thank you for this wonderful video, the way you presented the brushes with the model number written on the side of it makes it easy to follow; would you have any update video about brushes for 2020?
I just want to say Karima in my opinion you have got to be one of the most intelligent beauty TH-camrs there is! Your vocabulary is GOALS and your ability to give such details descriptions of different products with such sense and specificity is amazing! Highly underrated if you ask me 💘💘💘
I have been waiting for a video like this from you forever!!!!!! I bought the Hakuhodo eye brushes after watches your videos religiously, and I use them every single day.
Thank you for this Karima! I think the next step for upping my makeup game is investing in some good brushes, but I had no idea where to start. This has helped so much!
This may be a silly question but could you also show how you wash and dry your makeup brushes? I always feel like I'm using the wrong cleanser or not letting them dry correctly. It's gotten to the point that I avoid brushes! Help Karima! You really do give the best advice and it's really appreciated.
The Chikuhodo brush is almost half of my monthly wage... Lol I think I'm going to get brush from Wayne Goss line instead. I trust your recommendation because you have high standard for things but you're not obnoxious about it. Thanks for the video! Xx
I loved this video. I need to update some brushes in my freelance kit and didn't know where to start. I think i will look at wayne goss or rae morris now.
Wow. I’ve never heard of your channel before and I was looking up brushes so this came up in my recommended. I don’t know what made me click, as I usually try and avoid “beauty gurus” because I’m sick of the “use my morphe code for 10% off!” scheme. Tbh I wasn’t expecting much and by 3 minutes into the video u slapped me across the face with ur expertise. You aren’t a beauty guru, I can tell you are a true makeup ARTIST. My initial impression was so wrong and I can see ur passion for ur art within the first few minutes of this video. Thankyou for this, I needed these recommendations, explanations, in depth discussions about the difference/purpose/ability of all ur brushes...the list goes on! An amazing video and a fellow Aussie, my bloody dream come true! Xx
Love your choices! For contour, may I also suggest the small angled Hakuhodo G511? A nice alternative, particularly for travel. And I agree, Smith has the best tiny detail brushes. Love their pointed liner brush. Laura Mercier also do a great one. And, if you like dusting a finishing powder all over (like Guerlain Metéorites), the Chikuhodo largest Z brush (pricey but soooo worth it, especially the delicious enameled versions) is such a treat. I look forward to using it daily. It's also fab if you like a larger bronzer brush...grey squirrel so hard to overdo the color. Thanks again for a thorough and well researched review!
This video was well worth the watch. I feel like small flat top liner brushes are a bit underrated. I think every makeup loving person should have one. Once upon a time I had an eco tools flat top liner brush that I used every single time until it met it's demise (I over-"conditioned" it with olive oil, which I had heard was the thing to do (I was younger and didn't know better)... and it got up the ferrule and the glue holding the bristles unglued... it was tragic). It had a very slight concave curve which is what I'm convinced is what made it so easy to use. It was the best and fastest way to apply eyeliner around the lashes in an array ways. It's still hands down the best "drugstore" flat top liner brush I've ever met. R.I.P.
OK, now I need to go out and buy a bunch of Japanese brushes. You are so right about the MAC 217, it's scratchy but the size was always so right so it was always my go to! NOW, Imma get me something else!!! Love your vids so much.
Just came upon this video and I am so, so appreciative of the information given, Karima. I completely trust your expert advice and experience. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
That was very helpful. Sometimes I don't utilize the shape of the brush to its fullest capacity or I get in a rut & just use the same brush for everything even though I have other sizes & shapes. This was a good refresher on brush basics.
I'm particular with my brushes too. So glad to hear you're not a huge fan of the MAC 217. I find it scratchy too! I thought I was going crazy thinking I was the only one!
