One of the best brush videos ever! You are definitely part teacher. Knowing the "why" behind a brush and then the "what " brush one should use, really helps us to be informed and better beauties! Thanks Mel....great job!
I love this format of how you show all your choices and then pick one. Giving alternatives is so helpful because I have some of these already in my collection so I don't feel like I have to run out and buy your recommendations right away.
Hi Mel - I am very excited to watch this video. You have quickly become one of my favorite TH-camrs and I really feel like I have gotten to know your style and trust your opinion. I have been a makeup lover for many years and I have bought my first bronzer. Because I glow in the dark, I have never been bold enough to buy one. I bought the Fenty Beauty (Inda Sun) one and it is beautiful. Could you guide me in what the best brush for this bronzer might be? I'd love to use the bronzer after spending my hard earned money on it but I'm not sure what brush to get. Thank you in advance for your guidance and keep up the great work!
I love the original Wayne Goss eye set with squirrel hair. So soft and better sizes for my eyes in general. I also use hakuhodo and chikuhodo eye brushes with some Kevin Aucoin thrown in. I have not found a favorite blush brush so will try your recommendations. I use the Linda Halberg brush for bronzer or and old Clinique one. I had lots of Mac brushes that I’ve slowly gotten rid of - too scratchy. I’m into Chikihodo for powder unfortunately and have collected several really expensive fude brushes - but nothing is softer and I only ever use pressed powder and want a very light application. Great vid!
Man screw the ppl that actually have the time to put a thumbs down! Shame on you guys! It takes so much work and guts to do what she does, because believe me, if I had the cajones to be a makeup youtuber or any kind of TH-cam channel I would love to, but I’m very nervous to do that because of ppl like YOU that have to give a thumbs down! Really?! For what??! She’s a great person with a great bubbly personality. Did your parents teach you if you don’t have anything nice to say, then just shush! Geez, ppl are so rude and haters. 😤🤬can’t stand mean ppl!
Hi Mel! I am so extremely happy and in shock that you picked these brushes, being part of your favs is such an honour, thank you! I cannot even explain how excited I am, I mean, I almost fainted here! the suspense was intense, but one of the reasons I felt so happy and thrilled to watch this video is because your excitement is contagious, you have so much emotion and passion when you talk about brushes and that's the best!!! Thank you again, sincerely ❤️ PS1: you crack me up every single time... "the Builder Three from Sonia G" I love it 😂😂😂 PS2 : did I say thank you???!!!!!!! Not enough times!!!!
lol, it makes me giggle every time without fail 😂😂 I’m easily amused, obviously lol. But, of course your brushes would be in here! They are amazing! As are you!!!
YESSSSSSSSS!!!! Thank you for this video! I love watching your techniques and your full face tutorials! You have amazing style when it comes to makeup! ❤️💕
Thanks so much Mel, I wanted to start getting some new brushes and with Mother's next week here in Australia, I can put my order in lol. I've only just started getting into makeup as my beautiful niece has started wearing makeup and we have a lot of fun bonding over makeup. I wondered if you are doing a tutorial for the look you are wearing today? I have dark brown eyes as well and I don't see as many looks for dark eyes and fairer skin as I do for lighter eye colours.
Happy Sunday!! Firstly, your makeup look is staggeringly beautiful. I'm a makeup novice and I do not know much about brushes but you've just helped me to comprehend what brushes should be used for each section of your face. Thank you Mel.
Great video, Mel. Happy to report I have all your winners and even your runners up. Am mortified not to see TF for eye blending. Luv your collection......
A brush I love is the Smith 205; a slant brush for powder eyeliner. It’s firm and small enough that it will get right into the lash line, plus it’s thin enough to get precision (for a powder). I use it every day. Plus, for cream and liquid foundation I love the Zoeva 210. I saw Lisa Eldridge using it on more than one occasion so I bought it. Buffs everything right in. How could you pick between Sonia G and Wayne Goss? I have those and I love them all! Haven’t tried Esum. Interesting video. Thanks. Happy Sunday! 💚
I came back to watch this video once I was ready to buy a couple of higher-end type brushes. Up until now, I have only purchased more on the affordable and generic side. I ADORE YOUR BRUSH VIDEOS! I feel that the knowledge you have of varying techniques, formula types and coupled with that of the different fibres and shapes of brushes, you have upped my makeup game by passing this knowledge on. There really isn't much out there in terms of explaining brushes, fibres, types and techniques (aside from the very basic this is the shape for blending) and I really enjoy when I come across more in-depth info. The only other resource that has improved my brush knowledge was actually Sonia G's blog post about fibre types and what they are good for. Please keep the brush tips and knowledge coming!
