The final boss theme of Earthbound in 8-bit. For the first time on this channel, I've used a famicom expansion chip: the vrc7. The chip was only used for one game, Langrage Point (Japan Only), and provides a massive boost to the NES' sound capability with 6 FM synthesis channels. This typically creates a sound more akin to the genesis than to any 8-bit systems, but it is still technically 8-bit.
8bitDanooct1 actually posted a vrc6 version of this song a couple months back, you can check it out at • Famitracker Means Busi... .
Huge thanks to KuroBit ( / kurofox4444); I had no idea how to make a good vrc7 instrument, so I used his grungy guitar as a base for the louder, more distorted guitar used in this song.
*The NES has reached maximum overdrive on the 8bit extension*
First part: Pokey means business!
Second part: Pokey is on crack and brandishing a gun!
Correct
This made smile
HAHAHAHAHAHUHUHUHUHHOHOHOHOHOHOHOGGGGGEHEHEHEHEHEEHEHH
KHEH
For Pokey's neutral special, H E W I E L D S A G U N
Pokey (Hard Mode)
Pokey has a gun, he will shoot the team for 250-500 damage, and the attack will have a 60% chance to cause bleeding.
i couldn't distinguish the first 8 bit part from the original
extremely great work
The original start of the SNES track used the same processor for the 8 bit part
The SNES version is slightly muffled because they don't use actual square waves
*When I opened the video*
>:( Wait a minute this sounds exactly like the orig-- Oh yeah.
GeneralCane your profile picture matches perfectly
Yes, perfect
Yep there the same...😐why

Beginning: Pokey means business.
Climax: Pokey means a little bit more business
Pokey means BusiNESS.
Boo
***** I... I did not think about that until now...
+Chris Hart Hey.. are you trying to spook him by saying "Boo"? Wow.
pokey means busi-play thin on your NES.
Pk Fire
The "Metal" bit sounds more like a GENESIS soundtrack than an NES soundtrack. Doesn't make it any less good, of course.
Description
Sega Master System YM2413
@@smf2007 actually the VC7 which, actually, it's pretty close to the YM2413
The cover uses the VRC7 sound chip from the NES game Lagrange Point. The soundtrack there is awesome, when I first listened to it, I couldn't believe it was the soundtrack of the NES game.
i honestly wouldnt have been able to tell the beginning apart from the original if you didnt tell me
Yep.
That would mean that the original song was made using the same or similar software as this one if they're almost identical. Would make sense though.
I wonder if the original is a MIDI like the other tracks from EB or if it's made using an internal synthesizer like on the NES
Which means Megaman didn't need to switch to 16-bit if it was possible to use 8-bit style graphics and music on the Super Nintendo
That's because it is literally 8-bit
Haha, I was just kind of casually listening, thinking "hey this is pretty neat," and then 0:54 came along. Very nice work.

I've never been a fan of using the VRC7 expansion chip on Famitracker, but you really did a great job with it! :) I love this arrangement!
That enhancement chip means business
IS THAT DYNAMITE HEADDY?!?!
-Vinesauce Joel, 201X
When did he even say that?
in the time you dont know.
that means future.
Saw an expansion chip coming, but I did NOT see VRC7 coming. Awesome work bro.
finally, this song with everything 8-bit! not just the beginning!
Good job! The first part is perfectly identical, and the second part is amazing! This is the best remix of this song I have heard.
So this is how the song would sound like if Earthbound was made into the SEGA Genesis. (Which I'm glad they didn't). Nicely done.
I wanted to search for the song to download it and I finally did
Do you want the non 8-bit song as well?
th-cam.com/video/qRkIXgmKe_c/w-d-xo.html if you dont have it already.
This theme fits very well on MOTHER for the Famicom during Giegue fight.
holy shit that is pushing famitracker to its goddamn limit what
The fact that the intro sounds almost identical to the SNES version really shows how well the original composers nailed the NES sound on SNES. It must've been pretty hard to do, with the SNES using exclusively samples.
mmm, that's some delicious VRC7 right there.
That beginning is just so damn perfect.
this is really well made and very accurate! well done.
it would be cool if you put in those other ambient effects and not just the guitar, bass, amazing drum and stuff.
but other than that, This is the best 8 bit version I've heard. ESPECIALLY at 1:32 with that crazy drum kit.
Imagine if they made the metal part sound more realistic. THAT. WOULD. BE. AWESOME.
you meant this video or in the game? cuz you know, they made that.
im not that sure. 1.he used they 2.some people are stupid enough that sometimes wont hear the real one
but whatever, looking what he meant isnt my top priority so i dont really care that much but im a bit curious.
me neither ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The beginning / intro sounds exactly like the original version.
Intro btw of Pokey Means Business sounds the same. Not the metal riff
Its pretty interesting how the beginning part of the song is nearly identical. The original song was the only song in the game to have an 8 bit approach
Pokey means BusiNESs
The sample chip works perfectly here. Couldn't ever get that same punchy sound from the original, as if the game is literally breaking the rules of the console to work how it wants, with a simple noise channel.
Also, fun fact about the original version of the beginning chiptune part. Originally, it was made with samples. As to why this was the case, I have no idea. Would have been so much easier to just use the normal square and triangle channels.
NES took mortal damage!
this is amazingly good
The first part actually looks almost the same.
I like whatchu did wit day vrc7
The lack of the 1st 3 instruments after said 1st minute kind of depresses me. I like the first part better than the rest, surprisingly.
tahutoa he made it sound like the original in the first part
_Really?_ I hadn't noticed.
lol
I clicked Show more BEFORE the one minute mark.
vrc7 is neat af
VRC7 is more useful than people think it is. This video proves it.
Alternate timeline where itoi took Mother to Sega instead
Pokey means McRoll'd.
I thought this going to be VRC6. but no....
Incredible.
NES Death metal.
If you think this is what the Genesis sounds like, you're wrong
Mother 2 on NES
the drums sound hyper-realistic
Your next line is: Wow, the first part sounded just like the original!
Wow, the first part sounded just like the original!
*Gasp*
When I first played Earthbound I thought that the original 8bit intro to the song had to be Mother 1's Giygas theme. I was so disappointed to find that it was just a high pitched, mildly to moderately annoying noise.
Pokey means BuisNESs