I just discovered you today and subbed immediately because we have the SAME taste in makeup and brushes. Coincidentally, I'm just beginning to build my investment/high-end brush set and replacing all my drugstore RT (served me well for 7 years) for higher quality brushes. However while I was researching I had a really bad time because I noticed that most MUAs or gurus ALWAYS suggest a bunch of drugstore brushes as holy grails and what not and I just feel that they do it because they want to be relatable and not dissed for "only suggesting high-end and being inconsiderate". So I just wanted to say THANK YOU for being unapologetically you and just suggest what you really really love (which just happens to be mostly high-end), without regard to whether they are high-end or not or if you are going to be hated on or criticised. With this video I just completed my list of brushes. Thank you
Your taste in brushes is quite unique here on YT, and I'm so in love. Makeup brushes really are an art. ❤️ love this video. And can't wait to see a tutorial on this look 😉😉😉
You convinced me to try hakuhodo brushes years ago and they're still my favorites! One I would recommend if you haven't tried it is the J220G eyeshadow brush. It's a flat, dense eyeshadow brush like the MAC 239 but much larger and less stiff. This is the only brush I like using with my Burberry eye shadows and does a really good job with any large wash of color over the eye vs the very precise MAC 239.
Thank you for this video! I love brushes! I up-graded to Wayne Goss brushes last Christmas and love them! For liquid and cream products I still use my old Real Techniques brushes though.
Thank you so much for doing the hard work of putting together this video! I’m so happy to have a good list to work with to fill in the gaps of my current collection.
Hi Karima, love your work. Just so you know, Selfridges are always out of stock of Suqqu brushes, but Fenwick on New Bond St in London have them. At the moment they even have the Suqqu eyeshadow S brush (£45), but it’s a limited edition as far as I know. X
Heyy, I knew the answers to most of these ahaha. Actually, fun fact - I read your brush post on eyeshadow brushes and collated a list of eyeshadow brushes to buy when I went to Japan in December last year. I spent a bomb in the flagship Hakuhodo store there but the brushes were brilliant. I absolutely love them. I, like you, have extremely sensitive eyes and I loathe my mac 217. So thank you for the collated brush blog post!! It was really really helpful and I love all my Hakuhodo brushes :) I found that my protruding eye favoured different brushes from the line. Because my eye "pops out" so to speak, the pencil brush is great for carving out a "wedge" at the outer corner of the eye which then I can blend the shadow upwards and inwards to create depth on the eye. The J146 is another essential brush for protruding eyes that are round as it fits quite nicely in the corner. I found that I preferred the J5523 over the B142 for blending. The B142 works better on eyes that are deeper set, even if they are hooded. On me, the brush just doesn't sit naturally on any part of the eye, though it is still functional for blending. The J5523 though, has a flatter and a dome shape edge that is conducive to deepening the outer corners and creating an "outer-V" shape that flatters protruding eyes. Yeah... just let me geek out over makeup here for a bit.
dear karima thank you for this video i think ive watched it like 3 times since it was uploaded it has become my guide when im wanting to expand my brush collection
Great idea about using the Suqqu L brush as a contour. I have never thought of that. I use mine just for setting. Going to give that a go as a contour now. Its worth mentioning in November Selfridges do a 10% off week. Which includes Suqqu brushes. So if anyone wants any of the Suqqu Brushes maybe wait a few more weeks to get some extra pounds off.
Ha I'll let you into a secret. If you ring/email the actual suqqu counter direct, in the selfridge store in London. You can get most things (Tel: +44 (0) 207 318 3956 / E-mail: suqquuk@eqpuk.com). The stock they show online, is different to what they actually have inside store. I did this last year with the eye brush christmas set. The girl was really helpful and sent it in the post. I do live in England. But they will ship abroad. Should also say Harrods have a reward card (free) and some days they have 10% days off for card holders. So worth getting a card with them selling Suqqu x
I looooved this video!! My bf laughed everytime you said Chikuhodo. Heather Moorehouse got me into the Smith brushes. I looove them. I'm so glad you made this video for me! Lol
I saw you featuring Wayne Gosse's air brush in so many of your tutorials that I have one coming my way as we speak. From his line I also LOVE the foundation brush that I use to apply any cream face products and it's been game changing for me. Cream blush always used to lift and become patchy whatever tool I used (even my fingers) but now I can really appreciate a good cream product. Also, thank you for your recommendations on 217 type brushes. They've always scratched my eyes and I never understood why people loved them so much. As I keep my eyeshadow pretty simple it's the perfect shape of brush for me but I always dreaded that step because of how uncomfortable my 217 are to use for me.
