  • This video gives a high-level overview of the basic operating principles of phased array antennas, with visual examples of how they operate illustrated with ripples in water.
This is our (Michael Sinanis, Jenna Hickle, and myself) submission for the IMS 2015 TH-cam/YouKu video competition.

Yo dude. I suggest you go into lecturing, next year I will be final year Electronic Engineering and I have come across very few people that will take this amount of effort to make a complex concept relatively basic to understand. Keep up the great work, well done and thank you for sharing.

If you end up teaching you're gonna be a great professor, especially in the field of electrical engineering where it's rare to have clear instructors (MIT doesn't count of course).

Thank you for making this video. Being a expert in a field and being able to teach it are two different abilities. You got both and I hope you consider a career teaching because none of my professors in college could explain it this well much less do so in 5 minutes.

Good intro to phased arrays. It might also be helpful to actually show multiple phase delayed sinusoidal signals can arrive and combine constructively at an array plane with is titled with respect to the source.
Also, talk a little more about sidelobe suppression using aperture shading, and how it trades off beam width due to smaller effective aperture.