dat 1st minute...
Why is the opening the only thing that sounds different?
Great! I'll use it for my NONG level.
second part sounds like a sega genisis
Sega genesis
I need that guitar soundfont
A download for all my ftms is in my channel description! Also I don't know if pasting works but when I click copy on the instrument it gives me 53 11 45 0F F2 F0 11 00
@@WyattCroucher the famipacker thing?
You probably won’t get back to me, but what is this program you’re using?
Famitracker
If Porky was the pre-final boss before Giegue.
Ness, Paula, Jeff and Poo disliked this.
along with Giygas.
+RandomManB Pokey stole Giygas' epic moment
A Nevarific Account, Imstead, Giygas gets nightmare inducing tracks.

Do you have the module still? if so, could i have a link to it? that distorted guitar is really cool!
Tbh the first half sounds 8 bit (it might be 8 bit tbh) so at first it sounds the same.
I know this comment will be annoying to see, but please, I would like to know if the song changes tempo and it's time signatures
Time signature is 4/4 the whole way through, but there are a ton of tempo changes. Starts at about 120, then goes to about 130 at 0:54, then 200 at 1:20, 190 at 1:26, 200 again at 1:44. Those are just guesses honestly, they're not exact
It sounds the Same :O
Wish this was Giegue's final battle song
+Aritso I think it would have to actually BE a final battle in order to have a final boss tune.
Darrow Nemecek-Gulack Technically it is a final battle, just like Giygas, you just don't use offensive means of battle, but you still have to defend yourself and face him.
The "Battle" against him in Earthbound (Yes, that IS him. Or her, maybe. I'm not sure if the beginnings version of Mother 1 brings the gender ambiguity up.) also uses ambiance in place of music. This music is only for the part where you ACTUALLY fight Pokey/Porky (and Giygas, kindasortanotreally).
Darrow Nemecek-Gulack I know that, I'm an idiot, I know the sotry about Earthbound/Mother 2 and all the ''casualities'' Giygas has, appart from obviously no having a body or mind.
And I know this part is the battle vs Porky and Giygas while on the devil's machine.
But still, Giygas itself has his own music, he has two battle theme's in fact, but Giegue is a little bit more different, and his theme should be a bit more than such a simple, lame ''music'', I mean come on, that theme doesn't fits him at all, it's so simple as well compared to the other badass battle themes there are in Mother 1.
+Darrow Nemecek-Gulack (Millennium Eagle) Giegue/Giygas is a male, Pokey/Porky said, "HIS own mind was destroyed, what an almighty idiot!"
Hi Wyatt :)

OMG mah nes is burning
Don't you mean you NESS?
RandomManB No...
Let's imagine what happens when nes play that song
+zbsr pyo I know, I heard 8bitDanoct1 play with a vrc6 chip
Where's poo in the status bar?
Question: What is the instrument used for the first part of Pokey Means Business?
The Dark Gamer It's a square wave (plus white noise for the percussion)
Actually, there's three square wave-sounding samples in the original SNES version, and there's no triangle. So technically the intro to "Pokey means Business" would make more sense using something like the Sega Master System's SN76489, or maybe the AY-3-8910 in that regard.
EVERYTHING IS P*OKEY*
okey
Also, can I use this music for a project? The project is called EarthBound 0-16. This project is aimed to port the SNES EarthBound with an NES-like feel to it. I will be sure to mention your name in the Credits roll.
Is there a .ftm or .0cc file for this song
There's a download for all of my ftms in my channel description, should be there
0:54its always the best?
The video is so desynced so i thought the notes were all with "G03" or so.
They kinda are! Instrument 00's volume envelope starts with three silent frames.
the intro is the same!
NOT LIKE OTHER PEOPLE DOEZ
Please tell I'm not the only one who hacked Mother 1 and replaced Giegue's Cry (Final Boss Theme) with this.
RandomMarioBros It doesn't fit.
Cute
