WELP ..... This Italian Pizza felt the Biggest Horror on the Sea together with Warapite. I think seeing a RC Bomb or 300 Planes coming Towards u is just pure Horror.

Warspite took 2 Fritz X hits (one direct, one near miss that caused flooding). The Grand Old Lady was very lucky. Even though the direct hit bomb detonated low down in the ship, and blew out her double bottom in the area, she managed to limp to port (after they got the power working again!). There's a great account from the bridge at the time from one of the juniuor officers, about how calm everyone was, even as they wondered if her keel had been broken. Roma was very unfortunate, in that she took 2 direct hits, and one of them detonated near to, and set off, one of the forward 15in gun magizines.
Did this actually happen? Why would the Germans bomb an Italian warship? I know they used the Fritz X on the HMS Warspite and a few other British capital ships, but I don’t remember hearing about them attacking an Italian (allied), one.

After the armistice went into effect, the Germans realised what was going on and intiated a pre-prepared operation (Operation Achse), with the aim of forcing the Italian military to continue to fight at gunpoint. Apart from very few, the Italian military had no idea the armistice was planned, and had no orders to resist/fight their previous allies (the Germans). Tens of thousands would be killed or executed for resisting, and over a million more would be disarmed, imprisoned, or forced to fight on (although some of those would volunteer to join the Germans). The Germans were particulary concerned about the Italian navy (the Regina Marina) potentially joining the allies. The sinking of the Roma was one of many such attacks on Italian forces after the armistice. TLDR: The Italians tried to leave the war. The Germans didn't want them to.