Hi Mel! I was wondering if you’d be able to do a “wedding guest” video now that we’re getting into wedding season (at least in the northeast!). Would love to see what kinda of base (“soft glam”) you’d recommend for photography and in general, to attend a wedding! Love your videos!
LOL totally cheated. Love the eye shadow. I saved this one, you gave so much information. I have information over load. I will be watching this one again. I would love a tutorial on glitter glues how to use them and which ones are better.
My brush wishlist is from you, and Michelle Wang. I use my Sonia Kashuk Sponges (that I got after watching you use them), beauty blender, and right now I am testing the Juno & Co microfiber sponges, I bought a set of 4 that included the solid cleanser.
Great vid. Thank you. Love your picks.. now I want that La Mer powder brush 😂 I have a Morphe powder brush I love, years old now. Sonia G fan pro is my go to highlighter brush as of late, otherwise it’s the WG 2 from his newer face set. I use a WG 16 for my transition e’ry day. Sonia G builder 3 and builder pro have my heart now. I’m still playing w Sonia G face pro set.. Again, great vid!
So here for this video, and perfect timing too! Just order the spectral palette got the free eye crayon then added the 310 and sponge to my cart to bring me to free shipping. Can’t wait to try them all out!!
Awesome video subject from someone who really knows her brushes and what they're used for! I loved it. I have an under-utilized Esum W21, and that baby is coming out to be placed front and center!
I love it, too! Her eye look is BOMB!! Extra excited to return to the land where I can again wear creative makeup styles outside of conservative military/USG expectations/requirements! Heck Yes for Neon Orange and Sparkly Glitters, Mel! Thanks for the ABH Glitter Adhesive tip: I'd rather invest in the best one than get a bunch of duds. You're the best, woman!
Thank you so much for this. I mostly have Chanel and MAC with Smashbox and a few others thrown in. My favorite for least inexpensive is the ELF large powder brush. I want to try some Sonia G in the near future. :)
Thanks so much for your updates on favourite brushes, really enjoyed that. I have a few of the ones you mentioned but would now like to get some more!!
Mel thank you for the thorough review of the sponge and brush options. I've not tried Sonia G and I've been looking for a blush brush. Obviously the eye brushes are your specialty and no wonder it was hard to narrow your choice to one and it's ....Wayne Goss. Have a wonderful week. Hugs.... Sherry
Love love love. I need some really good brushes. I have the infamous hooded (I say sagging for me cuz I’m older ) and small eye both. I am thinking of Wayne since he has hooded. But I do love Sona ! I own no luxury. So time to make a decision. Help !! Love you and your makeup is killer.
My faves are my new Bdellium golden triangle 785 and 776,and a Vasanti contour eyeshadow brush(it was in ipsy) Love your brush collection. I liked your little smiles before “the winner is...” Also, beautiful eye look. Would you consider a video on how to pair eyeshadows with lipstick or lipstick and blush combos. Would love to learn a bit more on that. 🤗
I just did face and eye brush videos on my channel and I'm so so glad I put them up before this because I'm starting to feel like my audience thinks I'm copying you LOL I LOVE brushes. Naturally, I loved this video! I feel like I guessed a fair amount right too ;) xoxo
If I could only pick 1 brush in each category, honestly it would be my Scott Barnes brushes. Great video Mel. I have the La Mer brush and I can’t wait to try it out. A video suggestion, if you have the Soleil Tan De Chanel can you do a tutorial? Jaclyn Hill recommended using the Morphie 439 to apply this bronzer. Thanks so much. Xoxo. Love your videos
This is a great video on brushes and so appreciated. I've been having a difficult time trying to figure out what would be best purchase of one really good eyeshadow palette for spring and summer looks and if one even exists. I've been saving so I can buy just one highend eyeshadow palette to get me through spring and summer but can't make up my mind considering I am only trying to buy one and I really don't own any palettes with what would be considered spring and summer colors since all of mine are basically neutrals. I am starting to feel more comfortable wearing more color on my eyes and this is also going to be my early birthday present to myself since my birthday isn't until the end of July. I t becomes difficult because I am trying to limit myself to just one .

