F-22 tip for this glitch: use a fleet to blockade Bosporus strait which mean reveal near Istanbul. Ottomans units always freeze when too many small units walk stop walk stop near Bosporus.
My crowning achievement may have been the game as Maratha where I took revenge on the British invasion by conquering the 13 colonies, giving them to the Iroquois and Cherokees, and after allying with both, just continually shooting up the attempted rebellions. The United States never formed because of some dudes in sweet hats riding elephants.
Bostancıbası was title or rank of that dude. Bostancı were guardsmen of palace. Baş means head so that guy was Head of Bostancıs. What an alien language we have :)
Lol it's nice to see someone else liking Empire the most. Especially seeing how much people hate on it. Not undeservedly so if we're being honest, but with a few rebalancing mods it can be really good. Plus it covers one of the more interesting time periods in history, at least in my opinion.
Honestly, if the campaign AI wasn't completely fubar (looking at you, Sweden and Ottomans spamming one unit armies across straights), melee combat wasn't completely broken, forts didn't lag when a wall was breached, and the battle AI wouldn't randomly lock up Empire would be way higher on my favorite games list. I was kinda bummed they never really bothered to fix a lot of the issues, but that seems to be a recurring thing. Attila is still a great game that is terribly optimized and has weird issues like certain towns only having 3 building slots in total (when 95% of them have four) I remember when I installed darthmod and picked a start date that had the US independent. At the end of the first turn the French offered an alliance, I turned it down because I didn't want to get dragged into a war, Britain then sent me an alliance that I refused as well. At the end of turn 2, they both allied with each other and declared war on me despite the fact that they both had "very friendly" opinions of me. Then there were weird things like industrial buildings having no downsides for Constitutional Monarchies because they don't have a "lower class" listed in the public order. I love Empire but I just wish it wasn't so evidently rushed to release and was never (significantly) patched afterward. As soon as Napoleon came out empire was never patched again if I recall correctly. I imagine a polished Empire would be very fun, even if it did have weird quirks like Spain and France being one province.
I think the hate is a bit out of proportion for the quality of the game. Expectations were probably higher. It's definitely a good game overall, worth playing, even if the ai is kinda crappy overall.
Hell I wish they did the empire total war's theather option for each section of the map. You know, like stitching together the campaigns in napleon total war. Iberia, Italy, Balkans, France, Germany, East europe, Russia. So we could have more detailed maps with more cities without overloading the game engine.
@The Nova renaissance I get that but I don't care about "theather" persay, I want more cities&details on the map and the only way to achieve this is by making each region a theather like spain, france and italy into theathers of their own. There were way more cities on italy when playing tutorial of rome 2(only shows italy) and there were way more cities in gaul when playing caeser's campaign. That's what I want. Whether that requires the title to be "empire" or whether it can be applied to all total war games. I want more cities
Being pioneers of something and actually using said invention correctly are two different things. The Ottoman Empire pioneered gunpoweder weaponry but never completely modernized their armies to European standards during the 18th century.
Ottoman was still economically and militarily strong for much of the 18th century. They only truly became the "Sick Man of Europe" during the 19th century and beyond.
I never understood the problem people have with the naval combat in Empire/Napoleon. What do you think combat between sailing ships is supposed to be like?
Not boring. Naval battles in TW are boring most of the time. In real life, they are mostly a giant road blocks. Most of the only interesting things happen is when they almost reach land. Even the Pacific war, many of the US Navy goals are to destroy land bases. "After Trafalgar, England secured the waves, and Napoleon ruled the continent" -English historian.
Completely agree with you on Empire: Total War. Despite the endless frustrating bugs, and nearly endless tedious loading, there's something endlessly enjoyable about this Total War in particular that keeps me coming back to it as well... Maybe it's just because I played the demo when it came out and I could barely run it, so coming back to it now with an overpowered PC is sweet, but it's just a very enjoyable and addictive game even today (that just happens to be glitchy as hell.)
A good way to have OP Ottomans in empire is to make the two revolts needed to become a republic from the start. That way you can send your best army to India really early on and the revolts will give you some more troops to rebuild with. Also drop the Barbary Pirates at start so you don't have everybody hating you because of them, but keep the Khanate. Take Ukraine and give it to the Khanate so they'll keep Russia in check, and then put that army on a boat and send them to hit the Maratha. Empire is all about taking India since that's where the most riches are and if you don't take them out the Marathas will become monsters with those riches anyways. I like to take that settlement on the bottom right with the fort to start from and don't build any naval units until the Maratha are wiped out, then take out the Mughals. Don't push east into Persia until you take out Georgia and that other nation in the Caucasus because they will always declare on you when you push east first. Don't worry about the crappy Russia provinces above them as they aren't worth taking and Russia can't do anything since they are fighting the Khanate and Sweden. Once you've taken everything to your east you are the superpower and everybody wants to trade with you as you take out whoever you like in Europe. The only way they don't want to trade with you is if you take a bunch of land in the European theater early on and piss everybody off with the AE, or if you keep the Barbary pirates since they're at war with everybody. Going Republic is always worth it since you can have plenty of schools without worrying about public order.