I love this video!! I just found your channel from looking at Wayne Goss reviews and I love how you are very educative and thorough without droning on and on pls make more videos like this! 😊
Loved it. I was in "need" of some recommendations for certain brush types that I'm missing in my collection. You just added a lot to my list. Super helpful
Oh Karima, I love brushes too and this is making me itch to buy even more! I got the suqqu Christmas brush set last year and I haven’t even touched it yet (as well as Chanel, bobbi brown, urban decay, Charlotte tilbury brush sets). Love a good brush set, can u tell I’m obsessed! Ps I NEED a tutorial on ur makeup look 😍
Thank you so much!!!! been waiting for so long. Have quite a few of them already cuz i read your old blog post about them. Saving to get some mooore 😻 😻 😻
Girrrrrrrl I have the chikuhodo passion series highlighting brush and it’s so amazing. I had a morphe one before and it was so disappointing so I went for the chikuhodo one and I’m never using another one ever again
I bought some Mac brushes years ago, and the only crease brush I had for a long time was the 217, I also have the 239. I don't think I knew how to use the 217 that well either and I always thought it was just so scratchy, I have a mac angled cheek too and I thought all natural hair brushes were just that scratchy so I never bothered to think I should try them again. I have some Hakuhodo, Sonia G, The Wayne Goss Air Brush, some Rephr brushes and even a few It Cosmetics powder brushes on order now that I know it's not just cheap synthetic brushes or Mac. I've been using a Sephora brush kit and random brushes from beauty subscription boxes for the most part until I realized why some brushes cost so much.
Have you tried Cozzette brushes? They were created by a makeup artist and a lot of makeup artists love them. From the reviews I've seen, people say they are great quality.
Thank you so much! I will definitely be watching this video again when I have a pen and my notebook handy so I can take notes on the brushes that caught my eye. I must say Wayne Goss came up quite a bit. I own the white bristled airbrush and #17 eye brush from him. ❤️!!!! What do you think of Sonia G.’s brushes? I am considering purchasing her worker 2 brush or another one of her brushes but they are extremely expensive even more than Goss’s!😳
Hi Karima, I’ve purchased many of the brushes you own and use and I love them. There is a difference in quality brushes. My current issue is how do you clean them? Could you please do a video of brush care?
oh my God girl, you are so right about the mac 217 😗😗😗. thanks a bunch i have other options from you. the suqqu brush for blusher is one of my fave too, always love the quality of your videos girl, keep it up 🤗
I love love makeup brushes!! I have two really fantastic ones. Now I just need to save all my dollars for a brush overhaul... maybe the Suqqu cheek one day.
I have purchased several Rae Morris brushes on your recommendations in the past and was not disappointed. Her latest line is a bit more expensive but are handmade Japanese brushes. Have you tried the Esum brushes? I recently tried them recently and they are high quality pro brushes. I would love to hear your thoughts on both their face and eye brushes. BTW I would definitely love to see a tutorial on this look. You look gorgeous as always and glamorous.
Thank you for this video! You do you, you like brushes and I was so happy when I saw this video. Can you review/ try the Esum makeup brushes? I'd really enjoy seeing or reading ( the blog) what you think about them. Have you already tried them? They are suppose to be really soft ( like natural hair soft) synthetic brushes. Thank you for the video, sincerely.
I love that you nerd out on brushes. I adore some of the same ones as you.I'm so bummed though because I've heard several people say the Rae Morris brushes are fantastic but I got the very 1st run of them when she first came out with them. I think I had pre-ordered, they came with a signed copy of one of her little books. They were light handles and only some of them had magnets not on the ends but inside near the ferrule. It's so annoying because those that have the magnets wad together in my brush cup, and also the fibers have held up so poorly despite me babying them. They are so scratchy compared to my Wayne Goss brushes. I wish I had waited a year or 2 and got the revamped set, they sound much better. Anyone have a similar experience?Anyway, I always enjoy your videos and hearing about your favorites!