Oh I’m so grateful for this wonderful much needed video! I’ve ordered quite a few lately but I get confused when I get on the websites. Thanks to the one that recommended this topic. Thanks Mel! Have a beautiful Sunday 💕
Yes you need the cheek pro brush!! I was never into smaller blush brushes but that brush has been my favorite of all her face brushes. I literally use it for blush, bronzer (😱) and contouring. Very multifunctional brush
Omggg when you looked down, I almost had a heart attack! Omgomgomg long time no see how could you become so beautiful!!! Btw this shirt looks soo cute on you! ♥️
Do you have a video on buffing? What it is and why? I feel like no one really talks about that and I'm not 100% sure I know. I feel like it would be something I like though!
what would be a brand to invest in for an overall kit? i don't really use big and fluffy brushes. i want to replace my morphe brushes with a bit more high end and quality. i normally focus more on eye brushes. it looks like you love all the Sonia G brushes;)
It is nice to see someone get emotional over their brushes and share with us. Only a true makeup beauty GURU with exceptional knowledge and passion for the art would I entrust with brush selection; and you can even make me laugh !! which is a bonus You have come so far from your girls putting your makeup on for you years ago. Onward and upward for you !!
Thank you so much for doing this video. I have been waiting so long to hear what your favorites are. It’s nice that you gave other options as well. Great video!
Omg, thank you Mel! Great video idea from your subscriber! When it comes to brushes you're my trusty, trusty person! I mean, l have a "Mel's brushes" video list! You know?!!! Lol! Love from Italy 💕🙋🏻♀️🖌
Omg Mel , love love love the eye look you chose for this video.. absolutely STUNNING!!!!!! But than again you ALWAYS are perfection 🥰💯💯💯.. question : the marble looking colours in the huda nude palette.. Which brush do you recommend just for those colors?? I hate using my finger because my nails are so long ... please let me know your recommendation... thank you love ❤️
I love this video Mel! 💖You, Alicia and Michele are my go to TH-camrs for makeup tools recommendations. Orange looks great on you beauty! Have a lovely Sunday 😘💕
You did a great job Mel! I ❤️ my Sonia G and Wayne Goss brushes. Thank goodness I don't have to choose only 1 because I just can't haha. You look stunning 😍
I was just thinking in one of your recent videos, which brush is your favourite, because you’ve been using so many new brushes lately. Loved the way you did it. So helpful! 💗 My next big purchase on Beautylish will be the Sonia G pro face and a couple of pro eye brushes. 🤗
Loved this review and I was so thrilled to see I have a few of the brushes you use. I was also thrilled to see you have a lot of brushes as I seem to be owning a lot now I don’t feel guilty. Thanks 😍
Would love to know how you have your brushes organized. Are they in different containers for each category? Also, another video I would like to see is what's in your travel makeup bag. I just found you and videos and I am loving you , your videos and have found your honesty refreshing. I am happy to see different brush options mentioned, like today , ones I have not heard of (tired of Morphe, Scott Barnes, etc....) always being listed/referred to. Thanks again for all you do. Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Hey Mel. I know you use brushes from the R&L Omnia Gold line, but do you also have brushes from the RoseGold line? Just wondering what the difference is between the Omnia Pro and the Omnia RoseGold besides the color (ferrule and handle) and the fact that the Pro line is more extensive.
I’ve tried so many sponges and never tried the LH black sponge I do want to splurge at some point and get one and try it because I definitely believe everything you ever say and if you say it’s good I bet it is 💕❤️❤️
I’ve given up on sponges; being 44 now, I just don’t have time haha. My favorite foundation brushes BY far; Cover FX Custom Blending Brush, and IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe double ended Foundation and Concealer Brush. You can blend any consistency foundation in less than half the time. My teenage daughter is still a sponge girl, but brushes for me just do the job so much quicker. The makeup brush attachment on my Clarisonic does it even faster 😊😊😊😊 I’ve been using a MAC 159 synthetic duo fiber for blush and highlighter; and I’ve had the brush for almost ten years, holds up beautifully 🏆🏆 Would LOVE a video just talking about eye brushes. You don’t use any brushes for foundation at all? I guess not, haha.
Loved this video - as usual! Could you please do a bridal look? I'm getting married and if I could get anyone to do my makeup it would be you so a tutorial would be the next best thing!! Love you so much ❤️❤️❤️
Because you picked brushes that are so multifunctional, I would love to see you do a look using your selected favourite brushes only.
Yes!Great idea 👌❤
Agreed!
I was thinking the exact same thing!!
One of the best brush videos ever! You are definitely part teacher. Knowing the "why" behind a brush and then the "what " brush one should use, really helps us to be informed and better beauties! Thanks Mel....great job!

