don't think I ever ate one in my life. They keep for years, though, without changing at all. They are more of a decorative gift than food.

    We normally don't eat the gingerbread hearts. We hang them around the house or on the christmas tree at least here in the north. And the pancakes usually don't get served like that, they were definitly undercooked.

    Berlin really doesn't have the best Christmas markets but from all the ones you could choose in the city you chose the least attractive among the big ones. Next time rather start with the one at the Rote Rathaus and walk to the most popular one Unter den Linden. They are far more pretty and offer a bigger variety of christmas treats.

    If you want to see one of the best Christmas markets I've ever visited, go to Rothenburg, I live in Germany and every year I look for a new one, but this one is not so crowded, has a nice atmosphere and a beautiful historic city... There are also many pubs with good beer and traditinal food! ;D 9/10

    Guys you have to check out Silo in Berlin. Their coffee and breakfast is out of this world they have an avocado toast with eggs, bacon, feta, some kind of home made herb sauce... It is honestly incredible. Also try house of small wonder it is so unique and has amazing cake/food and iced tea and coffee - great place to get photos of too as it is really cool inside.

    if you are still in Berlin, check out Monsieur Vuong for cheap but very tasty Vietnamese food (but get there early, as it's popular and can get crowded).

    That toboggan thing remind me of a similar thing at a fair (Nottingham Goose fair actually), an undulating one, it had been raining so me an the young lads I was with were offered free rides to help dry it off, hence it was super fast and we did go flying into the barrier at the end, also on the undulating bit we were flying from bump to bump. We were a rather tough looking bunch so I guess they though we would be up for it and would not get hurt, nor sue if we did! But it was great when super fast, airborne between bumps and a bit too fast for the general public, I don't think Eric would have survived it for example, would have needed an ambulance to extract him from the crash barrier.😂

    Great video guys! That one was not a real Christmas market tho, just a touristy thing. You should go to the one in Charlottenburg, Potsdam or Spandau next time to have the authentic vibe and more stuff to try.

    the irony is the German markets outside Germany are styled to be extremely German Bavarian, but are fairly utilitarian in Germany itself