Amazing video. You could never bore me🤣. I've seen you clean your brushes on snap chat (with your mum😊), but would appreciate a full tutorial on how you clean them😀 Thank you!
Thank you, I'll definitely try some Smith Cosmetics brushes, it's Karima approved! BTW if you ever try any Esum brushes, please let us know if their quality is comparable to any other brands you own. Thank you very much for this video, it's my favorite makeup category, EVER.
Karima I had to watch this video a second time to actually pay attention to what you were saying. I was so distracted by those eyebrows...my heart was aflutter😍
Loved this video and I'm sitting here confused at the end because I thought you did a brush video last year, checked and oh damn, 3 years ago!? SHOOKETH
Opened a tab on my iPhone notes as soon as I saw you uploading this to write down your recommendations! Then I realized I owned 80 percent of what you're recommending haha (because I bought them from your old favorite brushes video) So happy to see that you're still loving everything! Have I missed it or did you not mention your favorite lip brush? Im still struggling finding one! I know you love lip liners, so Im wondering if you still use them? Sara, A Brushes addict.
Same here on Karima's brush recommendations. It is always good to know she is consistent and honest. I know you were asking Karima but I had to also recommend the Rae Morris lip brush and the #07 Wayne Goss Lip Brush. The WG brush also doubles as an eye brush. It changed my whole lip game especially with the new liquid lipsticks.
Great brushes. I bought the entire rae morris brushe set based on your recommendation😥 love them. How do you spot clean your brushes? Or do you only use then once and just deep clean them?
Your taste in brushes is quite unique here on YT, and I'm so in love. Makeup brushes really are an art. ❤️ love this video. And can't wait to see a tutorial on this look 😉😉😉
You have gorgeous taste in brushes! Have you heard about the new Real Techniques (faux) 'Blue Squirrel' brushes? I think they're online only right now, but my goodness they look intriguing... I have a solid number of Wayne Goss brushes for face and eye, and I have mixed feelings! I LOVE his eye brushes, but I'm rather lukewarm on the face (13, 11, 02 and Holiday 00). They're not as soft as I expected :/ Maybe it's time to try squirrel instead of goat? Or try taklon again. If I visit LA, I'll surely find myself in the Hakuhodo boutique 😍
Brushes video without morphe brushes. Yayy
I feel that.
thank you for this wonderful video, the way you presented the brushes with the model number written on the side of it makes it easy to follow; would you have any update video about brushes for 2020?
Hi, Karima! Can you share your routine on washing brushes? The synthetics are fine, but I always freak out when I have to wash a natural brush.

Wow Karima! Absolutely loved this video and I really appreciate the effort you have put in compiling all the information in the description bar!
You'd fail to bore me to tears, Karima 💕
I just want to say Karima in my opinion you have got to be one of the most intelligent beauty TH-camrs there is! Your vocabulary is GOALS and your ability to give such details descriptions of different products with such sense and specificity is amazing! Highly underrated if you ask me 💘💘💘
** Not underrated but a beauty guru dark horse
Karima, We need more of your videos 😍! I've been waiting for this kind of explanation of brushes and learned a lot! Thank you, you wonderful beauty!
Pleased you found it helpful! x

I just can't take my eyes off your eye makeup. 😍 It is SO pretty just like you. ❤ Keep going girl I love watching your videos 🖒
The Chikuhodo brush is almost half of my monthly wage... Lol I think I'm going to get brush from Wayne Goss line instead. I trust your recommendation because you have high standard for things but you're not obnoxious about it. Thanks for the video! Xx

Karima McKimmie ahhh thankyou gorgeous I definitely did! Definitely subscribed straight away, amazing content too xx 😘

I haven't worn any kind of Eyeshadow Look in absolutely years but you look soooo beautiful in this look that I suddenly missed doing it!

Makeup brush addicts unite!!
You're the only person on TH-cam if not the internet, whose recommendation I trust for makeup brushes.
Nice choices I really like some of the Make Up For Ever Professional brushes my favorite one is the 242 I cannot do an eye look without it.