I LOVE that you showed the brushes you have in each category and the one that won vs just showing your favorite.

I have the Japonesque 324 and it looks a lot like the MAC 129. Its soft and picks up blush and highlight fairly well.
Lovely collection! So many are on my wish list, I love my Wayne Gosse collection
LOVE when you do brush videos!! I've bought many of my brushes thanks to your recommendations! Now I have more to add to the list. Thanks Mel!
Thank you for the fun "Brush Guide" and sponge guide too! Enjoyed very much.
I have had SG sculpt two from launch date but I have yet to try it for buffing. I truly do love your intel Mel.

Sonia G every time I have both in nearly all as I am a brush addict, Sonia is way above all! X
I will blindly buy any brush you tell me to! You’re the person who introduced me to Wayne Goss brushes and I’m still thankful for it !!
I just placed an order for the Wayne Goss # 17,18 and 19 on Beautylish I'm excited to see how well there gonna work.
Your eye makeup has me shook ❤😍

Love your brush collection. I liked your little smiles before “the winner is...”
Also,beautiful eye look.

La Mer powder brush is simply the best, my absolute favourite, I adore it and will never let go!
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
If I could only pick 1 brush in each category, honestly it would be my Scott Barnes brushes. It is a real tough pick between Kelley Quan, Wayne Goss & Scott Barnes, but the Scott Barnes brushes are the ones I reach for most.
I haven't tried Linda's or Sonia's, but heard great things. Thanks for sharing.

You did a great job Mel! I ❤️ my Sonia G and Wayne Goss brushes. Thank goodness I don't have to choose only 1 because I just can't haha. You look stunning 😍
Lol!
Thank you!!!
Mel you are so cute! The struggle is real!
I was just thinking in one of your recent videos, which brush is your favourite, because you’ve been using so many new brushes lately. Loved the way you did it. So helpful! 💗 My next big purchase on Beautylish will be the Sonia G pro face and a couple of pro eye brushes. 🤗
You’ll love them!
What a wonderful helpful video !!!!!!!! Thank youuuuuuu I am taking notes ouhhhh I am tempted to buy the la mer brush
You won’t regret it if you get it... plus it’s on Sephora so... discount 🙌🏻
Hi Mel,, What a great video, as usual. I was wondering if you could tell us how you clean your brushes. Thanks!
Brandee Jones thank you!!
I actually just did a “beauty room tour” and I show how I store them in that video 🥰
I will look for that one on your channel. Thanks for letting me know.
Amazing video Mel....absolutely loved it...
Oh this is a very cool video idea! ❤️🤗. I like hearing why you would pick a certain one
You’re just stunning!! Luv luv ur videos!!! Ty for sharing 😊🙏🏽
The video we all needed! Mel always comes through
I guessed them all correctly!!! A perfect score in this game😀. I love Rae Morris brushes the most. 💕Deb
Those are on my list to try! 😍
Brushes heaven👍❤ Thank you for massive work of reviewing everything and linking down👍
Hey Mel. I know you use brushes from the R&L Omnia Gold line, but do you also have brushes from the RoseGold line? Just wondering what the difference is between the Omnia Pro and the Omnia RoseGold besides the color (ferrule and handle) and the fact that the Pro line is more extensive.
Love your videos I love your phone case even more I want it now❤️
Love it Mel git the bom and the rephr 4
I had to force myself to pay attention to what you were saying because that eye look!!!! I think the world stopped turning for a moment. 😍😍😍p
I’ve tried so many sponges and never tried the LH black sponge I do want to splurge at some point and get one and try it because I definitely believe everything you ever say and if you say it’s good I bet it is 💕❤️❤️
You will love it!
The makeup brush attachment on my Clarisonic does it even faster 😊😊😊😊
I’ve been using a MAC 159 synthetic duo fiber for blush and highlighter; and I’ve had the brush for almost ten years, holds up beautifully 🏆🏆
Would LOVE a video just talking about eye brushes. You don’t use any brushes for foundation at all? I guess not, haha.
Oh... THOSE EYES!🤩
And great video -- I wanted to see this, big time. Thank you!
Loved this video - as usual! Could you please do a bridal look? I'm getting married and if I could get anyone to do my makeup it would be you so a tutorial would be the next best thing!! Love you so much ❤️❤️❤️
Congrats!!!
Cannot live without my Wayne Goss blending brushes ! Sooo good, love the size options
