Children & Animal Companions: Care, love, and grief in multispecies families

How do children and “pets” live together? Do they challenge or reinforce human-animal boundaries? And what role do emotions play?
In this video we explore the complex relationships existing between children and their “pets” by following the questions and findings of the CLAN research project, which stands for Children-Animals Friendships: challenging boundaries between humans and non-humans in contemporary societies.
The research looks at the affective practices existing between children and animal companions, how empathy and relationships develop, how they are defined, how families and households change, and how care plays a vital role.

I really liked this video and the possibility of reclaiming and redefining family, valuing care and organizing around it. Looking at gender imbalance and restructuring the way we do life, thinking of a different way of being and living gives me hope for a better future. It’s exciting to even think about it, to reimagine what life could be like