I love love love your personality . So adorable ! Also it’s so lovely to see you passionate ! Very professional yet funny ! 💜
That was very helpful. Sometimes I don't utilize the shape of the brush to its fullest capacity or I get in a rut & just use the same brush for everything even though I have other sizes & shapes. This was a good refresher on brush basics.

me too girl! I am obsessed with brushes....
I'm particular with my brushes too. So glad to hear you're not a huge fan of the MAC 217. I find it scratchy too! I thought I was going crazy thinking I was the only one!
Love your eye makeup in this video! Please do a tutorial ❤ much love from NS Canada

YES to ALL THE MAKEUP BRUSHES in this vid!
Karima! Thanks for the great brush Christmas list video! I love it, and my hubby will love not having to shop!
Great info thanks! I have a lot of those, but saw a few I will wanna check out!
Oh Karima, I love brushes too and this is making me itch to buy even more! Thanks Karima 💋❤️! Love your brush videos! I built my brush collection watching your previous brush video. Really enjoyed the updated one 😍
Thank you so much!!!! been waiting for so long. Have quite a few of them already cuz i read your old blog post about them. Saving to get some mooore 😻 😻 😻

It's amazing, right?! 🙌🏻
Have you tried Cozzette brushes? They were created by a makeup artist and a lot of makeup artists love them. From the reviews I've seen, people say they are great quality.
Yes karima this video lived up to my expectations haha!! Also I hope you get to film this eye looks :)
Ahhh.. never fails! Very informative.. again.. and again.. and again 🙌🏼
Could you pleaseee tell us what’s on your lips? in love!
Thank you for doing this video. I discovered Rae Morris brushes thanks to you! Xx
Hi Karima, I’ve purchased many of the brushes you own and use and I love them. There is a difference in quality brushes. My current issue is how do you clean them? Could you please do a video of brush care?
would love to see a review of the sonia g brushes!
oh my God girl, you are so right about the mac 217 😗😗😗. thanks a bunch i have other options from you. the suqqu brush for blusher is one of my fave too, always love the quality of your videos girl, keep it up 🤗
I love love makeup brushes!! I have two really fantastic ones. Now I just need to save all my dollars for a brush overhaul... maybe the Suqqu cheek one day.
MAKEUP TUTORIAL ON THIS LOOK PLEASE!!!
See that's why I like you so much!! Aside from the fact that you're an amazing mua, you're also so knowledgeable !!!!! Love you 😘
I have purchased several Rae Morris brushes on your recommendations in the past and was not disappointed.
Your Makeup is stunning!!
I love makeup brush and I love this video. How do you store your makeup brushes?
I've seen you clean your brushes on snap chat (with your mum😊), but would appreciate a full tutorial on how you clean them😀
Thank you!
Thank you, I'll definitely try some Smith Cosmetics brushes, it's Karima approved! BTW if you ever try any Esum brushes, please let us know if their quality is comparable to any other brands you own. Thank you very much for this video, it's my favorite makeup category, EVER.
I reached the end! Found it very interesting! Thanks a lost!
Karima I had to watch this video a second time to actually pay attention to what you were saying. I was so distracted by those eyebrows...my heart was aflutter😍
Yaaaaaaaas i am also a brush addict n this is feeding me in all the right ways
🙌🏻
Excellent brush video!! Thank you :)
Love your makeup in this video! 💘
A tutorial on this look, please!!!!
Loved this video and I'm sitting here confused at the end because I thought you did a brush video last year, checked and oh damn, 3 years ago!? SHOOKETH
Hello, awsome blending! What is on your lips?
Hi Karima, could you please do a tutorial for a bridesmaid? Shelley x
Sara,
A Brushes addict.
I like square lip brushes, for the most part. Rae Morris and Chikuhodo both make amazing square lip brushes 😊 x
Your video was so interesting. Nice to have something new and informative in the TH-cam beauty topic community 💕
PLEASE DO US A TUTORIAL DEAR KARIMA ON THIS MAKEUP LOOK. IT IS ABSOLUTLY AMAZING
I much prefer the Wayne Goss eye brushes, also (as you can probably tell by the video!). x
